Nectar #3

Essence

Rate this book
It's here! Essence, the much anticipated book three in the Nectar trilogy is ready for you. Wondering how Tristan & Kyla will get their much-deserved HEA? Here you go! All three books are now ready to be devoured!

Essence is book three in the Nectar trilogy, a dark paranormal romance. Reading these books in order is essential. This is a dark paranormal vampire romance and contains scenes and triggers that may be disturbing.

Contains: VAMPIRES, BLOOD, SEX, MYSTERY, BAD GUYS, ANSWERS, and running-a-red-light sex.

In Nectar, we met Tristan and Kyla, who found themselves together in a dark bedroom. Kyla, an offering to Tristan, a vampire with an insatiable appetite.
They were almost instantly addicted to one another.

Kyla couldn't help feel magnetized, drawn to the handsome vampire prince, despite the fact that he held her in his home and in his bedroom against her will. He forced her to feel things physically as well as emotionally.

Tristan was clearly drawn to Kyla, too. Not only was she his preferred type but the fact that she wasn't mesmerized like all the others and the fact that her blood was better than any blood he'd ever tasted created a fierce protectiveness as well as other mysterious emotions in him.

He transformed from arrogant hedonistic vampire to a lovesick romantic.

Love is rarely easy and this REALLY seems to be the case when the supernatural gets added into the mix!

Things weren't going well at the end of book one and Kyla had a tough snap decision to make.

In Ambrosia, Kyla had to deal with the fallout of that decision and process the truth, as it revealed itself. There was a whole lot of stunning, unbelievable truth to process while she felt herself changing, getting stronger, exhibiting some supernatural powers of her own.

At the end of Ambrosia, things went terribly wrong and Tristan was faced with the reality of the agendas of those around him, those he'd trusted, those who had been grooming him for his leadership role.

Essence begins with Tristan's POV as he processes what happened at the end of book two and tries to find a way to right those wrongs.

The twists, the turns, the steam (phew), the blood? Wait until you see where this story goes!

This book is the end of the Nectar trilogy but won't be the end for these characters. There's a HEA, no cliffy, but the doors will be left open for you to potentially learn more about some of the secondary characters as well as to see where Tristan & Kyla's adventures will take them next.

This dark romance contains explicit sex, blood and gore, violence, sexual aggression, potential triggers, and a connection that surpasses all the heroine and her alpha vampire prince ever thought possible.

4 Smut Scale Stars

This book brought the smut train caboose of this series to the station. I really enjoyed the first part of the book and the hero’s desperation in the face of the heroine’s…situation, but the latter half of the book fell off the tracks a bit. And the epilogue was truly atrocious. But really though. Quite the mess.

Still, this series in general was a fun smut time. The writing was not great, there were tons of plot holes, and lots of repetition…but when you are reading erotica vampire romance, you really aren’t looking for literary genius, you know? You are looking to be entertained. And I was. So this series was a win for me as far as enjoyment. It was like a guilty popcorn smut snack moment.

*3.5* As with book 2, there was too much repetition, feels like filler rather than the characters actually engaging. Still, hot sex, drama lama with the vampire history and loads more info on Kyla and the discovered new family.

Mixed overall feelings with this one. The 1st story was so intense and original, but the second and third just felt clogged down with too many filler details. Tristian went from being raging alpha to a neutered pup quite quickly.

This will be a preview of a sort...

this was a nice closure...Tristan and Kyla' s story got the HEA...

Somehow the pace and tempo was slower in the beginning but i guess it was a way to emphisize the agony that Kyla was going through and angst and helplessness Tristan felt through it...

Then the rhythm pushed in the 2nd gear and Tristan went into this full shift alfa protective mode and comanded the scene while he tried to put things back in order in both of their lives and in the vampire hierarhy...

Entertaining and well rounded story filled with passion...and neverending vampire love. *wink*

‘Essence’ is the last book in the ‘Nectar’ trilogy and the continuing romance story of Kyla and her vampire love Tristan.

This book was divided into two parts, in the first part we got Tristan’s POV and in the second part we got Kyla’s POV. I’m very happy that the writer did it this way. It made me understand Tristan’s character and feelings so much more. You really could feel Tristan’s despair, pain, guilt and love in the first part. It was so emotional. I loved that! But don’t worry, Tristan may now be more ‘human’ sensitive then in the first book that if needed, he can still be very ruthless and deadly. In the end, he is still a very dominant, alpha vampire who is very protective of his woman.

