Ven is the second book in The V Games series by K Webster & Ker Dukey and one of my most highly anticipated books of this year. In the previous installment, Diana was the character that intrigued me most. I couldn't wait to get more of her, and she did not disappoint!

Diana Volkov is beautiful, strong, business minded, loyal, and smart. She was raised to be more than just eye candy, and that is evident in everything that she does. Whether managing business or kicking ass, she always comes out on top. I enjoyed her strength and determination in this world where women are seen as weak and pathetic and treated like objects or property.

Ven Vetrov is sexy, strong, powerful, vicious, and alpha all the way! He has loved Diana since they were children, but he knew she was never meant to be his. Now, he has a chance to change that, and he doesn't intend to let it pass him by.

Ven is dark, captivating, violent, and hot! In other words, it's everything you would expect from this author duo. The first half of the book is perfection. However, in the second half, Ven does something that totally changed my opinion of him, and I lost all my love for him which was super disappointing. Diana didn't fall as far out of my favor, but she knows something about him that she basically sweeps under the rug and that didn't sit well with me. I wanted to knock the shit out of her for it, but I still like her. Lol That being said, I couldn't stop reading, and I look forward to the next installment!

If you liked Vlad, you should definitely give Ven a try, and if you're a fan of mafia romance, this series is for you!!

P.S. I seriously can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope Vika gets her own book. 🙈

I knew this was going to be an amazing read right from the start. This story and these characters captured my mind so intensely that I forgot to do anything else but read. Work? Nothing couldn’t wait until tomorrow. Dishes? Get the kids to do it. Sleep? Who needs that? Ven and Diana were calling my name and I could hear nor see anything else!

I don’t know what sort of games we’re playing…
But I sure as hell want to win.
I want to win… her.
- Ven

Yes Ven! Be in it to win it. Don’t let anyone, least of all Diana, get in your way!!

Speaking of Diana, I didn’t love her. Nope, she definitely didn’t do it for me. However, I admired the heck out of her for the choices she made… most of the time. Her willingness to sacrifice herself on the blade in order to protect her sister earned my respect. And then she had to get all warrior girl and vow vengeance against the monsters that made up the hierarchy of the world she lived in and had me all Team Diana.

I LOVED Ven! Loved this dude so hard! I didn’t know what to expect from him and I was happy that he turned out to be a worthwhile hero (anti-hero?). He was fiercely loyal, compassionate to those he cared about, and clearly lethal. When it came to Diana, he was a teddy bear. A vicious, cuddly teddy bear.

Time to replenish my darkness, and let loose the hate that now festers deep within me. - Ven

The monster that lived within him was sexy, even if I was upset with the way it was drawn out. Damn you, Diana! I loved how he embraced his darkness and lost his mind. It allowed me to see another side to him, a side that wasn’t soft and loving and passionate. Well, he was still passionate, but he was also wicked and tormented.

Her mouth - her juicy fat lips - was meant for kissing. Meant for kissing me. - Ven

There was so much to love about Ven. His lighter, considerate side and his dark, dominant, and slightly evil side. I’m not even sure which one I loved more. What I did love is that even when he tried to close his heart to its one true love, he couldn’t shut it off. It was a constant struggle to not let his heart win when he was far from doing good and I liked how the authors played with his character in this way.

Now I’m super excited for the next book in the V Games series. Not only because of the crazy amount of revelations made in this one, but because I still need to get a story for Vas. Oh and Ven’s crazy cousins, the Madmen of Moscow, have most definitely piqued my interest!

Rating:

Veniamin (Ven) Vetrov grew up among the vultures. As the heir of the Vetrov empire, he was groomed his whole life to upheld his family's name and reputations. He did his part perfunctorily until he found a reason to fight for what he really wanted.

Diana Volkov was used to be a second thought even though she came from a respected family. Disgraced from her past indiscretion, she vowed vengeance to those who wronged her. But her path might take a different turn if she wasn't careful with her heart.

I’ll help her find herself again. Rebuild and reclaim what he stole, and then I’ll give her everything she deserves.

