Minor grammatical errors. Macey’s known Brock and Payton since high school. Payton is her best friend and Dallas is Brock’s best friend. Brock and Dallas were one year ahead of Payton and herself. Dallas tried to get cosy but she didn’t want to be another conquest. He went off to college with a football scholarship, and then onto the police academy. Her Nursing programme consumed her...in the interim, she dated.

The setup begins with Dallas outlining her ex’s faults and her being dismissive. We learn she lives in an unsafe neighbourhood, her alarm is nearly twenty years old, and her locks aren’t secure. Her windows offer no security and it makes complete sense to leave a couple open at night.
“I leave one open because it’s hot,” I called.

There was a lack of chemistry between Dallas and Macey.

Bruce Daniels:::
Bruce and Macey did not date for very long, and it ended pretty amicably, especially considering I broke up with him.”
“Trust me, Mace. He’s got money and power behind him and he’s not the
great guy you think he is. Jim and Mona Daniels are degenerates who bought their way into office and raised their son to be just like them.”
“He’s not right.”
“He’s fine, he still calls every now and then, and he’s really nice.” He frowned.

Awakening from her rape, she is angry, numb, helpless as she retreats from everyone, a scarred and bitter shell of her former self.

She tries to resume her life, to re-establish her daily routine in an effort to regaining control of her life and suppressing her feelings. Understandably, she continues being anxious with mood swings as she lashes out at Payton and Dallas with recurring nightmares.

Why was Bruce in the waiting room and why did she feel fear hearing his name?

The man who raped Macey, Don...was Bruce’s Great-Uncle, his mother, Mona’s uncle.

Macey is an impetuous idiot that leads with her emotions rather than logic. She was instructed to keep a low profile, so what does she do...ring Payton, disclose their location, endangering everyone, including Payton. Macey made utterly stupid decisions.

“Those lights, Macey? They’re in the form of flashlights held by men who found that house because you called Payton. I’m going to say this one more time, Macey, and then this conversation is over. None of this is a joke. Someone wants to hurt you. When you called Payton, you set in motion that, and the reason we are sitting in this car and not already on the road back to Portland is because I need you to see just how serious this is. So, until we know why, you don’t call anyone, you don’t see anyone, and you sure as hell don’t put yourself where you’re ‘getable.’ Got me? Do you get me?” he repeated.
I nodded.

“Brock? Where did Dallas go?” I asked.
“He needs to cool down, babe.
“He’s that mad?”
“Honey, he’s petrified,” Payton said, and sat beside me. “If he hadn’t got
you out…”
“I get it,” I whispered.
“Do you?” Brock challenged.
“Don’t you start, too.”
“What the hell were you thinking calling Payton?”
“I needed to talk to my best friend, Brock! It’s what you do when you’re
pissed at your boyfriend and need to verbally process.”
“Well, that conversation could have gotten both of you killed,” he said.
“Brock,” Payton warned.
“No, Payton. Macey, you need to hear this. What you did was stupid and
selfish, not to mention, dangerous.”
“I know.”
“Do you?” he challenged.
I scowled at him. “Yes, Brock, I know, okay? I’ve just spent two hours locked in a car with a man who won’t speak to me… at least with words. But his disgust was written all over his face. So, thanks for driving home what a moron I am, but you didn’t need to, because I already know!”

Don was ten when Mona was born, so they were raised more as cousins, he and Mona were the closest, but she also knew about his proclivities.
“He’d done that before?”
“Multiple times. We don’t know whether or not he abused Mona, but I tend to think he probably did, which messed with her. He saw a picture of you and Bruce somewhere, probably social media, and became fixated. By then, Mona had been estranged from that side of the family, but I guess Don reached out to her again. After Brock killed him, Mona manipulated the AG’s assistant to change the file.”
“But why?”
“Because her husband’s running for mayor.”
“So, this was to try to bury the fact her family is totally screwed up. Okay, I
guess I get that, but why would she feel the need to attack me? I have done
nothing to her.”
Dallas scowled. “She didn’t.”
“She didn’t?”
“No. Bruce did.”
I sat up. “Why?”
“Because he’s an a**hole.”
“That’s not the reason,” I snapped. “He’s been an a**hole his whole life,
Dallas.”
“He was pissed you dumped him and had plans for you.”
“Um, what kind of plans?”
“Not goin’ there, babe.”
“Yeah, you are. What did he have planned, Dallas?”
“He thought that he could scare you into his life and then convince you to stay with him.”
“But he knew I loved you. Knew I wouldn’t leave you.”
“Which is why he planned to kill me and that failed, he was gonna kill you.”

