A sprawling epic about the canine-condition. The titular dog struggles to find physical satiation in the form of water. But what’s it really saying? His appetite is but the desire for meaning.

“Dog is thirsty” is brimming with drama; especially at the climax when a twinge of nihilism peaks in direct relation to the Dog’s perception of his own life. He literally has no name. He spends his entire day seeking water/meaning only to be swallowed by existential dread.

Then the story course corrects with the purification of soothing rain. The nasty brat human who wouldn’t share his beverage is miserably soaked in the falling vengeance while the titular dog celebrates the security of meaning and drinks deep of the deluge.

Hell of a book.

Dog has a problem; he is thirsty but can't find anything to drink. This is a companion board book to Kitamura's Cat is Sleepy. Although not as funny as that board book, toddlers will sympathize with dog's search. A simple narrative that will give little ones much to discuss.

Not as good as 'cat is sleepy' so I was a bit sad. I would have thought he'd of gone for the dirty puddle- and why didn't he jump in the pond like a normal dog? Oh well. Nice pictures. What a life.

We purchased these board books for our oldest daughter when she was born. We've read this to our girls so many times I've lost count. It has wonderfully comical illustrations and a narrative that is fun to read aloud.

This is the one Satoshi Kitamura book that I totally adore. Others are OK. But this one is awesome.
