A Tracker's Tale

Rate this book
Welcome to the strange and perilous world of Katherine Colebrook: FBI special agent, Los Angeles… Trackers Division.

In Katherine’s world, werewolves, vampires, púcas, and other parasapien species – forced for centuries by human fear and prejudice to live at the fringes of society – have finally come out of hiding to demand their rightful place alongside us. It’s a fragile co-existence, fraught with mutual distrust: a new social contract for which the rules are still evolving. And when those rules break down – usually when a parasapien begins preying on humans – that’s when the Trackers step in. It’s their job to hunt them down and stop them by any means necessary.

Within this elite unit, Katherine Colebrook is one of the best. Her psychic abilities made her a natural for the Trackers Division, allowing her to move between the parasapien and human worlds in ways that no other agent could. But Katherine’s calling hasn’t come without struggle and losses along the way. As a single mother, she must contend with her teenage daughter, Alexandra, who not only shares Katherine’s psychic abilities, but seems determined to follow the same dangerous path as her mother.

And so, when Katherine’s latest assignment threatens to bring that danger too close home, she finds herself faced with the toughest challenge of her career: Can she protect her daughter’s life, while battling a ruthless adversary who’ll stop at nothing to destroy her?

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy.

A TRACKER'S TALE is pure urban fantasy that reads like an intriguing "day in the life" (okay, several days) of a paranormal tracker/investigator. I really enjoyed the flow of the story and while there was an overall murder plot there were little side investigations that helped with the world building and fleshed out just who all of these characters were. A couple of these investigations and plots involved vampire politics and the typical vampire drama, puca civil rights issues, and a werewolf murder investigation. One would think this would make for too much story but it works well as the bigger investigation slowly pieces itself together neatly around these short "side quests".

Since we are so involved in Katherine's day-to-day life we get a very intimate look at how her personal life is and how she thinks which helped to really understand who she is and why she does things. I liked the way in which her psychic powers are used and visualized using italics. Granted it took me a bit to long to figure out why the text was italics sometimes as I started reading this book. I enjoyed having a character who is a mom and seeing the mother-daughter dynamic was a fun, unique experience for me. I loved how strong, independent, and fiercely protective Katherine is of those she loves and the innocent.

A TRACKER'S TALE is filled with suspense, mystery, and danger wrapped up in a fantastical paranormal world. There were some loose ends and intriguing hints at other dangers for Katherine and her family/friends. This is a really great start to a series as it instantly pulls you into the world and leaves enough hints of potential stories to fill more books.

A Tracker’s Tale – Karen Avizur (Book 1 of The Tracker Series

I was kindly given a copy of this book by the author so I could provide an honest review.

“A Tracker’s Tale” is the debut novel of Karen Avizur. It is a supernatural fantasy story that has a crime thriller trust, much like that of the TV series Sleepy Hollow.

Imagine you are an FBI agent, known as a Tracker, who specialises in tracking down various supernatural beings also known as parasapiens, beings such as vampires, werewolves and pucas.

That is Katherine’s life, but that isn’t the only thing that is different about her, Katherine is also a psychic. She can read minds and sense people’s feelings which in turn can allow her to sense where people are.

Katherine also has a teenage daughter, Alexandra, who is a psychic just like her mother. But unlike Katherine, Alexandra does her best to hide who and what she really is.

Just as they are trying to start a new life in LA and began settling into their new surroundings, their lives have suddenly become a lot more complicated.

Rebecca is a young psychic who is autistic, her older brother has just been murdered trying to protect her. As if things couldn’t get any worse for young Rebecca, a vampire is on the hunt for her.

Katherine takes her in and using her abilities as a psychic and a tracker, does her best to look after Rebecca. Which is easier said than done, especially when the person you are protecting is hiding something from you, hiding who they really are.

Can Katherine keep her safe or will she be unable to stop what is coming …?

“A Tracker’s Tale” is a refreshing tale about the supernatural world in a modern setting. This story is an enjoyable read that had the quirkiness much like that of one of my favourite TV shows, “Sleep Hollow”.

