Maria I was trapped. There was nothing left of me. Then he came and wanted to make me his. He saved me. He gave me a home, a family. He made sweet love to me. I was his Angel. He was my everything. I thought we would live happily ever after, but there are no happy endings in the mafia life. I found this out the hard way, as the blood flowed, red as roses... Lyov Angel. The word meant nothing until I saw her. I found her in a place worse than hell. She calls me her savior. But I didn't save her. I captured the pretty angel and made her mine. Life was perfect. I had everything I wanted. I was her salvation. She was my redemption. Until I lost her. Angels deserve happy endings, but monsters like me don't. My darkness became hers, and our happily-ever-after became tainted.
Author of The Mafia and His Angel. Creator of Alessio Ivanshov and Aylessio.
Reading is her first love and always will be. Writing is her passion. She writes because the voices in her head won't stop and because they deserve to be heard and read. Lylah James writes about drool worthy and total alpha males, with strong and sweet heroines. She makes her readers cry - sob their eyes out, swoon, curse, rage and fall in love. Mostly known as the Queen of cliffhanger and the #evilauthorwithablacksoul, she likes to break her readers' hearts and then mend them again.
She uses all her spare time to write. If she is not studying, sleeping, writing or working - she can found with her nose buried in a good romance book, preferably with a hot alpha male.
"I thought we would live happily ever after. But there were no happy endings in this life. I found out the hard way, as the blood flowed red, red as roses..."
I'm not going to lie to you. I dreaded reading this book. Not because I thought it would be bad, but because I assumed it would break my heart. I was right. It did, but it was part of the overall picture that I needed to experience, and for that reason, I'm glad I didn't chicken out.
Maria was such an influence on Alessio's life that I'm glad the author decides to tell her story. I knew she didn't live long. I knew she would meet a tragic end, but that doesn't make her story any less meaningful. If anything, it made it even more so.
Lyov was never the same after Maria met her demise, so I wanted to see him before that tragic night. I wanted to see him in love, and I got that, too. Though their life together began in an unconventional way, nobody would call what was between them anything but unconditional love.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much Lena we got in this book, and I enjoyed learning more about her in her younger years. I loved seeing Lena and Maria as friends and watching her in love with Boris. My heart broke for her just as much as Lyov in this book. She may not have been the main character, but your heart would have to be made of stone not to feel deeply for her.
In other words, the author met all my expectations. I was captivated from the moment the story began, and I flew through it in no time! Flipping through the pages like crazy and reading as fast as I possibly could, I practically devoured the last half of the book. I needed to see exactly what happened that night! When I finally got to it, it was just as horrific as I expected. I fought back tears the whole time I read it. Lylah did not pull any punches, folks. Be prepared!
Blood and Roses is the steamy, sweet, emotional, and tragic tale of Maria and Lyov's love from beginning to end. I guess I shouldn't say end, because a love like that never really ends. Does it?
"Love stories like ours didn't have endings. It lived on forever. As beautiful and as flawed as it was. Until we meet again, Angel."
If you have read the Tainted Hearts series up to this point, this is a must read!
Title: Blood and Roses (Tainted Hearts #3.5) Author: Lylah James Genre: Romance, Dark Publication Date: February 27th 2018
I knew it was going to happen... I mean, I am obsessed with the Tainted Series for crying out loud! I knew the end game...I knew my heart was going break. I knew it was going to be painful to read it from Lyov and Marie's point of view but I had to read it.
I felt this deep sense of melancholia while I was reading this book. And as stupid as it sounds, I was seriously hoping somewhere...somehow, Lylah James would change the plot and spare us from this impending doom of irrevocable sadness. Lylah, I hate you for writing this book. I love you for writing this book. You are a cruel, cruel, cruel woman for making me weep but an Angel for writing this beautiful love story.