Epilogue:
At the cinema, after greetings at the snack bar, the lights went dark as soon as they were seated and the screen lit up with a slideshow of photos of Macey, her family, friends and Dallas.
“What’s going on?” I whispered.
“Just watch,” he said, and wrapped an arm around me.
The slideshow ended, the lights came up, and Dallas rose to his feet.
“What are you doing?” I asked, glancing at Brock and Payton. “What is he
doing?”
“Macey,” Dallas began. “Will you stand up, baby?”
I did and glanced at the crowd, my mouth dropping open when I recognized
my grandparents and the majority of my friends.
“You know how much I love you,” he said. “As does everyone here.”
“Ohmigod,” I whispered.
“Macey Gilbert, will you marry Dallas Stone?” the crowd asked in stereo.
I gasped as Dallas went down on one knee and opened a velvet box that
was a little worn on the corners. Like it had been touched often.
“Baby, will you do me the honor of being my wife?” he asked.
I covered my face with my hands and nodded. “Yes. Absolutely.”

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... I love PD's writing. Her style flows and I'm instantly sucked in to the story.

This is the tale of two people that have long been pining for the other, but just didn't connect until the time was right. Just when things we're going great - Masey went through something horrific. Can this couple get past what life has thrown at them or has their time come and gone? Loved the story

favorite quote: "Mase, we're not broken. A little bent, maybe, but we have a solid foundation with a kick-ass friendship that started when we were kids."

side note: I was about 30 % in before my brain kicked in as to who Masey's roommate was -Payton has her own story in Road to Redemption (Dogs of Fire MC #2).

Macey and Dallas😀

Two years ago, everything was moving in one direction for Macey and Dallas....towards a relationship together where they got married and started a family. But one night when Dallas is away for work, tragedy strikes and finds Macey in the hospital. Macey feeling sorry for herself pushes everyone away including Dallas.

A long journey for this couple to get back to where they were, with some more danger and unexpected twists.

Loved this story about unconditional love. Regardless of what Macey went through, Dallas was right next to her and oh so patient and loving. The mix of familiar characters from Witness were also welcomed giving continuity to the friendships. Story has a good flow and pace. Looking forward to reading more by Piper Davenport.

Macey and Dallas - childhood friends to lovers. Great but tragic story. Could have done without a few of the "I love You's" but overall Dallas was Macey's rock and was there for her through thick and thin. His tendencies slip into "caveman" mode once in a while but at least he cares and is trying to protect her. She has a lot of difficulties but he is there to help her through them and become the strong woman that she always was.

Much better than Guardians Book 1 however...

Once you get past all the "I love yous...you okay, I got you" and some of the other repetitive dialogue, the story starts to unfold with Macy Gilbert and Dallas Stone in a very loving and supportive relationship. They are childhood friends who've just never seemed to get together until now. Macy is recovering from a sexual assault and it's up to Macy's friends, Dallas, Peyton, Brock, Jaxon and new fast friend, Bailey, to help her get back on her feet.

Best boyfriend, er, man ever...

Macy is pretty lucky to have such a patient, understanding and thoughtful man as Dallas. He cooks, fixes things and is her sugar daddy when needed, literally. Although it's sweet that he is so finely tuned to Macy, at times it is a bit smothering and irritating--especially during Macy's PMS meltdown. Got to keep the guys guessing when the tornado will strike!

Okaaaaaay, we're reaching here...

What was particularly unexpected and cra-cra to me was that Macy went from assualt victim to a stalking victim to having her life threatened and the unbelievable reason behind it. Macy's ex-boyfriend seems to think he could scare her into his life and then convince her to stay with him. But knowing Macy was in love with Dallas and wouldn't leave him, he planned to kill Dallas and if he couldn't kill Dallas he was going to kill Macy. Well apparently crazy runs in the family...said ex, has a crazy mother who apparently set Macy up to be asaulted by his crazy uncle. Oh vey...

