Thankful Tenys had never met anyone like him. She hadn't met many boys really, being home-schooled her entire life. But after her mother's illness, Thankful is forced into public school her senior year. And that's where she meets the mysterious Liam Gregor.

Exiled by the entire school and deemed as cursed by his classmates, Thankful is warned to keep her distance from Liam. But with one tempting grin, Thankful can't stop thinking about him. Befriending Liam may mean sending herself into exile, but his pull over her is strong.

One touch and Thankful falling. Her skin on his and Liam's coffee brown eyes dissolve into a sea of blackness. Liam IS cursed. Will meeting Liam be something she regrets? Or something only she can be thankful for?

Loved this! Great start to a series that’s filled with learning about yourself, trusting others, a little bit of paranormal and mystery! Thankful and Liam-wow! She’s an amazing girl and I loved her steadfast dedication and the good she sees in people-may we all be a little more like her🤎

The story starts with Thankful Tenys, a homeschool girl till now, enters high school after her mom got sick. Both her and her were taken care of by her aunt Bailey. On the first day itself she got herself a friend, Chelsea. She got bullied by her schoolmates a lot. Later on we get to see how she managed to cope with everything. She found Liam, a broody dark guy who grumps at anyone who nears him. Everyone around her sees him as a cursed guy, no one would approach him. Thankful Tenys decided to know more about him and wanted to be friends with him. Everything comes with a price, she got attached with liam and then drastically things changed.

Oh Liam! That boy is one of a kind. He's mysterious, broody but not rude. He avoids people at all costs for certain reasons but people mistook him and make fun of him. Liam and Thankful relationship is so cute, I adore them very much.

I loved Bailey but as the story unfolds, I have so much hatred for her at the end. But the bond between Bailey and Thankful is unbeatable. For some reason I like Chelsea even though she's a little judgmental. In the middle of the book, Bailey went to work and appointed a person to look over Tenys mom which affects Thankful's mentally. She started overthinking about how lonely she would be, if her aunt wasn't there. The author described that perfectly well.

The author has created a world where Readers and the Knowing coexist with normal humans. Writing is impeccable, all you have to do is pick this book and start reading within seconds you'll be absorbed into it. Her story telling will draw you in and won't let you sleep till you finish it. Towards the end there's a hectic amount of twist waiting, be prepared.

This book ends in a cliffhanger, and i already jumped onto book 2 of the series.

A homeschooled girl.
A cursed boy.
One touch turns his brown eyes black.

Thankful’s mom is very sick and she has to go to public school for the first time to finish out her high school career. Liam is an illusive, intriguing guy and Thankful can’t help but be attracted to him. A whole cast of new friends and experiences, new romantic feelings to investigate and an undercurrent of secrets yet to be discovered give this young adult fantasy an interesting vibe. The real question is: who can really be trusted?

I found myself breathlessly anticipating each twist in this story and awaiting something to strike. While things slowly unfolded, a feeling of foreboding and mystery swirled through the pages, subtly winding the plot tighter and tighter, until it finally burst and I was taken off guard. I love a book that can do that for me.

These characters were fun to watch. It was endearing to see Thankful and Liam develop a friendship and more. Everyone wants to be where their name is known and where they feel loved and accepted for who and what they are and it was sweet to watch them each settle into a comfortable pattern.

I loved the mystical elements that tainted this small “normal” town. It will be fun to see where this series goes.

Content: mild romance; mild moments of danger/peril; a parent with a terminal disease

I had gotten so burned out on young adult fantasy and stayed completely away from it for a good year (or more). That's a long time for an avid reader!......but then my sweet mother in law gave me "Untouched" and I'm so glad she did! It reminded me of why I once loved this genre so much!! It's full of mystery and romance and secret powers, plus wondefully developped and likeable characters. There is confusion abt WHAT is good and WHO is good. The story has heart, but consider this your warning......it's a trilogy! Although there is enough resolution to keep me satisfied, I'm super anxious for the remaining books! Jen Atkinson knows how to tell a story!!!

I don’t tend to read many YA books, or fantasy for that matter, but I love Jen Atkinson so I gave this one a try and loved it. I was not prepared for the amount of tears I would shed before I even got 1/4 of the way in, but this is a beautiful story. It does end on a cliffhanger FYI.

*4.5 stars* Jen Atkinson does a great job adding plot twists to her stories, and I thought this one was especially good. I would have preferred less romance and more focus on the adventure side, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this and am anxiously waiting for book 2!

