Hope For All: Ten Reasons God's Love Prevails

Rate this book
What happens after we die? Most people hope they'll go to Heaven—especially if they fear another place called “hell.” Horrifying things have been said about God’s judgment—the most terrifying is that its sorrows never end. But what if divine judgment has been gravely misunderstood? What if it has a purifying nature which transforms our heart? This book explores ten key Bible truths that support this hope. Is this too good to be true? Examine the evidence for yourself. You just might find that God is a loving Father—one who never gives up on any of His children.

The problem of interpretation.

Personally, I HOPE the understanding of hell as purifying is true, but with so many Bible scholars and theologians contesting this view, along with the fact that the Scriptures have been interpreted so many ways, the use of many supporting verses without the consideration of other ones that would show a contrasting point along with them is a clear sign of bias. While I'm also biased with the author toward these conclusions, I have to step back and ponder the fact that this is a minority view, and allow God to be the final Judge of my life and place in the next life. Put simply, he overstates his case. I wish the matter was this clear.

Great book

I read his first one several years ago. This one encourages me even more. I used to go to a couple of churches and quit going because of so many confusing beliefs each one had: one telling me that I would go to hell if I left. Thus books has helped me realize that God loves everyone, no matter where they are in their faith. Gerry has so many footnotes to back up all that he says. Although I didn't go through all of them, I can go back and used them for reference.

Life changing in every way. A must read. As someone who grew up in a family burdened by a very deep fear of hell, I've seen first hand the detrimental damage that a belief in actual, physical, painful, eternal suffering and damnation can cause. This book brought hope. Deep, rich, soul healing hope. And it has brought me full circle from fearing and hating God, to loving him again, and feeling loved by him, with no backhanded, eternal punishment looming in the shadows.

Very encouraging and uplifting picture of God and salvation. Loved his initial section on “anchors of hope.” His final section addressing questions and critiques to his view are brief, inadequate, and at times misleading. All in all this is an easy read to introduce someone to another perspective related to God’s plan for his creation. This is not a scholarly work (it doesn’t claim to be). This book is an introduction. Other resources are necessary to get a better explanation and defense of the doctrine of Universal reconciliation.
