WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES a quiet seaside village, sixteen-year-old Leah Godfrey must say good-bye to her childhood home. Charged with protecting a satchel of cryptic evidence, she embarks on a quest to uncover the motive behind a brutal murder.

It won't be easy; the corrupt militia captain will stop at nothing to destroy the evidence, and a mysterious tracker is on Leah's trail, hunting her deeper into the wilderness with each footstep. Only Cain Forester, a young hunter obsessed with his own vengeful mission, can guide her to safety.

But the kingdom of Tora Danya is bigger than Leah realizes, and far more ancient. As she and Cain find themselves swept into a storm of dark schemes and religious fanaticism, they learn that time hides unexpected mysteries, and that truth is not always kind...

"Changing Tides" is the first chapter of "Time And Tide", the epic tale of a land whose present is haunted by a forgotten past.

The life-giving forces in my life are literature and music.

Regarding literature, I’ve always had a deep passion for classical mythology, especially Greek, Nordic, and Egyptian. I’m also fascinated by aspects of Hindu mysticism, Western theology, and Far Eastern philosophy.

Musically, I’m very eclectic. I appreciate many forms of rock, classical, jazz, and world music, even if much of my attention is usually focused on exploring all the bizarre and creative forms of metal.

Human psychology is another interest I’ve long had, and it plays a big role in everything I write. Most of my stories are character-driven.

I’m fascinated by nature and animals. On the rare occasions when I write poetry, it’s usually either about nature or some emotional turmoil that I’ve witnessed in myself or someone else.

I also enjoy hiking, baseball, and computer games.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Changing Tides is an interesting excursion into a high fantasy world. A young girl is thrust into a strange and dangerous world which for she is woefully under equipped and finds herself being forged by it. The story is a little bit of a slow burn for me; it seems to take a long time to get started but when it did it hit the ground running.

Feldman does a fantastic job of world building. There is a lot of detail about places and history, but strangely I didn’t feel that this was being forced upon me as the reader. Instead I found that I was experiencing the world through the eyes of Leah, the primary protagonist of the story; as she discovered details of her world, so did I.

There are two primary characters in the book with many side players. The two primary characters seem to be deeply flawed, which somewhat distanced me from them. Admittedly this is a sort of ‘coming of age’ story, so the slightly confused actions of Leah can sometimes be excused as youthful exuberance, but her constant bad decisions did become grating. The ‘hero’ of the story, Cain, seems to be suffering from the same problem however, and he is described as an able and capable outdoorsman.

The overarching plot of the book is interspersed with a significant number of subplots. I was a little disappointed that so much was left open to the next book; there quite a few of the major plot elements that are not anywhere near wrapped up by the end of the book. This meant that I just didn’t get the satisfying sense of closure that comes with finishing a book, and this has impacted on my scoring of this book. There are a fair few twists and turns on the way to finish, some of which were totally out of the blue. I do like a book which keeps me guessing and this book opens up many questions for it’s characters to delve into.

The book does a good job of opening philosophical thought about the nature of gods and how people view the world around them. The book also delves into some quite uncomfortable topics in a very well written way. While not a life changing book, it certainly held my attention for the duration and has given me few things to ruminate on.

Overall, I have given this book 3.9 stars, so a solid book which is worth picking up. Be warned though, there is smattering of highly graphic violence, some overt sexual content, and a little bit of bad language.

Fantasy is in the mind of the reader as well as the author and although it is not my favorite genre, Mr. Feldman avoids what I consider the cliches of fantasy and has written an interesting book. There are no elves, ogres, or fairies which is refreshing. The story takes place in a fictional world and, in a way, I was expecting to find out if the inhabitants were refugees from some future Earth.
Since this is Part 1 of what I presume will be a trilogy, I could be right but for now Part 1 is a story that presents the characters in a well-developed manner and causes the reader to be deeply involved in the story. The first day I started reading it, I read over half of the book. I will be interested in reading future remaining books in this series by Mr. Feldman since I admire his writing style and his character development. I highly recommend this book to not only sci fi and fantasy fans, but to anyone interested in a good story line.

Time and Tide, Book 1: Changing Tides by Seth A. Feldman. Feldman creates a new world to delve into. We have a sixteen-year-old girl that must leave home, do to no fault of her own, and is drawn into a quest. She and her companion travel this new land, a land she is not familiar with to find a man who may help them. There are no heroes in the book, except for the human initiative.

I loved the fact that the characters seemed real, each had their good points and bad points, which also makes for the well-rounded character(s). Feldman is descriptive in this journey, some may not like that, but I enjoyed seeing the country that no one has seen before.

Of course, there are bad guys and women, and they are not typical villains. These are worst of the bad, in a kingdom of waning peace. Feldman brings it all to life and makes you want more. There are some blood and guts, and things that will wrench your heart, but actually it is pretty mild violence. There were a few vulgar words in it, but nothing to harm or detract from the story. I think they could have been left out, and personally, I would have, just to get a wider audience. I did not see any humor in the book, but all the other human emotions are there.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, created for 16 and up. For those that like to live on the edge of fantasy and nightmares, this is a book, not only for you but for the masses. – Remmy Meggs 2018 remmymeggs dot com

Changing Tides is an excellent introduction to Seth A. Feldman's fantasy adventure series Time and Tide.

What I love about this book is Feldman's careful attention to the development of multiple plots, each of which serves a different purpose. When we set out on our journey we have only a single problem to attend to, but as the story proceeds we discover that each of the main characters has his or her own personal mystery that needs solving. Meanwhile, the people they come into contact with on their way all have their own problems, and at times they erupt and spill all over the paths of our heroes at the least opportune times. Each of these issues feels like part of a living, breathing, intertwined world, and while some are resolved in the course of this book, many remain to be dealt with in the books to come.

The short plots are exciting, and the long ones are intriguing. I'm eager for the second installment so that I can find out what happens next.

Time and Tide is an intriguing fantasy tale of a young girl and how she is forced to leave her childhood and innocence behind. The book holds many mysteries from the past times, but in this book, the reader gets only some glimpses of what is yet to come in this tale. The reader gets sucked into the story when the author reveals new plotlines and events layer by layer.

The descriptions are vivid and paint a picture of a fantasy world, where religious groups stir the world, and where mysteries are hidden.

I especially enjoyed the characters and how the author has made them relatable. They have multiple shades and inner fights like all of us. The relationships between different characters are evolving nicely. There are murders and secrets to be solved, and I can't wait to find out what Leah will discover about her past and things to come in the next book!

Changing Tides (Time and Tide #1) is a strong start for Feldman's newest release. On the heels the of the heartfelt and intense YA novel, Jackie, comes Feldman's first published novel. Following the young Leah as she embarks on an epic quest to make sense of her father's death, Changing Tides provides a vivid new world with a rich history and mythology, and I can't wait to see where the second novel takes me. Feldman is clearly influenced and well versed in the classics of fantasy, invoking the spirit of Tolkien, Rothfuss, and the like.