Still shaking my head...Troll 2...seriously?

Saving grace...

The dialogue between the characters is entertaining and flows well. More often than not, the interaction is humerous as one would expect between people who've known each other since childhood. The plot and climax fell flat but fortunately the character relationships held this one together.

Jax still spends his time in the car or on the porch, poor man--something's gotta give. I had hoped there would be a story for him for Guardians 3, but alas, there is no Guardians 3, so no justice for Jax.

Such an odd read... elements were really good... but I got really confused towards the end. It felt like characters that I should've known were suddenly introduced.

And sometimes... just sometimes... Macey really was TSTL. Mind you... she should've been given all the information...

2 & 1/2 disappointing stars.

Dallas and Macey’s story centers on an FBI agent and a nurse who were once best friends but lost touch between misunderstandings and distance when he left for college. The pivotal change occurs when Macey is brutally attacked, thus shattering her world and his when Macey reject Dallas for his own good and spends the next year alone while she tries to deal with her physical and psychological scars. Dallas’s team’s investigation into her attack is stalled as they attempt to figure out who obfuscated key details about her attacker, who remains unknown. While the story doesn’t delve into the specific details of the attack I had hoped the author would expound upon a few minutes of Macey’s emotional horror during the attack from her POV. The author attempts to describe Macey’s triggers and her panic attacks but they’re told from Dallas’s POV which greatly dilutes the emotional impact of her story. It’s a fast read because the writing is simplistic so it’s easy to skim through the flowery parts and the repetitive number of sex scenes but as a crime procedural it’s a snooze. Unfortunately sometimes both characters have the emotional maturity of college students in their speech and their actions. And while I really appreciated the author’s care in portraying Dallas’s careful handling of their first sexual encounter, she totally avoids exploring his emotional trauma after learning about the violence that was perpetrated on the woman he loves. Supposedly his partners kept him in the dark but he’s smart enough to find the details on his own. I think a slowly escalating return to their physical intimacy would be more realistic than the author’s decision to portray Macey, after the attack, as a highly sexual character who sometimes suddenly refuses to be in the same room, or to even be touched by Dallas. She should have been seeing a therapist throughout the entire book but the therapy she did have was glossed over. I did like Dallas and Macey together; he’s a caring and really supportive partner but his temper can sometimes be volatile when it comes to her safety and she’s not always smart. Why are there obnoxious amounts of recitations of “I love you”s? And don’t even get me started on the overabundance of exceedingly boring filler details chronicling what everyone was wearing, what they were eating, and the details of their showers (and I’m not referring to shower sex). Macey is a nurse but very few details are included about her actual nursing duties beyond her traveling to and from work. More pet peeves include the use of Mace and Dal as nicknames, the silliness of grown adults dressing up for a 4 year old child’s birthday party that she probably won’t even remember, and the demeaning PMS scene which I found highly insulting, especially coming from a female author. Yes, we all crave chocolate and comfort food (which Dallas willingly provides) but why feel the need to insult your fellow women this way?

A MUST READ SERIES! Loved the story of Dallas and Macey. Two people destined to be together and the journey life takes to get them there. This 2nd book in the series was extremely well written with humor, sass, intrigue, tears, and love that’s meant to last. I couldn’t put this book down. Each page pulled me further into this world and these wonderful characters.

WARNING: This book contains a sexual attack subplot that some readers may find disturbing. For those who choose to continue, you won’t be disappointed!

While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read Witness, the first book in the series to become familiar with these wonderful characters. Spotlight is the 3rd book in this series, but there is an entire MC universe (Dogs of Fire, Burning Saints, and Primal Howlers) that involves these fantastic characters. I recommend reading in chronological order to fully immerse yourself in their world and to really appreciate these wonderful characters and their nuances. You never know when a character from another series will make an appearance!

Here’s the recommended reading order across all the series thus far:

Witness (Guardian series)
Justice (Guardian series)
Road to Desire
Road to Redemption
Road to Absolution
Road to Passion
Road to Victory
Road to Peace
The Broken Road (Limelight series)
The Road Back (Limelight series)
Spotlight (Guardian series)

This series is definitely worth checking out! Enjoy the ride! I sure did!

We met both Macey and Dallas in the previous book, Witness. We knew there was some type of previous relationship between them, but not what the details of that relationship was, or what happened to that relationship. This is their story.