Blood and Roses is the story of Maria and Lyov, Alessio's parents. Their love stories rivals that of Alessio and Aylah but unlike them, Lyov and Maria's love story does not have a happy ending. Words would not be enough to express the love these two shared (Romeo and Juliet, Who?). It is passionate and intense, powerful and gentle, addictive and compulsive.
Maria and Lyov's story is beautiful and heartbreaking... Their chemistry is intense. Their love story starts off unconventional but it is a story that is packed with heavenly, blissful chemistry that is seriously sensual yet gentle and kind. I have said it before and I will say it again, I love this series and I love Blood and Roses.
This story is what all love stories are meant to be... a beautiful tragedy.
I highly highly highly recommend this book! I hope you give the Ivanshov's family a try because this family will make you fall in love with them!
Its 8 am right now and i feel like to cry, just finished reading this masterpiece and i am not okay. I didnt like mafia and his angel but i was intrigued by Maria’s story because i knew its gonna be heartbreaking...and it is. I really dont know what to say, even tho it was wayyyyy to sweet for a mafia book, i loved it. The ending was so emotional, so painful to read. I felt so bad for Lyov that i just wanted Maria to come back. Ugh why did she have to die!!!
The begging was perfection, the ending was perfection i loved everything about Maria and Lyov’s relationships. They were so cute and i want a happily ever after for them. Their story is heartbreakingly beautiful. Ugh!!! Even tho i legit loved this book, i am not gonna ignore the fact that it was too sweet which made it unrealistic and when they were “happy” i couldnt take it seriously, even if i kept smiling throughout their journey. I have read many mafia books where it showed that bratva is the most cruelest mafia gang, i had more expectations that if there is a book where the hero is a bratva leader, he ll be dangerous and dark but Lyov and his son who is the hero of mafia and his angels were all sunshine and roses. However, i am still gonna blame this book for making me cry. I need more Maria and Lyov, they are so precious.
Though I knew the outcome of Lyov and Maria’s love story..... IT STILL FUCKING HURTS. This novella is tragic yet beautifully told. Lyov is more mellow than his son, Alessio but he inherited his father's sweetness. The guy may be feared among men but he's a great lover and loyal to his family. I don't know how my heart survived reading this.
I read this book because a friend asked me. I have never read any books in the Tainted Hearts series, nor have I read a book by Lylah James before. I read this one because a friend said that this book would be too emotional to read alone. That the story of Lyov and Maria is one who's end she already knew (having read the rest of the books in the series) & which would leave her heartbroken. And boy did it ever. Even though I knew how this book must end, it still did not prepare me for what was coming. It did not prepare me for the depth of emotion I would experience. For the rollercoaster ride it would take me on. For the shattered heart it would leave me with. Despite it's heartbreaking end , the story grips you and pulls you in. Every moment of joy, sorrow, and happiness, you share with Maria & Lyov. Every moment of pain is like a knife stabbing your heart. And every tear you shed, you shed for someone you lost. And it's too freaking much. Lyov said it the best: “I don’t want to let you go, Angel. I…can’t. Fuck, I just can’t…I can’t…live…I can’t…breathe,” and boy was he right. Read this book at your own peril. Cause I can't promise you anything other than a broken heart and a shattered soul by the time you're done.
⭐️ 5 "Touched by an Angel" Stars ⭐️ I just finished Blood and Roses and I'm a mess! I was expecting heartbreak from this book, but Lyov and Maria's story touched me in such a powerful way! That ending was foreseen, but so devastating, brutal and bittersweet! I was really intrigued about the patriarch of the Ivanshov clan and was pleasantly surprised by his story and it made me understand his actions from the previous novels more. Lyov’s love for Maria was instant and ensnaring! Such a formidable, alpha male brought to his knew by a slave. I wasn’t anticipating their beginning, but it surely brought a certain darkness and allure to their story. Blood and Roses was incredibly romantic, sensual and poignant! I cried my eyes out over this doomed couple, but also felt blissful happiness over their tragic romance! Lylah James once again used her poetic and stunning prose to enthrall me! An unforgettable love story, without the typical happily ever after, but still so breathtaking!
