This was a sweet and yet terrifying tale of Fae and tricks and love

Breanna and Edric are in love and yet they know they can never marry because Edric is a blacksmith's son and Breanna is a Lady. And yet their love is so strong, they decide to ran away together to start a new life.
But what they dont see, is that in their journey they'll be thrown into the Fairy Kingdom and have to play the games of the Thorn King to survive.

Will their love be strong enough to win the tests given or will it destroy their happily ever after ?

It was such an interesting little story, would have loved to see more of this, but the book ends well and there is a lot that happens even if it's so small!

Very short and full of difficult decisions for the couple. If honest I actually felt rather sorry for the obviously lonely king but true love has to win out. My first by this author but I will try other books by her as it wasn't badly written just a tad predictable

3.5 fair-ly developed stars!

•The one thing I feel like pointing out.

The characters both go into fae territory and know perfectly well that fae can hold grudges.

However, after entering the differing realm, it seems their uglier sides come out.

I both adored and despised this as the characters were intriguing and displayed real development in that they had to overcome their insecurities.

However, again, it seems their mistakes had a vast disparity in 'badness' (not a word, but it makes sense in this case to me at least).

The female MC becomes a cheater while the male has doubts about their marriage to-be, however, he does show he is vain as well. These are two completely separate from each other as one is about the present, right before they are to leave to get married, and the other is for the future before they get married and are together forever (perhaps).

Maybe it's just something that ticks me off, but I feel as if these should've been discussed out a bit more before the "happily ever after" as the characters' acceptance seemed a little off.

Overall though, I felt the writing and characters were fun for read as there was never a dull moment that I had to skim a lot of.

A short (less than 60 pages) story with a few grammatical issues but surprisingly good characters for such a short story. If you’re looking for a fairy tale and a quick read, this freebie might be for you.

Fairy Ring by Nicolette Andrews is a short fantasy romance about a pair of lovers who cross a fairy ring in a forest and are transported to a fae kingdom. The Thorn King wants them to play his game…can their love stand the tests that he has in store for them?
Fairy Ring is an engaging short story about romance, magic, and temptation. Brenna and Edric are young and in love and looking to strike out on their own. After stumbling into the fae kingdom things take a turn for them. I find it interesting how both characters are tested differently. They both seek to find each other and escape but I find it interesting that they waver. I like that the author does this because it kept me engaged in the story. I’ll admit to that there were moments that I wanted Brenna to stay.
I enjoyed this story and it does have a happy ending/happily ever after. I will say that this book has a few editorial errors here and there throughout the book. Most of the errors show up in the second half, but they are there. Most of the errors do not distract or detract from the overall story, but they do catch the eye.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. The story is good, but it left me with a few questions concerning certain things in the story. What happened to the ring Edric was given? Also, the errors were simple and easily noticed. This is a good story, but just needs a bit of sprucing up. If you are looking for a quick story about the power of true love then this is a good story to pick up.

I love grabbing a Nicolette Andrews for my Japan fix. I get lost in her writing so quickly, drawn back to my early teen years and mellow afternoons curling up with an anime DVD. It’s an instant safe place (this is the bookish equivalent of opening the cookie jar for a quick pleasant sniff but not actually satisfying yourself with a biscuit. Most people would call that, accurately, torment - but it certainly does get you extra mileage when those cookies/chapters are running low!) With that in mind, I was eager to see her take on fairy, particularly as this novella was a freebie.

Full of fae lore, that aspect was a real delight. I’m intrigued to dip into the Thornwood series itself and am all kinds of smitten with the Thorn King. Unfortunately this particular story wasn’t for me. The two human MCs didn’t grab me and as a result I just wasn’t invested in this story. I didn’t mind if the two, having stumbled into Thornwood and the realm of the Thorn King, actually escaped or not. The peril and drama was there but my interest had shifted from Fairy Ring to finding out if anyone had Labyrinth and what excuse might convince my partner to put it on after dinner... Which does confirm my theory, Nicolette Andrews writes amazing worlds for giving you major nostalgia cravings and a quick hit of contentment.

Fairy Ring was a really fun read. If you like romance stories with fae elements, you might want to give this one a try.

I liked the characters quite a bit. Despite this being a romantic story, our main leads were both very flawed individuals. Brenna is no picture perfect Disney princess and Edric is definitely not a flawless fairy tale prince charming! Their character arcs were surprisingly rather well explored despite the short length of the story, which was something that I really enjoyed.

As for the Thorn King, he was a delight to read about. I need more stories with him! If there are already more stories with him out there published by the author, I'll definitely check them out. The setting and atmosphere of the story were also very well depicted. Again, I'd love to read more stories that explore the fae realm we get a glimpse of here.

My only complaint would be that the ending felt a little too perfect. I would have prefered a less perfect fairy tale ending in favor of one which could have been a little more daring and realistic.

I still really enjoyed this story though and would definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy romance and fae stories.

