Baas and Roedie Cantin live on the desert sand planet Kaskoon with their father Olossky. When their father is taken prisoner by the BlueMar Empire, the two brothers set out on a quest across the galaxy in search for him. They soon join in a fight to destroy the BlueMar Empire. Later, embarking on a mission to explore uncharted regions, they come across an advanced civilization. Their journey takes them through time to another galaxy where they defeat yet another evil empire. The group splits and some remain in the new galaxy, while the others return back through time to their own galaxy. An investigation takes them into the past to an ancient kingdom to find out the coordinates of a device they must destroy before it destroys the entire BlueMar Galaxy.

Generations later, the galaxy is littered with terrorist organizations and the evil descendants of Baas. Roedie travels to the future to help his great great grandson, Destin, defeat the evil and restore freedom to the galaxy.

A time of peace has finally arrived. The advent of new inventions makes space travel quicker between galaxies and provides protection for both galaxies against the certain doom of an alien onslaught.

Lightyears Trilogy is an ambitious science fiction work that leans fully into the scope and imagination that define the genre.

Troy D. Wymer constructs a narrative that spans not only galaxies but generations, blending space opera with time travel in a way that emphasizes continuity and consequence. The story moves beyond a simple quest structure, evolving into a multi-layered exploration of legacy—how actions ripple across time and shape the future.

What stands out most is the scale of the storytelling. The transitions between planets, timelines, and conflicts are handled with a clear intent to build a universe that feels expansive rather than episodic. The inclusion of generational arcs adds depth, allowing the narrative to explore not just immediate stakes, but long-term impact.

The pacing reflects the breadth of the story, balancing moments of action with broader developments in the overarching conflict. There is a strong sense of progression, as the narrative continually expands its scope while maintaining a central thread of purpose.

For readers who enjoy space opera, time-travel narratives, and stories that embrace large-scale world-building, Lightyears Trilogy offers a sweeping and imaginative journey across both time and space.

The story was good, but there were so many names to remember. It may have helped to have the family tree before the sections and not after.

Lightyears Trilogy by Troy D. Wymer is a science fiction story with a very complex plot. The story transports readers to a desert planet called Kaskoon. Here Olossky is taken prisoner by a powerful empire called the BlueMar. His children, Baas and Roedie, set out in search of him, a search that takes them through different galaxies and timelines. The reader is introduced to a story of adventure where a lot of things happen, where a lot could go wrong, where villains scheme the downfall of planets, and where the destiny of a people could depend on a very small device. Follow the heroes of this tale as they move through space and time to solve crises like terrorist threats in other galaxies, many generations into the future, and back in time to an ancient kingdom to decipher coordinates of a deadly device capable of reducing an entire galaxy to dust.

The author makes it clear from the opening pages that space and time are infinite and then proceeds to create a story with infinite possibilities, taking the reader on wonderful and dizzying rides through time and space. The setting is well-imagined and it is painted with vivid images, allowing readers to form an idea of the place and the time in which the action takes place. It’s interesting how the author employs technology and even if what he writes about is fictitious, it is hard not to feel as though it were real, thanks to the author's storytelling craft and precision in prose. Troy D. Wymer’s characters are real and likeable and readers can easily connect with them. Great and powerful conflicts, strong plot points, and exotic settings are elements that make Lightyears Trilogy an awesome read.
