When Jennifer Jones Austin, wife, mother, lawyer and child advocate, and the picture of good health, found herself burdened by a fever she couldn’t shake, doctors insisted it was merely viral and told her to sleep it off. Just days later she lay comatose with a 99% probability of imminent death.
Stricken suddenly with an acute form of leukemia that required a bone marrow transplant to increase her chances of survival, Jennifer and her family and friends were in a race against time as she fought cancer and together they searched for a bone marrow donor to cure her and others of the deadly disease.
With focus and precision that will leave you breathless, Consider It Pure Joy is a story that if not lived would make for a great novel. It is the harrowing account of one woman's horrific battle with a life-threatening illness, and the power of faith and community to transform desperation into joy.
I teared up several times reading this beautifully-written memoir by Jennifer Jones Austin. Ms. Austin brings the reader along on a heartfelt spiritual and human journey, honestly sharing her struggles and insights with the reader. I don’t usually read memoirs but, as one of the 13,000 people who swabbed to increase the donor banks, even though I knew I wouldn’t likely be a match, I wanted to read more about what she had gone through. I was amply rewarded by this glorious book. Jennifer Jones Austin’s survival was one of the best feel-good stories of the decade. I highly recommend this book.
This is one of the most captivating memoirs I've had the pleasure of reading. Jennifer Jones Austin writes with poignancy and conviction, entrancing me with shocking details and unbelievable strength. Her story is one that needs to be read to be believed. This is a book I won't soon forget.
I didn't know this young lady or her story, but saw that a reading friend was raging this on a flight and I wanted to read it...AMAZING! What an inspirational story... thanks Jennifer for sharing your story.
This book will change your life. Things that you thought were so important in your life, will in the end not truly matter, especially if you are faced with a life changing experience as this author did.
Jennifer has a gift for story telling that makes even her journey through cancer inspirational. I feel blessed that she shared her truth with the world
