《心理与力学》一书，开始于民国九年，历时十八年写成，而此书渊源于厚黑学。李宗吾研究厚黑学，始于满清末年，可说此书之成，经过30年之久。记得唐朝贾岛做了两句诗，“独行潭底影，数息树边身。”李宗吾批道：“二句三年得，一吟双泪流。”他自己也认为，发表此书，真有他那种感想。