After reading this I am left curious as to what is in store now for Katherine and Alexandra and who is Rebecca really.

I was not quite sure what I was getting when I started this book but the story became more addicting as I went along and before you knew it it was "Dirty Harriet" who goes by the name Katherine Colebrook in this story :)

Katherine is basically a cop with almost a James Bond license to kill the paranormal she runs into in the pursuit of justice. Throw in a daughter who is awesome but still a teenager who knows more than her Mom in her mind and another border/daughter/autistic female it makes her into a combo of Superwoman and Mom of the Year and I loved it.

There were a multitude of things I enjoyed about this story but one of the best things that is in almost every paranormal story I ever read is the "big bad and powerful" bad guy, so far she did not have to deal with that but in this "day in the life" of a tracker (which was actually several days) you get to know her intimately and her family which I am sure was the intent. I think from the last few pages that the requisite "big bad and powerful" bad guy will be showing up but the bad guys in this story basically had no clue what they were getting into messing with our heroine (much to their dismay).

Bottom line: This is a story that is violent and heartwarming at the same time (hard to pull off) and keep the reader involved at all times but some may need to know that there is no romance here, this is pure Urban Fantasy and while I am sure there is some plan for a romantic interest in the future it would have been distracting from this story. 4 Stars instead of 5 mainly because a few of the POV/scene shifts were a bit chaotic and too a minute to stop and see where I was and who was talking. Might be minor stuff but I save those 5 Stars for near perfect novels :) I will say I am 100% looking forward to the next book.

Generally enjoyable, if a little unfocused. I liked this. I appreciated the older heroine, the platonic male/female friendship, the bit of diversity in the cast, and the familial relationship. The writing was readable, though the editing could have done with another pass. I only had two real issues with it were. One, Katherine was a little too trigger happy and remorseless after killing. Two, the book is basically just a few weeks in the life of the main character and the random cases that come her way. That meant that it didn't feel real cohesive and new characters were being introduced (and old ones disappearing) right up to the last page. Having said that, I'd happily read more of the series.

Katherine Colebrook, a psychic who is highly skilled and trained in martial arts, works in Southern California as a Tracker for the FBI with her focus on ferreting out dangerous mythological creatures such as werewolves, vampires, and pucas. Katherine is drawn into exceptional circumstances that call upon her paranormal abilities and expertise as an agent in order to keep the upper hand when it comes to dealing with supernatural beings. The story includes cases, such as testifying in a werewolf court case, protecting an autistic psychic teenager, hunting down a rogue wolf pup, and dealing with vampires who have nefarious intentions. While Katherine is busy with cases, she is also going through some disagreements with Alexandra, her sixteen-year-old daughter, who is not afraid to put her life in danger if it means saving others.

Karen Avizur has penned a great debut to a new series that is a mix of paranormal, fantasy, and thriller that is a compelling page-turner. Readers get to see different characters’ perspectives into the why and how of their reactions and behaviors to the challenging circumstances in which they find themselves. The interactions, whether it be in dialogue or physical battle, between characters is believable and pulls readers into scenes. The details about these fearful and powerful mythological creatures give readers a vivid picture in their minds as to the danger of interacting with them and the violence of which they are capable. Tension runs high throughout the story, and readers are kept on the edge of their seats as to the outcome for characters who put themselves into dangerous and life-threatening situations. A Tracker’s Tale grips readers from start to finish and provides intrigue that leaves them awaiting the next book in the series.

