Re-Created is a poetic walk through the Gospel of John. Each chapter of John has at least one poem to inspire the reader to engage more deeply with the story of Jesus. Throughout much of the poetry are sketches and artwork that are original to the author. This work was written alongside an open Bible. It is intended to be enjoyed the same way. The poems are intended to be read along with the Scripture and to inspire the reader to think deeply about the Biblical text. At the end, the author has included some notes on each poem that may prove helpful in interpretation.
This book was a very sweet gift given to me by some dear church members. They bought it cause it reminded them of me. I doodle a lot and write articles based on sermons I've heard. It was a very sweet gift.
The book itself was unique and interesting, combining poetry and doodles for each chapter in John. The only reason I didn't give it more stars is that I found the poems simplistic and uninspiring. Writing deep and moving poetry is challenging. I know. I've tried. My poems would be no better than this dear man's poetry, and probably worse, it's why I write novels and not poems. I thought they did get better as he went, and enjoyed the more prosy sections more than the poetry ones.
I'm thankful for the gift and the opportunity to read this man's creative work.
While not everyone would be able to appreciate artistic endeavors such as Re-Created, I believe that books like this are edifying and enjoying even for those who struggle to enjoy poetry and art.
The poems in this book were expressive and abstract, not necessarily the style that I write, but I was able to appreciate and learn from all of them.
Since I know the author personally, I enjoyed reading this considerably. The poems all reflected John’s personality, while sticking to the scripture, even though he acknowledged that some of the specific details were his creative imaginings.
Overall, this book proclaimed the gospel in a compelling, truthful way. Knowing John, he would find a way to share this book with you if you are interested.
