Everyday I struggle with major depression. Everyday I feel unheard, ignored, and forgotten. There is little in life that truely brings me a sense of belonging and love. The people that understand me are few indeed. Limited to a handful of friends, my mother, and my therapist. But even with their love and support, I still hurt. I still felt...alone. It wasent until I bought this masterpiece that it all started to come together. Pop Team Epic is meaningless, nonsensical, and above all else...rebellious. This is the magnus opum of Bkub Okawa who takes the ideals of the absurdist to the extreme! It is only in the anti-humor of this 4 paneled comic collection that I've ever felt the most consoled, comforted, and sane. Pop Team Epic acknowledges that in our meaningless existence, the only way to confront our pain is to rebel against the absurdity of life and strive for the lives we want.
Tl;dr its a giant s**tpost where some of the comics might not make any sense to some readers, and this may or may not be funny.
Truly the epitome of Japanese literature. Upon completion of this divine absurdist artwork, you will be plunged into the abyss of despair as you realise that nothing will ever top this masterpiece. That is all.
Another one for my "humor?" category. I can see where this is trying to be absurdist humor, but it just doesn't work for me. At least the manga reminds me less of "Ren and Stimpy."
For instance, there was a panel with Migi from Parasyte, and the punchline seemed to be 'if you become Attack on Titan, you can become a popular edgelord series'. That was pretty fun if that's what it was, but it's not explicitly clear.
A hilarious, wacky manga. I had heard about Pop Team Epic from the anime and wanted to see how the manga was. The book is comprised of over 150 short comic stories (only 4 panels each) about the dynamic duo of Pop Team Epic. Most of it was funny, relatable and deliciously quirky. But some had sentences/references that I didn't get (even after living in Japan for 3 years). For example, strip #110 has one character go, "It's delicious in dungeon~!" But overall, cute, funny, and quick. Want to watch the show and read book 2!
This is pure chaos and it's exactly what I expect and want from Pop Team Epic. The references are a little difficult to understand if you're not familiar with cultural references and pop culture references in Japan, but it's nothing Google can't fix. It's absolutely absurd and hilarious. I'm so glad I already bought the second one.
Loved this almost as much as I enjoyed the anime. Unfortunately, some of the panels are lost in translation since they're oddball/bizarre rhymes. Would have really loved an extra few translator's notes!
I already read a lot of these strips that people had translated online soI knew going in that I would love it, but damn this is just a really good gag manga.
