Note; this is NOT a PC novel Book 8 of the exciting "We Knew They Were Coming" series answers the questions of who are the real Darkness, where did they come from and why do they hate everyone. Are there other aliens out there waiting for strike? Where is Admiral Bright? Who took him and what do they want from him? How will he escape? What happens to the Enterprise? Life has a way of going full circle, old things usually become new again, can evil be defeated? Will the AIs that really manage the universe take charge. Book 8 is loaded with mystery, intrigue, answers and questions. There are space battles, behind the scenes political dealing, life and death, old and new tricks. The war continues which sucks in system after system.
Here I am thinking about the first book, a very different style of writing which did appeal to me, having read some reviews. Reading it was a different story. I could only compare it with wading through treacle but the basic premise of the story made me soldier through. As the books have come on the writing has taken on a life of it's own, along with the story. Its gotten better in every was as the series has gone on. Style, excitement and depth of characters has left me annoyed that I can't pass "go" and move straight to the next book. Truly turning a frustrating book one into a "can't wait for the next". If you are reading this Ira, you have really outdone yourself.
Once again Ira has done an amazing job. I purchased this, after Beta Reading, because I love this series! While it’s not your everyday series, it is a fun read. It’s a great series, active, interesting and exciting. Be ready to keep up, it is a great ride!
The story is reaching a climax and has the Admiral defeated the Darkness? Whilst it’s good to expand the universe and add new characters, it’s also getting a bit tedious with the Admiral always winning. Perhaps the next book will change that?
