Fierce. Protective…and Broken. Tortured by a past that torments my mind. My demons swinging from the ceilings.
I was her dark, mysterious savior. Defenseless. Her fate in my hands. I saved her. Claimed her. Owned her. And she is a godsend. Teasing lips. Curves to die for. Everything I need… everything I want… and then some. Obsession? No doubt.
Our perfect little universe seemed all too perfect. And I was right… Taken. That f*cker. Back from the dead and ready to kill. An empty shell of a man out for the ultimate revenge. I’ll track down that animal. He’s taken his shot. But I’ve cheated death before.
The only question, when I fire back, who’ll get shot down?
>Book Review – Scarred: A Mountain Man Romance >This book is a standalone romantic suspense with an HEA. Jasper prefers to live in the mountains, away from the world. He walks away from his high profile, high paying job to live a simple life. He suffers from survivor’s guilt as a Navy SEAL as well. Mandy is a police detective with an abusive ex. She sets herself up as a target when she involves herself in an investigation into her ex’s shady family. >The plot in this story is a good one. Mandy runs into Jasper, who saves her life and they fall for each other. Both characters are good people and the dog, Wolf is super cute. There were 2 issues with the story, one with spelling and editing and one with plot holes. >The editing issues caused a lot of confusion. ‘Her’ was used instead of ‘here’, ‘girlfriend’ was used when Mandy was speaking of Jasper (boyfriend). When reading this story, the reader had to decifer what the author meant, which really took the reader out of the story. >There were a few plot holes that needed clarification in order to make sense. Mandy’s ex, Keith, was subdued and unconscious, yet manages to escape. Wolf, a pit bull used in dog fighting, bites Keith in the neck, but in the next scene, the dog is gone and Keith is still a threat. Jasper is described by his buddy as the best tracker in their unit, yet he is later described as having a terrible sense of direction and cannot find his way out of the hospital. This next plot hole is the hardest to ignore. When Jasper is trying to save Mandy and finds a secret tunnel, he finds his way outside, manages to go home and send a carrier pigeon with a message for his buddy. He goes back to save Mandy without any weapons. He also never had any carrier pigeons, so where did they come from? >I am a reviewer for Romance Author’s that Rock. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. The character development is good, the plot, while generally interesting, needs some work in order to make sense. I am giving this book 3 stars.
This story had great potential but fell somewhat short on the development of the characters. I would have liked more depth. Having said that, it was still enjoyable!
Loved Jasper and Mandy's story . Jasper a wounded Navy Seal living in the woods in isolation I have no clue why I'm so stuck on books like this the wounded hero living in isolation but i love it. So Jasper it's just him and the woods until him and his dog Wolfe stumbled on Mandy while she was camping. He offered her help, she was offended and sort of blew him off. They kept running into each other. Mandy was also running from something. She had just been suspended from her police detective job after investigating her ex boyfriends family.
A case she was pulled off of. Her ex was not the man she though he was. In their whole entire relationship he never even slept with her sort of weird right. So now Mandy is in the woods by herself and she runs into some trouble and Jasper and playful Wolfe rescue her. This is the start of their relationship and things progress fast after this. Their is also some danger and Jasper will protect Mandy with his life. This is a good story my very first time reading this author. There were a few typos but that did not take away from this story. It is a definite must read.
I received an ARC for my honest review. This is the first time reading this author and I have to say that there was really never a dull moment. The information given during the story was important later in the book. Jasper was a strong alpha character, navy seal with some horrible baggage his was trying to cope with. Not to mention a millionaire that just wanted to be left alone in his cottage in the woods. There he meets Mandy, a city detective who got to caught up in a case against her abusive ex and his family. She wanted to get away from the city. what she wasn't planning on was almost dying in a snow storm. Rescued by Jasper and his dog Wolf (who has a great storyline) their relationship begins. A lot of action, life and death, love and sex, and coming to terms with theirs pasts and planning their future. The only flaw was I expected Mandy to be a bit stronger character since she was a detective, but I guess you never know how you will act in any given situation.
