When I saw this book come up for review I knew the perfect young lady to share it with. Bonus that she was interested in helping to review it as well! Jennifer is a young lady of fourteen, who is very engaged with her spiritual growth and walk with God. She is open to the world of possibilities that her faith has to provide to her and the enjoyment and joy she finds in life, and God, is contagious and engaging. She is a kind, gentle soul that is filled with encouragement and grace. Obviously, I'm pretty fond of this young lady and I am super excited to bring her to the blog today. We are reviewing a year long devotional/journal aimed specifically at young ladies such as herself. Obviously, we aren't going to wait a year to do this review so we've agreed to each look at at least 5 random days and compare notes. Much like I have done with Minion review before, I'm going to share her thoughts and takeaways from this book as well as my own. The rating however? All hers!

Jennifer really enjoyed this book with her information following. I loved how the scripture was the example and reference point as so many other devotionals I've had were based more off the authors life experiences of that of a fictional character. There were a few times I got confused with what to write in the journal part. Sometimes with verses that I was familiar and comfortable with I felt like the provided devotion part covered my takeaway (Day 199). Other times I was introduced to scripture that I wasn't as familiar with and they really spoke to me (Day 194).

From my perspective I also loved this book. I feel like the devotional and journal together is something that you can carry with you throughout life. The ability to go back and read where you were at, say 14, as an adult is intangible. To see your growth and perspective change with life experience and growth. Each devotional was rooted in the scripture but was also set up to encourage the reader to go back and explore more of the scripture than just the shared verse for that devotional. To be fair, as mentioned above, I didn't read every single day. However, each time I opened the book to dig in a little I started at day 25, no matter where I was aiming it was day 25. Day 25 bothered me a bit. The scripture reference was based on Hagar when she was running from Abraham and Sarah and the angel appeared to her and told her to return and submit to Sarah. The devotional portion of this talked about how we should submit to those in authority such as our parents, teachers, leaders, government, etc but that we should not be bound to do things that did not follow God's law. It also talked about how we should not submit ourselves to abuse. The thing is, when looking at that through younger eyes I feel like it's a setup for possible disaster. When in an abusive situation (like Hagar) many times the victim believes they are the one at fault and therefore should submit to their abuser . . . See where I'm going here? Out of all the devotions in this book I kept ending up at this one and feeling like we weren't setting clear examples and expectations to protect our young women (and even aged women) from the tentacles of abuse. However, of the many that I looked at that is also the only devotion that gave me pause. Overall, I feel like this is a great devotional for any young woman regardless of where she is with her walk with God. It's a good way to provide scriptural depth to someone new to her faith while still being able to deepen spiritual depth for someone so very grounded in their faith. I would highly recommend this for any young woman in your life.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by FlyBy. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

This book is for you if... you are a woman of God, you are (or know) a woman in her teens and twenties, you are looking for a devotional about what God says about women in the Bible

My Thoughts:

I love that this devotional speaks to women specifically, highlighting the way God wired us uniquely.

“Your identity as a woman matters to God, beloved daughter, so let’s see what He has to say about it.”

It’s geared toward girls ages 16-25, but it has some great insights for all women. (And it’s perfect to share with the young females in your ministry or family!)

It’s a topical devotion that uses stories of women in the Bible to encourage faith and confidence in young women. It talks about topics like relationships, inner beauty, and pursuing your goals.

Each day includes a short passage of Scripture about a girl in the Bible and a devotional that helps girls think about the passage. It also includes a couple of journaling lines so girls can respond or pray in writing.

I like that it leaves space for journaling and that it walks through full stories of the women in the Bible. For example, even though it doesn’t cover the entire book of Esther, it still focuses on Esther for almost 3 weeks.

The only thing I’d change would be the colors. There’s A LOT of pink in this devotional, but it’s still pretty to look at. 🙂

*I received a free advanced reader’s copy of this Bible in exchange for sharing an honest review. Thanks to Handlebar Publishing for the opportunity.

“Thankfully, the Bible has so much more to say about the unique challenges – the heartaches and the high points – of being female.”

Finding time for a daily devotional is often a New Year’s resolution. Some books and devotionals can make this resolution easier to follow. Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women is a very easy to use devotional for those who want to start the habit of reading the Bible daily. The devotional focuses on more than 60 women in the Bible, some named, some unnamed, and shows how their lives can help young women today live a Godly life.

I requested to review this book as part of the Handlebar review team as I thought it might be a good devotional for one of my children. I was given a free copy in exchange for a fair review.

Each page has a short Bible passage and a devotional that is just a few paragraphs long. Each devotional is contained on one page and has some room as the bottom of each page for the reader to jot down notes. There is a ribbon bookmark, too. I think most young women high school age or older would enjoy this devotional, especially if she’s just getting started. The only downside to this edition is there is no date on the pages, just day 1, day 2, etc. It may be easy to lose track of the day unless you write the date on the page somewhere. Also, there would be a day missing in a Leap Year.

Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women is an attractive foil embellished hardcover book with one-page devotions and corresponding Scripture verses and journaling areas.

