From USA Today Bestselling Author Nora Flite comes a new sexy, and beautifully dark, second chance romance. I'm a hostage. The food is fancy, the carpets are lush, but this bed isn't mine. I'm only here because of my father's enemies. I hate all of them. Except for him. The first time I meet Dominic Bradley, he saves me without a second thought. This kind boy is nothing like the rest of his family. Our friendship comes easy. When he leaves for six years it shreds my soul. It's nothing compared to when he comes back. He's turned into a hardened soldier with hungry eyes; a man that makes my heart race. A man that wants to hate me while also aching to be my first kiss. My first everything. He acts like we're enemies, like he's forgotten our past. But I can't. It's impossible to forget the moment I fell in love. I know where we began. I'm not sure where we'll end. Filthy... heart-stopping... you'll become obsessed with knowing how it ends.
A USA Today Bestselling Author, Nora Flite lives in Burbank, California where the weather is warm and she doesn't have to shovel snow—something she never grew to love in her tiny home-state of Rhode Island. All of her romances involve passionate, filthy, and slightly obsessive heroes.
Intense, addictive, and sizzling HOT! I devoured this thrilling, sexy tale...
It's a bit of a hostage story--right away Laiken is taken from her primitive-cabin family life with her to live with Dominic's very wealthy family in MA. Why did this happen? (You find out pretty quickly, and it's a major plot point.)
I LOVED the description of the sisters (Laiken + Kara) and their bond, and I loved how Dominic + Laiken became friends as soon as she arrived at his home. Then he's shipped away to military school...
Throughout Laiken is strong and feisty and just perfect, and when Dominic returns several years later, holy hot tamales!!! SEXY SEXY!!!!! Their chemistry is fantastic. From there, it races to the conclusion, and I can't WAIT to see what happens next!
This was a good book, but the synopsis led me to believe this was going to be much much darker than it was. I would categorize this under suspense bordering on contemporary before anything resembling "dark" (which is how a lot of people were describing this for some reason).
I was expecting Laiken's situation to be worse than it ended up being. The way this story gets set up makes it so it's tame nature works against it. Getting the story from Laiken's perspective makes it so you don't know the real impact of her dad's situation with this family. There isn't a sense of urgency from her where her dad is concerned. She's just happy to wait him out until, for her, the unthinkable happens. That's where things start to move somewhere at a very slow pace.
Dominic needed more development as a character. The only thing that kept me interested in him was his "big secret". He barely had a personality in between all that. I would have liked more witty banter between him and Laiken so I could have the semblance of chemistry between them.
The writing style was good but the pacing as too slow for me. The overall story was okay. I had an inkling that this was going to end in a cliffhanger and I wasn't proven wrong.

"I know all too well what hope is good for: creating a happy glow that leaves a darker shadow in its wake when it's snuffed out."

The Where We Began duet instantly grabbed me through the synopsis and the promise of darkness. I love a good dark romance, and this seemed to promise an abundance of darkness – thus, I was more than happy to dive in.
I’ve reached the conclusion, however, that I set my expectations for dark romances a bit too high. I like the kind of dark romances that have most people shying away, the kind that end up on many ‘did not finish’ lists because people could not handle how gritty they are. I love such books, and whenever I read a synopsis of a dark romance I convince myself such is what I am going to get. Earlier this year, I had a good run where I stumbled upon quite a few of these reads. It seems, however, that my luck has recently ran out. Although I’ve had some fun dark romances, they are not to the level of darkness I would like. Such is the case with Where We Began.
It sounds wonderfully dark, and yet I felt as though things were all rather tame compared to what we were promised. It was a fun story, I cannot deny that, yet I was constantly left waiting for something a little bit more. In truth, this is more of a three-point-five-star rating than the three-star rating I gave it – yet I decided to round down as I was holding out hope for something a bit darker.
Throughout there is mystery and intrigue, questions you want answering, and this is what kept me turning pages. There were plenty of details touched upon, and I was in dire need of more. It may not have been as dark as I wanted it to be, but it had the layer of unknown that kept me turning the pages. By the end, when certain details were revealed, I found myself needing to grab book two.
