" Immigration detention is worse than being in a straightjacket. I know, having at different times in life experienced both. " Voice-hearing, delusion, paranoia, Big Pharma, the end of a spectacular mining boom and immigration detention. This true story traces two years spent by Greg Ralls tapering off a powerful psychiatric drug, culminating in a terrifying seven weeks locked in London's Harmondsworth and Colnbrook IRCs - collectively known as Heathrow IRC - Europe's largest immigration detention centre. A book suitable for general readers and those with an interest in mental health, asylum seeking and modern-day immigration detention.
I read Asylum over a few days of intensive reading. I was really able to relate to Greg, having also spent time detained in the UK medical system.
Greg writes with an honesty which I can relate to. And he draws the reader in with colourful descriptions of his time in detention. I'm already a big fan.
