Aunque este libro es muy grande y agotador, su lectura es una experiencia que nos lleva por el continente asiático, desde las islas indonesias hasta las islas mediterráneas griegas. En esta obra hay una gran descripción de costumbres, etnias, ciudades y religiones, entre otros temas que resultaban completamente desconocidos para los europeos del siglo XVII.

"[...] hay entre aquellas casas dos iglesias una Latina de los Francos en que ministra un fraile Francisco Italiano: y otra de Griegos que ministra un Caloyro religioso Griego. Queden allí tres vicecónsules, uno Veneciano, otro Francés, y el tercero Inglés, sujetos a sus consules de Aleppo. [...] Es grande el concurso de naves a este puerto, porque demás de las Venecianas, Francesas e Inglesas que de ordinario vienen a ello, frecuentan muchas Carasumales, que son ciertas embarcaciones muy semejantes a nuestras Caravelas Portuguesas, que allí vienen de Egipto, Alejandría, Tripol, Cypro, Candia, Constatinopla [...]"