Although this wasn’t quite the story I had been hoping for, I’ll certainly be picking up Where We Ended to see how everything comes together.
"Nora Flite is absolutely brilliant with words, and I'd read anything she writes...even a grocery list. Where We Began is FIVE STARS of dark, twisty, and sexy. Please, Nora, when is the next one coming out?" Wall Street Journal Best-selling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills
I wasn’t sure what I was getting into with Where We Began but I wasn’t expecting such an intense, hot, and edge of your seat, book that I wasn’t able to put it down.
When we first meet Laiken she’s so carefree and young, without anything standing in her way, and then she’s taken away from her family and forced to live with Silas, Annie, and Dominic and is held hostage. Dominic is her only saving grace until he’s shipped off to military school. When he comes back he’s a different man who has secrets of his own and all she wants is the bond they shared so many years ago.
Watching Laiken and Dominic get to know one another again, was interesting, especially knowing that Dominic had secrets, and not knowing what they were. I wanted to know what they were so bad, and how bad they were going to affect what was going on between them. Laiken had no one she really bonded with since she was taken from her family and once Dominic reappeared in her life she finally felt balance again, but she knew he was keeping things from her, and once he started to open up some, is when she finally let him in. Both of these characters have a lot of hurt in their lives, but they both handle things so differently. They are definitely complete opposites of one another and I think this is why I loved them together so much.
There is so much that happens in this book but you just can’t talk about it in the review without giving so much away. I will say there’s so many secrets and lies and sexiness in this book that it will keep you hooked from beginning to end, and the end? OMG I can not wait for the finale to come out in a few days.. it needs to be in my hands ASAP! If you’re looking for a book that will keep you guessing as well leave you wanting more, then you need to pick up Where We Began right now. I will be waiting on pins and needles for Where We Ended to find out how Laiken and Dominic’s story ends.
Where We Began is book one in Nora Flite’s Where We Began duet. Wow, where do I start? The story sucked me in right from the very beginning and I did not want to put the story down. Laiken and Dominic, are the main characters and their meeting is under less than ideal circumstances. Laiken is taken from her sparse cabin family life to live with Dominic's very wealthy family in MA. Why did this happen? Slowly the picture is shown to the readers in the story. All of it had to do with her father and what he did is why she is taken and Laiken did nothing but is seemingly punished for his sins. Dominic may be the son of her captors but he's not like them. He's there and he gets his way under her skin and then up and leaves. But its his return years later has the huge impact. Dominic is very powerful and seduces Laiken under his spell. Thing is Dominic has secrets, oh so many secrets. The story has this push/pull from the very beginning. There is this huge question that dominates from the very beginning -- what deceitful deed has occurred that allows a child to be used as a pawn. There is a lot going on here in book 1 and trust me, there are some sick villians in this story that has allowed Laiken to be used as a pawn and to be kept away. The story ends on a cliffhanger and I am dying to read book 2 to finds out what ends up happening. This story is rife with intrigue, suspense, danger, angst, fear, pain, and hope. To be honest, I'm ready to learn Laiken's fate and redemption...or to be honest, her revenge!!!
My Rating: 4.6 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
Right now, the ending? I don't have a clue what's happening but this is such a page turner, I frickimg love it! I can't put together what's happening and I'm so intrigued. Moving on to the conclusion!
Where We Began is a powerful, intense, thrilling read. It begins with Laiken a young girl about 12 years old being taken from her remote home and family by a group that her father seems to be familiar with and afraid of. She is moved to an estate with a new family and their son Dominic . Why has she been taken...you find that out very quickly. She is a smart, sassy athletic girl that has learned to take in everything around her and that soon becomes her saving grace to keep her on her toes. She has no idea who she can trust but develops a friendship with Dominic . He is only with her for a few months when he is sent away to military school and she is now left to fend for herself. When he returns 6 years later they have both grown and they soon realize that they have a strong physical attraction to one another. Dominic cannot believe how much Laiken has changed she is a product of her world and has become strong, feisty and intelligent . Her natural beauty is more than he can bear and soon he wants more . Laiken cannot fight this attraction to Dominic but she doesn't trust anyone in this family. They have an amazing connection and off the charts sexual chemistry but their are too many secrets and lies! I cannot wait to find out what happens! Loved it !! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
This took a while to read because during that time I also found another book to read and it was, at the time, much more interesting. But I managed to come back around to finish this one since the other book is starting to suck now.
