When Natalie Quimby started working as a third grade teacher she vowed to shed her socialite skin for good. And things were going great.
Enter tall, dark and handsome August Huffman. He's everything Natalie wants in a man. There's just one problem, he's the father of one of her students.
Will Natalie finally find love, or is she doomed to repeat past mistakes?
I've been reading as long as I've been walking, though I never done the two together (I'm rather clumsy). With the birth of my second son I became a stay-at-home mom and found when the little one took a nap I had a WHOLE hour to myself.
I wanted nothing more than to escape for that hour and thus a love for writing was born.
This book reminded me why I took a break from reading these Kindle World books. The story was just very boring for me and there were also mistakes that confused me. The hero was first introduced as Warren, but then the next time he shows up and every time after, he was then August, and no his middle name wasn't Warren. And then Natalie apparently had a cousin that was also called August?
What really lowered my rating was the fact that at the end all of this drama with Natalie's past is thrown in but never explained. So we never actually got the story of what happened with her being a home-wrecker. Overall, there was just too much time where nothing was happening in the story for my liking, and then everything revealed at the end without very much detail didn't help anything.
I have really loved this KW universe. But boy did I hate this book.
First, the writing was poorly edited and juvenile. Seriously, any man that sends a text that says “peekaboo I saw you” cannot be a hero in a romance novel!
The heroine was a home wrecker. Another no-no for a romance novel. I hated her. Even before I found out about her past whorish behavior. She was just totally shallow and unlikable.
Then the way it wrapped up was so strange. He sees her at school and then suddenly they are screwing (in the most awkward scene ever). What happened to the date they were planning?
And then it ends with it will be a good summer. Really? Seriously? Every single other book in the series gave us a HEA. With Epilogues. Here we get a summer fling.
Ummm. What the heck did I just read? Where does this fit into ARR's Until world?
There is so much wrong with this book, I can't believe that the author would actually publish this! First...Who the heck is Warren? Thomas' dad first introduces himself as Warren Huffman, then he's later called August, then he's the famous artist G.H. I mean hell the many names this guy has makes him seem almost schizophrenic. Add in the fact that Natalie all of a sudden now has a cousin named August...I think this author should probably figure out the names of her characters... Second...The big secret Natalie is "hiding"? I'm not sure why this was such a big deal... Third...WHERE'S THE BOOM! There was absolutely no chemistry between these two. I was very disappointed with how their relationship was written and the whiplash I kept getting from Natalie wanting him, not wanting him, to lusting after him, to unrequited love that she'll never experience because her past. PLEASE!
I'm so annoyed with this book and disappointed I actually spent money on this.
3.5 Stars This was a good, quick read. I liked Natalie, even though she had done some unfavorable things in her past ahe was ashamed of them now and owned up to her mistakes. I wish we got to know August a little better, more from his POV. I also wish there was an epilogue, stories always feel incomplete without them.
This is my first taste of anything written by Elle Jefferson. I have to say that I wish I would've tried a full length novel first.
This could've been a slam dunk for me, really. I mean, single dads...that's my jam. But this one just totally missed the mark. It had so much going for it too.
There was this huge moment and....nothing. Nothing came from it. By the end, it was like it had never even happened. It was so bizarre. There was no real ending. It just...cut off.
This is too short. There was not enough to the story.... It almost looks like a rough draft. It should be edited. There were some sentences included that just didn't make any sense. I would it if the author would go back through and make this a full story. She could totally redeem it because she has the bare bones of a really good story. I would totally read it again if she were to re-release this.
So, this one was a bit shorter than the others I've read in this series, so far. And while it wasn't my favorite, it was still cute. First, we have Natalie, who I guess was some sort of socialite, back in the day, who'd had an affair with her father's married friend, and then bragged about it on social media. That's kinda gross, I'll admit, but she was a different person now, a third-grade teacher who pretty much kept to herself... well, and her brother and bestie...
One meeting with a student\s parents, she feels the BOOM with the father. Knowing it's against the rules, they agree to wait until summer, when she's no longer the kids' teacher. Luckily, it was only three weeks and they went very quickly.
The only thing I didn't like, was the ex-wife. She had a new boyfriend and was even talking about moving away with his son, but it ended before anything could come of that, so I felt a little jipped. Then, the ex threatened Natalie, and caused a little bit of problems, but nothing really came about that either. It just ended so finally after they finally got together, and I dunno, I was just left feeling let done.
So, not a fave, but definitely a cute addition to the series. 3 stars from me
Interesting book and first time reading this author but hard time finding the boom in this book And the Mayson was only mentioned slightly. But a good book in all.
I have really been on a reading binge of Aurora Rose Reynolds' Happily Ever Alpha Kindle World the last few days, and I've been working my way through them quite quickly. When I read that this one involved a teacher and a student's father, I was set! Unfortunately, this didn't hit the mark for me. I found the characters very underdeveloped and immature. While the plot had a lot of potential, it left a lot out. The writing was choppy with short sentences that broke up the flow of natural reading, and there were numerous grammar and capitalization issues (as a teacher myself, I find it unacceptable when my students do not begin a sentence with a capital letter; and an adult who is a writer should definitely catch those errors. And there were quite a few of them). In addition, names were not explained or used for more than one character (August was referred to as "Warren" in the first chapter, but that was never explained; there was another character- a cousin, I think, who was also named August? I'm not sure). I'd like to say that I'd read more from this author, but I'm not sure if I could. I pushed my way through this because I wanted to see them get there happily ever alpha, but I just never felt it.
