Wicked Deception

Twenty thousand pounds. That's how much my new husband has paid for me, his well-bred broodmare.

He wants a doll; pretty and silent, and above all, obedient.
Then he introduces me to her.
I am entranced and horrified... helpless and yearning... She weaves a dark enchantment around us both, tangling me in a spell of passion and pleasure, seducing me until I submit to their depraved whims.
But I am no pet or concubine, and I'm going to prove it.

This is a erotic paranormal with a strong bdms theme and strong language. Over all this is a good read, but isn't my thing. If you enjoy three somes and the bondage and sadism parts of bdms you'll find it interesting. Theirs a good plot and I did enjoy parts of this book. When Elizabeth is sold to Lord shepton by her father she see's it as away to leave her abusive father and Lord shepton is very handsome and wealthy too. Shepton is not your typical gentlemen,he is wicked! When they leave for his estate after the wedding things start changing right away the man she's married expects total obedience with our question and if Elizabeth does not obey their will be punishment.

Book #1, Wicked Magic. Raisa Greywood's debut novel knocks it out of the park!

Elizabeth Stratton's life's a study in contrasts. At one time a member of a wealthy family, her father, once a respected member of the peerage, is now a broken drunkard. Elizabeth lives in fear and loathing, wondering each day just how much worse it can get. She's about to find out! Richard, Earl of Shepton, appears out of nowhere, buying a marriage contract from her father at such an exorbitant price that Elizabeth's shocked. What can an earl possibly want with a poor, mousy girl? And why the rush to marry? Nothing makes sense! But Elizabeth's eager to escape her father's derisive, abusive behavior. Despite her reservations, she and Richard seem to truly connect. But that rapport will soon be tested by an unforeseen force set on wreaking havoc. Richard has a mistress. Angeline's a woman of extraordinary charm and persuasiveness. As she inserts herself into Elizabeth and Richard's marriage, nothing will ever be the same. Angeline bewitches both Richard and Elizabeth, coaxing both into the most outrageous of acts. In the back of her mind, a voice tells Elizabeth she should be repulsed by Angeline's seductions. But she can't resist Angeline or the enslavement to which Angeline and Richard subject her. Then forces beyond Elizabeth's control force her to face Angeline's true nature. Angeline's powerful, seemingly all powerful. As Richard wavers back and forth between seeming indifference and intense cruelty toward Elizabeth and utter devotion to Angeline, Elizabeth has choices to make. She'll have to fight Angeline, not just for Richard, but for everyone and everything she holds dear. Does she even have that ability? Isolated and alone, Elizabeth despairs. But fate's fickle. Can there be help out there? Does anyone have the power or will to battle Angeline? Or is Angeline truly unstoppable? Is Elizabeth powerless? Nothing is certain. Everything's in doubt. Can Elizabeth trust anyone? If so, who? In the end, Elizabeth knows she has to dig deeper than ever before to find a way to protect herself, Richard, and all the others she loves!

Raisa Greywood is a new author for me. To say her first novel totally blew me away would be an massive understatement. I absolutely adored this book! I had no idea what to expect when I started it. But, for me, this was a true delight! In many ways, this is a classic good versus evil story. But the ever-changing natures of every character in the book, the alternative Regency-type world in which the story is set, the magic, both good and evil, and the total unpredictably of the story make this so much more than a simple fairytale. I was truly enchanted. Elizabeth is initially sheltered, maybe even a bit naïve. But she's also no doormat. She has a backbone. Richard seems to be the stereotypical arrogant Regency era peer of the realm...entitled, rich, and used to being obeyed in every way. Then the tables turn, and Elizabeth has to reach so far beyond what she ever thought was possible just to survive. Richard is alternately loving, cruel beyond measure, and wracked with guilt. And then there's Angeline who defies description. She's a force of nature. She's utterly charming, beguiling, cruel, and outright evil. She's the counterpoint to everything Elizabeth stands for. And Richard's the wildcard, caught in the middle between the two. This story plays out on so many levels that you can't possibly predict what's coming next. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the second I started reading. Raisa Greywood is brilliant! I'm already anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. Congratulations, Ms. Greywood! I don't think I've ever read a debut novel that's held me as enthralled and captivated as Wicked Deception. Five stars doesn't come close to what this book deserves!

One final note. Be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language, dark themes, and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to a book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

This story starts out looking like any Victorian era romance/erotica. The hero swoops in, scoops up the heroine, marries her without really knowing her, and then gets up to naughty things with her. And that does happen. But, that's not all that happens, and that's only the very tip of the iceberg. There is a sneaky, shady, evil witch; a strong, smart, stubborn heroine; and a hero who is deceived.