But yeah, I didn't like this book. It's my fault really. The summary was partially interesting to me and it was free at the time of buying it.
The book is about a girl named Laiken (WTF kind of name...?) is a thirteen-year-old girl who is taken from her family because of some dumb, cowardly mess her dad did. She goes to some fancy mansion and meets the owners' son, by the way, it was the mom of the son who went to the house to take this kid from her family.
So she makes friends with the son and then he leaves for six years and comes back. He's all hard and linked up with a past and secrets he can't tell. Same old, same old. He and Laiken are obviously attracted to each other and after a while, he tells her he is going to do whatever he can to make her his and she finally submits to her attraction.
Then the dark secret comes out at the end, but you have to read book two to see how it pans out.
Okay, so I'll start with the characters. I always kind of wanted a heroine like Laiken in the dark erotica I read. Someone who is not scared and who doesn't coward. Because I mean nearly all DE authors write the same heroine. Someone who is always scared and goes through the emotions and thoughts of trying to convince themselves to be brave in their situation, only to submit to the anti-hero in the end anyway.
But this isn't a dark erotica and Laiken has nothing to be scared of. She is just a new resident in a big mansion full of snotty people who only took her from her family just to make sure her cowardly lion of a father doesn't run off.
She has this sunny kind of personality, never seems to be upset and always hopes and has it in her mind she is going to home soon. She is very sensitive about growing her hair out that is already floor length because of a promise she made to her sister.
I finally kind of get the heroine I kind of wanted and it doesn't work for this kind of story. She just seems stuck in this thirteen-year-old mindset. She doesn't know what a computer or the internet is, she learned about sex in books because of the Beauty and Beast styled library the family has. Her comments and banter towards people are always childish. When she does meet her sister again, she expects the same old little girl from six years ago.
She just didn't work for me.
Dominic is just another cliche guy who is a skinny child when he meets Laiken, befriends her and then leaves. Comes back after six years and is all muscled, tatted and guarded up with secrets. He initially tells Laiken they are not on the same side and tries to be enemies with her but can't help himself and they get together. Blah, blah.
I did skim the book so I didn't really understand the situation and beef they have with her dad. But it has to do with computers and him stealing money from them.
So what I had thought had hoped was going to happen was that after he came back after six years, he would stop trying to please the parents that so openly despise his guts and try to rescue Laiken and get her out of the house. Maybe they are on the run from his family or he would help her try to find her family or something.
What really happens is that it is Laiken's job to come up with an idea to keep the family from losing business or else the baddie mommy dearest is going to "have her way with her" so she comes up with a party and she meets her sister there who by this time has not kept their dumb kiddie promise to keep her hair rapunzel like. And she seems to know and hate Dominic and knows his secret that he is trying to keep from Laiken.
I guess that's interesting. You haven't seen your sister in six years and while he was in military school, they somehow met that she knows his secret. Which I don't even see what the big deal is or why is this even a shock if it is true since they did take a child from her own family? And you think murder is a line they won't cross? You idiot.
Well, there's no refund to be given so I'll just go to the next series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the first book in the Where We Began Duet so be prepared for this part to end on a cliffhanger. I am a big fan of captive/hostage books so the blurb for this book intrigued me and I was a little wary when the hostage was a young girl however the author handles the subject really well and it was not the issue I anticipated it to be.
Laiken is taken from her family as a form of collateral that she doesn't understand at just 12 years old and she is a lovely spritely girl that is determined to find a way out as soon as she can. However, her 'prison' is a far cry from expected but Laiken rebels where she can. She forms a quick and fast friendship with the families Son Dominic who quickly becomes her salvation in the situation.
