Baytown Boys… Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.
**The language and sexual scenes in the book are similar to what you would see in an R rated movie, therefore the book is for 18+ readers.**
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
Zac Hamilton is the fire chief in his hometown on Baytown. A place he came back to after the Navy just like many of the other close male friends he grew up with known as the Baytown boys. He has been really feeling the pressure of so much work with his job duties but now a rash of fires that have been happening to his and neighboring counties have added more.
Madelyn "Maddie" Stevens is a mental health counselor that grew up in Baytown but moved away with her mother when her parents divorced. Now she is back to deal with her father's estate. A father that unfortunately she lost in many ways once she moved away even before his death.
Maddie remembers many of the residents of Baytown including Zac even though it's been years. She is embraced by the community and helped without asking when dealing with her father's memorial. Zac got a chance to speak with her father one night about their military experience and spoke at the memorial. Maddie who doesn't is still dealing with how to feel with her dad and his death lashes out at Zac but later apologizes and they become friends and then friends with benefits. They find they have so much in common and the feelings that come scare them both. Unfortunately the fires by a unknown assailant has started to pick up and Maddie gets caught up in the case as well and is threatened. So now they Zac must find whose behind everything as well as try to keep the woman he is falling in love with before she decides to leave again.
I enjoyed the story and the characters even though I can feel like the women friends can be so nosy and even a little pushy but their hearts are in the right place no matter what. I have enjoyed a couple of others in the series so know many of the characters from those but never felt lost reading this one. It was a 4 for me and it was one that I felt was a good solid read. The heroine was very likable and I could understand many of her feelings. The hero was alpha but not ott and one I could feel for his situation too. I think for me many of the things discussed with both the characters past was a little difficult since it hit home for me in many ways and I could understand on a deeper level what they felt. I was surprised by who did it and didn't see that one coming so that made that part enjoyable too. It is dual pov with a little pov from the arsonist. It is also a safe and pretty low angst read I would recommend.
4.5 star review of Sunset Flames (Baytown Boys #7) by Maryann Jordan
This is Zac Hamilton and Madelyn (Maddie) Stover’s story. Returning home after his time in the Navy, Zac is now the Fire Chief for Baytown.
When a fire leads to Zac and Maddie meeting sparks fly and attraction sizzles. Both realise that they have more in common than first thought and as they get to know each other the attraction intensifies.
Sunset Flames is a story filled with suspense and danger as an arsonist is starting fires throughout the town.
This was a gripping and well written book and I loved the camaraderie and friendships between the men and their women as they all banded together to help one another.
It is a story full of love, hope, forgiveness and courage and one I really enjoyed.
I loved this story I got a real attachment to the story and was sad when it ended I need more. Zac Hamilton is part of the Baytown boys and just like the rest of them, he returns back. Zac is the fire chief so has a lot of work especially now that there is an arsonist on the loose. Madelyn Stover came back to Baytown to bury her estranged father. She moved away with her mom so didn't get to know her father until she finds his journals and begins to put the piece together. Not sure where to start she makes friends with the Baytown girls and soon as help where she didn't know she needed. Bring in Zac and Madelyn it was cute to see them form a relationship, she wasn't expecting to stay long in Baytown but with all her friends and Zac is making her rethink leaving. Loveeeeee this story I think Zac is my new favorite Baytown boy (MAN) Oh man, when she would read the journals left from her dad broke my heart, I'm close to my own dad so this story got to me.
I volunteered to read this story in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, sadness, pain, suspense, and heartbreak.
Before reading this story please read the below books first Coming Home (Baytown Boys #1) Just One More Chance (Baytown Boys #2) Clues of the Heart (Baytown Boys Series) Finding Peace (Baytown Boys #4) Picking Up the Pieces (Baytown Boys #5)
This is Madelyn and Zac’s story. Madelyn has returned to Baytown to bury her estranged father and then return home. But when she finds journals that he wrote about his marriage and her she is floored. Everything she thought she knew is not exactly as it seems. Now she is trying to pick up the pieces after the truth is revealed. When an arsonist sets fire to her property and she needs help Zac steps up. As they slowly for a bond she wonders what else she missed beside time with her father. Zac has promised to keep her safe, but can he keep her heart safe? As they both fall she must decide if she will stay or go as she originally planned.
