Poor imitation

There are three books in this bundled Darcy Brothers series that I borrowed from Kindled Unlimited. It’s summer and the first story, a take on Pride and Prejudice, sounded like a fun beach read. Unfortunately, it emulates P&P only to the extent that there is an elitist hero and a more egalitarian heroine, neither of which are very believability or interestingly executed. This is pretty much poorly written fan fiction even to the extent that the author labels her chapters with whose POV is being told as opposed to creating a unique voice for each of the main characters.

The premise that brings the H/h together as devised by this author, is wholly unbelievable and the dialogue, especially through the first half of the novel has all the sophistication of giggly adolescent girls at a slumber party. The two main characters through the first half aren’t even very likable because the author tries too hard to illustrate the differences between them. The secondary characters are window dressing and disappear when the ‘hot and heavy’ begins with the main characters.

Bottom line: The only reason this gets two stars is that the “villain” complicating Darcy’s life is a bit of a surprise. Beyond that, I’m fairly certain that Jane Austen would not be flattered by this poor imitation.

I tried, I really tried

I thought I picked a bargain getting the complete series of the Darcy brothers, with promising reviews I looked forward to the read.

However after barely getting to the end of the first book, I got to chapter 4 in book two and had to cut my losses. I felt like it read as a book translated, the flow was all off and points skipped over, for example Sebastian waited while Diane’s sister recovered from being shot.... and that was it no back story into how/why her sister was shot.

The thought of reading the other books put me off and I very rarely stop reading a series part way through

The D'Arcy brothers are equally as hot and sexy as they are intense and traumatised. Their parents' tumultuous relationship truly did each of them a major injustice that is easily first reflected in the way they interacted with all the women who preceeded the ones that stole their hearts and then more exposed once they find their loves.

Funny enough, the two older brothers had awful reputations (business and pleasure), but were truly genuine and gentlemanly as their societal status and wealth dictates, while also being smart businessmen. The younger D'Arcy lived such a restrictive and manipulated life away from his siblings, that he didn't have the same type of allegations to defend. But his decision-making in all things was heavily warped by the solo upbringing with his mother, whose love came with more conditions and expectations and interference that Noah took far too long to realise.

And it would be remiss not to acknowledge that Marguerite didn't only attempt to control and destroy her children's love for each other, but also their relationship with their father and her marriage tobtheir father. Madame D'Arcy was forever plotting and scheming to achieve her own goals, even at the expense of her family.

I will say that I wasn't a fan of any of the FMCs in this set at all, simply because Diane, Mia and Sophie seemed to delight in living in the land of miscommunication, assumptions and ignorance. I constantly felt like reaching through the book and slapping them for their unnecessary responses to their respective D'Arcy man's attempts to earn their love, without setting themselves up for heartache. But each woman's come home moment was beautifully executed so ultimately, the HEA came together as it should, and the women stepped into the emotionally mature partners they needed to be.

Fantastic series!

Each story had unique qualities that made this series special. The storyline was very good and the chemistry was amazing.
While each story had it’s own HEA, I was a little disappointed that the “bad guys/girls” in these stories didn’t really get what they had coming IMO. For example, a mom or dad being manipulative even though they claim “it’s all in the name of love”. The story glosses over any fallout and all is forgiven. It didn’t hurt the stories, it’s just my personal opinion that the bad guy needs to be confronted. 🤷🏻‍♀️
The narration by both narrators was beyond amazing. I think there were a few words here or there where the narrator forgot they were French but who cares it was still fantastic.
I especially loved Alexander Cendese’s performance. He’s so unique and full of energy can bring any story to life.
I’m not a professional linguist or know anything really about accents but I do know this, I freaking loved their French accents. Whether they were accurate or not, IMO they’re performance was phenomenal.
This was a complete box set books 1-4 each story is a standalone and has its own HEA.
I highly recommend this book/series!

This is billed as the complete set but there is a book prior to the first one here not included in the audiobook set, FYI.

00.00.00 Find You in Paris, Enemies to Lovers Romance
Chapters 1-30
04:54:45 Raphael’s Fling, A Secret Baby Romance
Chapters 31-65
(Only Samantha Cook, narrating)
10:26:25 The Perfect Catch, Sports Romance
Chapters 66-93
15:13:33 Clarissa and the Cowboy, Opposites Attract Romance
Chapters 94-106

Read by Alexander Cendese in a French accent for the character voices, his own for the narration. And read by Samantha Cook, same.

