USA Today Bestselling author, Violet Paige, lives in North Carolina and would rather be by the water than anywhere else, maybe it’s because she’s from OBX, yes that OBX. Writing full-time, mom’ing full time and taking any stray dog that walks by the porch keep her inspired, busy and mostly exhausted, let’s be honest. She writes hot, edgy and angsty romances with strong heroines and fierce loves.
This is the latest fun, passionate and fast paced read by Violet Paige. We meet Jake who is a Ranger and he's just got back from a mission in which his best friend, Elliot, didn't make it back. But Jake promised Elliot that he would help Elliot's sister, Olivia, and protect her. Meanwhile Olivia is just getting to terms with the loss of her brother when she comes home one day to find a strange big truck in her driveway and a very handsome man on her step. He introduces himself and explains why he is there. The attraction between them is instantaneous and unexpected. Jake starts to help her fix her house up but the pull of attraction between them over takes them and they end up making passionate love. Feelings between them develop the longer they spend time together until the unexpected happens and he leaves her without a word. Not a note. NOTHING. Will Olivia hear form him again? Why did he go? If he does get in touch, will she still be there after her house is sold?? All these questions will be answered when you get yourself your own copy and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I confess that I really liked the plot, the two main characters of Olivia and Jake were well developed and it was all going so well until right at the end. I say this as I felt the ending could have been expanded more or even an epilogue added so that we could catch a glimpse of how their HEA was progressing. But, nevertheless, it was still very entertaining and beautifully written by Violet Paige and I will be looking forward to her next book with anticipation. Included in the book are TWO exclusive books not available anywhere else. They are :- Slow Burn and Second Chance Doctor. I received a free reader's copy and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. However, I purchased my own copy and that's how I know that the two additional books are such good reads.
I read this book as part of an arc program. This was the story of Olivia, a young woman who lost her brother Elliot while he was in the army rangers and now she is at his house to pack it up and get it ready to sell. Olivia used to have her own restaurant until it burned down and now she is unsure what to do. One afternoon Jake shows up and tells her he is a friend of Elliot's and has a letter for her he wrote. Elliot also asked Jake to look after Olivia, so when he sees the house is in desperate need of repairs, he tells her he will fix things for her. Jake is still in the rangers and is awaiting orders to return to finish his mission. Jake is attracted to Olivia but thinks it will be unfair to be with her when he knows he has to leave again. When they can't fight things any longer, Jake gets the call and leaves. This was a good book and a little emotional. I loved how Jake wanted to do the right thing and I think he really did love Olivia. Good one.
This is one hot short story about Jake who is a Ranger. Jake has just finished a tour and is on his way to fulfill a promise to his best friend, Elliot that he would protect and help his sister Olivia with whatever she needed. It’s been a month since Olivia found out Elliot passed away while serving as a Ranger and one day she finds a strange truck and man on her step. Jake’s mission is to fix up Olivia’s summer home and finds it hard to stay away romantically from her. Olivia does not understand her attraction to Jake and wants to take that next step. When they can not stay away from one another things go from wonderful to heartbreak real quickly. Will Jake ever make it back to Olivia or will she move on after selling her home? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
The story idea has promise but it was poorly executed. And way too fast without any character development or actual chemistry. Jake, an Army Ranger, shows up at Olivia’s house to make good on a promise he made to her now dead brother. Jake fixes up her house and after a month they have sex. The next morning Jake leaves to go back on mission. He’s on mission and gets caught in an explosion, but luckily doesn’t die or get hurt. And decides he’s done and wants to be with Olivia so he lies and says she’s pregnant. He returns to Olivia’s house and they have sex immediately and then he confesses that he told his superiors she was pregnant so he could get out. 🙄 The end. Right….because that’s how it all works…
And the super awkward switch from first to third person in the same sentence made it difficult to read. Who does that!? Needs major editing. And a better developed story.