⚜Rate: ★★★★★
English: "Blood and Roses" by Lylah James is part of the "Tainted Hearts " series. It' s a dark romance that continues in the same way as previous books, with mafia bosses and therefore a dark and perverse world. You must read the three previous books to be able to read this one. This book is full of emotions, pain, besides the love that was in the previous ones.
Lyov Ivanshov is the king of the Russian family, but he didn't expect Maria, a young woman who was kidnapped and kept prisoner by human traffickers, take his breath away. That's why he will take her out of the world he controls. Maria will give herself to Lyov and come out of her worst nightmare to finally find love after so much pain and misery.
Lyov and Maria are Alessio's parents. From the beginning, I knew I was going to cry, but it was very hard, I didn't expect it to be this way. You can see a lot of Alessio's characteristics in Lyov. Maria is a survivor in a dark world, saved by Lyov, a world that belongs to him. Knowing Alessio's story, I knew how it would end, but I still couldn't avoid the tears of despair. Thanks to this book, we know the story of Alessio's parents, how they met and fell in love. Also, the world that Lyov was in and how he isolated himself at the end. A unique love in a dark world. If you fell in love with Alessio, you would fall in love with Lyov. In previous books, Alya had Madie who helped her in this crazy world, in this Lena, Madie's mother is the one who shares all her confidences with Maria. This book is so emotional that even as I write the review I'm crying. ⚜Rate: ★★★★★
I hope to not cry writing this review, but it will be really hard not to. Let's take a step back when Lyov meets Maria for the first time. Their story should be a fairy tale. Love always should give and not take everything. I have no words to tell you what Blood & roses is. First comes the roses with all their beauty and intensity and then fate decide to rip off the petals. Deciding that the thorns have to prevail. And that's when comes the blood with all its devastating power. It has no mercy. It never looks back, it takes everything. But it can't break the bond between these two hearts. Never! ( I told you I'll cry ). When you love someone you'll feel it deep inside. And that person will be with you for eternity, even if you can touch or hear her anymore, she will always live in your heart be right next to you like a little angel intending to look after you and guide you like a star in the darkness. A love like they HAVE never die. But love sometimes is cruel is like those thorns.and you can do nothing, because it's the same love which made your heart beat faster, it's the same love who will break it in million pieces. But there is the beautiful side of love too, memories nobody can take away. Memories of a time when Lyov loved and has been loved. Moments when he would shoot the moon, put out the sun to make his Maria happy. Moments when her voice was his favorite sound. A time where love made them a promise. A time when they believed it. But love is also sacrifice. You give it everything you got and you won't think twice You'd risk it all, no matter what may come. That's what love asked Maria to and she had no doubts to make her (right) choice for her lover. So Blood and roses is a teerjeker masterpiece. Lyov will remind you so much of his son. And Maria will mell your heart with her sweetness and devotion. An advance: be sure to have some tissues next to you, because you'll use them all! I can't end this heartbreaking review without a word to this DARK GENIUS of Lylah. I called it my Lyladdiction. Because when you read such a blowing mind dark love story, you can't live without it. Lylah is perfect in all and for all. There were moments when I was speechless by her perfect style. It's like she got the pieces of a puzzle and with her magical touch that comes naturally and effortless for her she's able to put them in the right place and create a dark fairy tale.
This book will gut you, let’s just make that clear now. It will punch you right in the feels. If you’ve read the series, you know what’s coming... but not the whole story, and not from Lyov and Maria’s points of view. I just LOVE them. I got to know these characters, experience their epic love, and feel their brutal heartbreak. It’s tragic. It’s beautiful. Truly fantastic writing from Lylah James, as always. Life doesn’t always have a happy ending, and sometimes those tales are the ones worth telling. I will never forget Lyov and Maria’s story. If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend starting with The Mafia and His Angel, Part 1, even though this book technically does comes first chronologically. This series is incredible, and I can’t wait for more!