A great beginning to what I hope will be a continuing series since I believe it will be addicting. Although we are dealing with the paranormal, the main characters are real and well developed. Katherine Colbrooke is a mom of a bright teenage daughter who like her mom has psychic abilities. But Katherine works in a special section of the FBI were she is tasked with tracking down rogue parasapiens who do no obey the rules of coexistance with the human world. She is the best at her job which puts this mother at odds with her teenage daugter who wants to be just like her mom. When a young autistic girl's brother is killed trying to protect his sister, Katherine takes her in to protect her and find a killer. But the girl seems to be holding something back that may play a part in why someone wants her bad enough to kill her brother. With lots of intrigue, secrets and a roller coaster ride of a page turner, we are treated to a strong likeable character in Katherine and I look forward to reading more and learning about the secrets the young autisitc girl is keeping. I also like Katherine's daughter, Alexandra. She is smart, witty and a pig-headed teenager although loveable! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Katherine is a tracker. She works for the FBI tracking down rogue vampires, shifters, and the like. She is unique in that she uses her gift of sight to aid in her work. She’s not opposed to getting things done off the books, and that makes her one of the best trackers around. After her recent move, things get hectic. She also has to choose a partner in training, something she’s been putting off. We follow her through motherhood, tracking, and more in this exciting read.

Katherine is the heroine we’ve all been looking for. She’s good at her job, she’s incredibly well-rounded, and she’s trained her daughter to defend herself. The fact that she’s willing to go off paper to get things done is what makes her so likable. She will protect her family and loved ones at all costs, even if it means doing things by less than legal means. Avizur has done a spectacular job with a unique storyline and spin on the supernatural. The characters are excellent. There are so many elements involved in this one. You've got mystery, suspense, and urban fantasy, all at a thrilling pace. This was such a super fun read. I was hooked from the very start and I cannot wait to continue on with this series.

I wanted to love this book. It has a great premise. The action scenes seemed to be well done, and her take on the paranormal/urban fantasy was interesting.

Unfortunately, there isn't a plot. I expected a single case mystery involving the FMC in her role as an FBI Tracker. Instead, this is a series of vignettes in the lives of the FMC, her daughter, and a local gangster. Each one was the resolution to a crisis, portraying the FMC and her 16-year-old daughter as superheroes. Each villain they go after is too easily tracked down and vanquished.

There were a fair number of typos and things that really baffled me. The most glaring was the fact that all of the action took place in coastal cities/towns in California, but the FMC made multiple references to needing to speak with people "out west." Every time, it yanked me out of the story, wondering if she was referring to someone in Hawai'i or an unmentioned undersea nation of merpeople.

I really wanted to know what happened with the court case that was the opening scene, but other than a single scene later on that was strictly there to give readers some of the FMC's backstory, we get no resolution there.

ATracker’s Tale is a Magical fantasy story about Katherine, a psychic/FBI agent who works with trackers moving between the parasapiens and humans. Since she has psychic ability, Katherine is an asset. As a single mom, she is determined and strong. Her daughter, Alexander, is the same as well, but things don’t work out as Katherine wants, and hard decisions have to be made when her daughter is kidnapped.

The world is filled with vampires, púcas, werewolves, and species that are forcibly put to live in harmony. The fear and force implemented by humans cannot keep these beings from claiming their rightful demand, which is to be equal alongside humans. Therefore, the understanding between them isn’t working.
The literature was written well. The pace was fast, and the world was enticing. The author did a good job keeping the reader intrigued. The dynamic between the characters really stood out. This is book one of the series, and so there is more to come. The foundation for a continual storyline was definitely there.
I enjoyed the bond between Katherine and her daughter. The content had elements of humor, politics, crime, thrill, and paranormal scenes.

With the proliferation of vampire/werewolf/whatever novels over the past decade-plus, you need some serious confidence to throw your hat in that ring. A writer needs to differentiate themselves from everything else out there, whether through world-building or a clever hook, and they need to do it without looking like they’re trying too hard.

In A Tracker’s Tale, author Karen Avizur does it the old-fashioned way, with a unique and interesting character. A Tracker’s Tale lets you know right out of the gate that supernatural creatures exist and openly (kind of) live amongst us regular humans. Aside from calling them parasapiens, the author spends little time telling the reader what these creatures are all about; she assumes you know (and by this point in your life, shouldn’t you?). No, this story is all about our new heroine, Katherine Colebrook: what is her life like in this alternate reality? What makes her tick?