Until Dominic leaves for school, leaving Laiken alone in her private hell as she awaits his promised return. The story quickly jumps in time by six years where the two eventually become reacquainted but things have changed, Dominic has changed from the sweet boy that Laiken has clung to the image of into an hardened man that leaves her confused. The connection they shared is gone and replaced by a sexual tension as they both realise they are now on different sides but for how long can they deny the attraction they share?
This is an interesting well written and paced read that whilst not as dark as some captive books I have read it has twists that will have you turning the pages. I am left with so many questions from book one and am glad that book two is already on my kindle which I hope reveals the answers I need.
I started and finished this book in one day. It was one of the best books I think I’ve read in a while.
I finished it and I said “Fuck. That was a really great book.”
I absolutely LOVED it! I loved the storyline, especially. And Laiken and Dominic are wonderful together. They make my heart melt. Even though Dominic is a little rough around the edges, he makes me swoon. I can visualize him in my mind and he’s one attractive man.
This book, especially towards the end, had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down, as I read it in a day. I avoided all human contact to finish this book. I cannot wait for the end to this duet.
I just feel like I can’t give enough examples of why I loved this book. This book was just fantastic from beginning to end. At the beginning, as Laiken and Kara were running through the woods, I had the sense that something bad was going to happen. And something bad did happen that changed Laiken’s life forever.
I can’t begin to tell you how amazing I thought this book was. Once I finished I just sat there and wondered what to do next. I need the next part NOW. I have to know what’s going to happen.
I started this book and finished it in one day. I just couldn't put it down because I had to see what happened.
Laiken has grown up in a very sheltered life. All she has ever know is her family and the cabin that she lived in, surrounded by only nature. That all changed when she was 12 years old and was taken from her family and moved into a life she never wanted, all because of her father. When Laiken was forced into this new life the only "friend" she had was Dominic. Laiken never really changed her ways even though Annie tried to force her into a certain way of life. The only thing she did change was that she learned about new technology and ways of life through all the books that she read. The only thing keeping Laiken sane what hoping for the time when she could return to her family.
Dominic started off as a skinny 12 year old. He was the only friend that Laiken had until he was sent away to school. When he finally returned six years later a lot had changed. He was no longer the skinny boy but a hot, tall, and very muscular 18 year old. However, his looks were not the only thing to change. He no longer was the sweet kind kid that Laiken knew and wanted to return to help her. Dominic's life was nothing like she thought it was and she was soon to find that out.
How will Laiken react to the way Dominic is now and will she be able to get over the surprises thrown at her?
Overall this book was amazing, sexy, hot and at times suspenseful. Nora did an amazing job with the story line and defiantly had some twists that I didn't see coming. All the characters (main and secondary) had a way about them that made them seem real. The other thing is HOLY S**# what a cliffhanger!!!! I cannot wait to read more about Laiken and Dominic.
Wow this is a brilliant read. I read this in an evening as I couldn’t put it down.
The storyline is brilliant and I absolutely loved Laiken and Dominic. Laikens whole life changes when she is taken away from her family. Everything she knows and believes in is torn to shreds. The only light in her dark lonely days is Dominic. When he returns after being gone for six years he’s changed so much. He’s a tough soldier now aiming to please his father. He gets more than he bargains for when he meets Laiken again, the girl he’s never forgotten about.
Lots of questions rolling around in my head. After that ending I can’t wait to jump into the second part of this duet.
Where We Began by Nora Flite is one of those well-written books that will captivate you from the cover and keep you in its grip until the very end, and even then you are left with wanting more. It is filled with betrayal, secrets, suspense, sizzling chemistry, forgiveness, and so much more.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Wow what a book. Read in one day. That's how good it is. This book will keep you on your toes. The characters were skool good. I can't wait for the next one. I volunteered read this book for a honest review
Nora Flite is a phenomal writer who brought Laiken and Dominic to life. This book is a two part series and the first part sucks your soul inside the book and won't let it go. I'm on pins and needles waiting to read Where We Ended.
