My life is a living nightmare.
Everything that matters to me always gets taken away.
He was only eleven and I still couldn’t protect him.
I won’t let her matter.
The girl with mermaid eyes and flashy red hair.
I won’t be the reason heaven meets hell.

Cooper Daniels just enrolled at Penmore State University because he made a promise to a friend. He had it all planned out. He only had to be at the school for the fall semester and then Cooper would vanish. He’d say goodbye to the fancy college and embrace a lifestyle that was expected of an ex-con. The only problem was Millie.

Camille Monroe, Millie to her friends, has been struggling as a single Mom. However, with the help of her daughter’s grandmother and uncle, she had finally re-enrolled at college and was going after her dreams. She wasn’t going to be distracted by boys, night shifts or a ghost that refused to leave her alone. Nothing was going to tempt her away from a better future, not even the devil himself.

Malorie first started reading romance books when she was twelve years old.

Her mother handed her a copy of Nora Robert’s Midnight Bayou and with resignation said, “Here you’ll love it, just skip the sex scenes.”

It was the only time she ever got to rebel as a kid, because after that day she spent her entire adolescence (and a lot of her adulthood for that matter) sitting inside devouring every romance book ever written.

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

‘FLASH:’ is a standalone in a series of interconnected standalones in Malorie Verdant’s ‘Penmore’ series. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’

In this we meet single mother Camille Monroe aka Millie, she may look like she has her life all mapped out for her on the outside with her model appearance and sassy attitude but on the inside little pieces of herself are slowly crumbling into an abyss as each night when her memories of her fairy tale past that she’d nearly had come knocking night after night as even in sleep she relives memories of some of the most happiest to saddest times of her life.

Enter nineteen year old Cooper Daniels who is also attending Penmore State University on the back of a promise he made to a close friend. But things here are not what they seem, twists and turns that I never saw coming kept me racing through the pages to see how it was all going to end.

Slowly he knocks down Millie's walls, there are swoon worthy moments as he becomes her knight in shining armour as he protects and cares for her and her daughter and those around her. I loved his character, especially seeing him rise above, from his past to his present.

Even though it’s been a while since I read book#1 and I’ve forgotten what it was about this is easy enough to get into and follow the plot without having to read the first book within the series.
I really enjoyed this one so much, the too and fro from these two, the angst, the feels, god the feels this threw my way stampeded on my heart, each page pulled me in deeper and deeper. The characters were surreal and easy to connect with on all levels.

Amy's Review

Millie was tough as nails, she had to be with the what life had dealt her.  Her determination and strength endeared her to me quickly.  I had been waiting to hear her story since finishing Stars and it didn't disappoint!

Cooper was something else, a hero you don't usually see, he life was spent straddling the line of good and bad.  He could have gone either way.  I needed Millie to be his saving grace.  His saving reward for powering through a life that most would never dream of having to live.

This book was filled with so many highs and lows that spanned all the emotional spectrums.  It made you laugh, cry, angry, determined, and hope.  It filled you with so much hope.  It had the right amount of drama and romance with a some angst thrown in to make things interesting.

I loved that we got to reconnect with characters that we loved from Stars and that we got a little bit more of their story.  Parker and Gray are characters that have stuck with me long after I finished their story so getting them back was just the cherry  on top of this fantastic story.

description

Cooper Daniels is an ex-con. After spending two years behind bars, he has a promise to a friend to uphold. One semester at Penmore University, and he'll disappear and live the life expected of an ex-con.

Camille Monroe, or Millie, is a single mom who struggles. Thanks to her little girls grandmother and uncle, she can attend school and work at night. She has her sights set on success, and refuses to be distracted by anything, even hot guys.

When Cooper and Millie meet, she's working nights as a burlesque dancer. Of course they both have secrets, and there's the matter of the promise he's made, but sparks fly when they're together. Their relationship was more of a slow build rather than hot and fast. I loved Cooper's protective side when he found out about Millie's situation. Trust was very difficult for Cooper due to his past and Millie was good for him. I loved the banter between the pair, and how his feelings towards Millie allowed him to trust and believe he could be something more than he ever imagined.

Overall I enjoyed reading this book. My first by this author, it won't be my last. It was slightly angsty, but it didn't feel overdone. While I was hoping for something a little more in the end, it was enough to keep me intrigued throughout.

This is second book in the Penmore series, but it was my first read in this series as well as the author, Malorie Verdant. I was able to jump right in to this book and had no issues following along. This book is told in dual point of view with a happily ever after, which is my favorite. This was a great book, it wasn't predictable at all, but had all the elements of a beautiful romance with fully characters that were great additions to the story.

Cooper Daniels has worked hard to get into Penmore, and especially hard to be a walk on for the football team. Something other than success is driving Cooper. I don't want to tell anymore than that because its such a crucial part of the entire story. I instantly connected with Cooper, he is such a beautiful person in spite of everything this world has given him, or not given him. Millie is the only thing Cooper has ever wanted and he'll give everything up and her to make sure she's safe.

This is such a great book. I really connected with the characters and story line it was complex and detailed, a beautiful love story with just the right amount of drama and swoon worthy moments. I will definitely read more by Ms. Verdant.

I hate to admit that this book was sitting on my shelf waiting to be read for way to long.

I really enjoyed it. I loved watching Millie/Flash and Cooper grow as people and both accepting that family isn't always blood.

