Syx and the City 1 & 2

Rate this book
The odds of Syx Rouge, aspiring fashion illustrator and current assistant to world-renowned vocalist, Amiyah Mallard, indulging in an unsolicited, overly pleasurable, steamy night with a man like Trough were slim to none. However, a slight turn of events redirected the odds in her favor. Ultra-sexy and centric Syx was at her wits end. Her New Year's celebration had been strategically planned since her older sister, Sevyn, faced her fears and relocated to the Big City. In New York surrounded by laughter, love, music, drinks and the thrill of the people is where Syx desperately wanted to be. Yet, she found herself missing the very last flight bound for the Big City and stranded in Atlanta, GA. A hint of fate scrambled her way as she returned home after discovering her plans were shot. Amiyah Mallard, with her own agenda in mind, forces her husband to give Syx a lift, compliments of his private plane. A slew of unexpected, yet fortunate, occurrences leaves Syx dazed and confused after waking up on New Year's Day in unknown territory, on a dangerously comforting mattress, tangled in Italian sheets with her beloved boss's life partner. Trough Mallard.

Noooow everything makes sense!!!!! Idk if I should blame Goodreads or Audible but these books are mislabeled so I listened to the audio for book 2 thinking it was book 1. Anywho that’s neither here nor there. I loved me some Trough and Syx so finally getting the ACTUAL beginning of how their relationship came about turned this series up a notch!

After catching her boss cheating on her husband, Syx was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Deciding to put that temporarily behind her, she’s off to NYC to ring in the new year with her sissy. She had no idea that her boss’s husband was hip to his wife’s foolishness and no longer had to fight the desires he’s had for her during the entire year she’s been employed with them. Out with the old in with the new 🤷🏽‍♀️

Anxious to see how the series continues in book 3

Series 4.5⭐️ and 2.5🌶️ - “Syx and the City” 6 novellas and 1 book

It’s Christmas and you’re headed to NYC to visit your sister, however, you catch your boss in a compromising position with a man who is not her husband. And by New Years, you might know what her husband is like in bed. 🫣😬

Syx is a travel assistant for Amiyah Mallard, world-renowned vocalist. However, she’s also an artist who not only paints, but designs and makes her own clothes, specifically formalwear.

Trough Mallard, Amiyah’s famous record producer husband, wanted us to believe he was grumpy, and he was, but only because he couldn’t have who/what he wanted. Syx. How would that look? Scandalous. A chance to fly her to NYC on his private jet during bad weather turned into a whirlwind for these two.

Syx is definitely one of my favorite FMCs from Grey. The guilt she felt in certain situations was real. The feeling of being abandoned by the one you care about and love, felt genuine. But Trough was a married man and I appreciated that they were mature enough to know what they wanted from each other, just couldn’t be. Syx didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams and Trough didn’t let it stop him from saying her name in the right rooms to help her dreams, even if he couldn’t have her heart. 🤎

I also loved that we were here to witness the love story between Syx’s sister Sevyn and her love Ace. I definitely cried. 🥺 The relationship between the sisters was comforting and needed with such an emotional story.

I was introduced to Grey’s work through her novellas a few years ago and I highly recommend them because she knows how to tell a complete, heart grabbing story in a short amount of time. This series is one I’ll definitely put on my shelf. 🤎
✨Forbidden Love
✨Cheating (justified?🤔)

Love the continuation of this series! This installment delved more into the characters, which made the story more engaging and enjoyable. I’m excited to move on to the next one and see where it goes.

Rating 3.5 ⭐️ Book Review for Book Two

The drama, the pace, the passion Grey did not let up in book two!

Trough is not playing about Syx. He said “divorce” and meant it papers filed, house cleared and he’s making moves like a man who knows what (and who) he wants. His energy is grown, intentional and unapologetic. That man is locked in and Syx is clearly in his line of sight.

Syx and Trough’s chemistry continues to burn quietly but deeply it’s not just lust, it’s something real, forming fast but rooted in understanding. Let’s not sleep on Syven and Ace. Their presence adds another layer and depth to this series. I’m loving how their storyline is unfolding in the background, giving us more than just one couple to obsess over.

Just when a new beginning is in Syx's grasp… here comes the chaos. That paparazzi moment 😳. One snap is all it takes to change everything. The fallout from that picture is about to shake things up and I’m bracing myself because we know Grey doesn’t shy away from conflict or heartache.

This series is giving emotionally charged, beautifully messy and real grown folk energy. Book two just proved that Syx and the City is more than just a situationship it’s a whole mood.

This was super short a sweet. After a night of passion turns into you’re fired and come get your stuff. I felt every emotion with Syx. Baby girl was put through it. She was just trying to do her job and mind her business. She allowed a night of passion putting her morals aside. Trough was a walking contradiction even if I understood his reasoning. The way you walk out on someone not understanding the deeper damage. Then to get her sister pulled into the mess and his cousin. This was playing with people’s hearts and emotions. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series because if I know anything Grey Huffington will have me loving these men by the time it’s all said and done so I’ll be easy on Trough and Ace for now so they can redeem themselves.

Strictly for part 2..

Omg who got the picture?!!! And I need Syx to get it together like I know he’s still technically married but girl he don’t want her. I can’t get over how Trough been wanting her and was faithful so he never pursued her or was in a space where he’d even get close enough to her. I love how their dynamic is shaping but I want more.

So on to book 3, I’m hoping by book 5, they’ll be in a solid relationship, maybe married with a baby. Syx deserves happiness and I want that for her!

This was a cute novella I’m working my way through the series. Grey huffington has a way of pulling you in and drawing you to these characters. I hope in the books to come syx can make new your work for her because who would have thought that her and trough had the same feelings, I’m intrigued to find out. Syx has a sister named sevyn who also finds a little love interest so that’s something else to look forward to.

This story is building rapidly and I love it. Don’t let your employees catch you cheating on your spouse. Invited her in to live, she has inner thoughts of your spouse, she sees you on your knees in front of a man that is not your spouse, spouse knows what you’re doing and is letting employee know it’s okay for them to do it because, he knows of your transgressions. SMH. So good and done in a build you up, ride this wave kind of way.

Amiyah was foul to cheat on her husband Trough in their home with her backup singer Grammar and tried to threaten Syx when she caught them. Syx was attracted to Trough and he was attracted to her but they both hid their attraction for over a year until one intoxicated night in New York City.

Part 2 of Syx and Trough was just as juicy as part 1! They are playing a dangerous game with the paparazzi always lurking but Trough is determined to win Syx over by any means necessary! I have to see what happens next!

Loved this little series! Can’t believe there’s more books to devour in this world! Love the characters, love the urban contemporary vibes, and most importantly I love the romance and the “head over heels” love that the characters are immersed in!

This review is primarily for book 2 of the series!

These short stories are perfectly paced. Although I didn’t agree fully with Trough, I saw his heart and he still stood 10 toes by putting her on!

GH never fails to write A MAN.

Read both books. 50 pages of eehhh. It’s amazing to see how far G.H has come in her writing cause today’s books are a thousand times btr than these early ones. I skipped a lot of the unnecessary words in this book though so that part has not changed.

Oh Syx. What a hopeless romantic. You always come up with the most creative character names and the Syx and the City series is one of my favorites. 💜