Blood and Roses is book.3.5 in the tainted hearts series. This book contains triggers and is Not for safe readers.
This is Lyov's and Maria aka Angels story so it's like a prequel to the Mafia and his Angel.
Let me just start of by saying that in order to prepare for this book, i suggest keeping a box of tissues handy and alcohol near by. I was a blubbering mess reading certain parts of this book.
This book broke my heart, it's was gut wrenching yet beautiful at the same time.
This book captures you from the very beginning, it reels you in and takes you on this heartbreaking journey that is Lyov and Maria his Angel.
We learn about how they both met, that beautiful path that was full of Blood and Roses, He is the King and she is his Queen. The love they have for one another was truely beautiful. They are perfectly imperfect, until that cruel game of fate brought darkness apon them.
Lylah has surpassed my expectations with this book and delivered a phenomenal read.
I was trapped. There was nothing left of me. Then he came and wanted to make me his. He saved me. He gave me a home, a family. He made sweet love to me. I was his Angel. He was my everything. I thought we would live happily ever after, but there are no happy endings in the mafia life. I found this out the hard way, as the blood flowed, red as roses…
Lyov
Angel. The word meant nothing until I saw her. I found her in a place worse than hell. She calls me her savior. But I didn’t save her. I captured the pretty angel and made her mine. Life was perfect. I had everything I wanted. I was her salvation. She was my redemption. Until I lost her. Angels deserve happy endings, but monsters like me don’t. *** ARC GENEROUSLY PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW ***
3.5 Stars . This story is about Lyov and Maria. . Lyov is the King. He is a bad guy with a big heart. And that was true. He had a very big heart and he was an absolute softy for Maria. . Maria was a slave. But Lyov saves her and all she wants to do is make him happy. Maria is very sweet and has given herself to Lyov..!! . We all know how this story ends. Not all people get a happily ever after. Some have to live the pain. I truly wished that Maria was secretly saved and something like that could happen. But well, people die. It's how you lived, that is important. . For however long that Maria and Lyov were together, they were Great. And that's what counts.
This book crushed me, in the best possible way. B&R is Maria and Lyov’s much awaited story! Even though fans of the series knew how their story would end ... I was DYING for the chance to follow their journey.
I cupped Lyon's face in my hands. "What did I do to deserve you?" "I ask myself the same question every day, Angel. Pretty ironic, isn't it?"
The book hangover is so very real after turning the last page of this book. It’s a doozy! But I find myself, once again, baffled by Lylah’s ability to capture her readers. Characters in the Tainted Hearts Series are impossible not to love. Blood and Roses is dark, twisted, steamy & heartbreaking. I can’t recommend this book & series enough!!
Wow, I knew how this story ended, I knew I was going to be heartbroken, I knew I was hesitant to read this, but lyov & maria deserve to have their story read. Even as heartbreaking as their love story is, it was truly amazing to read their love story. They meet under interesting circumstances, but watching their love develop is so incredible. Do not let the end of their love story scare you, you need to experience it. I saw so much of alessio in lyov, it was beautiful. Perfection in writing lylah. Can’t wait for more.
It’s heading onto 3 am here in Australia. My eyes are puffy, my heart is racing & I’m pretty sure I’ve smoked half a pack of cigs because I just finished Blood and Roses by Lylah James 😭. I have no words. If you’ve kept up with her books you’ll know how Blood and Roses ends. This is Lyov and Maria's story. I’ve had it for awhile but I purposely avoided it for this exact reason. It’s such a beautifully written, beautifully tragic love story & I don’t know how I’m meant to go on with life.
The thing about this author is that her words have the ability to consume you from the very first page. Since I started reading her books, I've never doubted her ability to write. I was doubting myself and not being able to handle the pain I knew was coming. I don't know how to write this review without spoiling it for new readers but it's a devastating read that has me up all night and the tears unable to be contained. Fuck, how I cried. I cried non-stop and I'm crying right now writing this review.