Of the three books, this one was my favourite. I think because the main focus of the story was again on the couple Kyla and Tristan and their feelings (just like in the first book). It was a little bit less dark then the second book (or to me it felt that way) but the story was still very emotional and intense and with each secret revealed there came a hopefulness in the story too.

After what happened in the previous book I was very curious what would happen next and the writer did a wonderful job of giving us the answers needed to leave this vampire world with a good feeling. All my questions were answered (I loved the epilogue(s)) and the main characters may still have a hard and difficult route ahead of them but I have all confidence in this couple.

The secondary characters in this story were also very interesting. It was lovely to discover new (family) characters and to get to know some other familiar characters better.

This vampire trilogy was a very interesting, emotional and intense read. It was perfectly balanced between not too dark and not too light. I think it’s perfect if you want to try a dark read but also nothing too dark. It does have a few triggers so not for the tender-hearted.

This is the conclusion to the trilogy. There is a lot of information and storyline in this book. I picked up on new things that I had missed the first read through. That is how much is happening in the story. I still am claiming Tristan. He is mine. This author knows how to write an anti-hero. MMMMM HMMMM. Yummo.

I cannot wait to see what the future holds for some of the secondary characters in this story.

Fantastic series!!!

I loved this entire series!!! I would love to see it continue elaborating on some of the “supporting cast.” There are so many stories to tell. Thanks D D Prince for a vampire story so uniquely different from all the millions out there. I would highly recommend this series.

This third book to the trilogy is action packed and fast-paced. I read it almost in one day - that for me is really fast, ha! I especially love that there is a duo-PV involved here, I especially treasure the path Tristan has taken to get Kyla back, I re-read that part twice even while I was reading the whole book. I love the intensity between Tristan and Kyla, I've always loved the kind of hero who may seem a bit obsessive and over-protective towards the heroine, and here I have it in spades, yea! I love the character growth throughout the three books - both Tristan and Kyla have transformed into stronger and better partners for each other, and it was lovely to witness. And I don't know why, but something about them having sex while feeding (you know, vampire here) is so erotic that every time I read that my libido is set on fire. You'll not regret it with this series.

Murder, mayhem, restructuring of an elite vampire society, finding lost siblings all while trying to form a new relationship into a forever love, that's what this third and final book in the Nectar series gives you. Tristan is one bad a*s vampire who loves Kyla with everything he has and way OTT alpha possessive qualities. Kyla is a feisty smart character who gives Tristan as good as she gets. Together they remind me of the Cat and Bones characters in the Night Huntress Series. This is a good trilogy that has you guessing who is bad, who is their allies and who to trust all wrapped into a steamy hot romance. This book answers most if not all your questions, no cliffhanger, great read!!! New author to follow!!! Finale or is it?!

Okay...

Why am I in love with Tristan??? I hated his guts at the beginning of the series because of the things he does to Kyla but I'm confused now.

What kind of a person am I? Why just... Why?

I know that I'd never be into someone like that in real life.... Right?

This is the third and final book in the Nectar Trilogy and my least favourite of the three. You have to have read the first two novels for this one to make sense so if you haven't, you've been warned. I bought this book when it was on special with Book 2. If I'd bought the second installment on its own and read it first, I probably wouldn't have bothered to buy this one as the story declined for me in Ambrosia, but here we are. Kyla is in an entranced state as a result of the events (most of which came out of the blue and didn't make much sense and weren't really explained here, either) that occurred in the previous novel's cliffhanger. This book revolves around Tristan trying to find a way to wake Kyla up to her former self, a trip to an island where Adrian's (the mad scientist) unwilling protege resides, Kyla's brother (gasp, shock!) who has blood with magic properties that stop female vampires from turning into vamps from hell, the usual up and downs of Kyla and Tristan's relationship and an unknown threat that bodes ill will to the couple.

As with the other books, this is allegedly a dark romance and Tristan is supposed to be this misunderstood alpha who's life has only just begun when he found the love of his life in Kyla. Fans of possessive and cliche males will continue to eat this up, but for me he remained annoying, repetitive and whiny. While I'm at it, so did Kyla. There was no character growth and as a result, the plot came across as much of a muchness. As with the other two books, Tristan and Kyla were trying to figure out what Kyla is and why she's special so this story was pretty much more of the same with a slightly different setting and some new characters chucked in. Characters give well-timed dialogue that fill in the gaps or try to make plot connections for the reader by feeding them information that hasn't been properly introduced or included, making the story line lean on the clumsy side for me.