If it would be a standalone I would give it 5 stars but it is NOT a standalone! Ugh...I hated it. SO that's why only 4 stars. I loved the blurb, it was so promising! And when you read the story you can't put it down because it makes you want more and more! Laiken. I loved her courage. She was feisty doesn't matter the consequences. Dominic. Eh that man...he is still a mistery for me, there was left many questions unanswered. I really want to know what will happen next. Where Laiken's father? What happened with Kara? Dominic's secret??
The beginning was exciting. I was intrigued, then I was horrified, and finally I felt anxious. I quickly came to like the wild little heroine, so I didn't want anything bad to happen to her. Then there was the little hero of the story, who was only around for a few weeks before his parents sent him away. There was something forlorn about that boy, and again, I immediately liked him.
They met when they were twelve. They didn't meet again for five years... and this is where the story failed for me.
The details of what happened in that time were so damn vague. His (Dominic) past is mysterious for a reason, which I've no doubt will be revealed in book two. However I wanted to know what life was like for her (Laiken) in that time. One minute she was a lost but wild little girl, the next she was a grown up, still wild, and desperate to reconnect with her family. I wanted to know how she was treated. Did she go to school? Was she treated like a prisoner? It was all skipped over so quickly.
Then there were other things that bugged me... There wasn't enough build up before Dominic returned again. I didn't particularly care for the adult version of him. I didn't feel any great attraction between Dominic and Laiken, aside from the fact he was possibly the only male her age she'd had contact with in her life - but as I said, I could be wrong since details of her life were so vague. And there were other things too.
Guess you could just say I found this story disappointing. It wasn't the worst, it just could have been better. Will I be back to read book two? Maybe, as I'm curious about Laiken's sister. But I'm not in any great rush to read it.
Hot and sexy Romantic Suspense – Book One of a duet.
The author of this book does it again, and I was grabbed by the plot and kept hostage for the entire length of the first book in this duet. How is it that Nora Flite can pull hotness and passion from the teeth of adversity – actually she is just that good!
Dominic and Laiken are two people whose lives reflect the secrets and lies of their parents, who were once apparently in the business of banking together, and, in book one of this romantic-suspense duet, the plot gets thicker and the romance gets hotter!
Her fate is wrapped in her father’s debt. Growing up in an idyllic and isolated spot in the forest, revelling in the close bond with her older sister, Laiken at 12, never questioned her father’s reasoning that there were no other people nearby because they didn’t understand the beauty of nature. She didn’t understand what was happening when people showed up to take one of his children, Laiken herself, away to live with them. Who was Joseph Laurel and what he done that one of his kids had to be taken hostage to control him?
Dominic was also 12 and had never been loved by his parents. Not knowing what it is that he’d ever done wrong, he still tried his best to gain their approval. Becoming friends with the new girl now living with his parents, Dominic enjoyed his month with her before being sent away to military school. Upon returning six years, he vows never to let them down - again. He’s certainly not Laiken’s childhood friend anymore, but he is one all gorgeous, muscled, tattooed and holy crap on a cracker HOT male! Even as he betrays Laiken to keep the approval of his parents, we see from his POV that he’s in deep, and knowing that when she finds out his secrets, she’s gonna hate him, he is still bound by his need for her.
After six years Laiken is still as isolated ever, and sees her sister again at a fabulous event hosted by her captors – shocked at the revelation that Kara and Dominic know each other. He’s kept his own secrets from her, but she’ll hear them from Kara, and they’ll devastate her.
She just may have been able to face her future with him, until her past comes bursting back in with a cold shoulder that she’ll never be able to lean on again. Where We Began ends in one hell of a cliff-hanger, but, don’t let it put you off. The next one isn’t far away, and it’s worth waiting for. 5 stars.
Ruthless captor becomes captivated by his prisoner !
Laiken and her sister Kara grew up happy. They were best friends, thick as thieves, and did everything together…including paying for their father’s sins.