Scarred: A Mountain Man Romance by J.R. Ryder Mandy is working on the Hitchcock case, but she was told to leave the case alone because her ex-boyfriend is part of the Hitchcock family. There are girls missing from around the county and she thinks the Hitchcock has something to do with it. She just can’t leave it alone Keith her ex was so nice at first and then he became a monster. They finally tell her to take a few days off so she heads to the mountains to rest, relax, and clear her head. She is resting on a rock when a big dog comes running straight for her and jumps at her just so happy to lick her. Behind the dog comes a handsome navy seal man Jasper. This is one great story with plenty of twist and turns. It keeps you interested until the end. I had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book, it is in my top twenty and I would give it a ten-star rating if I could. I received an ARC and have voluntarily left a review.
Hunky billionaire ex-navy seal and a damsel in distress make for one action packed romantic adventure. Jasper and Mandy come together during a snowstorm and develop feelings for one another. Sinister people with horrible secrets are lurking in the background that will entangled Jasper and Mandy into serious perils. I really loved that Jasper adopted an older dog, Wolf. His antics added a bit of humor to this story. I am curious about Andy and would like to see him have his own story. Lots of hot and steam between the sheets between Jasper and Mandy ending with a HEA. Although there may be some typos or grammatical errors, I never consider that in a review. I like to base it on the content of the book and how well it engages me which J.R. Ryder did with this one. Don’t pass this book up. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
The plot of this story was very good. Mandy, a police detective working on a case she was ordered to leave alone, begins to feel paranoid someone is watching her. To calm herself, she decides to do a little camping in the area not far from her home.
She meets Jasper who has moved to the woods to get away from the hectic lifestyle ho once lived.
Mandy gets herself in a situation and Jasper rescues her.
They begin to get close. Her ex shows up with some crazy ideas and goes after them both. There’s more, but you get the idea.
Ok, so this sounds like it would be good. It was just ok. For me, the dialogue wasn’t good. It didn’t flow, making the scenes with dialogue overly involved with minute details that didn’t add anything to the story.
Also, a good proofreader was needed.
It had great potential, but didn’t quite meet its mark in terms of flow. However, the plot is good.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. What a fantastic book! There was a lot of excitement and intrigue to keep me hooked up until the very end! Jasper might hide out in the woods, but he seems like a genuine nice person trying to survive all the trials he went through. Mandy has been through a more recent trauma in her life. One that almost destroys the love she found in the most unlikely place. Wolf obviously knows something they don't and I am overjoyed with his interference! It is a great book of two people that love each other enough that they will sacrifice their own life for the other. Even if they don't remember what happened before it was almost too late. I really enjoyed reading this book and would happily recommend it to others!
A good depiction of a SEAL living in the mountains to reduce stress stress from the city but finds his skills put to the test anyway. Jacob runs across Mandy a city cop camping in the woods but injured as a result of a fall and hypothermic. Unfortunately she comes with baggage due to her ex boyfriend being part of a crime family. There are trust issues, amnesia. And other variables that go into this plot line to keep the story humming along. Oh and steamy scenes as well. Seams like everyone gets hurt, everyone recovers, and everyone has a HEA. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. (Note: I was provided an Advanced Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
I received this book from book funnel with the understand I would give an honest review when finished.
Mandy is a detective working on a case she has been pulled from, trying to find answers to questions left open about her ex's family. She knows she could lose her job if she's caught, but she just can't leave this go. Jasper finds the city overwhelming and just want the solitude after his stint at being a Navy Seal. Although he's lonely and has adopted this large lovable dog for companionship, he can't help but feel the hole in his life.
J. R. Ryder has brought these 2 emotional characters to life through a story that will keep you captivated to the end. Definitely a keeper.