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Positives: Good storyline. Good characters and secondary ones. Romance and mystery. Some steamy scenes. Super sweet and emotional moments (loved her father's heartbreaking journals) Negatives: No epilogue Loads of misspellings. No definitive break between context in chapters, just jumps from one sentence one topic or place to something or somewhere else in the next. Biggest complaint, the mystery only one set of people where divulged when clearly in the story it indicated others involved. Frustrated! This story had great potential but was only slightly fulfilled! Free with ku, maybe I'll give this series and author one more chance due to all the characters and story. She really did create a good book it just had a lot of flaws!
aaahhhh back to my favorite town!! Baytown just makes you want to live their too!! This book is zac and Madelyn’s, it was a very sweet read of course it was written very well! Maryann can tell a tale like no other!! Zac is the fire chief and because it’s a small town he’s doing a whole bunch of jobs! He’s one of the original Baytown boys, his father was the town drunk and many of the men stepped up to help zac through life and their sons were part of the Baytown boys! Maddy lived in Baytown when she was young but her father was sort of an alcoholic so the mother moved them away when she was in her teens and she hasn’t seen her father since! Her father passed away and leaves her everything so she has to go back to Baytown to deal with all her fathers things she finds some of her fathers journals and realizes things are not what they seem!! There’s an arsonist on the loose starting fires and this is how they meet! Like I said it was a sweet , heartwarming story and of course it was also hot and steamy!! I definitely recommend reading it and the whole series!! Thank you Maryann Jordan for another amazing read!!!

‘Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.’
Sunset Flames is the sixth instalment in the Baytown Boys series by Maryann Jordan. Having seen these books pop up on social media and reading my GR friend’s reviews of the series I started collecting the books quite some time ago, but has taken me till now to finally plunge in. Maryann Jordan’s Baytown Boys series is a 17-book romantic suspense saga that masterfully weaves together themes of camaraderie, love, healing, and personal redemption. Set in the fictional coastal town of Baytown, an idyllic seaside town, this series follows a close-knit group of former military friends who return home from service overseas and strive to create a supportive environment for themselves and less fortunate veterans. Ms. Jordan’s storytelling fuses small-town charm with emotional depth, making the setting a vivid and integral component of her storyline/s. Each book centers around a different MC, exploring their unique struggles and romantic journeys. The veterans’ experiences and wartime scars are written with sensitivity and authenticity, adding an extra element of emotional resonance to the relationships and characters personal growth. Ms. Jordan cleverly balances romance with mystery and suspense. From murder investigations to drug rings, each plot includes high-stakes elements that kept me engaged, all while the romantic tension sizzled. But, beyond the romance/s, intrigue, and action - the stories also show the healing power of friendship, love, and a supportive community - which created a warm and reassuring backdrop for the more intense elements. This series is ideal for readers of contemporary romantic suspense with a military element and small-town setting. Happy Reading…
This is book 7 in the Baytown Boys series and can absolutely be read as a standalone book. I didn't read the previous books before this one (although I have since gone back and read them now) and understood everything that happens in this book. This book is about Zac Hamilton, who is considered one of the original Baytown Boys, and Madelyn Stover, who grew up in Baytown until her parents divorce when she was in high school. Zac has come home after serving in the Navy and is now the Fire Chief for Baytown. But with the lack of funds to have more paid personnel, he is running himself ragged trying to do everything. Madelyn has come back to bury her father. She hasn't seen him since her parents divorced and has her own issues with the way things happened with her parents. And just how much she may not have ever known. Her and Zac are thrown together and start spending time together when they both realize they like to just hang out together. And they grow even closer when they find out how similar their childhoods really were.
I absolutely loved this book! There are so many things that spoke to me in it! As the child of parents who divorced when I was young and having my father up and leave, the way Madelyn felt completely hits home!! I completely understood her feelings and her anguish. There were other things that hit home for me as well and the way this author wrote this story was absolutely amazing! These 2 people came together in a time of need, and realized pretty quickly just how much they were coming to mean to each other and just how much they weren't willing to walk away from what they could have. That, to me, is the true testament of love. They were both willing to put everything on the line to be together and to keep each other safe. Loved it from start to finish!!