I like how Ven could easily detached from the vileness of his job because it made him dangerous. However I'm not a fan of how he was pussified even if some if it were subtle/indirect.

I learned a long time ago men will always take, take, take. Not anymore. I’m done letting men rule my destiny.

On the surface, Diana was a badass female character among all the vicious men. She knew when to stay low and when to strike. But her fears let her to some decisions that didn't help her situation.

When I get out of here, I’m stripping myself of everything those animals are. I’ll create my own empire and do everything I can to watch theirs burn with them in it.

In this book, I felt I had better grasp of the many characters and the dynamics in this series. I enjoyed the atrociousness of the characters and their world and I liked how the authors didn't hold back. However considering how the main characters grew up, they did some things that they should know better not to do.

The V Games concept is what fascinates me the most about the series. I was exited for game day to arrived but was disappointed when the mechanics weren't properly explained making it lost its potential impact. Good thing the sex scenes were hot and all the non/dub con made up for it haha!

Diana made me weak, and no one will ever see that side of me again.

Ven is a story of vengeance and taking charge. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to see what other debauchery the authors will come up with.

Note 1:
I love the supporting characters and their stories. Vika definitely grew on me.

Note 2:
I hope Viktor will get a book so my favorite psycho (who shall not be named :p) could make an appearance lol!

I do seriously dislike this books hero and i won't ever reread this one, but i am pretty sure i will read next one (even when i am already disappointed in hero/heroine choice).

I want to give this book 5 stars, i devoured this book. Body parts and violence.. It was the GAMES! Soooo facinating and original - but i can't because of the hero. Who was just disgusting!

******SPOILERS AHEAD!******

Ves was great at start, manwhore, but he did not hurt women, did not rape and just pined for Diana who he could not have.
They where great together, cute.
Then shit went down and he turned into this MONSTER. For 5 months fucked whores and raped Kira (druggs and (gang)rapes Kira all this time).
I hate that Diana never confronted him about Kira. She was supposed to be her childhood (best)friend. Hell.. they ALL crew up with Kira and her family was high in their crime organisation (that is until Kira's father snitched to FBI).
Ves captured her, gang rapes her with his cousins for 5+ months and then brought her to games to be slaughtered (to teach Kira's father a lesson).
In the games Diana tried to protect Kira, but was knocked out and meanwhile Kira was tortured, raped, arms missing, lips sewn etc. Dead. And BOOOM.. she is kinda forgotten by all.
She (Kira) was their all childhood friend for 16 years (until her father betrayed them and she went into hidding).

That 5 months and Kira part was a major NO NO VILE in this book.
Diana was great and strong, but how she just swallowed those 5 months of crap.. doormat.

Ves gave me serious book hangover. #cringe

And i am not feeling interested about next book hero/heroine ;(

Yes. Yes. Yes.

First. You must read book one to fully understand the dynamics in this book and of this world. Second. HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING! Diana was like this bad ass Phoenix goddess. Ven is this sexy lion beast. Together they are a roaring lion and lioness duo rising from the ashes. I just. Can’t. ALL the characters and layers in this book. The actual V GAMES. Everything I wanted and more happened.

THAT ENDING! *screams* I knew it!!! I can not wait for book three. If you enjoy corruption, Russian mob, the hunger games, and a modern monarchy-ish vibe... then you NEED to start this series RIGHT now!

(NO CLIFFHANGER ENDING, ending alludes to plot of book three.)

Veniamin “Ven” Vetrov is the oldest son caught in his family’s web of power. While he is expanding businesses in his own right, his father continues to manipulate his life. Feeling a romantic connection with the daughter of a rival first family, circumstances change permitting Ven to pursue what he thought was always a longshot. However, the stakes are high as nothing seems to be transparent.

“I believe in fate. And we are fated.”

Diana Volkov is the oldest daughter of a powerful family. Groomed to take over the business she made profitable, everything changed when a startling discovery is made. Forced to pay for her choices, Diana must start over in a world where men rule. Knowing the limitations, she acts based on survival.

“When you live among wolves,” she tells me, tugging gently on my beard, “you learn to play like one.”

