American humorist best known for his long-running column of political satire and commentary that he wrote in The Washington Post, which was syndicated in over 500 newspapers. He wrote more than 30 books. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary in 1982. In 1991 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Short and snappy snippets of Art Buchwald’s irrepressible humour from his columns published in the Paris edition of the New York Herald Tribune in the fifties. The humour is decidedly of its era, as are the topics, but if you want to get a flavour of the place as it was then, seen from the vantage point of an American (which I did) it’s useful reading.