Zac Hamilton is the Fire Chief of Baytown and is in charge of the Rescue Squad as well. He is also former Navy and a chance meeting with an older Navy veteran changed his life forever. He is stretched thin with all of his duties and add an arsonist to the list and he doesn't have time for love. Not that he wants it anyway because to him love equals pain.
Madelyn Stover left Baytown when she was only 14 and she never looked back. Oh she knew of the Baytown Boys and may have wished for things she couldn't have being that they were seniors and all. Madelyn or Maddie returns to her father's house not haven't seen him or heard from him since she left all those years ago. She needs to sell the house but first she needs to buy him and take care of all of the contents in the house and read the diaries and notebooks he left behind.
She meets Jillian first and well she becomes enveloped by the her over to help and thus including the rest of the group we have come to know as the Baytown Boys. She and Zac hit it off and understand each other as each has lived with disappointment and loss. As their friendship grows she inadvertently gets tangled up in the building case of "The Ghost Arsonist" as the media is calling him. Zac will do everything her can to protect her.
The story was good. It's as if we are visiting old friends and well this was a more serious story. We didn't see a whole lot of the comic duo Aiden and Brogan whose interactions are very funny. The story brings to light a huge problem in this society and we see the aftermath as it has affect Zac and Madelyn in childhood and now as adults. Ms. Jordan has a knack for telling a story with the entire picture. She shows us just how the characters are affected by taking us into the past.
As Maryann Jordan brings us each new love story in Baytown she satisfies the need for you to keep up with all the Baytown Boys lives. She achieves the right balance of mystery, intrigue and romance that keeps you turning the page. And, her charcters are so genuinely likeable they become friends.
When Madelyn Stevens returns home to Baytown to settle her father's estate, she is shocked by what she finds. As she wades through her father's belongings she discovers his journals. Thinking her father had abandoned her once her parents were divorced, Maddie realizes how much her present has been colored by her past. Zac Hamilton, Baytown's Fire Chief, is no stranger to grief. He equates love with pain and loss and therefore keeps his dating life very casual. Zac and Maddie have a lot in common beginning with the fact both of their fathers were alcoholics. What starts out as a "friends with benefits while you're here" relationship quickly turns into something much deeper. Madelyn decides to stay in Baytown permanently and Zac couldn't be happier.
Meanwhile all the local fire and police departments as well as the state police and FBI are trying to find a serial arsonist. Madelyn lost a storage shed at her childhood home to the arsonist and a homeless man lost his life in another arson fire. Without realizing it, Maddie has a clue to the identity of the arsonist but she's grabbed by one of the suspects before she can relay the information. Fortunately she rescued quickly and the suspects are taken into custody. Their identity shocks everyone.
Zac, one of the original Baytown Boys, returned from the Navy to become the Fire Chief of Baytown. Zac is also responsible for the first responders. While he enjoys both jobs, when money becomes available to split the jobs into two separate jobs Zac applies for the First Respinder job. Zac is also one of the last Baytown Boys to find his soulmate, not that he's looking! After losing his mom to cancer as a teen, his dad grieved by drinking and ignoring Zac. The town stepped up to care for Zac, but he didn't exactly have an ideal childhood.
Madelyn has returned to Baytown to bury her father and get his home ready for sell. Madelyn hasn't been in Baytown since her mother packed them up and moved as a result of her dad's alcoholism. Madelyn doesn't know what to expect, but she wasn't prepared to be enveloped into the "fold". The wives and friends of the Baytown Boys gathered around to assist with the funeral and packing up the house. Madelyn also runs into Zac, a guy she was crazy about as a teen....