I love the premise and the simplicity of this book. Young women face so many challenges and may be misinformed or confused about where their paths should take them. Each daily entry helps young women learn about a biblical girl or woman, and gleans wisdom from their examples.

The daily readings can easily be read in a few minutes, and the journaling space gives the reader an opportunity to reflect on the inspirational story. Pages are two-toned, with an elegant and mature floral design. The conversational tone is a big plus—making the reading fun, rather than a school-like task.

Beloved is approximately 5” x 7.5” and includes an attached ribbon bookmark. It is designed for young women, but suitable and relevant for any age.

Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women from Zondervan will make a great gift for yourself or for the young women in your life. It's beautiful on the outside with a lovely cover, sturdy hardback cover, pretty colored pages on the inside and a ribbon bookmark. As you turn the pages more, you'll realize the beauty of this devotional is not just on the physical side, but what's within. Topics from relationships to goals and dreams, to self love and inner beauty will encourage and inspire readers. As the title states, Beloved is focused for females, providing examples with stories featuring females in the Bible. Add in a daily verse, and area to take down notes and thoughts, it will not only be a great daily reminder and inspiration, but also a journal of the reader's thoughts.

In all, Beloved is it. Time to share it with love.

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion. For the full disclosure of this blog, please see my disclosure page.

A great story of encouragement and inspiration usually brings more encouragement and inspiration. This new devotional has just that! Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women use stories like those of Ruth, Esther, Mary, and Abigail from the Bible to help us see more clearly on the topics of inner beauty, being who God made us to be, and relationships. Each day has a devotion, scripture verse about a biblical girl or woman, and some journaling space to reflect on the message and topic of the day. Not everyone has positive and great role models in their life, and this is a great start to figuring out how to live out your life for Christ.

This beautiful devotional is perfect for today's teen girls. The devotions are super short, but still meaningful. I love how it started in the old testament and worked it's way to the new testament. Not in chronological order, but still progressively. Each devotion building on the last. Teaching young women that they are beloved by God.

Had to stop reading when the author claimed that The queen famous for murder was the best ruler.

Originally posted on Creative Madness Mama.I have to admit that one thing I look forward to as the new year turns around is not a diet plan or resolutions but starting a new planner and devotional. For the last several weeks, my oldest daughter and I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend time dwelling within the pages of this gorgeous hand-sized hardcover with satin ribbon devotional. These 371 pages in Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women contain 365 devotionals to take you through the year from Zondervan.

At first, AppleBlossom was set on not starting until the new year, but I had to convince her that wouldn't go over very well as far as writing a review was concerned. She asked where I was within my personal readings and I told her that I had been skimming and skipping around a bit to get a better idea of what to tell people who wanted to know what the book was like. Her response was along that lines of, "...but what if you miss something important?!" She was eager to jump in, but wanted to make sure she gave it its due.

While the targeted age audience for these devotions for young women is 13-18 years old, my daughter (9.5 and a very advanced reader) has been able to enjoy the few devotionals she has read through. As have I, and I'm a decade and some beyond that target as well. This little book has so much to offer in its beautiful cover and durable pages to help any woman read through topical devotions and truly find their identity as a beloved woman of Christ.

A digital preview is available on the book-specific website as linked in the first paragraph if you would like to peruse the first several devotions. In the preview, one can see the beautiful illustrations that line the borders of each page and see the white space available with lines below perfect for doodling or journaling along as you journey through the inspiration left to us by women of the Bible from Esther, Ruth, Naomi, Mary, Leah, Rachel, Abigail, Sarah and more. Yet the devotions are not only on the females as there is plenty of material from the men in their lives as well.

BELOVED is a collection of 365 devotions geared toward young women to remind them that they are important in the eyes of God, regardless of culture, history, or circumstances.

This would be a lovely giftbook for a young lady in your life for either her birthday, Christmas, or a just because I love you gift. I would like this available in KJV for that crowd, but it does have the NIV for verses which is widely accepted.

The devotional does include the women mentioned above but also includes Dinah, Haggar, and others. There is a verse, the devotion, and lines to write your thoughts, a prayer, or whatever comes to mind.

I like this beautifully done devotional - one for each day of the year. Pick up a copy for your favorite young lady today.

Available now.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

This is an absolutely beautiful book and such a pleasure to behold. Compact yet full of short, enriching readings that will give your young woman (daughter, grand-girl, neighbor, niece) that important boost to help her see just how special she is to God. How beloved she is.

Each reading has a few blank lines at the end where your young woman can record her thoughts, feelings of being blessed or beloved, her insecurities, her feelings of strength, her fears, her challenges, her requests to God. Whatever!

Unabashedly feminine with the pinks and spots of gold this book is a beauty to behold. Just as your young woman is a beauty to behold.

The focus is girls and women in the Bible; and the well known ladies in the Bible are featured as well as those obscure, barely mentioned which lends credence to the value and purpose of each and every one of them. They are in the Bible. They are valued by God. Your young lady is valued of God as well. Inspire her to see her value in this world and especially to God.