First of all were there two characters in this book named August? Or was it just me? One minute Natalie is dreaming about kissing August then she’s talking to her brother about how August is going to visit their parents like they’ve known each other but the drama of the book relies on the fact that he doesn’t know where she came from and what happened there. Does Natalie also have a cousin named August or something? If so that’s poor planning on the authors part and just plain confusing to the reader. Second, the book teases you from the beginning about August and Natalie getting together. There is this huge build up which I really don’t mind, but then it’s like she forgot to finish the book. They finally, FINALLY, get together and after that one night they say it’s going to be an amazing summer and that’s the end of the book. The whole premise of the “boom” and this series is that they fall madly in love. They don’t decide to just have one wacky fun summer. Maybe the summer was just the start of a wonderful life together, but who knows? Not the readers because there’s no conclusion to the story or even an epilogue to tell us how things turn out. I loved the love at first sight “boom” aspect of this book but it needed some serious editing and revising.
Until the summer is part of Aurora Rose Reynolds Kindle World Series. This story is short, fast paced and enjoyable. I read this book within half an hour and was left wanting more. I liked that Natalie helped Thomas. She could clearly see that something was bothering her student. Instead of punishing his behaviour, she got to the root of the problem. I liked August. I liked that he was quiet and came across as quite shy. I liked that he wanted Natalie and was willing to wait for her. The chemistry between them is clear to see, I just wanted more scenes of them as a couple, but that is just me being greedy. I wasn’t a fan of August’s ex. I wanted her to leave Natalie alone. I loved Natalie’s bond with her brother. I liked seeing how close they were. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read.
This is my first read by Elle Jefferson and I think I would like to read more of her books but not sure about a Novella since this one seemed like it was put together quickly and left some things out of kilter. Like maybe more time should have been given to the naming the characters instead of having the main male character and a teen cousin named the same or changing Mr Huffman's name from how he was originally introduced.
I did enjoy this story but felt it should have been given more word count as it felt like there was more that should have been said. I also thought the BOOM happened when the couple first meet.
I did like that August's ex (not the little cousin August) got her comeuppance when she did her best to stop Natalie from dating him and at the same time causing Natalie problems at her job.
I love all of the novellas in this kindle world except this one. From the beginning the story felt forced. The BOOM was no part of this story other than to suggest looking at August instantly made Natalie wet. Very disappointing. No Insta love, no caveman willing to get his woman at any cost, no real chemistry between the leads. That "click" with the first touch, the first glance was glaringly absent. The writing itself wasn't bad; the story was just missing what all the others in the series had in spades. Tough that even though the book is a standalone it is measured up to all the others existing in this "world".
I do not like giving bad reviews but I can't lie and say this was good. What was the connection to The Until Series? I'm not a writer nor did I get an A in English but there were a lot of grammer errors. A couple would have been fine but there were so many! I did not feel a connection between these two characters. What happened with Thomas' issue? It was brought up then nothing. MAYBE if the book was longer it would have helped. Not sure. This was the first book I've read by this author. Honestly, I'm not sure I can read anything else by them.
Just... no. Too muddled of a story. Two characters named August? I had to backtrack to make sure that I hadn't missed something. She was silly & very immature. Get that this was trying to make a statement about social media... but it didn't. He wasn't very likable. The kid was ok. Why was the ex even bothered? Who was the principal? I assuming Lilly cos of the red hair... but, if it was, this was a very tenuous link to the Maysons... she interacted once... briefly. Silly story. And it just stopped. Just like... that. No epi... nothing. Just kit off, sex... end.
This was not a bad story, it just felt a little sloppy. I've never read this author before, I don't know if these characters exist in her other books. It felt like the characters never really develop & then it's over.
There's a phone call between the h and her mother, where they talk about a cousin named August, but that's also the H's name.... So not only is it confusing, it's pointless. I think the author has potential, but this was a miss for me
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for a voluntary, completely honest, and non-incentivized review.
Delightfully written novella. Enjoyable characters that deserve there HEA! Visiting with the Mayson guys was a sweet treat. Readers will enjoy this if they are looking for a quick romantic read and enjoy the Until Series.
August walks into her classroom for a meeting about his son. His exwife shows up and they bicker. Talking to the boy, she learns that his mom is moving away but he doens't want to go.
She goes to a showing for GH not knowing that August is the artist she's admired, they go out for coffee but she won't get involved with him until school has let out. Then the exwife tries to scare her off.
The idea for the novella was good. However the ending was a bit off. I read the last line and went to swipe to the next page and there wasn't one. I was left really confused.
This story didn’t have the ending I have come to expect but it was no different in the fact that they both found their Boom and it was just as hot and exciting as all the others
The story and characters were okay; however, the grammatical and formatting errors were horrendous. Honestly, there were so many, I found myself laughing about them. Maybe the author needs a new proofreader or editor.
Poorly written. No character development. Felt no connection . Was hard to follow... Maybe because it was just so boring? Ended up skimming and skipping pages.
It’s true everyone has a past, some good, some bad and some you wish never happened. When you find the one they don’t care about your past. Incredible story
With the promise of what appeared to be a great storyline line even if it was a quick read was infact a bit of a let down, started of decent enough then just sort of fell flat.