At a young age they were separated. Laiken was taken to keep her father in check and Kara stayed with the family. That brought an unexpected halt to their happy childhood. Laiken is strong, determined and brave. She knows she will be home soon. Laiken is now living, under duress, miles away in Massachusetts. Dominic is the son of Annie, the woman who took her. Laiken and Dominic bond almost instantly. He becomes her only friend in a world full of enemies. Soon Laiken learns that her friend and now confidant is going away to school. Laiken is now alone. Years pass and Laiken adjusts to her new life. Dominic returns. This Dominic is not the kind hearted boy she once knew.
This Dominic is a man. Stronger. Darker. Nothing resembling the boy she once knew. He’s cold. He’s a monster. They need to find a way to coexist so Laiken decides to help sort out the mess her father has left. They begin to work together. An awkward but sensual kiss leads to flirtation, but Laiken is cautious. She needs to get home to her family, not flirt with her captor’s son. Dominic is not cautious. All bets are off. Dominic is going after what he wants, what he’s always wanted…Laiken. Laiken’s father may have betrayed Dominic’s family, but her father was loving, kind and caring. Dominic’s family is ruthless. Dominic returned home one of them-Ruthless. Heartless. He has a secret Laiken doesn’t know. She already hates his family, but this secret, would it make her hate him as well? THIS STORY WAS AMAZING AND HOOKED ME RIGHT FROM THE START ! FILLED WITH MISCONSTRUED INTENTIONS AND INCESSANT FLIRTING WITH LUSTFUL CRAVING ! ! ! THIS IS BOOK #1 IN A DUET SERIES, EAGERLY AWAITING BOOK #2 ! ! !
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review and, although it is part of a duet and therefore a cliffhanger (which I usually hate), I loved it. The story sucked me in right from the beginning and I did not want to put it down. Laiken and Dominic, the two MC's, meet under less than ideal circumstances when they are twelve years old. Laiken has just been separated from her family d/t reasons she does not understand, but this is used to keep her father in line. Dominic is the only son of the couple that take Laiken, but is sort of the child dreading his encounters with his family yet always trying to appease them. Dominic helps Laiken with the house maids one day and thus begins an unlikely alliance of sorts. But, Dominic is being sent away to military school, so their close friendship is short-lived. When Dominic returns after six years away he has changed, but so has Laiken. They have both grown up, but Laiken has remained a prisoner in a gilded cage. It is hard for her to understand the changes she sees in him and she is not sure how she feels about it. He now keeps secrets from her too. But, underneath it all there is a budding desire for each other. Will their desire for each other be enough to flush out all the secrets that they both keep? Or will Dominic's secret be the one thing that can destroy them after all? People try to warn Laiken away from this "new" Dominic, but like a moth to a flame she keeps being pulled into his heat. When she is finally told the rumors by an unlikely source what will she do? Can she stand by the man she is beginning to have feelings for, or will she hate him forever without even giving him a chance to tell his side of the story? I cannot wait to find out what is revealed in the conclusion of the duet! If you hate cliffhangers then you can just wait until both books are out to start reading, but I don't think you will be disappointed at all.
What happens when your life as you know it temporarily ends? Do you hold on to promises made, deny, fight back or simply accept your fate? What happens when you're 12 years old and have become the pawn in a game you don't understand and have no rules? What happens when you hold on to going back home...soon?
Laiken loved her life. Her family lived simply and fully even if a bit away from society. It was heaven. Until one day, one woman changed everything. Ripped from her family because of her Father's sins. Everything now is focused on getting back home.
Laiken soon learns she has a new Savior, Dominic. He may be the son of her captors but he's not like them. He's there, etches his way into her skin and then leaves. But his return years later has an impact. No longer the boy but a man. Seclusion hasn't left Laiken unaware. Dominic is powerful and pulls her under. But he's got secrets, dark secrets.
This story has a pull from the beginning. You wonder just what deceitful deed has transgressed that allows a child to be used as a pawn. She lives a bountiful life but merely exists, often in fear. The author gives us supporting characters such as Laiken's father and sister that I felt both disgust and sorrow for. And Dominic's parents, oh how I wanted to crush Annie, slowly and painfully. I despised this woman but she was a driving force in the story.