Mandy is a detective, she can't stop herself from looking into her exe's family. She knows if she just digs a little deeper........... Unfortunately after an incident at work she's suspended. Mandy decides to go off into the woods camping for a few days. Jasper is an Ex Navy Seal. After leaving the corporate world for a cottage in the woods. After bumping into Mandy while walking his dog, she is quite abrupt and he leaves her alone. Then the storm hits.......................
Awesome Read! Mandy is a detective, but with an ex that has made her question herself in so many ways. Jasper was a Navy Seal and a CEO that just wanted to forget his past. The first time Jasper sees Mandy, he can't seem to get her off his mind even though Mandy had pushed him away and wanted nothing to do with him. When Jasper saves Mandy from freezing to death, thanks to his dog, Wolf, and getting stranded at his cabin in the woods due to a snow storm, things change. The suspense and romance in this story will keep you hooked. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Good read ... except Ms. Ryder needs a good editor. There are wording mistakes, details about the characters get muddled, typos and poor sentence construction. The editing issues are jarring when they occur but didn't take away from my over all enjoyment of the story, but the book would have been a much more enjoyable, not to mention smooth, read with those problems corrected. I was given an ARC copy for an honest review. The plot was believable, the characters fleshed out enough for the length of the story and you gotta love the Wolf.
The author setup a great storyline for the characters, but the title isn't in sync with what I thought Jasper's character was about. Alot didn't add up about Jasper and Andy and the telling of that story, but for to move on Jasper found Mandy who needs a fresh start. The antagonist wasn't the focal point, but was in the right position in the story to set off a second chain of events that lead to another level of trials. I'm glad the story elevated into some important factors, and that in the conclusion the couple came full circle.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest review of an ARC copy of this book wow this is one hot book that once you pick it up and start reading it you will not be able to put it down again it is that good I absolutely loved it and if anyone is looking for a wonderful read then I highly recommend this book be on your list you will not be disappointed I wasn't I loved it
This is a story about a mountain man and a detective. He comes across her camping out and saves her. She has issues because of an ex boyfriend. He is looking for solitude and peace from nightmares of his past. Will they be able to overcome their pasts to find a future together?
I received an arc and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first time reading J. R Ryder and I absolutely loved it. A truly enjoyable book. It was sweet and sad, and at the same time full of humor, suspense and drama with enough twists and turns to keep me reading and wanting to know what came next. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy
I’ve never read anything by this author before and I really liked the sound of this book from the blurb which is why I decided to give this book ago. Was a great book to read and I did enjoy the story/storyline. The characters was great too and their interactions and chemistry was also good. I would recommend this book and will keep a look out for future books.
This was a little disappointing it could have been a really intriguing story but it just failed to fulfill its potential. It ended up being quite an ordinary romantic tale with a few less ordinary bits in the mix, there were also a few confusing issues in there. All in all a disappointing less than stimulating read.
I really liked this story because there was more to just being lost in the woods and finding an ex-seal being a recluse. The extra twists and turns made it more exciting! I like JRR's writing style and dual pov. Jasper and Mandy were a fun, sexy couple! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This is the first time I have read a book from this author and look forward to reading more. There is lots of twists and turns to make you want to keep reading and not stop until you have finished the book.
First book I've read from this author and it was good. I loved the entwined stories. The female character was not my favorite. It was still a great book and I loved the bonus stories at the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Hokey but I read on. Hokey, have read better but have read worse. Hokey but it met so many of my fantasy triggers. With that being said, I am going to try a couple more books by J.R. Ryder.
Don't expect too much and perhaps you will enjoy as well. (Hell yeah sex).
I loved Jasper and Mandy's story. The storyline is great and keeps you on the edge of your seat till the end. Both parties are both strong and broken in their own way. And when they get together they seem to fit together perfectly . They make each other stronger.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different from others I've read. My only complaint was that it was too short. Lol. I'm voluntarily leaving a review for a copy of the book.