Having been homeschooled all her life, starting high school for her senior year is more than a little daunting for Thankful Tenys. It's REALLY daunting. So when she meets the super standoffish Liam, that all the kids in her small town school are convinced is cursed, she knows it is in her best interest to just stay out of his way. And yet, there is something about him and his "otherness" that really resonates with her own loneliness. So she doesn't stay away - and Thankful learns enough about Liam and those "curse" rumors to start making her own choice about this untouchable boy.

It's a fast read and I particularly appreciated Thankful having a challenging home life with a sick parent, something you don't see super often in young adult books. The romance is cute and for the most part I believed where the story took me - up until about the last 1/5. Then it just became too Twilighty for me (and it had already reminded me of Twilight enough to make me roll my eyes a little). I also found myself frustrated by Liam's constant growling, eyebrow knitting and Adam's apple bobbing. I wanted more from him, a little more depth. And it's hard for me to imagine a young man that is always growling. Despite that, I did read it fast and there were a few good plot twists that I didn't totally see coming. Less picky readers might like it a lot better than me.

At first, I just thought this was a YA novel of a teenage romance. But, midway through I realized there were strange forces at play. I appreciate the buildup and the backstories, because this was book 1 of a series. I also appreciate the trip down memory lane to my own high school years, when friendships shifted from 'love' to 'hate' in one class period. And, when 'who' you sat with at lunch could make or break your 'cool' status. And lastly, it brought me back to my first love and first kiss against my locker before gym class. Ahhhh to be young again.

In summary, this supernatural YA was packed full of drama, romance, family issues, intrigue, conflict, and mystery! I would definitely recommend.

Really great read

I read all the things I want in a good book, good character development, good plot growth, happy times, frustrating times and the, "I can't put this book down" syndrome. I'll definitely read the rest of this trilogy and am sad I have to wait!

Untouched is book one of The Untouched Trilogy written by Jen Atkinson. I was lucky enough to discover Jen last year when I returned to reading after many years. I love how she develops her characters and makes you fall in love with them. The previous books I have read lean more towards adults, whereas this one is more young adult (YA).

Thankful Tenys has been homeschooled all her life until her mom falls ill, and she has to go to public school for her senior year of high school. She immediately is the center of all the gossip and whispers. Soon, she discovers she is not the only one who is front and center regarding rumors. Liam, her handsome and mysterious classmate, is said to be cursed. People say when he touches you, you become cursed, and horrible things will happen to you soon after. Thankful is drawn to him like a moth to a flame and determined to prove he is not cursed.

Against her friend’s advice, she does not keep her distance and begins to befriend Liam. It’s not easy to befriend someone so standoffish, but she does succeed. While Liam warms up to her, Thankful notices strange things about him. Wanting to know more, she shares secrets about herself in a deal to learn more about Liam. She uncovers more than she was ready for. Without going too much into the plot, the book takes a supernatural turn that is freakin awesome. I love paranormal aspects in books, which adds to the fascinating storyline. Twists and turns keep those pages turning to the very end. Remember that this is only book one of the trilogy, and you are left with a tiny cliffhanger. Jen has left me sitting here wanting to read book two as soon as possible!

Thank you to Jen Atkinson for gifting me an eARC of Untouched. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thankful has been homeschooled her whole life and is being sent to public school her senior year. Her mom is sick, and her aunt is living with them to help, but she has to finish school and graduate. She knows nobody (well, one girl who doesn’t act like she knows her) but makes a couple of friends quickly. She’s also warned to stay away from Liam Gregor that first day of school. Why? He’s cursed.

She ends up deciding she doesn’t care. She’s determined to talk to him. Find out why he keeps his distance. He starts to crack and lets her hang around. He even ends up telling her his secret - he’s a Knowing.

Her friends don’t understand her draw to him. Why would she want to hang around him? All Thankful knows is that Liam is the most interesting (and sweet, and cute, and fun to be around) person she’s ever met.

She learns more about the Knowing, and about Readers, others who have different abilities. The two are basically enemies. So when some Readers show up in their small town, they know something is up, and it can’t be good.

YOU. GUYS. This book hooked me. Thankful and Liam are some of my favorite teenagers. Young love is sweet and theirs is the sweetest. Liam’s dad, Troy, is the very best. I absolutely adore him and his love for his son and Thankful.

Did I send Jen a message at the end of this book asking what she had done to me? Yes, I did. Why you ask? Let’s just say you’ll be left wanting to pick up book two (Unknown) ASAP.