Katherine recently moved to Los Angeles with her teenage daughter, Alexandra, where they try to adjust to life in a new city. Katherine works for the FBI as a Tracker. She has strong psychic abilities, which attunes her to the parasapien world. Oh, and she knows a few spells, too. Alexandra has inherited her mother’s abilities, which sets her apart at school, so she spends much of her time alone at the library.

That’s about all you need to know. There's no larger plot here, it's more of an “a day in the life” kind of tale – though it spans more than a day. In A Tracker’s Tale, Katherine will have several cases that take her to different domains in the parasapien world. Some of these stand alone, but several link together to build a base that ultimately sets up possible storylines for future installments. Yet the author aptly weaves each storyline together as if it is one longer tale. It works well. I found I wasn’t concerned about an overarching plot, which is really unlike me.

Here’s why it worked for me:

1. Katherine is a well-drawn character; it’s easy to get swept up in her goings-on. However, I think the author only touched the surface. That’s okay, because it should leave plenty of dramatic possibilities down the road. She’s the kind of character you could build a series around.

2. The psychic ability Katherine displays, and how she uses it, is smartly done. The way the author presents the visions and psychic interactions draws you in. These are easily the best parts of the story because they are loaded with raw emotions, purpose, and revelations. You learn as much about a secondary character through the psychic insight as you do through standard physical descriptions and obligatory dialogue, which makes them seem even more unique.

There are few curiosities. Katherine appears to have an unchecked license to kill from the FBI and she’s quick to use it. She’s also never really tested to her limits. One stretch near the end almost goes there, but she’s able to knife through it pretty cleanly. Alexandra is a strong-willed teenager, but she’s missing a some of the peripherals that go with been an out-of-place teen. Some of her actions almost stretch believability too far.

It’s an introductory tale, though, and these points didn’t change my enjoyment of the story. If the author builds on what they delivered here, the series will be worth reading.

In A Tracker’s Tale, Karen Avizur introduces readers to Katherine Colebrook, an FBI agent working in the elite Trackers Division — a unit specializing in paranormal crimes. Katherine isn’t your average agent; she possesses psychic abilities that make her uniquely suited to track down parasapien criminals and assist law enforcement in navigating supernatural threats.

As a single mother raising a teenage daughter who shares her psychic gift, Katherine’s life is already complex. But things take a darker turn when she receives a call about a troubled young girl recently admitted to a psychiatric facility. The girl, traumatized by the loss of her brother to a sinister figure still at large, forms a bond with Katherine — one that pulls the agent deeper into a dangerous mystery.

With threats mounting and secrets unraveling, Katherine must use every skill she has to protect the girl — and herself — from forces that won’t stay hidden for long. But with the girl’s abilities attracting unwanted attention, one thing becomes clear: this won’t be the last time she’s in danger.

A Tracker’s Tale is the first installment in the Tracker series and serves as a strong introduction to the life of Katherine Colebrook and the supporting characters who shape her world. Avizur demonstrates real strength in character development — the cast is relatable, dynamic, and emotionally complex. Each character brings a sense of humanity and vulnerability that helps ground the fast-paced, supernatural storyline.

The pacing of the novel is quick, driven by an action-packed plot that maintains momentum from beginning to end. While this makes for an engaging and accessible read, it occasionally leaves little room for deeper exploration into world-building. I found myself wondering how Katherine was able to implement her plan with Rebecca so seamlessly, or what the formal procedures were for initiating investigations — particularly given the number of unexplained or collateral deaths that occur throughout the story. These procedural gaps impacted the story’s realism for me, though they didn’t significantly detract from the overall enjoyment of the narrative. It’s also worth noting that the writing is clean, with minimal grammatical or spelling errors, allowing the story’s creativity to shine through.

I would recommend A Tracker’s Tale to readers who enjoy fantasy, magical realism, or supernatural fiction. With elements of vampire and werewolf lore woven into a framework of psychic abilities and human law enforcement, the story strikes a satisfying balance between magic and procedural intrigue. It never leans too heavily in favor of one species or perspective, which gives Katherine’s caseload — and her decisions — a strong sense of fairness and integrity.