Cooper Daniels, 19, is not a fan of the words family and home after growing up in foster care and spending the past two years in jail. Now out he is trying to make something of himself while attending college and playing football.
Camille “Millie” Monroe is 21 and a single mother to Jessie. She relies on Tahnee, Jessie’s grandma, for help as she attends college and works to support them. At night Millie works as a Burlesque dancer to make ends meet.
When Cooper and Millie meet sparks fly in all directions and Cooper becomes very protective over Millie who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Gradually Cooper is able to wear down Millie’s defenses and the two begin to get close.
But Cooper has a secret and when he begins to put everything together he realizes he may be being played. Will Cooper learn to trust those around him in order to protect those he cares about?
This was a great book that kept you interested from start to finish with some great twists that made you double think a few things.
Cooper did not have an easy go growing up but he had a close bond with Jake but when a tragedy strikes Cooper finds himself in jail. In jail Cooper meets Anthony Waters and the two become close and when Cooper gets out of jail he needs to do something for Anthony.
Millie herself had a good life until she found herself pregnant and on her own until Tahnee stepped in and helped her out as well as her best friend Parker and her boyfriend Grayson who is Tahnee’s other son.
I loved the relationship between Cooper and Millie and how they went from almost enemies into friends which slowly evolved into more. That allowed Cooper to see things in a different light but he had to be able to trust which was so hard for him!
The end was so awesome but then all of a sudden I freaked out when I realized things did not go as planned and I wondered what the heck happened!!
I loved how this one ended and I really hope we get more from these characters again! - Rebecca

** Note: I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. **

To be honest, I really liked the cover because it reminded me of Jessica Rabbit (and I loved that movie as a kid). Ironically, there is a Jessica reference made in the book. The cover is what drew me to the book over the blurb this time.

This is book two of the series but can be read as a standalone. The characters do seem to be intertwined though. The main characters from book one appear in this book as supporting characters.

The story started a little slow for me that I was scared I wasn’t even going to like it. I loved the banter between our hero and heroine; they are both stubborn and strong willed. Their chemistry is amazing and there were times I wanted to argue with Cooper and Millie about how they were acting. When the story picked up speed, I couldn’t put my kindle down; I had to know what happened next.

From the beginning, I had questions based on the vague statements of the hero and heroine. Many of these questions were answered as the story went on. I think I may have one or two minor questions but they may be answered in book one, which I have not read. Even with these semi-unanswered questions, the story still flowed well.

I hope there are several more books in this series because there are a few characters from this book that I hope get their own story.

Flash by Malorie Verdant. This was a first time read for me by author Malorie Verdant. Flash is the second book in the Pennmore book series and can be read as a standalone read. This book is really a great, passionate, and a page turner my eyes were glued. I could not put this book down! Flash is the story about Cooper Daniels, and Camille Monroe. Cooper and Camille are both students of Penmore State University. Cooper had it all planned out. He would be at school for the fall semester, and then would leave town for good. Cooper had to leave college, and embrace a lifestyle change of as an ex-con. That is when he meet Millie also known as Camille Monroe. Millie has been struggling as a single Mom, with the help of her family she was able to re-enroll to college. Millie was not going to let anything get in the way of her pursing her dreams, not even Cooper himself was going to distract her. She wanted a better future for her and her daughter. The chemistry between Cooper and Millie was amazing. Every scene with them kept me hoping that they would end up happily ever after. I was really able to connect with each character in this book. I Definitely would recommended to anyone interested in a great love story.

Cooper Daniels has enrolled in Penmore but he has an agenda. He does not expect much for his future as an ex-con but he has made a promise. He just needs to stick it out and exact a little revenge for his cellmate. It is not long before he sets his sights on Millie. This complicates his agenda when he realizes how all the players are connected. Does he move forward with his plan or call it off?

Millie is a struggling single mom. Finally, back in school she is determined to give her daughter a dream life. She is working her tail off to save money and complete school. Cooper is not interested in a relationship. He thinks Millie is a pampered princess. However, he soon discovers Millie’s night job and that she is a single mom. His protective instincts kick in and he wants to help her. Despite not feeling like he is not good enough for Millie, he pursues her.

I really liked Millie and Cooper. Millie learns to let go of her old ghosts and trust in someone. Cooper learns that he does have a lot to offer. Flashhas just the right amount of angst and the banter was fun. I hope we get more books in this series.

This is a first for me, a book that I struggled to finish. It took me longer that I had hoped to get into the story, finding myself putting down my kindle on a couple of occasions. However, I still enjoyed the book once I was able to find a connection with the main characters.

I enjoyed Cooper’s determination not to go back to prison, to make his life a success. I adored his protectiveness over Millie and her daughter, it showcased the man he truly is and ultimately restores my belief that everyone deserves a second chance.

Millie has a strength that I admired. Her belief in making her life meaningful and also providing a balanced and loving life to her daughter was beautiful to read. You could feel the love she had for her child. Of course, the chemistry that she had with Cooper was sizzling.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and I would recommend to other readers to take a chance, you may enjoy it a lot more than I did. Its certainly worth a read.

This was my first book by Malorie Verdant and I'm in love. Millie is a sassy girl that's not afraid to say what she thinks. Cooper is really cocky but let's face it he has good reason to be that way. The banter between these two had me laughing out loud and that always make for a great book.

This was the first book I had read from this author and I found it very enjoyable. The first half of the book moved a little slow for me, but the second half flowed much better, once it got deeper into the plot. I really thought Cooper and Millie were great together and had wonderful chemistry. Looking forward to going back and reading the first book in the series, learning about the other characters mentioned and seeing where it all began.