The overall themes which change according to the titles are borderline repression for the women and large endowments for the men. There’s definitely a line drawn between women who do and women who don’t. Characters often respond in ways you wouldn’t expect - which was refreshing. I do wish there’d been more dialogue bw the principals in each story. There’s a fair amount of fast forwarding - whether they are together or apart.

Worth the hoopla borrow and the 17.5 total hours of listening. I chalk a lot of that - more than half actually - to the readers.

Here are my thoughts:

BOOK 1: FIND YOU IN PARIS *** Stars
Story was okay. Although Diane "hated" Sebastian, she had no problem letting her have him, even after she made promise after promise not too. My hand to my forehead, "Oh no! He's too sexy and I must have his body again. Okay, never mind the fact that he ruined my dad's perfume business."

BOOK 2: RAPHAEL'S FLING * Star
(Per author's blurb: GUARANTEED: Belly laughs, hot love scenes, a secret baby and a happy ending for this lust-to-love romance. You'll stay up late to finish this book!)
I'm not sure what to say about this story. Didn't draw me in. The format confused the hell out of me. I was going to stop after five pages but decided to do a quick skim. Nothing. Stopped there.

BOOK 3: THE PERFECT CATCH ****Stars
When brooding goalie Noah meets perky realtor Sophie, sparks fly hot and fast...
I thoroughly enjoyed Noah and Sophie.

COMPANION NOVELLA: CLARISSA & THE COWBOY. ****Stars
All I can is, never underestimate a quiet cowboy. Lots of sizzle and steam!

An anthology of three full-length books and one novella revolving around the three Darcy brothers. a trio of wealthy, aristocratic Frenchmen.
The youngest brother, Noah, and the woman who falls in love with his oldest brother have something in common, they both want revenge of the Darcy family. Diane just wants to take Sebastian down because he sent her father on the road to ruin. But he may be able to convince her differently.
His brother Raphael has been having fun with someone in his office but she runs when it starts to get serious. Meanwhile Noah has met his American landlord, Sophie, and is entranced. He just needs to dump his Darcy inheritance and he'll be free to live his life.

None of the books was particularly deep or attention-catching but I finished them all.

I have only read the first book in the series, which was quite good but very rushed. A lot of scenarios were left unanswered, like why did Octave want to hurt Sebastian?

I liked the chemistry between the main characters, but the whole series is predominantly centred around sex. I wanted something with a little more context, within a few chapters the main character who happens to loathe Sebastian for what he did to her father, suddenly has a 180 in character and can’t stop (for a lack of better word) humping him.

It put me off reading the next few books, especially when the second in the series starts with the main lead thinking about the sleeping with the female leas when he hasn’t yet been formally introduced to her!

Starts Strong and Ends Weak Box Set

Loved 2 of the 3 stories. If #3, Noah and Sophie's story, had been better, my rating would've been 4 stars. Sebastian's story was well-paced and steamy. Raphael's story, while entertaining, was only from Mia's POV (it would've been nice to get Raph's side of events). Noah's story was slow and mind-numbingly dull. Plus , if my relatives manipulated me the way these love-struck kids were, I'd be pissed as hell. Not just giving Daddy the "cold shoulder" for a week. Basically, these books started strong and ended weak. I doubt Ill read this author again.

DNF after book 1.

I only made it through book one. I love PP and was predisposed to love this book, but I did not. The writing feels very choppy. Pieces if the story are missing like the heroines sister is recovering from being shot. Huh? What? No idea, doesn't explain. The time-line jumps around with months past without any marking of time. I don't really see the characters fall in love, perhaps they fall out of annoyance don't share much beyond the physical. Definitely no chemistry. I buy the fake relationship much more than the real one. There is just very little anchoring this story to make us care about the characters.

An interesting twist of pride and prejudice

A great series of romance novellas about three French brothers by Alix Nichols. This was the first time I read books by this author. The plots have everything s romance novel should have; conflict, attraction, tenderness, mutual respect and the final realisation that they have found themselves in their soul mate. The first book about the oldest brother was the best with the strongest similarity to pride and prejudice. Every romantic at heart should read this.