Overall, I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a compelling start to what I expect will be an exciting series, and I’m looking forward to seeing how Katherine’s world — and her responsibilities within it — continue to evolve.

A Tracker's Tale by Karen Avizur is an interesting FBI/paranormal suspense. This book was so easy to read, I couldn't be,wives how fast I got to the end of the book. Werewolves, vampires, psychics, and many other paranormal beings are found as cast members in this book. The leading protagonist is a psychic/FBI agent. Plus, it's a she. I loved how the writer tackled the paranormal and suspense genre and combined them both into an entertaining tale. The plot thickened as I dug further into the pages.

Intrigue caught my attention. A human man somehow 'accidentally goes into werewolf territory'. These areas are so well-marked that it makes it very unlikely for a human to go wondering into the wrong zone. Then, there are the vampires, who play into major political crap roles. As an FBI agent, Katherine got called into a lot of political vampire crap. It was funny and full of drama. Next, there's the issue of her daughter being targeted and kidnapped. Katherine will go into super mom mode just to protect her daughter and keep the world safer.

Katherine is a likable character. Her personality made it easy to connect with her. Plus, she's human and has a lot of traits that make her a hero. Her partner is interesting to follow as well. He makes some of the crappy and worse situations seem like typical police work. Katherine's daughter is also a psychic just like her mom which adds to this paranormal plot.

Karen Avizur has created a new series that I would recommend to all. Suspense, danger, and mystery all wrapped up in one great package. Plus, the mother-daughter bond is fun to read. A dash of humor, politics, and crime are also found inside this book. Plenty of action that kept me reading.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

This story is fast paced and action oriented, with sympathetic characters in a straightforward good-guys-vs-bad-guys conflict. The plotline is episodic in nature, but the events gradually tie together to lead up to a tense climax.

There is a general rule in fantasy of all types not to mix magical styles. Paranormal separate from witches and wizards, particularly. There is a good reason for this, apart from the fact that it becomes hard for a reader to remember which rules are applying at any given moment in the story.

In this book, the main character is a truly bad-ass FBI agent with all the skill in violence that involves, and also a psychic who can read minds and have premonitions. On top of this, she is some kind of witch who can cast spells. This is a problem in the final conflict because this woman is so talented and so powerful that no matter what the threat, we know she’s going to solve the problem, thus reducing the suspense.

Thematically, it’s an interesting book. The main character is an extremely violent person who uses her powers for the good. She has trained her daughter to defend herself. This is a teenager who jokes about not leaving the house without her phone, her pepper spray, her knife and her other knife. But when the daughter starts to emulate her mother’s crusade, the mother realizes that she is just perpetuating the violence. This brings out the basic dichotomy of America’s violent heritage; the solution to violence is not more violence. But the book is so steeped in an atmosphere of violence it denies the lesson.

I don’t often make political comments in a review, but if you want your children to grow up as loyal NRA members, give them this book to read. Recommended for adults who like simple action with plenty of guns and gore.

A Tracker’s Tale by Karen Avizur

Katherine Colebrook is one of the best Tracker agents in the FBI’s unit that handles parasapien cases. She’s trained in all the defensive arts and has psychic abilities. Katherine is a single mother of a sixteen-year-old daughter, Alexandra, who is also psychic and trained in defensive arts and weapons.

The police found Rebecca alone in a diner, rocking to and fro afraid and mumbling. The doctor admitted her to the mental ward of a children’s hospital. The nurse on duty, a friend of Katherine’s, thinks Rebecca may be psychic, however, she is also a high functioning autistic teenager. Someone is trying to kidnap her. When Katherine learns her older brother was killed trying to protect her, Katherine askes for a quickie adoption from the FBI, so she can protect her.

It doesn’t take long before the fists and feet start flying, races against the clock ensue, and training a new partner begins. Of course, politics finds its way into the story of Werewolf society, Vampire hierarchy, and Mob bosses. Which all requires Katherine’s special touch. It’s all edge of your seat intensity with surprising twists and turns. It’s no holds barred when Katherine get fired up, her stamina wore me out reading about all the action. All of the story arcs are brought to a close except the mystery surrounding Rebecca’s past and her nightmares. Then in the last chapter two new characters are introduced who are connected to Rebecca. Luckily book 2 of this series is published.

