Dying thoughts - Sixth Change is the sixth book in the Dying Thoughts series written by Joey Paul. It is an easy, fun read which everyone will enjoy.
The story still follows our Tara, who has a gift of seeing the last moments of dead people when she touches things that belong to them. However, now she is in college, her dad is a pop star again, and she finally has her circle of friends. Tara has to deal with these changes while still struggling to move on from some unfortunate events that happened to her in the last months. When there is someone who attacks and targets young women, specifically Tara's friend, she decided that she's going to find and stop whoever is committing this crime.
I am really excited reading this one since I really love the first novel of this series. The reading experience felt like meeting an old friend whom I haven't seen for a long time. The story is told through Tara's POV which has still its charm thanks to her sarcastic, witty remarks. The author really hit the mark of portraying a teenage girl. The flow of the story is smooth and steady and it is easy to understand. Although the plot isn't that complicated, it is still engaging. Also, there are some phrases and descriptions that are repeatedly written, which I think is unnecessary because it might distract the readers.
Also, this book includes a variety of interesting characters. We have Tara's new friends who represent different races and colors, and also she finally has a love interest! Tara's character changed a lot. Of course, she's still the sarcastic kid that I knew from the start. However, now she acts too childish especially when it comes to her dad. She keeps on telling that she's nearly an adult but her actions somehow are the complete opposite of that. To be fair, she acted like that because she's been through a lot and she's in the phase of proving herself to be more independent. Her character's development both interested and fascinated me.
Overall, Dying Thoughts Series is a quick and enjoyable book. I gave this book 4/5 stars.
Thank you, Joey Paul, for giving me a digital arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
Tara's life had been full of change. She was nearly an adult now, she was willingly attending higher education, she had friends, a goal, but there were a few things she could not change, her gift to see a dying person's last moments, and the toll Adam's actions and her past experiences had taken on her. Now, at college, she finds herself once more faced with horror as members of her social circle are drugged and abducted, barely escaping. It takes her to a place in her mind she would rather not be, a place she must willingly venture if she is to uncover the ones responsible. The abductor's game is evolving, but so too is Tara's gift. Can she overcome her fears and learn what she must before something even more terrible happens?
I have read every book in this series to date, and I have to say they just keep getting better. The Dying Thoughts series is easily one of the best examples of the first-person narrative I have ever encountered, and just as Tara ages from book one to six, so too does her monologue, and outlook, something clearly reflected in the ever-maturing voice written by Joey Paul. Trouble seems to find Tara everywhere and book six is no exception. New friends, new troubles, and new visions await, and the clock is ticking. This is an amazing series, but the books also work well as stand-alone, anything you need to know is skilfully recapped, and you'll find it hard not to be pulled along with the vivid and unique characters who drive this adventure.
'Dying Thoughts: Sixth Change' by Joey Paul is told from Tara's perception. She is a very gifted teenager, but not in the arts like her father. Instead, Tara, has inherited her mother's ability to see the events immediately preceding a person being killed.
Tara presents differently to different people. People, like her father, councillor, employer & bestfriend, Kaolin know that she is struggling emotionally due to recent events, & the burden of responsibility her gift brings with it. To others, such as her college friends, especially Nate, she is a cool person who just happens to be the daughter of a superstar. Throughout 'Dying Thoughts: Sixth Change', Joey Paul skillfully shows how Tara moves between each persona in her daily life & yet, even when she's at her lowest, she still puts others needs first.
I would highly recommend this story to older children, teens & adults who love to read paranormal and crime stories.
Change is never easy and our protagonist, Tara, is reminded of this as changes occur in her life and others, namely the adults surrounding her, are not acclimating to them easily. A parent’s desire to protect their child with the discovery this isn’t always possible creates storyline tension that heightens the read. In college, Tara, faces unthinkable debacles as her friends fall victim to being drugged and taken by force. Tara joins with the police and using her psychic abilities sets out to help them solve the mystery of who is raping and murdering college girls. There’s plenty of interesting plot to propel the story along right to the satisfying ending. This was an easy and enjoyable read.
Wow, I was surprised how into this book I became and quickly. The story was phenomenal and the world building was outstanding. I decided to try a few pages and before I knew it I had devoured the entire book. This book flowed so easily I didn't realise I had read the entire thing until I had turned the last page. Wow!! Will definitely be following this author from now on.
A teenage psychic is helping the police bring a murderer who is attacking college girls to justice in the exciting young adult paranormal sleuth mystery, Dying Thoughts: Sixth Change by Joey Paul. Since Andy abducted Tara, everything in her life is different. Her famous rock-star father is out of retirement, and Tara is going to college. The most extraordinary thing is that Tara has many friends and actually enjoys going to school now. Her life is more balanced until her father forgets her seventeenth birthday and won't even be home. Worse than that, he forbids Tara from having a party for her friends while he is away. Stubbornly rebelling against her father, Tara invites her friends over anyway. In a tragic twist of fate, one of them is attacked on her way home and barely escapes with minor injuries. When more of her friends and schoolmates are victims and the violence escalates, Tara contacts Detective Chief Inspector Mike, insisting he allows her to be involved in the investigation. Unfortunately, the murderer believes Tara is a police informant and has chosen her as his next victim. Can Tara overcome her post-traumatic anxiety and discover the killer before he finds her? Or is she already too late, and history will repeat itself?
Dying Thoughts: Sixth Change by Joey Paul is a fun and exciting amateur sleuth novel with a paranormal nuance. With magnetic and likable characters and a plot filled with intrigue and suspense, the storyline captivates and engages the reader from the outset. I love this series, and I have enjoyed watching the characters mature and evolve. It is the sixth book in the series, and even though it does well as a standalone, I recommend reading all of the Dying Thoughts books. Skillfully written, the story has a flawless plot arc and an exciting and explosive finish. It is a sensational series that promises to delight and thrill young adult readers who enjoy amateur sleuth mysteries with paranormal aspects and a snarky heroine.