I truly enjoyed this story. It reminds us that things aren't always as they seem and we shouldn't always believe everything we're told. Time is short and life is a gift. If you don't take chances, you may die with regrets. I thought it extremely sad that Maddie never got yo know her dad as an adult and that they had so many lost years. Zac and Maddie made each other better, complete. I also enjoyed the suspense, twist at the end with the arsonists. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
After his time in the army, Zac has returned to Baytown and is now the fire chief. Maddie has also returned after leaving town when her parents divorced. Now she has to settle her late father's estate and face the memories. There's a serial arsonist in Baytown who keeps Zac on his toes. And he goes into protective mode when Maddie finds herself in danger when a fire breaks out on her property. I loved the author's writing style, the story is told in a light and fluffy way and I was able to immerse myself in the story very quickly. It is told from the point of view of Zac and Maddie and the arsonist also gets a little perspective in between. I found Maddie, who struggles with her self-esteem, likeable and her friends also have their hearts in the right place. Maddie isn't shy, she's hot, but she's also vulnerable. Zac is the typical alpha hero, he is strong and has his heart in the right place. I enjoyed the story. For me, it was the second book in the series, but after reading this book I feel like reading more volumes. The story is entertaining and enjoyable and contains different themes. There is tension, pain and sadness as well as humor and heartbreak. Kale William has done a perfect job of portraying the characters appropriately and bringing the story to life. He has a very pleasant voice, I enjoy listening to him. Kale Williams has a talent for getting the emotions across very well and telling the story in a captivating and entertaining way!
In this one get to know Zac, an original 'Baytown Boy'. He's now the fire chief and as such has more than one responsibility to the town. He also supervises and trains both rescue workers and the volunteer firefighters.
Madelyn never thought she would return to Baytown. Her mother had taken away as a young teen and divorced her father. Only one disappointing meeting between father and daughter had occurred over the years. Now her father has died and named here his heir.
A chance meeting with Jillian and the girls leads to Maddie having support and help where she expected none. The American Legion and the auxiliary step up and help provide a beautiful service for the father she hardly knows. It's then she meets Zac, after he gives a poignant eulogy.
I really loved the build of this relationship, from friends to friends with benefits then an official couple. This book is also much more that just the extremely hot relationship. There is plenty of tension and suspense with a hunt for an arsonist and lots of soul searching for both Zac and Maddie.
I laughed and cried enjoying every interaction, every get together with the other Baytown regulars, and I truly did not figure out the arsonist.
I can't wait for the next book in this series, I think it will be the new addition to Baytown who shows up at the end.
Zac Hamilton, the rugged yet soft-hearted fire chief, is a hero you can’t help but root for. And Maddie? She’s relatable in her struggles, dealing with family baggage and finding herself back in a town she left behind. The chemistry between these two is electric, but what really got me was the community of Baytown—it feels like a character of its own.
Kale Williams, absolutely crushed it. His rich voice, perfect pacing, and ability to bring Zac and Maddie to life deserve a standing ovation. If I could, I’d give him 5 stars on his own!
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely! If you’re into small-town romance with a side of suspense and a group of characters you’d love to hang out with, this one’s for you. Fans of the Baytown Boys series will adore this book, but even if you’re new to the series, Sunset Flames works perfectly as a standalone.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way possible. From heart-stopping moments (thanks to a serial arsonist) to swoon-worthy romance, Sunset Flames delivers it all. Maddie’s journey of healing and Zac’s unwavering dedication are what romance is all about. And Kale Williams’ narration? It feels like you’re sitting in Baytown watching it all unfold.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this latest book in the Baytown Boys series! This is the story of Maddie and Zac. He is one of the original Baytown Boys...now a fire chief for the town. He really loves his job but here lately he is wanting something different. Maddie used to live in Baytown but moved with her mom when her parents divorced. She is now back after her father passes away. She is tasked with the funeral arrangements and getting the estate settled to a man she hasn't seen in a very long time. Zac and Maddie's paths cross and the attraction is immediate on both sides. Both have pasts that are not the greatest so they both mutually agree to enter a friends with benefits relationship so they both don't get hurt. Soon that is not enough for them and they take that leap of faith and work on building a lasting relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. Of course there is twists and turns and action galore. I loved everything about their story and would highly recommend it to everyone. I can't wait for the next book in this series to be here. Another fantastic book by this talented author....well done!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Loved the narration of Kale Williams, who brings the characters, drama, action, heat and ohh the romance to your ears.
After serving in the Navy Zac is the Baytown Fire Chief and Rescue Worker. Maddie has come back to Baytown to bury her alcoholic father's and settle his estate. She is greeted and surround her with compassion by the Baytown women. Even though Maddie spent her first fourteen years in Baytown, she finds the call of the city, is still strong. But before leaving she needs go through her father’s things and finds out things and is surprised to find out not was all as she thought. Both Zac and Madelyn have to come to terms to the memories , self worth that their alcoholic fathers caused. Which has caused them problems in their relationships. While dealing with all of this Zac is also dealing with a serial arsonist. When Madelyn finds herself in danger, Zac knows he must protect the woman he is falling for. Hot alpha hero, with some damage a hot sassy and also hurt heroine. Both with heart and strength. Perfect.

