Lost near lethal crevasses and cliffs in a blinding whiteout blizzard is the last place anyone would want to be…
Windy Corner on Denali has claimed lives, fingers, and toes. What would make someone brave lethal weather, crevasses, and slick ice to attempt to summit North America’s highest mountain? Denali has claimed over one hundred lives. It seems like the place for risky adrenaline seekers.
In this book, the author shares the lessons Denali teaches on managing goals and risks. Everyone takes chances at some time in their lives, even if it’s driving down the highway. Becoming a risk manager rather than a risk taker is what will keep you alive during difficult times.
Experience the cold, solitude, and uncertainty of life on high mountains. Apply the message, build resilience, and overcome adversities in your life.
Reading books is a simple pleasure really, and for one true book lover being pulled into the story is always a thing, but the real excitement happens with the stories that have really happened. While, yes who doesn't a love a good fantasy or being able to let your imagination run wild with some flying dragon or a super intense crime thriller that makes you root for the good guys, it's those stories that really happened that grab you the most. Real adventure, real danger, real mystery, the unknown unfolding within each page. It grips you fast and keeps you at the edge of your seat wanting to know just what happens!
Lost at Windy Corner is a book just like that, and I loved it! It's always a pleasure to read along as an adventure unfolds, and Aarron Linsdau did an amazing job putting his experiences down on paper. In Lost at Windy Corner Aarron takes you along with him as he takes on Denali, the highest North American mountain. We are taken through several challenges and along the way some extremely interesting facts and information is poured out throughout the book, which I love! There are a few small pictures throughout the book, which give you an insight to what it was like along the way, but the way Aarron describes the entire adventure is very descriptive , full of details and gives you a great picture in your mind of what he went through along the way. Can you imagine waking up and trying to fix breakfast in -10F ? Or better yet breaking camp even to move on to the next location? Some of the things they went through were mind-blowing! It takes a great deal of focus and determination to deal with a trek through some of the harshest weather as, It's not just physically challenging but mentally fierce on oneself. Not many people would end up thinking a climb up a mountain would teach you things, but it does, in more ways than one and Aarron certainly does a wonderful job sharing the lessons learned along the way.
Even though we're not climbing a mountain along side him, we can learn from his discovers and put faith behind the messages he gives which we can apply in our own lives. One of my favorite ones from the book are -
" Having Gratitude for an experience is what keeps the attitude positive, even when things didn't work out as planned"
There are many others which make this book a real treasure to read. You aren't just along for the adventure , but a fellow student as he learns to challenge himself, look at things a little differently and keep pushing on. Lost as Windy Corner is a great book , I really enjoyed reading how far Aarron took himself both up the mountain as well as through his own personal growth. He's got an amazing spirit and a good perspective as he explores uncertainty along his journey, which he shares wonderfully.
Keep going but know when to take a break and maybe wait for another day. This can apply to almost anything you want to do. When I first started my Bookkeeping Business there were nay sayers a plenty. I calmly kept going forward. Sure I made a couple of mistakes along the way-everyone does--but I kept on going until I had about 30 clients or more--and I was a solo practitioner!! I remember my neighbors saying how will you make enough to pay your bills--I said--just watch me! It took my Mom a lot longer to realize I had actually done it. Well, now I am semi retired and am still working with some of the clients I started with. They have informed me I am not allowed to fully retire.
When you read how this author actually went SOLO to climb Denali (formally called Mt. Everest)--you can only marvel at his stamina. Luckily he had the sense to not make it to the top--it was too dangerous at the time. You will also notice that he helped and was helped by other climbers along the way. After each chapter is an inspirational quote which can be applied in many ways in your daily lives! Lost at Windy Corner
Lets meet our real life explorer as he attempts to try and climb Denali in Alaska and tackles the ordeals it brings. Very interesting to read a true account and amazing to find out how much preparation and planning goes into an expedition, reaching his goal, and then the short window of opportunity he has to achieve it. The hours of training in the gym to be fit, double checking you have all the right equipment, because without it it could mean death, and the worst thing of all meals and the lack of toilet facilities.
We meet our adventurer in Alaska travelling to the base camp. As he ascends and travels you feel his pain and his fear of failing, the anguish of what people will think of him. You can also imagine the beautiful sights and sounds he is experiencing. Enjoy the camaraderie between the climbers he meets at various camps and the trust they have in each other relaying the important information on weather conditions and weak spots in the ice, it's paramount to them to not only reach the top but keep themselves safe.
The true beauty is it is the old story of one man's conquest to conquer Mother Nature in its purest and harshest form. Who will win? You must read this book to find out and if you enjoy travel and adventure, along with a real experience, this is the book for you.
My husband will enjoy this book as much as I do. It is a beautiful book of inspirations and survival. I loved the photos and the quotes at the end of the chapters. This book is full of adventures. I loved how the main character is fearless and enjoy the best times of his life. I cannot imagine how gorgeous the view is. I would rather take photographs than climb as I have fear of heights. This book is not only amazing but the tips are very helpful too. If you love the wild scenery like Alaska, this book will amazes you. I enjoyed reading this book.
I found the story very interesting and written as though you were listening to the author talk for the most part. The pictures included didn't really add to the book, and if anything took away from the story. It was definitely an inspiring tale and proves that if you're determined enough you can do anything you set your mind to. A perfect motivational read for those who feel they are facing insurmountable odds.
This author likes to go to extremes. First he survives an adventure in Antarctica, then in this book he details his climb on Denali Mountain in Alaska. Talk about grit and determination, it took everything he had to survive that adventure too. Aaron Linsdau is also a motivational speaker, so you could say he ‘walks the talk’. His expeditions have shown him that anything is possible as long as you prepare and persevere against whatever deters you.
I really enjoyed reading of this adventure. His descriptions put me alongside him, taking it all in. It was definitely an eye opener. I can’t say I would enjoy the climb and the cold, but I know I would love the solitude and beauty.
Incredibly inspiring! Not only does Aaron Linsdau share a personal story but also wraps it up in motivation. Almost to the point where you want to jump up and climb Denali (Ok, not really....because let's face it, most of us are far from prepared for that type of adventure). Take the book at face value and you get a personal account about adventure, adrenaline rushes, and taking a risk with life. However, there is a deeper meaning that I hope everyone who reads this book, takes with them. Regardless of what you choose to do with your life, do it with passion, confidence, and an unshakable belief in yourself. You have to develop a personal relationship within yourself to know when you're taking a risk that can reap rewards or when you're simply being risky. Taking the climb solo was a risk -- one that tested Aaron's internal relationship with himself. He took a strategic risk and avoided fatal danger by having confidence to know when and when not to take that risk. I love the quotes - I should read them on a daily basis!
I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