We spend the first chunk of the book with Tristan lamenting over Kyla getting attacked, him not protecting her and him blaming himself while being full of despair for her health and their future. If you've read the other two books, this back and forth is not new, just the circumstances that brought it about. Instead of building on the plot and using the opportunity to add detail, we're stuck with Tristan and his feelings - I get it, he blames himself and is upset about Kyla. I don't need chapters of this for it to sink in. This just comes across as filler...because it is. We then get Sam, the right hand man, conveniently filling in gaps of the story and articulating plot elements. This is lazy writing to me and several characters go on to do it throughout the book. Here's a convenient explanation for why this is happening or how you're feeling so I can move on to the next section of the story. Pffft.

There were elements of the story that were too over the top to be stomached and considering this is a book on the supernatural and a woman having magic periods, that's saying something. There was Kyla coming out of her catatonic state to immediately have sex with Tristan who apparently couldn't wait another second because he'd gone without booty for a bit. Ah, nope. She's starving from not eating so what does he do? Have a feed. If that doesn't win him boyfriend of the year, I don't know what will. Then there's the constant ripping off of Kyla's clothes. I get it, Tristan is just so super in love with her that clothes are the enemy, but honestly, their clothes bill must be astronomical lol.

The formula for most of the book continued along the same pattern as the first two. Kyla and Tristan fight but then they have sex to make up because they just love each other so much and he needs her to survive. This is on constant loop and shoved down the reader's throat so that the jealous/possessive fans are sated. Kyla gets to meet her brother, a plot line that was random and seemed a bit forced in. A lot of his scenes, including how he wakes up after being in a coma, was ridiculous. We get Tristan once again talking about how bad he is but we're yet to see anything that screams bad boy and he continues to come across as pretty bland. He seems to do little to no work, so that's pretty bad, I guess.

There are more plot lines around Kyla's menstruation, including Tristan pashing her after being intimate with her bits during that time of the month. Gross. The piece de resistance, however, without giving too much away, is the completely random and virtually unknown character that ends up being the antagonist at the end of the series. This was a complete let down as it had nothing to do with the story we've been dragged into for three books and then it ended as quickly as it was introduced to the reader. At first I was confused and then just rolling my eyes as there's a random kidnapping attempt followed by the epilogue.

Basically, if you've read the first two books, you've pretty much read this one as the style of the writing, the repetition and the lack of grown of the characters and the plot made it feel as though you've been here before...which you have. There's lots of filler and the same issues the first couple of books had and as a result, I ended up skimming across a lot of the pages and didn't feel as though I missed anything. If you've read Books 1 and 2, this review isn't going to make a big difference to you as you're probably committed enough to want to continue. I wish I hadn't but it did give me closure.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. No spoilers here.

Well.

First of all, you must read Nectar and Ambrosia before you begin, but then what else would you expect - it is a trilogy! I promise, it will not be time wasted.

DD Prince left unanswered questions in both books, and this is the place that sates your curiosity in unexpected but oh-so-satisfying ways. Seriously, this woman's imagination is twisted, but in SUCH a gooood way!

Frankly, if you're reading this, I'm jealous that you have (presumably) yet to read the book, and perhaps even the whole trilogy. I wish I was a Nectar virgin so I could go back and have the satisfaction of reading it for the first time.

Thank God Tristan and Kyla get their HEA - it looked pretty shaky there for a while. How does it all work out? I'm not telling you - I promised no spoilers, remember? Just lock yourself away, put the hubby on ice for later, and devour this trilogy like a dessert binge-fest.

Oh, and my new favourite phrase ... begins with "News Alert!" Keep an eye out for it - and, word to the wise - don't have a mouthful of coffee when you get there... ;)

Holy fuck sticks! Have you ever started a series, fell in love with it and couldn't wait for the last book to come out, only to not want to read it when it came out because you didn't want it to end? Well that's me! As soon as Essence came out I put off reading it cause I didn't want to leave Tristan and Kyla's world! I finally took the plunge and ravaged the book in a day! I loved Tristan and Kyla's story so much. From book 1 I was enraptured into their world. The suspense, drama, passion and of course delicious Alpha male sexiness. One of the BEST paranormal series I have ever read. I loved that DD Prince left the ending with a possibility to write about some of the other characters and continue this series. Swoooooon! Can't rave enough about it! I love DD Prince's books so far and have even read The Dominator and Truth or Dare several times and I know this series will be one I won't hesitate to read again!

