Born John Wilson in London, Paramananda was curious about Asian ideas but it was not until the death of his father that his interest in Buddhism was aroused. Ordained in the Western Buddhist Order in 1985, he has been teaching meditation, Buddhism and body awareness full-time in San Francisco and London since then.

This book was perfect for filling in the gaps of my meditation practice.

Reading about the practicalities such as the hindrances and how to overcome them, details about loving kindness and tips were very useful.

I found this book at a thrift store right about the time I started a meditation practice. it is the best book on meditation I've read, and there's been many. full of practical advice and down to earth, I highly recommend this book. I've read it over and over again for more than a decade.

My criteria for 5 stars is I’d read it again.

Had to read slowly. Really helped me with my meditation practice and especially reading it before bed helped me sleep.