With a complex cast of villainous characters, Ven and Diana try to obtain the inevitable despite the consequences. To Diana’s dismay, her dishonesty and deceit hurts the one person she admires and loves. While Ven tries to move forward by immersing himself in distractions, Diana’s status irrevocably changes causing her to fight for her honor and rightful position.

“Show me how to use a knife,” I tell him. “I want to know how to cut a man from his chin to his balls, and I want to know how to do it before they even have a chance to strike.”

What I liked about Diana is that she is a force within a world of morally corrupt wealthy men. Standing strong, she wouldn’t let them see her insecurities. That said, there was one decision where she shorted herself and should have been more savvy about risks. As for Ven, he wanted to escape the cast shadow of his father’s greed and that was commendable, but, I wanted more about his struggle over the years and how he branched out. Lastly, I was really looking forward to the games, but also hoped for much more detail about the competition and a longer struggle (mentally and physically) for a certain character.

In addition to Diana and Ven, there are secondary characters that truly escalated the plot – namely Vas Volkov and Vika Vasiliev. Individually, they are either discounted or disgraced and that makes them much more interesting. While getting more of Vas will happen, I hope Vika gets her own book. Additionally, I’m patiently waiting for the timeline to coincide with Viktor’s return.

Within this landscape of greed and debasement, the pace is quick leading to gruesome action and a dark underbelly of illegal activities. The authors weave an intricate web that continues to expand. Ven would appeal to those looking to peak into a dark world without limits.

Re-read 22nd - 23rd January 2019
I’ve just done a re-read so I can move onto Vas.

Original review.

I’ve just re-read Vlad in readiness for Ven and I’m looking forward to discovering Diana’s story. Since it was obvious there was more to come.

Surprisingly I didn’t read any reviews first. I was in Wales for a short break only to discover I’d no signal or WiFi. If I’d read the reviews I’m not sure I would have continued on.

I found this book addictive reading, it pulled me in and just wouldn’t let go. Now it’s a dark read, even the women in the First Families take the horrors of their business in their stride. I know it’s the life into which they’ve been raised but it’s hard to accept the ease with which they view it.

I was soon hooked and enjoying the read. I was over half way in when it changed and took a darker much more disturbing turn. Up to this point I really liked Ven. But his actions changed this and honestly I just didn’t need it.
I like a bad boy (who doesn’t?) but this went beyond that. There’s no excuse and no need for it (for me anyway) and Ven was no longer the handsome hero I wanted or believed he was.

If the event had taken place earlier there’s a good chance I would have quit.
I didn’t however I continued on wanting to know how things played out with the other characters. I wanted to know what happened with Diana in the Games and honestly I was hooked and committed even though by this point I really didn’t like Ven.

This is a dark read and if you enjoyed Vlad you’ll probably enjoy this.

#1 Vlad – 3 stars
#2 Ven – 3 stars
#3 Vas – 3.75 stars

this book in one picture:

"When you live among the wolves," she tells me, tugging gently on my beard, "you learn to play like one."

it started out so good! i loved Diana since Vlad and this book only strengthen my love for her. badass and fierce female characters are my kryptonite and Diana embodies everything i love in a heroine. she's a queen and Diana had to endure so many awful things in this book. she's the biggest reason why i still give this book 3 stars despite all the fuck up shit our Hero, Veniamin, did. Ven was such trash for Diana until in the latter half he became just trash. honestly the first half was so cute, how this cunning and ruthless mafia guy is soft for Diana, therefore it made me more sad than angry at how the book developed.

