It's all fun and games until the mailman ends up murdered. Mag and Clara Balefire never expected their golden years to involve quite so many corpses, but Harmony, Maine, seems to have other plans. When the sleepy small town's least-beloved mailman is found bludgeoned with a golf club, nobody is exactly heartbroken—except maybe the sisters, since Mag was the last person seen arguing with him. With suspicion closing in and gossip spreading like wildfire, the Balefires are back in sleuthing mode. Clearing their name means catching the real killer, but that's easier said than done when half the town had motive and the other half won't stop whispering behind their backs. Meanwhile, the elderly head of the local coven is up to her old tricks—namely, wreaking magical havoc in the name of "helping." Between dodging death glares at the grocery store and trying to keep Hagatha's spells from exposing the entire coven, Mag and Clara must solve this murder before the killer takes another swing. In Harmony, everyone talks, but somebody's swinging for the fences. And this time, it's personal.
ReGina Welling writes witchy romantasy and paranormal romance filled with magic, destiny, and emotionally rich love stories.
Her novels are often set in small towns where ancient magic still lingers and the past refuses to stay buried. She enjoys exploring the pull of fate, the complexity of relationships, and what happens when love and power collide.
When she’s not writing about witches, spells, and slow-burn attraction, ReGina lives in Maine with her wonderful husband, a goofy flufferpup named Dash, and a feisty cat called Cricket.
So, I'm going to be perhaps a little too honest here. I only bought this book because the first one in the series was free, and I enjoyed it enough to want to support the authors. But I didn't quite enjoy it enough to actively pursue the series. As such, I didn't really plan on picking this book up, just leaving it in my collection.
Having read this book, though, I can happily say I was very much mistaken. Something about the dynamic between Mag and Clara hooked me this time around. They're both wonderful characters, and I am extremely impressed with the way their past is hinted at. Hagatha is also a complete delight, I would read an entire book about Hagatha and her antics. Elder witches who give zero fucks are wonderful.
The worldbuilding and the way magic is portrayed is also excellent. On the mystery side of things, you could say it's a little easy to guess, but it delivers hard on the cosy side of things, which is the far more important part for me.
I've already bought the next book in the series, and I am excited to continue and see what these brilliant witches get up to next.
However, I will add that like the first book, there were a number of spelling/grammar errors, but I understand that these things can slip through the cracks easily.
I really like reading about the two bickering witch sisters solving a murder mystery. They may bicker frequently, but they love each other and try to delve into each other's past in order to help each other. Mag's body aged beyond her years due to her past tracking and killing monsters. Clarie is reserved due to the trauma of being turned to stone for a quarter of a century. Together they are strong, formidable witches. And I love the truly elderly witch Hagatha. She is a hoot.
The local postman is stealing mail from his customers and blackmailing them as well. Sister witches Margaret and Clara Balefire find the postman 's dead body. One thousand year old Haggatha is importing pixies from Faeland. Something new to look forward to, enjoy!
Mag and Clara have another murder on their hands to solve. It is a wide selection to choose from as to who committed the crime. Also, keeping the head witch under control is almost a full-time job on its own. It was another terrific book with a lesson learned as well. I can't wait to dive into the next one in this series.
Anyone who enjoys an easy to read story with a cast of funny endearing characters will love this collection twitch mysteries. The ell developed stars will keep you entertained and ready for the next book.
Getting over their last case the two sisters are still trying to keep a lid on the Coven leaders antics. However the death of the local postal worker has them investigatin again. Was he going through the post and if so who had the most to gain by his murder? Blackmail, theft and magic are woven into another great read.