Elizabeth has spent her life miserable at her father's house. He seems to hate her, alternately abusing her and neglecting her. They live in genteel poverty, and Elizabeth does everything she can to keep the house running well, as well as trying to stay out of her father's way, and maintain her learning and her own interests. It isn't always easy, but she manages it.

Richard, Earl of Shepton shows up at her house one day and when her father calls her in, Elizabeth learns that he is to be her husband and will marry the next day. Elizabeth knows nothing of him except that he's an Earl. She hopes that he will be kind to her, but she's glad to be getting away from her father, anyway.

When the day comes, she gets married and then is very nervous for the rest of the day. She's not entirely sure of what is going to happen, but she likes what does happen. Things seem to be going along just fine until Angeline shows up. And all of a sudden, things change.

I really enjoyed Elizabeth. She's smart and strong. She learns to like what's going on, and when things change, she takes charge of her destiny more. She really is tough. Some people may have a hard time warming up to Elizabeth because she isn't necessarily the most tactful person. Brains and beauty are her gifts. Charm and tact, not so much. I like that about her. She's very much a WYSIWYG system.

I really can't wait for the next book in the series. It's going to be an interesting series.

Elizabeth isn't made for domestic activities. Far suited to have long discourses on the relative merits of Darwin than managing to complete a needlepoint, she's sold into marriage to a handsome earl. However, marital bliss is not in the cards for her when her husband brings home his mistress, Angeline. What ensues are scenes of debauchery and erotic horror that will either have you setting your Kindle aside or rapidly tapping those pages. I (coughs) fall into the latter category and yea, this was an engaging story. Bound to their will, Elizabeth lives to please both Richard and Angeline and her willingness to subject herself to their whims makes for a wickedly good time. When Elizabeth finds out what Angeline is after, it becomes a fight to save her family.

Likes: I really enjoyed the erotic horror. WICKED DECEPTION was as disturbing as it was scandalous as Ms. Greywood entwined an engrossing plot filled with characters that will leave you guessing as to which side they're on. The story progresses well and I loved how well the magical elements were interwoven into the mundane of Victorian England. Elizabeth is a surprisingly strong character and you will find yourself rooting for her with a sense of urgency as the events reach their climax.

Raisa Greywood's WICKED DECEPTION is Book 1 of the Wicked Magic series and contains dark themes, including unequal power exchange, corrective discipline, and explicit sexual content involving MFF ménage. The warnings are in the summary and I'll add it here. This IS a dark story, which also happens to be brilliantly written and a really good start to her series.

This was a weird read for me. I was engaged from the first chapter, but by the time I got to Chapter 9, I didn't want to finish the book. Truthfully, if the writing were not as good as it is, the subject matter would have had me setting this one aside as a DNF. Things just got too harsh for me in chapters 9 and 10 (no judgment - I just know my limits). However, I stuck with it based on the strength of the writing and character development and reviews from friends. In the end, I was glad I did. The stuff that bothered me was explained/resolved and there was redemption for characters I was growing to dislike. This is a HEA romance, so the love story wrapped up a bit too easily for my tastes, but overall the book was enjoyable and I will be reading more from this author.

Be warned - there are DEFINITE triggers in this one (non-con, dub-con, torture disguised as BDSM, etc.), so keep that in mind.

I really enjoyed Wicked Deception. This darkly erotic Victorian-era novel has themes that may not be suited to all tastes but the story line and characters are richly developed. The main female character, Elizabeth, is strong-willed and drives the story. I found her likable and continually rooted for her to overcome the evil that has invaded her home and her marriage bed. While the hero initially leaves a lot to be desired, he finds his redemption and his love for his heroine in the end.

I understand there is to be another book in this series and I am looking forward to reading it as well!

This is a different kind of magic book than I'm used to. I like the aristocratic system here. It plays an interesting role with the magic system. There is a lot going on with mystery and deception. I was not quite sure what was going to happen until I got to the end. This is definitely something I will keep following!

What a great and different read for me.
This story is a historical BDSM magical romance. The characters are well developed and clearly defined. This story leaves you spellbound and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Received ARC for Honest Review.

Book Rating: 3/5
Romance: 2/5
Drama: 5/5
Heat: 3.5/5
Dark: 3/5
BDSM: 3.5/5

Cover Rating: 2.5/5, It has a Historical meets Disney feel, weird. So just saying.... one could assume this is a Teen/Young Adult read based on cover.
I (Me) know it’s not, but accidents happen, so if a kid got a hold of this book...yeah.
That isn’t a Cover I would want, to fit this Genre.

