A study of the religious role of women from the Old Testament through the New Testament periods. Emphasis is placed on both the privilege and the limitations of women's ministry in the early church.
Dr. Varner presents a thorough look at all of the passages in the Bible that relate to a women's role in serving, including as widows and homemakers. The book is momentarily dry when it opens, as he discusses life as a Jewess prior to Paul's teaching on women. However, the discussion does provide a backdrop for why Paul takes certain occasions to address the topic. There are some topics that are a bit "heady" and require more than a skim in the reading, but overall the book is valuable, and is a resource for further/future discussion.