Enjoyable series

I loved being able to read all three stories about the Darcy brothers and the bonus novella. The first story, Sebastian's, was a little too predictable but enjoyable. The second, Rafael's, was my favorite with a good mystery mixed in. Noah's is very different from the first two and a little more convoluted. If you are a stickler for real situation probability, you won't find it satisfying. If not, you will enjoy your time spent getting to know these characters.

This is my very first read of the author... Am not disappointed per se ...but there is something missing. Characters are good but events pertaining the growth of the same is totally missing. How and why of certain points in the story is totally unrelatable, like I have to read a part again to make sure that I have not skipped anything. Flow is missing. Side characters are useless and no impact on the story by them which is rare. All in all...it's cute but not worth the time for me.

Surely I will give sci fi a chance for this author before totally dismissing her books

Does it count as an anthology if all the stories are by the same author?

Anyhow, I enjoyed being able to read all the installments one after the other. No waits between brothers’ tales. Clarissa & the Cowboy was a fitting “dessert” to the Darcy meal. I think I provided my reactions in my write-ups for the individual books.

And yay! Uma & Zach do have their own story! And it’s part of its own series?!

Loved books 1 and 2, Noahs was ok

After reading Sebastian and Raphael s stories, I was most looking forward to Noah's , however, it was just ok. Sebastian's was my favorite. Three brothers all dealing with issues their terrible parents caused. I think the mom got off to easily for all the carp superheated on those boys. I loved all of their love interests. Strong, independent women with softer sides.

Great!

I chose this rating because this is a really great book. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Those Dorsey brothers were real go-getters. Even though they may not of done everything decent and in order. But I believe they were fair young men. Now their mother that's a whole another story. She was very manipulative toward her younger son. Overall this was a really great book. I enjoyed every last page. Great read! I recommend this book to all readers.

I had the first three already and still enjoyed them on the reread. The fourth one though, I didn't like. Hence the average review. I found the fourth one had too much talk of attending galas and her archeology stuff and his ranch stuff. Boring, mundane stuff for too long. The epilogue was also really brief in a more tell not show manner. Just meh.

Darcy brothers is excellent

The story about the three Darcy brothers and there women who come into their lives is fantastic. The characters are relatable and just a great read. I have this a four as the fourth book should have been left off as the Darcy brothers were so fantastic and the add on book at the end was just a let down.

Three bothers, three very different books.

I bought this book set a while ago but never got around to reading it. I read the first few chapters of the first story and nearly have up, I was bored. For some reason I persevered and finally enjoyed it. The next two stories I enjoyed more.
Each book was different as each brother accepted that they were capable of falling in love.

Mediocre

Not the best series I found this a little boring. None of the characters really endear themselves to the reader, it is as though the author never really got involved with the writing and somehow never bonded with the stories. I never found any humour or much true romance in any of the books. Sorry I found this series somewhat disappointing.

There were moments in book 1 where I considered calling it quits. Too much pro Socialism/anti Capitalism rhetoric and unreasonable bashing of the wealthy distracted me from the story. I kept reading and liked the book by the end. All 3 stories and the novella were good and I'm glad I kept reading.

Couldn’t finish it

Started out as a good story. I totally lost it when the main character so easily speaks too snd falls into the car with the main man that she claimed to despise so much. Felt too much like a teenage written drama I’ve read before and regretted. Didn’t waste my time on it.

A wonderful series!

This book set presents a great story of how a trio of brothers finds love, although it's not an easy road for any of the parties involved. There is just enough tension and angst to keep you reading on, and feeling that.the love is earned in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed their journeys!

Good story different story line just to keep things interey. I loved It was his idea and then way of changing. The second story was the best. The second son did not seem to have many ups and downs but got his way in an eadybpleasingbkind ofvway. Theories story didn't have the same feel. I think it is hard to the everything together and keep it very interesting. I enjoyed this box set.

Ok

These books had the potential to be really good stories but felt as though I was reading the first draft. They got better as they went through the stories but I felt like, the first book especially, needed to be rewritten in a lot more depth. Other than that I enjoyed the story lines in all of them and would be happy to read again if ever they were reworked.

Haven’t seen this kind of poor writing ever since I read ACOTAR before Feyre decided to grow tfu.
No character development, spoon-feeding time of writing and for heaven’s sake will someone wrestle the ctrl + i keys from this author’s hands!
I’m amazed I even got through the first out of five stories.