Lyov is the King of the Underworld and finds his Angel, Maria, unexpectedly in a dark place. She's not his to own, but from the moment he laid eyes on her, he knew he had to have her. He took her, he saved her from her & in the end, they possessed each other. They complimented each other and they fit perfectly together. Their story isn't for the faint-hearted, it will destroy you. It will reach into your chest and rip your heart out, crushing it into a million pieces and you will NEVER RECOVER FROM IT.
Go in with a box of tissues and an open mind. It's a story that you'll never forget. Lyov and Maria own so much of my heart right now, I don't think I want it back. This book has a little bit of everything in it, I don't think there will be anyone who will hate it. And if there is, they can get lost because obviously, they aren't reading the same book as I am. Holy fuck, pick up this book, I'm begging you. You don't even have to read the other books, you can read it as a standalone, but MY GOD, this story will change your life!
{I received this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review}
“Blood and Roses” is a love story for the ages! It is so tragically Beautiful! Going into this I knew the outcome. I knew that Lyov and Maria will not get their happily ever after. Honestly I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do! I don’t like books that don’t have a happily ever after but this was AMAZING!! I knew that I was gonna like it because I love Lylah and her writing but I ended up LOVING IT with all my heart! I was prepared for the heart break what I wasn’t prepared for was Maria and Lyov stealing my heart! This couple is everything!! God I am so in love with them! Their story is one of heartbreak but it is also one of finding true love and never letting go! Lyov and Maria are an amazing beautiful couple!
“I didn’t know souls had lips. For right now, just like his lips were kissing mine- ours souls met, and they kissed so beautifully.”
You guys HAVE to read this! I know that it’s sad and will probably break your heart like it broke mine but you still HAVE to read it! It is truly wonderful. This love story is beautiful and tragic and so amazing!!! This couple is so unique and so special. They took me by surprise and I am so freaking happy that I read this!! Lylah has written a beautiful story that I will always love!! Lyov and Maria are a couple that will always have a special place in my heart! I am so in LOVE with this book and this amazing couple! READ IT NOW I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO! (Pushes you to read it)
“After all, I didn’t want a knight, for their armor would eventually grow rusty. No, I preferred the beast. For he would always protect me with his sharp claws.”
{You have to read The Mafia and His Angel 1-3 before reading this one}
"His love for me. My love for him. Our love. My heart only wanted one thing. My heart only had one thought. One need. Despite everything I could have, all my heart ever wanted was Lyov."
A love story for the ages, regardless of outcome, it was deeply felt in my bones, my heart, my soul!! The Author graced us with a timeless, heart-wrenching, and beautiful once-in-a-lifetime love that shattered me in weepy little pieces, yet left me with a smile. Lyov and Maria made the most of their short time in reaching what most of us only yearn to have, and it was magical. The tears I cried while reading this were so bittersweet, but needed to happen. We knew what we were getting into from reading the previous books, but I was completely unprepared for the sweetness, the romance, the pull of these two. It was superbly written, and one not soon forgotten. Their story will stay with me for a long while after reading. I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!
"My dark, angry Prince Charming had come on his black horse. He had swept me up, saved me, and dragged me into his violent world, where I planted roses and made them bloom with every breath I took. It was a twisted fairytale, with a beauty within the thorns."
We go back into the past in this book. This is Lyov and Maria's story. We heard about her death from Alessio when he was a young child. He grew up and got his revenge. Maybe not exactly how he wanted it but he got it. This tell's of how Lyov and Maria met and what they had to go through to get to their fairy tail. She also went through hell and back. Lyov really loved her and she him but sometimes you don't get your forever. This is a heart breaking tale. Adults only please
Once again Lylah does not disappoint with her wicked mafia storyline. I've been following this series and am so in love with this authors words. She definitely brings the intrigue and tension, along with the steam to every page.
