Chris Thompson, the son of a Canadian woman and a male of an unknown intergalactic species, was born 39 years ago this past September. At the age of 10 two drastic things happened in his life: first, while completing a writing assignment for the fifth grade, he became enamored with the creative process (a two to three page story became an eight page epic tale of Ewoks and space battles and laser beams), and second, his mental powers manifested when, in 1985 he caused a power outage and storm that resulted in the 1985 Barrie, Ontario tornado systems, all because he did not want to eat liver for dinner.
Now, living in secret and kept locked away in the offices of a Canadian Telecom provider, he keeps his powers hidden from everyone and channels his hatred of ingesting organs into writing semi-daily drabbles, short stories, and slightly longer stories which he will finish one day (no, really).
My short story "Wormhole" is featured in this volume paying tribute to the late David Bowie. Just one of many excellent works by a number of talented authors.
The starting story, Savior Machine by David Court, was a heartwarming good introduction, and farewell scene.
I especially enjoyed Lazarus Rising by S.R. Manev, a Victorian-era story with intriguing magic.
Where One Ends, by Ben Boyd jr. was a moving tale of an astronaut who finds herself visited by Ziggy when she needs him most.
And the essay David Bowie: Glam Didn't Care for Heteronormativity, by Amy Lewanski, although repetitive at points, was an interesting exploration in how David's gender play freed us to consider gender in ways other than binary.
I won't review it, but I have a story in this book, too: House of Secrets, in which a girl rejected by her family is saved by a kindly man in a strange house by an amusement park. Can it be too good to be true? And what are the secrets this house seems to hide?
I am proud to say that my story, House of Secrets, is in this anthology...which includes many, many great writers also inspired by the art, music and characters of David Bowie.