This is sweet and romantic, but also heartbreaking. Jake is loyal, honorable and determined. Olivia is tough, lonely and caring. Jake comes to her because he promised her brother he would help her, he didn't expect to fall in love. Liv grudgingly accepts his help, but can't help being drawn to him. But Jake is too honorable to sleep with her and then leave her. Things happen eventually, but it's the same night that he gets called back to duty. The end has a few surprises that you don't see coming, but are intriguing. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I really liked the actual storyline in this book and the idea of the characters so I wanted to like it, but unfortunately the quality of the writing was not great and very distracting...it was constantly switching between first and third person within the same paragraph, and the spelling and grammar needed checking.... I’m not being overly picky, there was a LOT of issues and like I said, distracted me from enjoying it. If this author employed an editor on her next book I’d try her again because I thought the ideas were good, but I found I had to force my way through this one.
Jake is a soldier who came back with the hurt of losing a friend on a mission. He gave his friend the promise to look after his sister. She is off limit but the instant attraction takes them both and it is not easy to keep away. Can they get through the hurt of losing Elliot or with this tear them apart? When Jake just leaves without explaining anything can she forgive him? No spoilers but READ IT! A very well written story with great storyline and plot. Characters are well described and very likeable.
This book seemed like it could have been a great book. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The constant switch between first person and third person, was confusing to the point that it took away from the story. There was also a few missing words here and there. It would have been much better has it been longer and more detailed. It was too short and things happened way to quickly to be believable. I didn't bother to read the "bonus" stories.
Jake is a Ranger and on his last mission, his best friend Elliot dies. He promised Elliot he would take care of his sister Olivia. Jake goes to see Olivia and ends up helping her fix up her house, as they spend more time together they end up spending the night together. When Olivia wakes up the next morning he is gone. Will he be back? Fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. I liked the characters and the story, an entertaining read.
he promised her brother that he would look after her, she just lost her live hood and was getting the place ready to sell. He helped her fixed the place up and fell in love with her, he could not stay with her because he had one mission to complete. He left and she thought that he was gone for good. He came back and they were happy together as her brother wanted her to be because he new that his friend was perfect for his sister

A steamy and enjoyable brother's best friend romance. An emotional story of two people brought together by a promise and loss and grief. Characters have good chemistry and an instant connection. With quite a bit of drama, angst and emotional upheaval. I'm posting an honest, voluntary review after reading this book.
Jake a" Ranger" made a promise to his best friend Elliott. To go back to Oregon & protect his sister. When Jake couldn't save his friend & commander from the failed mission. He knew he had to keep his word. What he didn't expect was to find his best friend's sister to be the missing piece of his own life. Read the emotional & steamy romance of the two.
While I really enjoyed this story and the fast moving plot, someone definitely needs to hire an editor or proof readers before they write more stories. The characters could use a little more developing too, but you still get a feel for them. Some good spice and lots of angst made for an entertaining read.
However, this seriously needed a good proof reader/editor. The pronouns were so confusing it was beyond woke! I worked with the military for thirty years and my dad was a life long Army Ranger. Early on he learned and repeated to his troops that "if the Army wanted you to have a wife, the army would have issued you one".
Back stateside, a ranger needs to go to a fellow rangers home to let her know what happened. Jake meets Olivia, has her contact his unit, things aren't as they seem, feelings hurt, life unsure, expectations unknown, great story, loved it❤️.
Love At First Sight? What a quick fun read! I have read several books by Violet. They are all enjoyable easy reads. You can read this in a few short hours. Great story. I read an advanced copy, this is my honest review.
We follow Jake’s life after his friend dies, it is filled with a beautiful woman that keeps him on his toes. Fall in love with them and their rocky road ahead. I highly recommended this short story.
Had potential but missed the mark. Too abruptly turned into sex starved maniacs without really knowing each other. How is that a basis for the rest of your life? Felt rushed and the ending left much to be desired.
This is going on my DNF shelf. The author needed to decide whether she would write in 1st or 3rd person POV. The POV would switch in the middle of the sentence. It was really aggravating. It was also pretty obvious that she didn't know much about the military.
Arc review For honest review. Jake is in the military Ranger unit .Olivia is the younger sister of Elliot one of his military buddies and when there's a promise they will be keeper. Awesome
