The first story was about boys swimming, but one got a stick in his leg but he was okay. The other boy pulled the sticks out of his leg. My favorite story was the last one because the girls were making cakes for other people that didn't have any food. They called it "Kid Funds". They thought they were going to get a prize (two pairs of skates, one for each of them) but they didn't get the prize because one of the cakes melted in the oven because it was too hot. They thought cakes were supposed to be hot. Then they were making another one. Then they put sprinkles on the cake. Then they put a type of gooey stuff on the cake but they both liked it.

As an adult it is hard to get excited about beginner readers. Nevertheless, this is a good book series to begin reading. We found we used to more for practicing pronunciation and purely reading practice. Our lil' munchkin likes the stories and "cliff hangers." As a parent, I like the ease of these.

It's hard to get excited about early readers with controlled vocabulary and some out of date words like nag. . .

I appreciated the I Can Read It! series for the phonetic emphasis (less sight words) and there seemed to be less word repetition after the first couple of stories than in some other earliest readers we've seen. My kids like the simple stories and illustrations.