Aka Dark Erotica

So anywho...

If I had known what I was getting into I personally wouldn’t have read it, mainly it’s just because I’m not into the magic scene that much.
I LOVE the paranormal, but I really don’t care that much for witches, spells, witchcraft as a main setting.
So for that reason alone, this book didn’t appeal to me, but I read it anyways.

I read other reviews before I took on the book, and I was astounded at how many said this was a Very Dark Book, and I was like HELL YEAH!!
But trust me this ‘dark’ didn’t even breach my level of darkness, so it may be dark to others but to me it’s more semi-dark.

I found the BDSM & Smexy Scenes, well written for the most part.
Till some of the writing went cheesy Historical Romancey or suddenly felt like the characters were newbies to BDSM later in the book, that left me giggling at inappropriate/weird times.

And Big Words... if you have read my other reviews, then you would know how much I Despise large words being thrown into a book just to make the Authors words look fancier.

There is F/F and FMF moments in here, so if your not a fan or wasn’t expecting it, now you know.

The Romance? Yeah okay sure, it didn’t feel really convincing to me. It left me ehh-ing in the end. So I will label this as a Stamped HEA.

Would I read more of this series? Personally No.

Umm..wow! I was definitely not expecting what happened.
The historical part was somewhat predictable. Heavy on the mystery and deception.
It wasn’t dark romance but erotica. The erotica, bdsm(more sadism) f/f and fmf, you without a doubt enjoy this book.
The end was not predictable. It was a nice change of pace for me.

This was a first for me by Raisa Greywood and I must say that this was a well written book. I have never been much on a historical era book but this one has me begging for more if this series, I couldn't seem to put it down, it was as if I was under a spell.

my heart ached for poor Elizabeth and I wanted to smak Richard and Kill the witch myself. this Story of Elizabeth and Richard was so new and so many twists an turned that it will almost give you whiplash but the book is very much worth the read an the turn of a page.

This book was good in the beginning and then the characters started to be untrue to who they were I was having a hard time finishing it.
I loved the story when they met and got married but then the characters did a flip flop and magic and witches were suddenly introduced.
And I am not a historical fan at all and the writing became very Victorian.

I read this book as an ARC through an ARC group I am a member of, and the words in this review are my very own.

I had no idea what this book was about when I began reading it and almost stopped reading about 30% of the way through, not understanding the type of book it was, or what the author was leading to. The pace of the first 40%, or so, of the book was weighted down by too much telling and not enough showing. The balance between dialogue and narrative stumbled a bit during the beginning, leaving me wondering what the actual story was. Then there was the non-consensual elements of BDSM. As a huge fan, and former practitioner, of the lifestyle, I do not EVER read a book with any non-consensual activities. Dark is one thing and is welcomed into the lifestyle, but Master/Pet play that is forced, or in this case, coerced by magic, was a little bit too sharp for me and it was quite disturbing to me. At that point in the book I was ready to stop reading. I'm glad I didn't.

The final half of the book tells the tale that the book is based on. Never fear, the heroine is extremely strong and bright, and really takes over the book at that point. Lady Angeline was well written and quite colorful, but needed a little more background thrown in so that a reader isn't totally lost in that first section of the book. Richard and Elizabeth are fairly well developed but Richard less so than Elizabeth, which left the hero and heroine slightly unbalanced through the rest of the book.

The story was intriguing and was full of tiny smatterings of humor. I laughed out loud at Elizabeth comparing herself to Newtonian physics, and I loved the references to the Greeks.

While, overall, I wish there had been more information about Richard and more dialogue and interaction that explained the arc of the story to the reader in the first third, the book was well written and the last half far surpassed any problem I had with the first portion.

This book was 3-1/2 stars for me. I liked it, the story was well-told, and it just slightly missed the mark in the telling at the beginning.

This book was wildly original...a mix of historical norms and sexual deviance for that time period. It's riveting and emotional, and while you as the reader will be outraged at some of the behavior, you have to remind yourself that much of this was expected for the 1800's. The author adds magic and an amazing heroine to create a story that dares you to stop reading.

After Elizabeth is bought as a wife by Richard, she's puzzled why, but decides she must do her duty as a wife. Richard is an engima at first, but soon falls into a terrifying role of cruel dominant. We also meet Angeline, who is Richard's courtesan, or lover if you will. Together they wrap Elizabeth in a strange threesome relationship where Elizabeth is treated as less than the help. It is clear that Angeline is in charge until Elizabeth finds out the truth.