– spoilers –

i have super conflicted feelings about this book. i started Ven with the lowest expectations possible, because i read a couple of reviews that said that Ven is a rapist and sadly i don't disagree. BUT it's more complicated than that. now you're asking how? someone is either a rapist or not.

the v games series is a mafia series and it's without a doubt the wildest and darkest mafia book i've read so far. from the beginning it is stated that these powerful families deal in a lot of dubious business like human trafficking. they buy women, train them to be seductresses and then sell them to whoever wants them. that act alone is pretty unredeemable for a hero in a romance book, but we're talking about mafia so i guess i can live with that somehow.

now, i was really curious about how the 'rape' scene is going to play out.
a bit of background info : Diana just lost her baby (spoiler for book 1: she had an 'affair' with Anton her bodyguard and it's his child), she lies heartbroken in the hospital and is angry at everyone but especially Ven's father, cuz that bastard is the one who kicked her repetitively in the stomach and therefore killed the baby. when Ven comes to the hospital, Diana ,in her sorrow and anger, pushes him away and tells him that she was only with him to protect the baby and that everything they had was fake and that she never loved him.

yada yada, Ven is devastated, because he really loved her. after that incident he honestly didn't give a single fuck and let his monster out. there is some drama with a guy who betrayed their family, so basically Ven and his cousins kidnapped the daughter, Kira, of that guy for leverage. they put her in a cell and give her drugs that makes her super horny to make her a 'whore'. it is all part of their plan to get her father out of his hiding. because of the drugs Kira begs Ven and his cousins to fuck her. the cousins double penetrate her and Ven gets a blowjob, the whole scene is pretty disgusting ngl. OW drama is always annoying but the way Kira was punished for her father sins, yeah that ain't it! innocent people shouldn't been punished for their parents mistakes! period.

maybe i'm really out here grasping for straws, but i was glad that Ven 'only' got blown and didn't fuck Kira in that scene. honestly i'm not excusing his behaviour. what they did to Kira was disgusting and inhuman, i'm just so sad because up until everything blew up i really liked Ven 😭. he treated Diana like a queen, like an equal and with so much respect, but then the separation happened and the book literally when down the drain. mourning for the potential this book could have.

i'd like to think the 15% in the middle of the book where Ven let his monster out didn't happened. this book was wild... guys the amount of women who got raped in this book from different guys 😦
this book gave twisted and dark romance a new meaning.

“A lion doesn’t ask permission to eat”

Volcanic.
Victorious.
Valiant.
Vetrov.

In a world where fathers decide how the marriage of their children will benefit their empires, Ven and Dianna were never meant to be.

I am Veniamin.
Volcanic. Victorious. Valiant. Vetrov.
When you enter my world to play games, prepare to lose.
In the end, I always find the thorn in my side, and I pluck it right out.

Growing up among the crime family of the bearded vultures, Veniamin (Ven) Vetrov is the heir of the Vetrov empire. As the successor of one of the in the powerful first families, he has been groomed to upheld the honor and reputation of the family crest. Ven has dutifully performed his father's bidding until he finds his purpose in life and designs his own path to what he craves the most.

Diana Volkov feels Dead. Empty. Hollow. Gone. Disgraced and discarded she has hardened herself, is filled with hatred. Being a woman in a male dominated crime syndicate she has proved her worth but was never acknowledge. “I was just discarded after being sent off to marry someone I didn’t love. I was just supposed to fall in line and do as I was told, and when I broke the rules, my life became dirt. Everything I’d worked to become, every dream I had, was washed away.”

I am Diana Volkov.
My vines are thorny and tangled and never-ending.
A beautiful, delicate rose on the surface, but a vicious monster underneath.
Not killable.
Ruthless.
I’ll spread like a disease and infect them all.
The game has just begun.

I knew way back when I was sixteen, staring up at the man I secretly loved and adored, that was not the hand I’d been dealt. My hand was a deck full of kings, and I was the queen who had to be on top.

Told from alternating POVs between Diana & Ven book 2 in this series is fast paced, it is thrilling and will keep you on the edge. I finished in one sitting!

This beast, my king, has conquered his queen.

And now we wait for book 3:

Ven was everything I was expecting and more!

description

Welcome to the world of the Russian Mafia First families. Ven is the heir to the Vetrov empire and like all the first families, their business is of the dark and illegal variety. Ven Vetrov, my bearded alpha male hero completely charmed me! He has had his eyes set on Diana Volkov from she was a teenager. She was always his rose but she was promised to another. However, now things have changed...