I’m fully convinced Jen could write absolutely anything and I’d love it. Even if you don’t usually read YA, I think you’d like this. You can get it in KU or paperback. But be prepared and have time to read all 3…because you’ll want to keep going.

I liked it a lot but the ending bothered me

I guess I should warn that this has SPOILERS.

Thankful has a great character and personality. I liked that she did her own thing and didn't care what people thought, or at least didn't let the care of other people's opinions influence her. Thankful and Liam has great chemistry and I'm glad we got to see them as a couple for most of the book instead of them dragging out their attraction to one another for way too long without doing anything about, which we unfortunately see in many books. It was good. Kind of built up slowly, but that's fine considering it is a romance. Things turned a little south for me when Thankful starts talking to Ellis, a stranger, and revealing too much information even though she knows that Readers are in town and she needs to hide her thoughts. Then she thinks she sees the Readers and doesn't warn anyone, even just to be on the safe side, because she doesn't want to upset anyone. This was so foolish it really irritated me. Why do characters have to be stupid to advance the plot? Then she gets in the car with them after they threaten her!!! No no no!!! You never let someone move you to a different location!!! Aagh!! Things got wrapped up a little too nicely and quickly. I guess Thankful is very forgiving but her aunt is kind of evil. That relationship should be dead. I saw it coming though that Phoebe was a reader. Overall I liked the story. I do plan to read the others, just wished the climax and resolution had a little more umph. Also, Phoebe started at out with green eyes, then halfway through the book she suddenly had brown eyes. There were also a few editing issues as well.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I’m not usually one to enjoy novels with paranormal or supernatural elements, but this one changed my mind! The story was believable and intriguing, with so much feeling and heart, I was hooked from page 1. The relationship, the chemistry, the development of the two main characters, the intense plot line - all were top notch. I couldn’t help but root for Thankful, as well as Liam - they are a match made in heaven. And so many moments between them were just so tender - I was left wanting more!
Also, I have to give a shout out to Troy and Pops, they were just so wonderful - funny one moment, fierce and protective the next. And, their banter - I could totally hear Pop’s Italian accent popping from the pages! Way to create amazing secondary characters, Jen, (Phoebe too) I thoroughly enjoyed them.
And the ending of this first book (though there is more to the story), was satisfying enough, all was left in a good place, even if there was a sort of cliffhanger. Jen cleverly created a hook that leaves the reader breathless to know what happens next.
In a nutshell, I highly recommend this novel to adults and young adults alike - it’s intriguing, fulfilling, touching, yet stirring. All the things I love in a good story, earning it 5 golden stars.

Thankful has been homeschooled most of her life until now when she’s put back into public high school. Her mom is dying of severe Huntington’s disease and she feels like the new kid odd ball with no friends. Cue the beautiful broody boy she spots sitting alone who everyone tells her not to go near. So naturally she does.

Liam has a secret. Everyone leaves him alone because they think he’s weird and dangerous and they’re right. Until the new girl forces her way into his life and he’ll never be the same.

I’m not normally a big YA reader but I’m so glad I read this book to review for @authorjenatkinson because it’s a beautifully told story that gives me Twilight vibes (minus the vampires). It’s an absolutely original idea for people with special powers that I’ve never read before and learning about the Knowing and the Reader communities was fascinating. This is book one of a three part series (and I downloaded book 2 as soon as I finished because wow!)

If you’re looking for an original concept and a light hearted series that gives fantasy and romance vibes, check this one out!

Untouched by Jen Atkinson
Authorjenatkinson
YA Romantasy

Untouched starts out with Thankful, a homeschooled girl who starts public school at 17. SEVENTEEN, YA’LL. I was homeschooled until I was 13, then put in public school for a semester, hated it, then went back to homeschool. Talk about a shock to the system. But that isn’t the sole focus of this book, Thankfully. See what I did there? 🤭

She meets a brooding guy (Liam) who is rumored to be cursed. It’s said that whenever he touches someone, something bad will happen to them. Well, Thankful doesn’t believe it and continues to be kind to the outcast. She pursues him because she wants him to have a friend. Also, he’s cute so I mean why not? It doesn’t matter that his eyes turn to black when he touches her.

I appreciated that Thankful is sure of herself and doesn’t cave to peer pressure. I feel like she could have easily been portrayed as a timid girl, being homeschooled for so long. Great homeschool representation!

This is book 1 of 3!