A TRACKER'S TALE was one of those stories that I didn't expect much of going into, but quickly grabbed my attention and I wished I had more to read when it was over.

I really enjoyed Katherine. She was hilariously bad-ass with a fantastic personality. Her being a mom brought another interesting factor to the story. Her daughter is pretty bad-ass on her own and I enjoyed getting a few parts of the story from her POV. They had a pretty great bond and I look forward to seeing them work together in future books. Katherine's partner was easy to like. They are new to each other, but their personalities seem to mesh well and they worked well together. Their introduction to each other was pretty entertaining.

The plot was balanced nicely between Katherine's everyday happenings and the mystery of the storyline. I enjoyed the investigation just as much as seeing Katherine's struggles on the home front. You really get a feel for just how awesome Katherine is when she confronts the bad guy at the end of A TRACKER'S TALE. They had no clue what they were getting into when they messed with her family and watching her put them in their place was truly something else. I'm sure they will clash again in the future and I honestly can't wait for that to happen. I'm positive that it will be highly entertaining.

A TRACKER'S TALE was a great story with great characters that left me wanting more. I will add book two to my wishlist as soon as I see it up on Goodreads. Fingers crossed that it won't be too long until it comes out.

I was excited to be chosen to read this fantastic debut novel! What I loved most about it was the main character, Katherine. She is a tracker for the FBI, but also has psychic abilities, which she uses in cases involving paranormal beings. The focus was on one main case, but we also got to see several side plots that were part of Katherine's life. I enjoyed her interactions with various types of beings, and the ways in which she used her psychic abilities were fascinating. I appreciated how the author italicized the psychic parts so that it was clear to the reader what was going on. Also, the visions and sensations Katherine receives add a lot of emotion and detail to parts of the story.

Katherine's relationship with her teenage daughter Alexandrea was also very well-written. I enjoyed the dynamic between them, and thought it gave me more insight into Katherine as a person. She also has a sense of humor, which was a nice touch to offset some of the more violent parts of the story. (Yes...there is plenty of action in Katherine's life...she's not solving these cases from behind a desk! She spends plenty of time out in the field, and often gets to demonstrate her non-psychic skills. There is definitely some violence, but everything was in keeping with the character and story.)

I'm excited to see where this series goes next. There's plenty of room for readers to learn more about Katherine, and for her to grow as a character. There's also plenty of options for new and exciting paranormal cases for her to solve!

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I had a difficult time getting into A Tracker's Tale by Karen Avizur. Although the plot was interesting and the characters likable, the more technical aspects of the writing left something to be desired.

The narrative was incredibly wordy. Descriptions were over-done and bogged down the pace of the story with irrelevant details. I think a strict editor could have brought the story back from the brink of a one-star rating, but as it is, I quickly grew bored.

For me, the story lacked the draw of good writing. It started with court proceedings and moved on to inane phone calls between professionals, in-head description, and minimal dialogue. There was little to no actions, personality, or soul.

Do I think the book was awful? No. There are definitely people out there that will find this an interesting read… but I didn't feel drawn in or the need to continue past the first 10% of the book.

This book is a slow builder, and it will get to the point where it’s hard to put down, but the first part of the book is building the world and introducing the characters. In this world, all types of supernaturals exist and live among the human world and an agent like Katherine, is a psychic who tracks the cases that the human world can’t. Katherine’s abilities give her an unique and rare gift to be able to see what the people are thinking and seeing the immediate future of their actions at times. Katherine also is one of the few with the license to kill parasapiens when needed.

There is not a large main arc running in this book, it’s about a week or so in Katherine’s life, both with her daughter and her foster child, and her work at the agency. There is not any romance in this book, but it didn’t need it here. One thing that is a bit confusing is how the point of views are written, since it switches off, sometimes I had to take a second to figure out which character was narrating. Looking forward to the next book.