Her characters draw you into their world, keeping you captive and offering you bit by bit of deliciousness as you keep reading.
Thank you Lylah for Lyov and Maria's beautiful story!! Even though I knew how it would end, it didn't stop the ugly crying from happening. Their love, even though somewhat brief, was epic. Their souls were meant for each other.
I'm upset. Well, I should've known how this story would end tho, since I've read 3 firsts tainted hearts books where the story of Alessio and Ayla were told. But I read those books years ago, I don't remember what happen in those books. I didn't even know this book told the story of his parents. Throughout the story and till the point where Alessio was born, I was a bit suspicious. I was like 'hmm.. I think I've read about an Alessio in the first 3 instalments of this series, right?' and I was right. Al's book got tons of trigger and pet peeves of mine, whether years ago I was less pickier, or I was making exceptions because those books were good, despite those triggers that I hate in books that I would never pick up and read. I almost forgot this author was not scared of upsetting her readers, well, maybe only me, since I was stupid enough to not read the comments for this book.
Things that I hate in this book. 1. Triggers about human trafficking and several women being abused horrifically 2. Some plot holes that was a bit distracting 3. Some important events being skipped (marriage, the first time her pregnancy revealed) 4. The lack of happy ending between two MCs 5. DEATH
Things that I like in this book. 1. I'll be honest here and say I adore sweet, innocent borderline naive heroines, damsel in distress types with super possessive alpha male being the protector. I'm all about equal rights between genders and positive feminism in real life, but books are my escapism. It's good to imagine someone loving me to the point they couldn't f-ing breathe if they lost me. lmao but idk whether I want an overbearing alpha male in my life since I HATE being controlled 2. I like how Lyov was sweet yet hard alpha. He never hurt heroine outside bedroom (where it's always contentious on both parties and she wasn't bruised heavily and she wasn't feeling like a whor* for wanting to be used and controlled, then, he never made her feel that way) 3. Marriage and baby almost babies in here although the scenes were short ones and not described thoroughly 4. No r*pe scenes towards Maria, unlike Ayla 5. The death of Maria was bittersweet, she remembered every sweet words that Lyov uttered to her, every promises and all before she was gone
Ugh, I hate sad endings, that's why almost all books I've read got happy fcking ending. Some books were inconclusive whether it was happy ending or not but this one was a blatant slap in the face sad ending. H A T E T H E E N D I N G. But once again, a bittersweet one. At least Maria got her short happy story.

So since I read The Mafia and His Angel I already know the outcome of this book, HOWEVER, I was not ready for the way this book was going to make me feel. Also, I thought that Maria and Lyov were going to be a cute story that we hear from older couples but NOPE, Lylah came to serve us with this book. The steaminess in this book was something that I didn’t see coming but Maria and Lyov as a couple just gave me all the feels. I didn’t know what to expect with this book because I didn’t read the synopsis and just jumped into the book and I had no regrets reading it. I felt so many different emotions and it was such a nice read.
Although this book is part of the Tainted Hearts series, I really enjoyed that this story really holds up on its own. I was expecting for the story to be kind of similar with TMAHA but it really told its own story and I think that’s the greatest part about Lylah James. That she can make a series but each story holds for itself and that they won’t be same and, it’s truly something different from what I’ve read before.
While I want to dive into writing this review right now, I can't. I simply can't. I need to collect myself first. My heart is bleeding. Tears are still rolling down my cheeks. I'm trying to process.
I will be back to leave Lylah the review she deserves for this masterpiece.
Developing Lyov from 'The Mafia and His Angel' may evoke the reader to make concrete opinions on him and allowed the reader to connect with him much more. Some may have disliked him for creating an argument between Ayla and Alessio for Alessio nearly cheating on her for one of the maids. Lyov placed him into this frame of mind which could've caused a much bigger crash than anticipated. This impression of him stayed until the very end of the book when he saved Ayla and Alessio. Lylah hints at Maria throughout the book especially the end when Lyov and Ayla had a one-on-one conversation.