At the start of this book Diana has brought shame and disgrace on her family. Her father has turned his back on her and her once betrothed has shunned her. However, this is a heroine of strength and she picks herself up and proves herself worthy. I don't want to give anything away but just know that against all odds, she put to shame all the men that were fighting to put her down. I freaking love women like Diana! Bad ass, sexy and doesn't need a man to prove her worth.

description

The chemistry between Ven and Diana is nothing short of explosive. Together they are the perfect king and queen of their dark empire. Of note, while this is not a problem for me

We finally get to experience the danger and thrill of the actual V-games in this book. We also meet a few new characters that I'm looking forward to reading about in future books. And while Diana and Ven get their HEA, THAT ENDING! GAH! I'm now dying for Vas's book! If you are looking for a sexy, dark mafia romance, I highly recommend this series.

Two of my favo authors working together.... again! As expected, I loved this book. The story of Ven (Veniamin) Vetrov and Diana Volkov. Wasn't particularly font of Diana in Vlad but in this book we see a different side of her; she is a very strong woman.... a Queen. Loved Ven, who is, just like Vlad, a powerful and ruthless King. Looking forward to Vas' story.

3* until we go down STARS!

description

Whyyy oh whyyy... The cover is such a turn off! *cough* Anyway, as the strongest, Vasiliev hold the power beside Vetrov and Volkov. After the ending of VLAD, we all know what happened with the families. But the plot thickens in this book...

As the eldest of Volkov, Diana supposed to married Vlad. But after the scandal between Diana and her bodyguard, she's a disgrace and pushed into join the V Games for the family's sake. Diana is all business with her smart thinking never thought to be banished. But the Vetrov's Prince, Veniamin aka Ven saved her life. Things tense between the families.

My first thought,... Seriously? Diana is like a fallen angel. Thrown away from her comfortable throne into devil's lair. I was disgusted with her action with the death bodyguard but not after she reveal her reason. Diana is protecting her sister, Irina. But it didn't end there. She wept and practically "useless" for most of the chapters. I lost interest with her life.

description

Ven... Oh, my... He was so weak. So pussy whipped with Diana's presence. In the previous book, Vlad described Ven almost like a God. Powerful. But here, Ven feels like an ordinary man. Every time he's with Diana, he turns into poet. Beautiful and pointless words. It almost like every chapter Ven worship Diana's beauty and power. Idk man... I just don't like it.

The romance makes wanna vomit; compare to Vlad. Why the fuck Ven turns VANILLA when he's with Diana. The sex was soooo PLAIN and BORING. No foreplay, no teasing. GAH! They kept like a lovey-dovey couple. Turns out Diana is longing for Ven since their childhood but I couldn't feel the chemistry. Anyway, Diana could be pretty ruthless too. She has secrets and Ven finally lost his shit. Bye, Princess!

I know Ven isn't the leader type and he looks uninterested with the illegal business. But the story... HOLY SHIT! With the betrayal from the other family, I enjoyed the V Games so much. Totally dark and gore. Back to the romance, Both Ven and Diana make mistakes and the grovelling is quite pathetic, but in the end they're together. Hmph.

The next book is about Vas, Diana's step-brother. I'm kinda rooting for him. Please don't ruin his story? Vas has minor role in this book, but definitely a major player. Vas is a protector also the one who help Diana into The V Games. Anyway, their plotting something predictable but the ending totally shocked me! *shudders*

After writing many books together and separately, it’s hard to fathom how these two keep coming up with such innovative, captivating characters and storylines. Regardless of how they do it, Dukey and Webster have once again created something extraordinary with VEN!

Although this book is named after Veniamin Vetrov (a character who is just as if not more powerful and sexy than Vlad), like the first book, this story is not just about Ven but also about the woman he loves, Diana. I loved getting to know Diana and seeing what a determined woman she was! “ Dirty and depraved. Strong and sexual.”

What Diana, Ven, Vika, Vas and the other fascinating characters go through (from drug-fueled orgies to slaughtering one another while fighting in The V Games) was anything but predictable and had me on the edge of my seat, eager to find out what would happen next!!! I met so many awesome characters, each of them rich in description, so incredibly well developed; I feel like I got to know them personally! I can’t wait to see how the series unfolds next!!!!