4.5 stars -

I liked book 3 a lot! The story had significantly less sex but this was in favor of telling a truly unique story.

The H was heartbroken about this and I felt his love for the h. I loved the growth that occurred with the H and the journey he took from wanting to possess her body to truly loving her. I loved that. I loved reading about him trying to fix the h and bring her back to him. I pretty much devoured that portion of the story.

I would recommend this series to you if you're ok with dub-con/non-con; if you're ok with cliffhanger endings; you like an argumentative, feisty heroine; enjoy push/pull between the hero and heroine and are ok with some minor editing issues. The push/pull occurred mainly in book 1. Read the preview and see what you think of the author's writing style. This isn't a favorite of mine but I did enjoy it and think that many here will too.

Wow what a conclusion to an amazing series, this book see's trusts broken, truths told, deception discovered and above all else how strong a bond Tristan and Kyla actually have. The angst is high, the love is strong and the sex is bloody hot. I really enjoyed the other characters becoming more involved in Kyla's and Tristan's world so much so we may see more stories in the future. Overall an amazing series which I really enjoyed. Would highly recommend.

“I love you so much it hurts but it’s the sweetest pain I’ve ever had, my prince.”

Tristan and Kyla are just perfect together, they had many ups and downs like any couple but they powered through.

My heart broke for Tristan so many times at the start of this book 😭 Kyla is practically catatonic and he just doesn't know what to do to help her, he doesn't know who he can trust to help him either 🥺

"And now she’s here, beside me, empty. My little cherry bomb now has vacant eyes, just like all the rest. Kyla is empty. My Kyla who was so full of life, of fire, of fireworks. I can’t feel her. And the silence, the emptiness is loud."

But he manages to get his little cherry bomb back and it just makes them that much stronger 🥰

Tristan just wants to protect Kyla, but she's not going to sit back and be some Stepford wife, she wants to be in the thick of it protecting him like he protects her!

“Tristan, I’m not gonna be the mousey little lady here. You might as well get used to it. We’re in things together.”

I can't believe I've finished it 😭 I could have kept reading that world forever!

It was a beautiful and perfect ending 🖤

Their journey wasn't easy and they had ALOT to overcome in this book but they did it together 🥰

Sad to say good bye to such an awesome series

In this book it ties up Tristan and Kyla’s story while also leaving it open for later add ons possibly concerning other characters. I could have read this over and over and still would not get enough of Tristan . You never knew who Kyla and Tristan could trust and the villains were revealed. Kyla got to know more about her past and Tristan got to grow into his protective love of Kyla now that he knew what she needed to stay healthy . I loved the last chapter . If you like alpha males , paranormal romances, or vampire stories with a twist definitely give this series a try. This author writes really great possessive men and for me that’s what makes a great book boyfriend !

Amazing!

Whew! Finished this trilogy in 3 days and I don't want to leave Tristian and Kyla! This book and trilogy was so much more than I ever expected. Oh, and I don't read vampire books, ever! D.D. Prince converted me and I am not complaining! I have been on the edge.of my seat reading this book. Action, deception, love, hate, and secrets. I really hope she writes more of this series, so many stories to tell! You will absolutely not regret reading this series!

3 1/2 Stars! I am very happy to say that I definitely liked this book a lot more than I did Ambrosia. I really liked the different spin that DD used involving the bond between Tristan and Kyla. It was refreshing to not read your typical vampire turns love interest into a vampire story line.

Sadly, I didn’t like the ending. There were still a few questions that needed to be answered or problems that needed to be solved and the solution to this was having all of that answered in a summary in the epilogue. That was extremely disappointing to say the least! And then to top it all off, we only got about three pages of Tristan and Kyla looking into their HEA?!! They went through all of that pain and heart ache and that was all we got? DD is an author that seems to be either hit or miss, so that is just something to keep in mind when reading her books.

5 STAR TRILOGY!!!

The Nectar Trilogy was a 5 star read for me. If I were to take the parts (that I loved) in every vampire book I've read and mixed all them together in the end it would be the Nectar trilogy. Awesome read, awesome characters, and awesome author....thank you Dd Prince for writing the perfect vampire books.
