“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. Did not enjoy this book & I do not recommend it. My biggest issue was that the author said about Jesus “the disciples knew that His source of power to fulfill His destiny was directly related to His time with the Father.” And he said “The power to forgive, to heal, to comfort, to feed, to set free- Jesus accomplished all these things as a result of His time of prayer.”
NOPE. Absolutely not. This argument undermines the divinity of Jesus. Jesus doesn’t have power to heal because he prays. He has power to heal BECAUSE HE IS GOD.

Were there beneficial chapters in this little devotional? Yes. Were there also major theological issues? Yes.

The premise is good: Christians often neglect their prayer life. It is amazing privilege to be able to bring all our needs before the Lord. Let's be more faithful, confident and eager to actually do so.

Some of the actually points addressed are true: We should pray continuously, earthly concerns ought not supersede spiritual requests, prayer needs to be confident, we should pray for our pastors and spiritual leader.

Yet this small volume is disappointing because of a muddiness about what prayer actually is. Prayer is not itself the power of God at work in us. God does not use prayer to forgive our sins, strengthen our faith or reveal his will. Prayer is speaking to God. We certainly can/should seek these things of the Lord when we talk to him or pray. But the answer is not the request. God gives these things in response to prayer (and often even when we fail to ask--how gracious he is!). But God does not give these things prayer; he gives them through the Gospel or the message of Jesus Christ.

The author tends to be more emotive in his language than clear and precise. He wants to touch the heart--but he fails to say much when trying to do so. He deals with sin only in a cursory fashion. Because of sin, prayer is impossible. Why would God listen to his enemy? Yet, in Christ we can prayer, for in Christ our sin has been removed and forgiven.

Furthermore our confidence in prayer needs to be wedded to promises of God. Yes, the Lord is good and gracious. But the good Lord may have a good reason to answer my request in a way different from what I desire. In such a case I need to learn to recognize that he has not failed (nor have I failed, nor has prayer failed) and conform myself to his will. But where we are given a specific promise, we know God's will and can be certain he will keep his Word. This would include prayers for forgiveness, strength in faith, blessing on worship, protection from the devil, etc.

Finally, there is a hint of triumphalism in his presentation. There is the promise that your life is lacking because you don't pray rightly and will be more rich, full, and successful if you do. In spiritual terms, yes we will reap blessing as we speak to the Lord and ask for what we need and desire. Yet, this will not always be apparent in earthly terms. It can not always be seen or felt. So the one who is suffering, who doesn't improvement in their lot, could easily feel the burden of being a failure, when in fact all Christians share in the cross of Christ. I've read much worse examples of this triumphalism, but even this muted form can burden bruised reeds.

Summary: Prayer is important but this book won't teach you accurately about it.

I really enjoyed this 21 day devotional. I believe it was/is truly life changing for myself and others. I found this beautifully written devo book in goodwill and I truly believe my coming across it was divine. I could feel God all over this past 21 days as I went through this devo. It was heavily focused on the power of agreement and how it moves mountains when it comes to pray. It also focused on the meaning of prayer and how to pray powerfully. I will probably, most definitely re-visit this devo just for the amazing tips it had in there on prayer. This has been a beautiful journey and I can wait to continue reaping the beautiful fruits of this devo and to see how it transforms the life of my loved one. I don't think I have enough words to express how beautifully put together and God ordained/divine this devo was/is. Thankful is what I feel after going through this 21 day devotional. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to increase their prayer life and become more efficient in how they pray. Again....thankful!

This book is frustrating for multiple reasons.
1. It uses Scripture out of place and even admits it.
2. It feels as if the author believes he is the best “prayer” ever and we should all learn from him. It is a hard thing to get past

I was deeply disappointed by this book and it’s lack of biblical backing. I attempted to work through this with a group of students and they were all equally frustrated.

I really enjoy this book because it is great for new Christian’s on how important prayer is. It addresses a lot of mistakes new Christian’s make and addresses them. It’s also really short so no matter how busy your day is it helps supplement your faith and understanding of how powerful and needed prayer is. Sure it isn’t like the best thing ever, but this book was one of my first books supplementary to my journey as a Christian besides the Bible (obviously) and I really have no complaints. It isn’t the best thing ever, but it’s truly helped me grasp some things I never really addressed before and made me hold myself accountable to do better. Overall, it’s achieved its purpose, I’m a better Christian than I was 21 days ago. :)

I stretched this one out far more than 21 days, but I did truly appreciate these devos. I only did them on days I could do both parts, the reading and the online listening, and usually did them with my husband; was also tracking with 2 friends. It was refreshing to have a new approach to prayer. I appreciated the faithfulness of praying for pastors/churches in particular. I have also come to appreciate the power of people all over the globe participating in the same prayers, in force, in a way. I will use this one again.

A daily reminder and encouragement to focus on prayer can never be a bad thing, but I found this slim volume light on scripture and theology. While some of the historical and personal anecdotes were relevant and encouraging, others felt like filers-- not something to be expected in a book with such a small page count. Still others, while not counterscriptural, didn't seem to be supported by any scripture or by clear Biblical principles. Cathy Maxim's testimony about being certain someone prayed for her at birth was particularly suspect in this regard.

This book was read by my church family as we focused together on Spiritual Breakthrough. The book laid out 21 simple truths to guide us in unity of praying together. The daily readings are rich with far more study than just 21 days. You will be encouraged as you read and study this together with friends, but you will also be personally challenged to grow in your prayer life.

Overall I thought this book was good. It was nice to coincide with 21 Days of Prayer. Another place for stimulating ideas in terms of how we pray or how to approach God in prayer. Wasn’t especially revelatory, but it was quality. Overall a helpful resource.

21 Days of Intimate Fellowship

These 21 days were spent in a close intimate encounter with our Heavenly Father. This is the third book of prayer I’ve purchased and each one was an amazing encounter.

A somewhat comprehensive guide in prayer. I wish I followed this a little better especially with the daily activities that are encouraged and that warrants this for a reread!

I liked the short lesson and breakdown of a particular Scripture each day. It was encouraging and a great reminder to be constantly refocusing my mind on praying to the Lord for all things.