Wow! Another amazing book from Jen Atkinson. This book came out a while ago and I was excited to read a different type of story from this author.

I enjoyed the mysteriousness and allure of Liam. He was very captivating from the smart. Thankful is smart and kind. As she’s trying to find her place in her senior year of high school, she makes friends (with some ups and downs), but Liam catches her eye. There are rumors surrounding him, and I enjoyed reading that. I appreciated the way the author developed Liam and Thankful’s relationship.

There are some fantastic twists and turns to this story. Liam’s “gift” is very cool and the history behind it (and other things) was very fun to read. When I reached the climax of the book, I had to finish. There is so much more I want to share, but it would spoil it. That being said the “gifts” (or curses) of these characters is page-turning and so creative.

I am excited to see what is next for these characters.

I received an ebook from the author. All views and opinions expressed are my own.

"Bringing his hands down to my waist, he wraps his arms around me and hugs me close and tight. And it's as if any gloom that even considered coming near me melts away when he's holding me."

I really enjoyed this book by Jen Atkinson. It reminded me of the YA romances I loved in high school! It had some serious moments with some adorable teen love mixed in. My favorite part was the unique magic system that Jen incorporated. It was unlike any I've read about before, and I enjoyed diving into a new and unpredictable world. This is a great book to buy the teens in your life (after you read it yourself obviously) because of the wholesome content and character-driven plot.

4/5 stars
TW: parental abandonment, a parent with a life-altering disease, mild violence.

First of all let me just say this book is #1 for my 2024 reads already and I don’t expect it to change anytime soon. I’m anxiously awaiting the next two books because I could have easily binged them all in a couple days.

This story is a sing pov (told from Thankful’s perspective) and a slow burn romance with a twist. I honestly couldn’t stop flipping the pages and wanted to never put this story story down. It is a clean, YA novel that I truly believe anyone could love. It has mystery and twist and turns you don’t expect but you can’t help loving. I would consider this book a romance but it’s not the sole focus of this book which I feel like breathes more life into the trilogy and makes it reach a wider audience.

Absolutely fantastic. Untouched has a storyline like one I've never read before. Atkinson does a phenomenal job of giving enough information to the reader then leaving them with a cliff hanger at every chapter. It's the kind of book you stay up until 2 in the morning to read because you simply cannot put it down. Untouched is a book that covers the whole spectrum: family, acceptance, heartbreak, loss, betrayal, trust and love. In the simplest terms, this book is just outstanding.

Untouched is the first book in a trilogy. It is YA romance with a paranormal element to it. It started off a little slow for me but ended up having great character and plot development that once the story got going it was hard to put down.
It was full of clean romance, plenty of mystery, family issues, high school drama and some great twists and turns. The ending left me looking forward to seeing what happens next!

This book had a serious Twilight-esque paranormal YA romance vibe, minus the love triangle. Liam has a secret and the only person he tolerates at all is the until-recently-home-schooled Thankful, and of course, a love story ensues.

If you want a book with first loves, a diner, secrets, powers, gifts, curses, friends-both good and bad, and a very sweet main couple, check this one out! Plus, its a trilogy so dont miss books 2 and 3.

I have to say I love everything about Liam and his family.

His so called curse of being The Knowing and enemies the Readers, well you just have to think of vampires and werewolves. LOL

Now for Thankful, yes that's her name, she's a pretty extraordinary young lady in so many ways.

I'm looking forward to the next in the Trilogy.

Writing a review as I read:

So far it is very sad. Quite descriptive of the mom’s illness. The friends are quite shallow. Still intrigued by Liam’s family.

I had no idea what I was getting into and I started reading this book, but I’m glad I chose it.

The second half picks up very quickly in the end is crazy. I’m excited to read the next one.

Untouched

This book has so many twists and turns that I didn't even know what to expect, so many surprises. Thankful and Liam have so much chemistry for two high school students. They both are kind of outcasts but drawn together. I need to read the other books to see what will happen next.

While this is definitely a big change from Jen's other books, the one thing that remains consistent is the amazing chemistry she builds between her characters. Not just romantic chemistry either. Her characters' relationships are so honest and relatable. This is going to be a great series!

This was very intriguing from the start! I got into it really quickly mostly because it was enjoyable with likeable characters and I wanted to know what was going on with Liam. Jen Atkinson did a great job keeping me guessing as to what would happen. Surprise at the end that led to a cliffhanger and I had to start the next book almost right away!