In the last book all of Diana's sins and foibles were exposed, and she was thrown to the Vultures as penance. Ven is the only thing keeping her from the scavengers of his family waiting to pick her apart. How can feelings be trusted, when power is imbalanced?

The Good:
description
1. This book is a villains’ paradise. The world is my Illuminati imaginings come to life. It is all very dark, and even the "good guy" shows his true self eventually.

2. In the last installment Diana was introduced as perfect: beautiful, business smart, and unafraid to use femininity as an advantage against the alpha males around her. This book strips all that bare, and we get to understand her on another level. This character's growth is what kept me invested even when the storytelling led me down roads I abhorred.

3. We finally get to see the V Games in action, which are an adult horror version of the Hunger Games. Every sexual and sadistic perversion is represented. These rich deviants put their family, and fortunes on the line in spectacular fashion.

4. This exceeded my icy, villainy fix I expect from my Russian mafia reads. Interesting new characters were introduced too. I can't wait for the ménage book Ven's cousins surely will get.

The Bad:
1. Ven is going to bother most romance fans with his actions. This goes darker than even this dark fan was ready for.

2. I felt the romance element didn't end in a realistic place in regards to the characters' head space. It felt rushed, and actually would have been okay if this ended in a cliffhanger and the wrap up occurred in the next book.

3. Prepare to be very triggered by everything explored. Women are treated as chattel in this world, no matter their station.

4. This book should be called The V Names. It made keeping up with so many characters hard, especially because most were also hard to pronounce.

Final Thoughts:
I read this as a buddy read in the The Mafia Connection group. Most found the characters supremely unlikable. A consensus I can agree with. I felt the writers did a great job of exposing character motivations. Even when I was horrified, was never confused about why something was happening. It felt realistic in the dark fantasy the authors' built. This won't be for everyone, but I'm definitely planning to follow them down the next dark road the series leads me on.

MALÍSIMO. Qué decepción! Esperaba tanto... y fue tan malo de principio a fin. No me gusta ella, no me gusta Vika, incluso no me gusta Ven y lo niña que se pone cuando se trata de ella.

I think this new series is one to be reckoned with. Wow! Women today in this world are making a mark for the 2100st century.

I am so enthralled with the commitment Diana upholds for her sisters happiness and livelihood. She endures the hardships and ugliness the underground mob puts her through. As I am reading her gross encounters my heart breaks all at once. The betrayal and abuse, she survives. It only makes her stronger and eager to claim justification for wrongs done to her.

Ven knows he made the mistake by not claiming her sooner. Now he has one goal and that is to claim and protect her by any means. But is it too late?

These characters are so well developed and defined to the story. The banter between them are funny and believable.

We also learn more about Vas 's mentality regarding siblings and honor. He has a story I cant wait to read. He honors his brotherly status with Diana who eventually warms up to. Because of this he moves ahead by helping Diana with her wounds and heartache. I love him for this.

Overrall, this book two is a must read. If you love mafioso family burdens and treachery this is your series to read. A dark romance that has everything you want.

Started out really strong, but I lost interested half way through the story. I wanted the story to go another direction, and was disappointed the way it went. It sometimes felt a bit forced and further down the story I started to get annoyed by the characters. Some of the things that happened in the story felt like it was almost impossible, and had me eye-rolling a couple of times. I had high expectations, but was sad to see they weren't met. Will I read the next book in the series? Depends on the blurb and main characters. I love Ker Dukey and K. Webster's books, so I'll probably give it another go.

Ven by K. Webster & Ker Dukey is book Two in The V Games series. This is the story of Diana and Ven. I have read the previous book and I do feel you will enjoy this one more if you read 'Vlad' first also. Diana and Ven were in the first book, but if you choose you can make this a standalone book.
In addition this is a Dark Romance that might not be for everyone, but for me I really enjoyed reading their story. Diana turns into a strong women who has been through allot. Vin is a strong alpha male who is starting to act on his feelings toward Diana.
This book was a quick read that was hard to put down.
