Children's Dreams are Innocent and Sweet. Until They Start to Kill.
There's a new drug in town. The addicts call it "Ice Dream" and it makes crack seem as harmless as chamomile tea. Three people are dead already, and the police are frantic.
It's heroin, laced with children's dreams. It's no wonder that the victims die smiling.
Now they want me, a sorcerer with a guilty conscience and a dark past, to find out who's making it. There's a subtle request in the chief of detectives' tone; Make it stop, no matter what you have to do.
Fine with me, as long as I'm getting paid. What do I care about one criminal's fate?
Alex Rivers is the co-author of the Dark Fae FBI Series. In the past, he's been a journalist, a game developer, and the CEO of the company Loadingames. He is married to a woman who diligently forces him to live his dream, and is the father of an angel, a pixie, and a gremlin. He has two voracious hounds that wag their tail quite menacingly at anyone who comes near his home.
Alex has been imagining himself fighting demons and vampires since forever. Writing about it is even better, because he doesn't get bitten, or tormented in hell, or even just muddy. In fact, he does it in his slippers.
Alex also writes crime thrillers under the pen name Mike Omer.

A short novella but a great introduction to this new-to-me series. Kane is a sorcerer, hired by a police detective to help find out who is making this killer drug. Heroin with a mixture of something extra is killing off people and it is up to Kane to find out who.
This character was great, reminded me in parts of good old Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden, but not exactly the same. Kane has a difficult past, one he is trying to work through, but has no leads for how to solve his situation at the minute.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series and see where it takes us with Kane, Danielle and the crimes he has to solve.
Got the book via Book Funnel; sounded like something I'd like. The premise is a wizard/sorcerer is an "as needed" consultant for the NYPD Chief of Detectives and gets a case concerning magic enhanced illegal drugs. The protagonist needs to make money to pay his sister's medical expenses. The book itself was a quick read, but enough there for me to give it 4 stars and look forward to more action (and hopefully more explanation) in this world.
This is a prequel to The Yalister Crystal series. It’s not necessary to read in order to enjoy the series but I highly recommend it because it’s great!
