About the author

Harishankar Parsai (हरिशंकर परसाई) was one of the greatest hindi satire writer. Despite holding a MA degree in English, he never wrote in this language. Started his career as a teacher, he later quit it to become a full time writer and started a literature magazine "Vasudha"(it was later closed because of financial difficulties).

He was famous for his blunt and pinching style of writing which included allegorical as well as realist approach. He was funny enough to make you laugh but serious enough to prick your conscience. There would be hardly any dimension of life left which has not appeared in his satires. He received Sahitya Academy Award(biggest literature award in India) for his book "Viklaang Sraddha ka Daur". He has penned down some novels also.

ये एक पठनीय और प्रासंगिक संग्रह है। इधर परसाई जी ने सामाज के हर हिस्से पर अपनी नज़र घुमाई है : फिर चाहे वो धार्मिक आडम्बर हो, सरकारी भ्रष्टाचार हो, दफ्तरों में होने वाली जी हुजूरी हो या समाज में फैली झूठी शान, दोगलापन हो। उन्होंने बुद्धिजीवियों को भी अपने निशाने में रखा। संग्रह के आखिरी तीन रचानायें निबंध है जो उस वक्त (१९७० के दशक के) कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बिन्दुओं को उठाती हैं। परसाई जी के विचार उन बिन्दुओं पर पढकर अच्छा लगा। इसमें से नर्मदा और लेखकीय संगरक्षण वाला मुद्दा तो आज भी बरकरार है। मेरी मानें तो इस संग्रह को अवश्य पढ़ें।

I am a hardcore fan of parsai ji. so no chances of giving less than 5 stars. He might sometimes seem rude but what he writes had always been naked truths of Indian society.

As the name suggests, it is about religion. If you're a smart man, you don't talk about religions. But, Harishankar Parsai is a satirist and can be treated as an exception. Parsai-ji writes about how a religion becomes a business, with all ethics going into the drain. His prose is simple. So simple that you smile and feel shameful at the same time. Social issues prevail and his writing brings them into outstanding clarity before the reader. What more do you expect from a book?

("वैष्णव की फिसलन" by हरिशंकर परसाई) व्यंग में डूबी ये पुस्तक रोचक भी है और सोचने पर मजबूर भी करती है। और ब्यूरोक्रेसी पर किये कटाक्ष कमाल के हैं। उदाहरण के लिए -"बड़ा साहब 'स्टीम रोलर' होता है जो डिपार्टमेंट के बड़े छोटे का भेद मिटा देता है। सब समतल हो जाते हैं क्योंकि सब डरे हुए होते हैं। डर भेद मिटाता है। प्रेम नहीं मिटाता।"

The last write up is good. Just that last one. But the book is very popular and you may like reading this. Harishankar Parsai was brilliant.