I sobbed at some of the scenes when Elizabeth became coherent. She does everything she's told for fear Angeline will find out she's not spelled any longer and do worse this time. There's some non-con and punishment scenes that got me very emotional. The book is written flawlessly, and vocabulary proper for the time period. I loved the quotes at the top of each chapter. They were thoughtful and meaningful.

Yes, there are some difficult scenes for me, but it was because I got heavily invested in the Elizabeth character quickly. She's young, went through a terrible childhood and yet stays strong and educated. It was delightful to have scenes where she read some of the highest education tomes of the time...some even highly regarded today. To pull all this off, the author has to be highly intelligent and organized. I don't know many that could pull off the authenticity of the book, while designing thrilling drama scenes. This is an author to watch.

Wicked Deception was part period piece, part magic, and part sexual awakenings. It took me a little bit to get into this story. There was a lot of narration and not so much engaging dialogue to draw me into the story. I'm not a stranger to this type of writing, but it's one of those books where you have to keep reading to get to the other side. Elizabeth was on a journey to find who she really was, with the help of Lady Angeline. This wasn't a particularly dark story, although there were dark elements, and it wasn't a highly sexually charged one, despite the BDSM involved. It's still worth reading, especially if you're not into the super dark romances out there.

This book starts out as a classic Victorian novel.
The daughter of a derelict Aristocrat is sold into marriage. When she arrives at her new husbands home she soon finds out that she is Lady of the house in name only.
As soon as her husbands mistress moves in, things begin to take an unexpected turn. Rather quickly the story expands into power exchange, pet play, and then takes a turn into witchcraft, spells and sacrifice.
Well written, loads of blistering hot menage scenes, villains and heroes, this turned out to be a "Wicked Witch" tale for grownups.
I like it!

So many things about this book—the witty and ironic use of classic sayings, the darkly wonderful magic, the unpredictably feisty heroine, and the sexy and hopeful love story—make this an absolute pleasure to read.

Ms. Greywood has put together a story you can’t predict with crisply delicious writing. You will end up rooting for Elizabeth and damning her enemies (who come in various forms). Her swoony new husband breaks out the sex appeal from the first minute, and even when things go terribly wrong, he never stops being a hero worth loving.

This book gets my highest recommendation.

This is my first book by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it had a lot of elements that I enjoy in books.

It takes place in a historical setting and it has magic and darker elements, but for me the most important element is the characters. I always enjoy characters that are not perfect, they have flaws, make mistakes and aren’t always happy.

I really enjoy Elisabeth, she was smart, loved to read and educate herself and was strong and feisty, but also had a bad temper at times and wasn’t always kind. But that made her real.

I look forward to reading the second book.

A sexy and interesting read!

My first read by the author and it did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprise with this read, the historical setting with the BSDM aspect made for an enjoyable read. It also was a FFM which I never read before but I found it to be sexy and hot. Overall a good read with the right amount of heat and interesting storyline that kept me entertained.

This was an enjoyable read. It started out what I thought was a naughty historical read but turned into a paranormal witchy read. It started off innocent enough for Elizabeth Stratton. Her drunk father decided her fate of marriage and sells her to marry the handsome Lord Richard Shepton. Then things start to take twists and gets into a mix of domestic discipline and BDSM. It had many elements that I like in a book. Can't wait to start book 2.

I found my self very intrigued by this unique read. I thought the story was quite unique and also very compelling. I don't feel that this is a book that will appeal to all readers with its blend of BDSM, magic and ménage that all occurs in a historical setting. This is definitely a true horse of a different color, so if you are a broad minded reader it is worth a read. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Really good dark read

This is a erotic dark paranormal story. Very original story at least for me I haven’t read anything like this before. Very well written and it’s more of a historical romance book. This is the first in the series but it’s a stand alone with HEA. So bottom line it’s good and I will read the next book.

Wicked good

It is Set in the late 1800’s. I would consider this a paranormal romance with darkness in almost every corner. Written from the perspective of Elizabeth as she faces dark and disturbing situations due to a spell. It’s not really a battle of good vs. evil, but gives you insight on the debauched mind of a bad witch.
I loved it and I look forward to book 2!!!!

As this was a historical para romance I wasn't sure how to gage it at first. I found the early chapters at war with the era the book was set in, but carried on to see what direction this book would go. I was glad I did. It had a different twist and not knowing who was good or evil helped to gear the tale up. Well worth the read.

Wow! Definitely a page turner for me from beginning to end but after she was.. ‘set free’ during the horseride.. I was hooked! Witchcraft and spells, the dark upbringing Elizabeth endured and the wonderfully terrible Richard and angeline. This was a fantastic read and a first for me with this author. Definitely looking forward to another story of hers