That build-up helped significantly for Lyov and Maria's development. The dramatic irony which was created in the first book, the reader knows that this book isn't going to end well for Lyov and Maria which makes the reader feel sympathetic as soon as the main characters meet or maybe as soon as they read the first line of the book. Not only does it develop Lyov and Maria but also Lena and the hardships she had to go through with her lover and baby. In 'The Mafia and His Angel', Alessio's side of the story was given however, they were never given Lyov perspective until this book. The emotional turmoil that I received after this sentences; "A vow was made. I never broke my vows." and "Till death do us part."
The book is very well written and there are no major faults. Lylah never ceases to amaze me. Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
eventhough i spent the majority of this book with tears in my eyes and snot streaming down my face, i would recommend this book. just make sure to have a box of tissue nearby when you read it. it taught me that every great love story isn't always end happily ever after. and that's okay, it doesn't decrease it's value.
"We will always be together, Angel.” A vow was made. I never broke my vows. They were always made with blood. But this time, it was made from the depth of my heart. “Promise?” “Promise.”
Little did we know…forever didn’t exist, just like fairy tales were just stupid dreams.
aaannddd, cue the tears.
every single time i read a quote from this book i feel like crying. when i was making edits for this book i was crying in front of my laptop, for real. i finished this book in one sitting and i spent a lot of tissues too, i mean who doesn't? i know that this isn't hea and that's why i was kinda hesitant to start it eventhough i finished tmaha long time ago. note that death trope is my weakness. but eventhough i know how this book will end, it still freaking hurts. it's so gut wrenching and iM NOT PREPARED. i think no one is.
i don't think i have the right words to describe their love story. it's so beautiful but it's also tragic at the same time. this book is well written and really broke me.
ps. also i think lylah should pay for her readers' therapies for this.

This is the brutally tragic love story of Lyov and Maria, his Angel. It could only end one way.
An unusual beginning, a chance meeting and a surprising turn of events marked the start of their tale. I loved all of the characters, Lyov with his strength, control and power, and Maria with her beautiful ability to love, be strong and accept Lyov for all that he is.
Their relationship was enchanting to read about, so sweet and tender with just that bit of an edge that comes from dancing on the edge of darkness with a man like Lyov. It was seductive, decadent and painfully sexy. Their encounters had me fanning myself. I loved the way they started to be together, how respectful and thougtful Lyov is with Maria and how she slowly learns to be with him.
I adored meeting Lena as a young woman in this story and her blossoming friendship with Maria, how close they were, understanding just how close they were as well as what Lena went through before Maddie was born. As the dreaded conclusion approached I found myself getting emotional, I didnt want it to end, but couldnt stop myself hurtlik the end of the book at top speed with a tear streaked face and a tissue in my grip. It was devastating to read first-hand loving the characters as I did.
Powerful, brutally beautiful and heartbreaking. This prequel is not to be missed.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Maria: I was trapped. There was nothing left of me. Then he came and wanted to make me his. He saved me. He gave me a home, a family. He made sweet love to me. I was his Angel. He was my everything. I thought we would live happily ever after, but there are not happy endings in the mafia life. I found this out the hard way, as the blood flowed red as roses.
Lyvov: Angel. The word meant nothing until I saw her. I found her in a place worse than hell. She calls me her savior. But I didn't save her. I captured the pretty angel and made her mine. Life was perfect. I had everything I wanted. I was her salvation. She was my redemption. Until I lost her. Angels deserved happy endings but monsters like me don't. My darkness became hers and our happily ever after became tainted.
I am going to go ahead an let you know that you need a box of kleenex to read this book. It tears your heart out really. I was such a mess reading this book. This is the story of the devil as some would call him and his angel. It is not a happily ever after it is a ending that will tear your heart out and you questioning everything in the universe. But, it is so good and I am so glad that I got to read it.