Macey is a nurse at a local hospital. She grew up with Dallas, Payton, and Brock. Macey and Dallas danced around each other for years before admitting their feelings for one another. Then the unthinkable happens, and Macey pushes everyone away, including Dallas. Dallas moves on with his life, and career, never forgetting about Macey, and all that she means to him. Dallas finally pushes his way back into her life, and then things start getting strange, Macey's past comes back to haunt her.

This book continued with what we were introduced to in Witness. Many of the same characters are in this book, and there are references to some events that occur in that book. However, this story could be read as a stand alone with no problems at all. There was a lot of action in this book, bad guys, and tense situations. It moved along at a brisk pace, and kept me guessing all along. It also introduced us to a few characters from an upcoming series, and ties in nicely with those! This book was exciting, and fun, and I loved the interactions between Macey and Dallas! Their relationship is both loving and HOT! As with all of the books that I've read by this author, I enjoyed everything about it, and it's definitely worth reading!

Wow, just simply, wow! I loved Dallas and Macey, but my heart broke for them too. What Macey lived through was horrific. And reactions to that I can easily imagine the way they did in this book. But Macey is strong and a fighter, and Dallas has the strength and patience of a saint. He gives her the space & time she thinks she needs, but he never gives up. That right there, is nothing short of amazing.

Dallas and Macey have known each other for years before they connect, and that gives them a beautifully strong foundation. Then a horrific incident drives them apart, that takes a few years for them to attempt to get back together.

I loved these two and the relationship they have. It’s an incredible book. Piper Davenport is still (and probably always will be) a favorite author of mine that I will always one-click to buy.

Stalkers

Macey & Dallas have been friends forever, and been in love with each just as long but never did anything about it until 2 years ago. The had a great night out and got back to her place and the night was perfect. He was doing testing for his job with the FBI so she was going to stay with Payton, but before she could leave she was attacked and raped. Brock killed the guy. While she was healing Dallas & Brock moved her in Payton into an apartment they could share but she didn't want to see him. Two years, counseling and time got them slowly back together, now there is more.

This is the second book in the guardian series and was just as amazing as the first. This is Dallas and Maceys story. Dallas and macey were on their way to happily ever after when the unthinkable happens. Macey is now a different person and is determined to push everyone away. Will Dallas be able to break down her walks? Will they finally get the happily ever after they deserve? This was such a great story. I absolutely loved Dallas!

Macey & Dallas get two thumbs up! They have some wonderful chemistry & their affection for each other & their friends & family shine off the page. They definitely get put thru the ringer, but at the same time, there is low relationship drama because we never doubt their love for one another. There's also the mystery surrounding Macey's drama. Good stuff! : )

Guardians book 2. This is Dallas and Macey story. They've loved each other from afar for what seems like forever. One horrifying situation changes their lives. But their love for one another brings them back to each other. However the bad guys keep coming and this book takes you there. Full of drama, passion, hopeful and angst. He will protect her with everything he got.

Alpha male and strong woman.

Having read Witness (book 1 in the Guardian series) I just had to read Justice, and I wasn't disappointed. Again, the author deals with a tricky topic and does it well. If you like alpha males then you'll love Dallas. Can Macey trust him again after knowing him in her past?

Loved this book! Two of my favorite characters that pop up throughout Piper Davenport's various series finally get their story. And what a story! Macey and Dallas have been dancing around each other for years but now that things are finally getting hot, an enemy from the past threatens to crumble everything they've waited for.

Don't miss this second installment of the Guardians series.

Strong love

Macey has been in love with Dallas for along time. Dallas has always loved Macey, but made a mistake with her when they were in high school. They start a relationship, but an incident happens to Macey and she try’s to shut him out. Can Dallas get through to Macey how much he loves her? Will she let him or stay broken? Come take an adventure of a lifetime.

This story about unconditional love was really good’. Dallas loved Macey no matter what happened or the fact that she kept pushing him away after the rape. They were apart for : years, but he never walked away from her or their love! Awesome read!

Dealt realistically with some of the issues that come up with the aftermath of rape. Perhaps the resolution was a tad too quick to be believable, but the emotions behind the process were heartfelt.

I couldn't put this book down and read it cover to cover in half a day.