Slight Spoilers

This was an interesting little starter novella to the series. I know the trilogy’s main character is named Catherine, so I’m wondering if we’ll ever see Brenna and Edric again, or if this was just a little world building/separate story that still takes place in the Thornwood universe.

It was cute and quick. A little uncomfortable at times due to how the seductress fae’s body was being described, but I couldn’t tell if that was done in purpose or not because she was supposed to be making Edric feel lustful towards her. The story was sometimes a little too quick for me, maybe it’s because it’s a novella, but sometimes I wondered how Brenna and Edric would question their feelings for each other so fast after assumingly loving each other for so long beforehand. Maybe it was the magic of the fae, but it was never explicitly stated I don’t think.

Overall though I enjoyed the plot. This novella just didn’t leave much of a mark on me.

I've read a lot of faery/fae tales over the last 3 years (and probably since I was a kid, too), and this has got to be one of the most boring. I love a HEA but this was just boring; despite the stakes seeming to be high for the characters, the characters weren't 3D enough for me to root for either of them individually OR together.

FMC should've , that would've been the more interesting story. le sigh.

also there are definitely editing/grammar errors; this could've used a better editor.

Read this only because I'm a completionist and I'm looking to read the main Thornwood Fae trilogy.

A short, whimsical read. The fae were an interesting part of the story and I liked reading about them and their cunning ways. The rest of Fairy Ring fell flat for me, unfortunately. The characters were rather foolish and the world-building was non-existent. Maybe if it had been a bit longer, some of the details could’ve been better incorporated and it wouldn’t have felt like we were jumping between perspectives so much. There were also numerous errors in punctuation and spelling. Typically I can look past that, but it was rather jarring as errors showed up every few sentences. When mistakes are that abundant, it’s hard to focus on the story itself. Overall, this one’s not really for me, but others may enjoy it if they’re looking for a quick, romantic read.

What a delightful story. A couple in love wished to elope as their parents would not approve of their union. However, as they traveled the path through the forest, Brenna saw her beloved Edric step into a circle of white mushrooms and disappeared into the ground. Of course Brenna had to follow him so they would not be separated. From here on out Ms Andrews creates a fantasy world that one moment is a magical wonderland and the next moment is a dreadful nightmare. This was my first book written by Ms Andrews and I can assure you it will not be my last. I will forever be intrigued by her style of writing.

Fairy Ring is an awesome prequel to the Heart of Thorns. Enough to make me want to reread it. Brenna and Edric are two lovers that dared to tread in the Thorn and find themselves in peril of those who dwell in the Thorn.

This is a short read with some enchanting characters, fae, and a dash of deceit that will leave the reader wanting more. Nicolette Andrews is definitely an author to follow as I am often surprised by twists and new life written into tales of myth and legend, trope and fantasy.

Fairy Ring was a fun prequel to Heart of Thorns. It features forbidden lovers, Brenna and Edric, who try to run away to be married. But to escape Brenna's father, they must hide in the woods of Thornwood, where they wind up on an adventure that could test the nature of their love.

This prequel was especially nice for its vivid detail of the Kingdom of Thorns. I also really love the challenges the main characters are offered.

Definitely a must-read if you love reading about the fae!

Honestly, I enjoyed this one for her use of tension, but also where she took it. The ending left me wondering how Brenna & Edric's life went from there

Fairy tale romance that turns into a psychological thriller

Most fairy tales are about how love conquers all, about love at first sight, about the happily ever that is sure to come if our lovers follow their hearts.

This story travels down the other possible futures, the whatifs, the realities the young lovers never considered. Is their love true, or are they in love with a dream? There are also many elements reminiscent of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.

This is a story about proving your love for another. The Thorn King wants a queen, but a willing one. Brenna and Edric know they shouldn't go into the woods, but they do. The king gives them test after test to prove just how much they really love each other. This is a whirlwind of a short story and you see what each person has to do it get back to the human world. You see their hearts deepest secrets and what happens once those secrets are exposed

I found this story entertaining and fast-paced.

Sweet story

This was the story of two young, naive, lovers coming to maturity but never losing their love for one another. It was a fun little adventure but it did feel like the pacing was too fast and maybe would have done better being a little longer. Still worth the read, I enjoyed it quite a bit and will be reading more from this author.

Interesting

This story was interesting and ends leaving you wondering what happens next but knowing you'll never know. Kind of a "choose your own ending." The characters were tested and in the end it works out...maybe...

Somewhat confusing

It seems both of the young people in this fairy tale were somewhat silly! Both forced to face a future they had failed to plan for, they are forced to consider the what if's! Confusing!

Not your typical fairy tale

The age old attraction of the unavailable sweetheart has a test that only the most courageous can survive. I was amazed at the descriptions of dreamlike scenes that felt real and unreal at the same time.

The few and the fae King were interesting. He was the most interesting character. I did not care for the main characters. The fae King is out to trick and deceive the hero and heroine.

Short story

This was a quick read, really a short story. It was okay. Escape from the Fae was interesting, but I didn't really care about the charecters.
