I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.

I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.

No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.

We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.

Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

Very good first book in this spin off series! Excellent narration by Kate Rudd (audible review).

This was a great book, I really enjoyed it. I love that Terry Henry Walton for sure! I really like Char too. I think there may be a potential romance blooming there.

This is a great spinoff of Bethany Anne's stories, I am hoping though that like the Bethany Anne books they do not add 100 more characters, It is annoying and gets too confusing,

I really like this post apocalyptic world. Trying to rebuild earth and dealing with jerks and bad guys.

I will continue on with the series unless it gets too extreme with so many characters that it becomes no longer enjoyable.

As for t he narration, it was AMAZING! Just sayin Kate Rudd does an awesome job on all the voices and her reading voice is excellent, Love her narrations.

After the End of the World

Craig Martelle and Michael Anderle have a winner on their hands with Nomad Found, the first book in the Kutherian Gambit Series. I have to admit that I have been completely burnt out by all of the post-apocalyptic novels of late. Not because they weren't good, just the general world ending miasma depression has been too much.

Nomad Found has fresh, new characters, a completely different direction and more than a smattering of hope. From the very beginning, the lead character, Terry Henry Walden, strikes you as an honorable man in a fallen world. A former Marine, his code of honor changes the dynamics between him and the other survivors he meets.

Without giving away too much of the book, THW, as he becomes known, works his way into a position of authority by gaining the trust of an outlying community that is barely surviving. His counter-intuitive approach to leadership is novel. He spends part of his day working alone and the rest working alongside a farmer, a greenhouse gardener, an electrician and so on. He slowly shows the people in the town what partnership looks like and they begin to build a home of trust and abundance.

Well, of course there can't be success without an enemy nearby. Surprising Terry, is the appearance of a stunningly beautiful woman. Who he immediately identifies as a Werewolf. Char plays a waiting game with Terry. She neither threatens him nor engenders trust. Margo, the woman Terry lodges with, does not like Char at all, and is vocal about it. Things are at a standstill.

When the community's real enemy raises it's ugly head in a surprise raid, Char proves that she is on Terry's side and helps defeat the men and pack them off. Terry and Char unspokenly acknowledge Char is a Werewolf and treat each other with respect.

The finale of the book, which is really a lead up to the next book in the series, is outstanding. If you like the history of military engagement on the ground, you will particularly enjoy this last scene.

I love Craig Martelle's writing, and his ability to co-write with othe great authors. Nomad Found is a shining example of his ability. Great read, I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Nomad Found - a review by Rosemary Kenny

This surprisingly enjoyable book reminded me of a classic Western/Clint Eastwood-style movie
with the added excitement of a Werewolf in the post Apocalyptic mix.

Ex-Marine, Terry Henry (TH) Walton is the man from the Wilderness come to reform and regenerate the
mid-Western US town he leaves it for.
After overcoming Mayor Billy Spires' initial reluctance by proving his trustworthiness, TH
teaches several local men the basics of Marine fitness and combat preparation.

When a lovely blood-stained woman walks into town from the mountains, what does TH recognise her as?
What is the reason she's in town? Will she help or fight against him?
Who hates her on sight - and why? How does this affect the Mayor?
Where does Sawyer Brown originate from and what are his first actions in town?

With townsfolks' lives and livelihoods at stake TH and his Team must take the fight to their enemies
and fight together for the right to survive and thrive against all comers!

Craig Martelle clearly has what it takes to raise the stakes and sweep the winnings to his side of the
table when it comes to reminding the thrilled sci-fi extraordinaire reader that he's The Man!

I liked this opening to a new spin-off series in the Kurtherian Gambit series. Having just finished another one of the co-written spin-offs of this series, with a different co-author, it's nice to see a discernible difference in voice and characterization while still maintaining the integrity of the world and the over all tone of the series.

So far the main characters are fairly likeable. These are short audiobooks of 6ish hours and with them sped up a bit I can get through them in about four hours. So, I'm going to jump into the second one.

