Angie thinks she has found the love of her life. All goes well until she starts getting phone calls from a sultry woman and realizes her man is cheating. She decides to take matters into her own hands and confront the two lovers. After all, what could possibly go wrong?
After an early retirement, Maura Beth is thrilled to return to her childhood love - writing stories. In addition to writing, she enjoys reading, watching old movies, rummaging in thrift shops, walking her bossy but adorable spaniel, and, of course, reading. She has studied Reiki and is a believer in positive thinking, serendipity and second (or third or fourth) chances.
“The Ex Chronicles” is a quick read that had me laughing out loud. Angie is headed home to her parents while she shares how a relationship ended badly with the reader. The descriptions were vivid, and although a serious topic, the humor came strongly through. Angie sees the world like a happily ever after movie, but reality pushes its way in with humorous results. A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.
Author Maura Beth Brennan will make you laugh and cry in the same sentence. The tale of Angie, with her loves with twists, is not unusual. The character development of both Andie and Bryce is good. Angie is hugable from start to finish. I enjoyed the arch of the story from the beginning to the surprising yet gratifying ending.
The flair of this writing is distinctive and enjoyable. Author Brennan has a way of making me smile. It all started at the beginning.
"IT’S NOT TRUE THAT you can’t go home again. You can, although you may not always want to. I don’t mean home for the holidays or a weekend with the folks. I mean a tail-between-the-legs, yes-you-were-right, look-at-me-I-failed kind of going home. The kind that ranks right up there with root canals and Brazilian waxes. Ouch.”
I highly recommend this short story as one to make you laugh as well as introduce you to a delightful author.
“The Ex Chronicles” is a humorous short story about a couple named Angie and Bryce.
When Angie met Bryce, she thought she had found Mr. Right. She fell madly in love with him, only to find out he was cheating on her.
Believing their relationship was worth fighting for, Angie designs a plan to confront her boyfriend and the other woman. All the while, old black-and-white movies played in her head, and she imagined herself as one of the heroines starring in the movies, so she figured everything would turn out as she planned.
Unfortunately, things did not play out as Angie had hoped, and her antics will have you rolling with laughter.
I enjoyed author Maura Beth Brennan’s sense of humor and writing style. I recommend this quick and fun read to anyone who’s been in a bad relationship and only has a moment to spare.
The Ex Chronicles is a thoroughly enjoyable short story which showcases the author's fabulous writing style and entertaining sense of humour.
Angie has gone home to her mother, much against her will, following the disastrous ending of a recent romance. Her interactions with her overbearing but well meaning mother are extremely funny and set the tone for this story. Angie has fallen head-over-heels for a gorgeous chap and moved in with him quite quickly. She starts being harassed by a mysterious woman and quickly comes to realise that Bryce is having an affair. Angie decides to take matters into her own hands to force him to chose [her] and ends up in a difficult situation.
This is a super short story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The situation the narrator, Angie, finds herself caught in - a love triangle - is believable. Although it is a heartbreaking event, the author managed to make it humorous. When Angie suspects that her perfect man is cheating and is determined to catch him, she does. But, when the confrontation doesn't turn out like the scenario she's played out in her head, she is left humiliated with nothing to do but return home with her tail tucked between her legs, so to speak. This is a short but enjoyable read.
I absolutely loved this short story! The narrator's voice was so vivid in my mind, and she had me cracking up the whole time. Her imagination of what would happen versus the reality of what went down was just hilarious! This is about a woman who finds herself in a relationship with a guy who is cheating on her and her plan to confront the other woman and get her man back, soap opera-style. If you are looking for a short read that will have you chuckling throughout the whole story, this is the one for you! I will definitely read more books from this author. Her writing style is great! :-)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading THE EX CHRONICLES by Maura Beth Brennan. Angie suspects her boyfriend is cheating and she takes steps to catch him in the act. The author's sense of humor was evident throughout the short story. A couple of times I thought I was reading a Stephanie Plum story, especially when Angie and her mother had discussions.
When exposed, it doesn't go the way she planned. However, she does have the last laugh when 'cheating' results in Karma for the other 2/3rds of the triangle. Highly recommended for a quick and entertaining easy read.
This is a short and funny story. Indeed, a tail-between-the-legs sort of story, to paraphrase the author. Evangelina, or Angie, as she loved to be called, met her prince charming, whom she did not name, but referred to as Bryce. She fell head over the hill for him, but he was cautious. She was too fast to believe and act, but he was clearly double-dealing her.
In the end, we saw that everything hidden will eventually be exposed. Angie should have listened to her mother in the first place.
Angie decides to confront her boyfriend and his mistress... What could go wrong? Well, read and find out. Pleasant short story - pay attention to its description; it has but 23 pages - packs a comical punch, and most of the blows land directly on the narrator; luckily, Angie's bruised ego pales in comparison to the consequences faced by her cheating man. I enjoyed this quick, entertaining bedtime read.
When Angie met Bryce she believed he was her soul-mate and true love. The author writes with humor and honesty showing that Bryce was not the perfect man originally portrayed. This is a delightful short story.
I finally got the chance to read and review this short and before I knew it, it was over. That's the shortest read and I was grateful. Having come out of eye surgery, it was good for me.
It was the standard love triangle and how Angie, the main character reacted to it. The ending was --well, let's just say you have to read it to find out. It made the story a worthwhile read.