I absolutely loved the latest installment of the Baytown Boys! Sunset Flames is the story of Baytown Boy Zac and Madelyn. Zac came home from the Navy and became the Fire Chief and Madelyn has returned to Baytown after leaving when she was 14. Madelyn has come home to bury her father and to settle his estate. There is an instant connection between the two, but it takes a few meetings to get things going in the right direction. Both go into their romance with a deadline and not wanting a commitment, but of course that eventually gets thrown out the window. Watching their story unwind was awesome; each having their reasons for guarding their hearts! I loved how Zac and Madelyn had similar family issues and my heart strings were tugged when each told their story. Once again, Maryann has given us romance, drama, and a little bit of mystery thrown into an amazing story. I can't wait to see whose story is next in the Baytown Boys series. I received an authors copy and I have left an honest review.
Absolutely amazing this book gripped me from the beginning and kept me captivated through the whole story. Maryann has definitely written a heart touching soul searing book again. The storyline was full of twists and turns and you never New where it was going to take you. I loved revisiting past couples and reading about new members of the Baytown family.
Zac and Madelyn both have a heartbreaking beautiful story to tell and they were absolutely beautiful souls to read about, at moments it was quiet heartwrenching their pasts and what they went through before they got where they now are. This story was extraordinarily well written and flowed from page to page and was so easy to emerse yourselves into these people's lives.
I absolutely adore this author and her style of writing and would recommend this book to anyone who love an epic love between two very beautiful souls and I adored reading about this couple and the beauty they made out of such tragic beginnings. I honestly hope if you read this book you will love it as much as I have.
Maddie was only going to be in Baytown long enough to bury her dad and sell the house. She figured week tops and she would be gone. Then she sees the contents of the house and meets with the funeral director and is overwhelmed. She meets Jillian and soon he American Legion and Auxiliary are helping with everything. Zac had talked with her dad about the Navy a couple times so he gave a eulogy. He takes liking to Maddie but a real relationship scares him. Besides, he is trying to find the arsonist before someone gets hurt. Maddie finds her dad's journals and discovers that what she knew and what her mom told her wasn't completely the truth. When the arsonist burns down her shed in the middle of the night and she sees them, she is threatened to keep quiet even though she can't identify them. Will Zac be able to keep her safe or will she just go back home? How much longer before they catch the arsonist? Everyone is surprised at who the arsonist is because it's not anyone in the groups they were investigating.
I have read all of Ms. Jordan's books and I love the small-town feel of the Baytown Boys. There is always a little bit of intrigue, but a whole lot of love. This town has watched the Baytown boys grow up and go into the service and almost all of them are back in town finding the loves of their lives.
Zac and Madelyn's story is a good one. Madelyn had lived in Baytown until she was 14 years old when her mother moved her away from her alcoholic father. Now she is back dealing with the estate of her estranged father and falling in love with Zac. Zac comes from a similar background. Both Madelyn and Zac are afraid of love and commitment because of choices that their parents made. When they finally are able to see past their fear, they realize they are meant to be.
It was great to see the whole town unite to find the arsonists and to welcome Madelyn back to Baytown. It was another good read in this series.
When her estranged father passes away Maddie returns to Baytown to finalize his estate. She only planned on being there for one week but between the way the town welcomed her, the unexpected relationship that is developing with Zac and family secrets it has become a place she does not want to leave.
Zac has a demanding career as the fire chief and due to their Navy backgrounds knew her father. When he sees Maddie, he is drawn to her in a way he had not expected so when she finds herself in danger, he is determined to protect her.
The pasts of Zac and Maddie are similar which allows them to support each other as they try to make peace with their family situations. The other characters that we have come to know and love in this series are also there to provide guidance and friendship along the way. The narrator does a great job with both character which makes them easily distinguishable, and the pacing could not be better.