The author gave us intrigue, mystery, fear, disgust, tears and hope all in one story. I'm ready to learn Laiken's fate and redemption...or maybe revenge!!!
I voluntarily received this ARC. This is an honest, personal Review.
Where We Began is a compelling first book in the duet series. Ms. Flite has a way with words that hooks you from the start. She weaves a complex and intriguing plot ripe with fear, danger, and secrets.
At the age of twelve, Laiken Laurel is taken from her family to live at the Bradley Estate. In simple terms, Annie and Silas Bradley take Laiken as hostage ensuring her father, Joseph Greene, continue working for the company as a hacker and prevent him from vanishing. She meets Dominic Bradley and they become fast friends. Knowing that Laiken is sheltered, he persuades her to gain more knowledge of the modern world in preparation for her new life while in captivity. But their time together is short-lived as Dominic is sent to military school.
Six years later Dominic returns home no longer the skinny boy she’s missed all those years, but a powerful and dangerous man. Dominic and Laiken are drawn to each other but resist acting on the attraction, at first. Laiken is cautious, understanding that one misstep from her could cause harm to her family. As the story progresses, Laiken discovers she is surrounded by betrayal and secrets. What really happened to her family all those years? What is Dominic hiding from her?
Where We Began ends with lots of unanswered questions, and I can’t wait to find out what happens. This mystery continues with the final book of the duet, Where We Ended. Will Dominic and Laiken find a love free from the constraints of Dominic’s controlling family? I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Amazing, I was absalutly obsessed with this book! Everything about this story is a page turner. Laiken is a hostage paying for her dad's mistakes and Dominic is desperately seeking his parents approval. Wow, Let me just say this book is so trilling. I love the whole plot of the story and how everything plays out perfectly. The mystery it has is just so intense. The more you read the more you uncover about Laiken's troubled family and the secrets Dominic is struggling to keep hidden from her. I felt like I was constantly on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. I love that the beginning of the story gives you insight as to how everything all started for Laiken. Then fast fowards to six years later where so much has changed with the people around her that she is having a hard time trusting or believing anyone. She is so desperate for her own freedom but at the same time she is also addicted to the connection she has with Dominic. She can't ignore that her heart is split in two. Dominic is most definitely finding a light to his darkness when he is around her. Despite his troubled past he doesn't give up on trying to make her "His". Knowing that if she found out the truth she might hate him or see him for the monster that he believe he is. I also love that this was a dual pov, it really gave the story more of an edge. I most definitely will be reading the next book. I can't wait to see how it will end. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THIS STORY. If I could give it more then 5☆'s I would. Nora Flite amazing work!!! I am Truly a fan!
Where We Began is such an amazing read. I love the characters and the world they live in. The circumstances both Laiken and Dominic are in are so raw and real. I couldn't help but be entranced by the both of them.
Where We Began, starts out with Laiken an innocent and carefree young girl. Faxed with her father's sins, Laiken decides she's the one who would carry the burden instead of her sister. A bargaining chip to keep her father in line.
Laiken is a scarred little girl taken from her home and her family. She's determined to return and never gives up hope.
Dominic, a boy who will do anything for his parents approval. He is drawn to Laiken the moment they meet.
Laiken and Dominic are instantly enamoured with one another and instantly become friends. Laiken is placed in a world she doesn't understand. Dominic helps her adjust, until he is basically forced to leave for military school.
Six years later, Laiken has learned to survive to keep her family safe. Dominic returns, a blistering hot man still drawn to Laiken.
Laiken tries to fight her attraction to Dominic. When she finally gives in, both their pasts come barreling towards the light. Can they both overcome their pasts? Can they forget and forgive? I can't wait to find out in Where We Ended.
Such a great read. Beautiful and fast paced. I loved every minute of this book.
