God has a purpose for your life, and every action or event that occurs within it has been used to make that purpose a reality.
The story of Esther appears to be a series of coincidences strung together to deliver the Jews from certain death. However, God selected Esther for a particular purpose at a particular time. Discover your own pathway to purpose through learning principles on providence as Tony Evans takes us on a journey of epic proportions.

This was such a phenomenal read! I've studied the book of Esther and read many books (non-fiction and fiction) about Esther and this is one of my favorites. I loved how Dr. Tony Evans really took his time to breakdown each chapter and how God was at work from beginning to end.
The book of Esther does not mention the name of God in any of the ten chapters, but to see God working through the story was amazing. Dr. Evans really makes the book relatable to "now times" and pulls you. He gives practical ways to live like Esther and Mordecai. He opens the eyes for seeing and understanding that God is always in control no matter how good or bad something may seem.
I loved the flow of writing. It was a seamless read and showed Dr. Evan's love and understanding of scripture. Definitely recommend it to those who love the book of Esther and to those who have yet to really study it.

I recently read Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado and I couldn't help but think of how well the 2 went together. Lucado says we don't need to be anxious because God is in charge and Evans shows us what that means and how we know it's true. Why did nobody teach me about God's providence when I was 20?
Once you understand the assurance of this doctrine of providence and how to remain in alignment with God under His rule, when things get worse in your life, you will no longer have to react to what you see. Rather, you can rest in the One you know who allowed it to happen. You can rest because you know He is up to something great. pg 178
Tony Evans is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
It has taking me 46 years to learn this stuff but it's so fundamental. Everyone should know and understand the doctrine of providence and then make the sacrifices to be close enough to God to follow it. I have been doing this for the last few years and this book as made me understand it all more clearly. I can't wait to see what God is doing for me and as for the sacrifices I gave up, I don't even notice they are gone. This is how every Christian should live.
Playwrights have scenes that bring the story to life. If you like reading a book that is like a play, but without the script of words from the actors, then this book is for you. Tony Evans, the author, is able to bring the verses from the Bible and stories to life with his words. Not only does this book feel like a devotional, but he also asks you rather thought-provoking questions to ponder over while reading.
One of my favorite books of the Bible is Esther. The author goes back to the story of Esther along with other stories from the NFL and Cinderella. Now it may sound weird how all of these stories would fit together. But the analogies and comparing his point to the stories will help you get a bigger picture of what he is trying to say. You can put yourself in the shoes of these stories and really feel the emotions. I love books that do this and the author did just that. If you are looking for your way through life through a life such as Esther's, then I highly recommend this book.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review from B & H Publishing Group/Lifeway. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
This book teaches about the Providence of God and His plans and purpose for each of us in our particular time.
A quote I loved from the book ~ "When I recently asked my dad what his advice would be to a new believer, he boiled it down to two simple, yet profound things. He said, "Study the Word of God to obey it, and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit."
A lesson from the book and the story of Esther I loved ~ "God is the God of divine reversals." So true. God can reverse what looks impossible, improbable and intimidating.
If you feel fearful in the challenges you face and your purpose seems small and your circumstances less than stellar, this book will encourage you to cling to God and trust His providence to guide you. Tony Evans brings us bold truth and a gracious look at God's Providence.
I received a copy of this book to review and all opinions are 100% my own.
I really liked this breakdown of the book of Esther and examination into the providence of God. I enjoyed the first half of the book more, as I could relate better to it but I really appreciated the concentration on who God is - His sovereignty and the reason He exists at all.
God does know the end before the beginning, but He also gives us the freedom of choice and knowledge of consequences - which shapes *how* He’s going to achieve His will. When He knows he can trust us with more, it makes Him want to give us more.
I loved being reminded that being blessed should not stop with one person, blessings should flow *through* us, not just *to* us. When you’re blessed with an abundance, your goal should be to determine how to use it to bless others.
The book did get a little slower in the second half for me, but it’s still a great read. 4 stars!
The best book of Gods providence explained and broken down using the book of Esther. God is a God of reversals! “God can change your circumstances with the flip of a switch.” There is no luck or coincidence or fate! It is all the hand of God in our lives. And when we learn to trust that, believe it and receive it, we can then learn to rely on His word and not our emotions. Or what things may “look like” in the natural. Man does not have the final say in your situation! GOD DOES!!! We all ask why. Why does God allow this or that, but when we are open to realizing the sovereignty of God we can understand HE HAS A BIGGER PURPOSE. Trust His timing. Trust His plan. When it feels absolutely hopeless, TRUST HIM. And never ever give up!🫶🏼
The premise of this book is simple. What we often may see as luck or coincidence speaks to a lack of understanding the providence of God and how purpose is filled thru our life circumstances. Tony Evans, is an amazing teacher in all venues rather that be preaching or writing about the principles of God or living a Christ centered life. This book is no exception as he took one of my favorite books of the bible, Esther, and shares how it captures this sovereign nature of God and us as his people. Written for the new believer, mature, or unbeliever who seeks to understand and live a purposeful life. Will go down as a must read list on my spiritual book list.
(I received a free copy from the publisher for a honest review) This book is about the book of Esther and just knowing that God is working behind the scenes. What I didn't enjoy was how the prologue was mostly all about football, and how he didn't fully focus on the book of Esther. But this book did have good things in it like how luck isn't real its God who chooses the out come (my own words).I liked how he wrote about the book of Esther it made me look at the book in a different perspective.
I got this as part of the leader pack that included the DVD and the study book. If you do the Bible Study book, this repeats a LOT of the stuff inside it. In addition, if you watch the videos and do the study, you do not need this at all. HOWEVER, if you are only doing this book, it is a very good read, and has a lot to offer. Told with some great stories as well as biblical verses, this really brings the book of Ester to life, and how it applies to YOUR life. Recommend on its own.
Evans packs a lot of biblical wisdom in this book centered on the story of Esther. Read carefully because Evans’s unassuming and anecdote-filled writing could lead to plowing through quickly. Instead, take your time and savor the golden tidbits scattered throughout. I picked up some excellent illustrations.
Wonderful exposition on the book of Esther. Dr. Tony Evans clearly demonstrates, through his exegesis and personal experiences, how God is sovereign over ALL. Dr. Evans reminds us to stay close to the Spirit, to walk close to God, so that we will walk in the purpose designed for us.
For years, I have followed this Pastor on the radio..Such a blessing to read one of his books, along with a greater understanding of a minor book in the bible.
This book accompanied a Bible Study that the men of my church were doing. I enjoyed Dr. Tony Evans teaching style. Also enjoyed participating in a study on the book of Esther.
I enjoyed it and underlined several parts but still left me feeling I didn't learn anything helpful or that I didn't already know. Recommend but not the best.