This is the seventh book in the Baytown Boys series. The series features various guys who went off to serve in the military and have returned home to the sleep seaside town of Baytown. This book features Zac who is the fire chief and Maddie a newcomer, although she lived in Baytown before her parents divorced. . She's in town settling her estranged fathers estate and meets Zac when she has a fire at her home. Lots of danger and suspense as they encounter an arsonist. The drama continues and their relationship heats up. Well written with cute characters who are all friends. It is not necessary to have read the other books to keep up but it helps to know the backstory of the other characters. No shortage of chemistry or drama with life in Baytown and as their adventure continues. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
I am such a fan of Maryann Jordan's book and this is one of my favorites!! I loved Zac and Madelyn's story. I also enjoying catching up on the rest of the Baytown Boys in every new book. The suspense as always is a plus for her books. I alwasys feel like I am on the edge of my seat waiting to figure out who did what!! Their love story was great very sweet and hot!! I loved Zac as a character very strong and protective, honorable and hard working. The American Legion and the Auxillary and what they do in the community was a starong peice of the strry which I loved. Madelyn was a grerat charactere as well, she was easy to like and it was fun to watch them fall for each other. If you like her books you will love this one! It is a fun series and I swear each one is even better than the last! Enjoy!!!
This audiobook is easy to listen to. Beyond the romance developing between the two protagonists, the elements of American small town living, family and community are central to the series and a big part of this story.
The Baytown community is tightknit with a heavy emphasis on supporting each other and the quintessential American way of life. Zack and Maddie meet when Maddie returns to Baytown to bury her father and tie up his life there. Of course that is only where things start as the whole community gather around this almost stranger to support her through her experience. Throw in a whole lot of fire and the story really heats up. Things are definitely not what they seem.
Overall this is an easy book to listen to. I am looking forward to reading/listening to the rest of the series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Having been away from Baytown as long as she’d lived there, counselor Madelyn ‘Maddie’ Stover’s emotional soup when she gets so much support from people she barely or never knew when her dad dies. Neither Maddie nor her contemporaries knew her dad well but Fire chief Zac Hamilton knew him from Legion meetings and volunteers to eulogize him as they’d talked a bit. Maddie can’t reconcile her feelings as she discovers, through them, the dad she never knew.
Originally Madie thought she’d be done with everything related to her dad in a week but his home was full of antiques and old furniture, she decided she needed more time. Especially after Zac was willing to spend his time off the clock with her, which was rare because of the recent rash of arson related fires. Things get really personal when the arsonist visits Maddie’s family home while she’s in it! Rating: 4.25stars
Sunset Flames is part of the Baytown Boys series and although it can be read as a standalone, you do get updated on many of the other characters from previous Baytown Boys books.
The storyline and tone was a little bit different from other stories in this series with a friends-with-benefits start to Zac and Maddie’s relationship.
“We’re both mature, consenting adults who decided that we liked each other and there was no reason not to enjoy each other’s company, in every sense of the word, while I was in town.”
What was not different is Sunset Flames still gives us an emotional story, flawed Hero and heroine who grow throughout the story, and bit of suspense to keep the pages turning! -4.5 Stars!-
If you're familiar with this author's books, then you know that this one will not deviate from the rest. It's kind of like a safe read. Nothing outrageous, no crazy plot twists. Lots of repetition, not the best editing, lukewarm intimate scenes. This is the epitome of a "basic" book.
What keeps me from giving it a higher rating is the POV. As in, there are too many and you never know where one ends and the other begins. Sometimes you're half way through a paragraph before you finally get whose POV it is, only to go through the same confusion in the next paragraph.
All things considered, it was nice, safe, basic, not really a book that leaves you in any kind of hangover at all.
Sunset Flames was exactly what I expected it to be, a quick romance with a little bit of suspense thrown in. It was an easy, enjoyable read. This was Zac and Madelyn’s story.
Zac is one of the boys who grew up in Baytown. After serving in the Navy, he’s now back and is the town’s Fire Chief.
Madelyn is back in Baytown after her estranged father’s death. While going through her father’s things, she’s now questioning her not only her parents relationship, but also her parents involvement in her life.
After a fire on Madelyn’s property, she meets Zac. What starts out as a friendship quickly turns into a friend’s with benefits deal.
Again, this was a quick romance in terms of how fast paced it seemed. There’s a bit of suspense throughout the book as well but again it’s pretty light and fast paced. This was an enjoyable read. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