This is the first book that I have read by Nora Flite. It is Book #1 in the Where We Began Duet. The plot was gripping, caught my attention immediately and held it until the end. Nora did a brilliant job bringing these characters to life. It was heart-stopping, dark, suspenseful, sexy, steamy, and touching at times.
I loved that the heroine, Laiken, was strong, fierce, and loyal to those she loves. the bond that she created between the hero and the heroine.
The hero, Dominic, was initially a sweet boy who befriended Laiken and took her under his wing but that didn't last long. He is forced to leave for military school. He is gone for six years but when he comes back, he is not the same sweet boy she knew when he left. Is he still in there somewhere? Laiken is convinced that he is but Dominic insists that boy is long gone. In the end, can Laiken find the boy she once knew?
This was a page turner. It sucked me in from the beginning. I read it in one day! It is one of those un-put-downable (I know that's technically not a word) books!!! It is a thrilling and addicting read that will leave you wanting, craving more! There are twists that you won't see coming! I highly recommend reading this book! I am waiting with baited breath to see what happens next in Where We Ended, Book #2 in the Where We Began Duet, coming out soon.
The moment I read the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it even though I knew it would end on a cliffhanger. It was mysterious with a suspense that made me want to know what this story was about. Laiken (such a unique name) was an innocent child taken away from her family. Dominic was her bright spot in a new scary world until he had to disappear from her life. Six years later they are back in each other's life. Dominic is now hardened with secrets that he doesn't want Laiken to know. Laiken, as she puts it is "Six years of limbo, that's what you are looking at." She has been strong and waiting patiently for the day she can be with her family again only to have that thought and more thrown at her like a bucket full of ice water on your head. I love Laiken! And even with Dominic's so called secret out in the open (I definitely think this is more to this secret!) I like him too. I think him and Laiken are perfect for each other and can help each other find their love and happiness. I not so sure how I feel about Laiken's sister. I want to like her but I have a feeling I'm really going to hate her before she can redeem herself (IF she can redeem herself). I need to read Where We End! I need these answers!! And I need to see Laiken's HEA, defintely need to she her happiness.
Where We Began is one sexy, twisted and dark read. Full of suspense, intrigue, danger, fear, pain, angst and hope this book will put your emotions through the wringer all while keeping you captivated until the end.
Laiken has lived a simple life up until the age of twelve when she is taken away from her family. Introduced to a world she doesn't understand or want to be a part of Laiken finds comfort in the new friendship she develops with Dominic. Dominic is unlike his parents who have taken Laiken away from her loved ones. When Dominic is sent away to school Laiken is left all alone.
Six years later Laiken is surprised to find Dominic has returned home. However, gone is the sweet boy who was her childhood friend. In his place is a dark, secretive, and hardened man. Others warn Laiken to stay away from Dominic but she's drawn to him like a moth to flame. I loved the push and pull between them. Forced to work together things definitely begin to heat up between Laiken and Dominic.
As the story neared the end and secrets were revealed I was glued to my Kindle and on the edge of my seat. When the story ended I was left wanting to know so much more. I can't wait for the second part of this amazing and captivating duet!
Just shy of a full 4 star, This is an intriguing read where we find Laiken at age 12 being taken from her family as a bargaining chip to ensure her Farther does not go off the grid again. She is whisked away to a fancy house and on arrival the maids try to cut her hair but a promise to her sister has her fighting them, in steps Dominic her stops them and ensures they don't try again. He is her only friend their and also the son of her captives a wealthy and ruthless couple her farther use to work with. Before going to Military school Dominic spends the 4 weeks trying to teach her of how real life really is after spending her life living off the grid with her family not knowing they were in hiding. Fast forward 6 years Dominic is back and not linger the almost 13 year old kid but a delicious piece of man and Laiken is still stuck in her Mansion prison, things are different now and everything starts to unravel and we are left wondering who to trust, what will happen next and will Laiken ever find home?! The only thing that bugged me really about this book as I felt both Laiken and Dominic should have been older when they meet again and they felt older when they do/say and act about many things but didn't annoy me while I read as forgot that's how old they were meant to be.