In A Tracker's Tale, we follow the story of Katherine, a brilliant FBI agent, who is physics. She is a tracker, if parasapiens step out of the line, she tracks them down, no matter what. She has a daughter who has the same abilities and had trained her on the down-low. Alex is already almost as badass as her mother. :)

Aley is by far my favorite, she can totally kick ass, knows how to handed weapons and at the same time seems like a magnet for trouble. Katherine isn't far behind, she is brilliant, resilient and the definition of badass, and looks like someone who is fun to hang out with. :) I love the dynamics between them. Even if you are badass you can more than one thing, you can have family and still kick ass on the regular. :)

The story is set in a world where parasapiens-paranormal live alongside ordinary people. It's not all rainbows and unicorns. There is a lot of prejudice and peace seems to be very fragile. I would love to read more set in this place. :)

She has to testify before the jury and while in town a friend calls her to examine a case. A girl about her daughter's age was found alone in the cafe. She is autistic and takes a while to figure out what is going on. Her brother was murdered and a vampire is hunting her. But there is little knowledge about her past. The main storyline follows the murder trial, but there a lot of side investigations. While I like that, it was hard to distinguish what the main storyline really is.

Very well written for this genre.

My husband got the full set of books for Christmas. He had previously shared without me some of Me. Avizur's writings if short stories which I found very entertaining.
Many writers treat paranormal fiction with kid gloves, and a little too wholesome. I'm not speaking of erotic paranormal fiction which is the other extreme.
Ms. Avizur's characters are strong females that are fearless, do the right things with grit and determination, and I found them immediately likeable.
On to Book 2.

A Tracker's Tale is a mystery mixed with magic. I liked Katherine right off the bat. The way she handles herself in the opening chapter just made me want to learn more about her, and her world. She's a strong heroine who takes no bull from anyone. No matter what life - or the paranormal throws at her, she meets it head on. If you love mysteries with a little thrill and love the paranormal, you're going to fall head over heels for this book.

Riveting!

This is more of a review of the author. I started following her on Reddit, enjoyed her writing, and asked if she was published. She pointed me to this series.

Very interesting! She takes today's world and slips a bit of magic or the paranormal in. The way she wove the story kept me intrigued and interested. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The book drew me in right away. While I didn't have trouble staying somewhat engaged, the stories in the book were introduced and resolved abruptly. There's not a plot per se. It is more of an introduction to the world and the characters. All in all, I didn't find it satisfying even though I enjoyed reading it. Odd.

Good book

This is an action packed book with ongoing use of psychic abilities by the FMC, her daughter, and her adoptive daughter. Radars definitely on!

Get ready to dive into the strange and intriguing world of trackers and the supernatural beings they track.

Katherine is a psychic tracker working for the FBI who tracks parasapien species who step out of line. We are first introduced to her, and her abilities, when she is called in to look at a young autistic girl brought in by police to a hospital. With her abilities she can see that Rebecca was told to run by her brother for her own safety before he was murdered. Also that she has psychic abilities herself. It seems that a vampire was after her and Katherine will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

The story then sort of has a ‘month in the life of’ vibe throughout, jumping from one scenario to the next in Katherine’s life. Not really one linear story pushing you forward but rather you are following the cases and lives that get interlinked together from Katherine being a tracker. More interconnecting than most books I've read. You have random characters and small sub-plots being brought in and out as footnotes from the perils of her job. A way of pushing the story forward without getting bogged down with everybody’s backstory. Good really as they disappear just as quick as they appeared in the first place.

Like mother, like daughter it seems. Alexandra might only be sixteen but she is just as capable of taking care of herself. She sees herself as a protector of others, like her mum, but the thought of putting herself in danger scares Katherine to no end. She wants a different life for her but can see her eventually following in her footsteps with the need to help others using her own gift. They are all going to need their gifts to keep one step ahead of danger that follows.

Interesting read but did find it a bit too descriptive in places with setting the scene. When you know someone is coming, that there’s danger or intrigue, you kind of want the story to pick up the pace.

I received a copy of this book from the author for my honest review.