Kate Rudd is the narrator of several of the spin-off series, with Emily Beresford doing the main series. I like them both. Anderle has a tendency to pack too many characters into his stories and it's not uncommon for a narrator to start running out of voices, but both of these narrators do a pretty good job managing that.

Great story

I'm excited to read this story. I've been wondering about TH and what was the story behind him and Char. So much to tie all together. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read all the books of this series.

Enjoyable, standard fare for the Kindle apocalyptic genre. Easy-breezy. Not going to make you think too hard. Part of some bigger universe, I think, because, otherwise I don't understand why there are werewolves and vampires in the apocalypse.
100% worth the 0$ on kindle. :)

After the fall

This is a decently entertaining origin story set in the early Kutherian Gambit universe but is completely removed from the Queen Bitch group who left Earth. TH has a value system, a work ethic and most importantly to the future success of the group is an honorable man in a setting that badly needs it. We’ll see what happens when Char is forced to decide between the pack & acceptance.

l like this one…

I like the premise of this apocalyptic story. What a man of character Terry is! He has kept himself in self imposed isolation for many years after the worst day of the world. When he decides he needs to search for somewhere to start the process of reclaiming a society, that’s exactly what he does.
I can’t help but feel like I’m missing a lot of backstory here though…werewolves, nanocytes…and who know what else?
I’m looking forward to reading the whole series!

Good action

Good character interaction. The bad guys are believable bullies, the good guys are complex and not given to stupid. Do we all like werewolves? Envious of their health, stamina and healing abilities.

The story is your stereotypical post apocalyptic world, you have your bullies and other power mongers. The narrator for the book was another dictionary reader. Their was no real acting or any emotion in her voice. The bottom line, the story was boring as shit and didn't grab me in the first two hours. I hated this book and will be avoiding the rest of the audio series.

A personal message.

I got this book way back when it was a free read, free listen or it was $1.99, not sure which. Anyway, I would have read all of them but I can’t spend $67 on the other 9 books in the series. I did read the first 9 books in the Kurtherian series but, again, the price went waaaay up and I stopped there. How can authors really expect readers to spend that kind of money on one series? There’s going to be a total of 27 books in the Kurtherian series. Anyway, I wrote a letter to Audible about the prices they set on their books and guess what? They wrote me back and told me they had nothing to do with the prices of those series’, that the author and the publishers set that price. For real?

I just wanted all you Audible listeners to know that the greediness comes from the authors and publishers NOT from Audible. At least, that’s what Audible says. Oh, and I did use the QUESTION box on Goodreads and asked Michael Anderle about it but, of course, he never answered me.

I know I'm going to mess around and get kicked off of Goodreads and Audible for daring to state my opinion, just like I did on Amazon. Oh, I can fill my Kindle with books and shop like crazy but I'm not allowed to leave a review on a book or on something I bought. I can only spend money. So, if you ever STOP seeing my reviews you'll know what happened to me. I'm wondering if this will even be posted on Audible, to tell you the truth.

OK, enough ranting.

Now to the book.

I loved it. Loved Terry Henry Walton and Char, Margie Rose, (sometimes) Billy Spires, didn’t like Felicity, liked Terry’s soldiers. I simply hated Sawyer Brown and he got exactly what was coming to him.

It was all about Terry making it to Margie Rose’s house sick and tired and so thirsty. She took him in, got him better, and when bad guys came to try to take the food she’d grown Terry kicked all four of their asses. Then went into town and found the mayor Billy Spires and told him he’d be his head of security and make sure no one came to town to take anything from the town. After seeing his men and finding out Terry killed one of them Billy thought he should try Terry’s idea. And it began: the training, the helping of the farmers and the complete turn-around of Mayor Billy Spires. And, Sawyer Brown thinking he could come into town and take what he wanted and killing two of the town’s people.

No sex and the F-bomb is used 64 times.

As to the narration: You can’t get much better than Kate Rudd. Her voices and emotions are spot on.

Terry Henry Walton is wandering in the wilderness and finds a small settlement. He helps an old lady and tries to get out getting the settlement in better organization so it can produce enough food for the people and so it can protect itself against raiders.

He makes a good use of trying to reason with a rather nasty 'leader' of the settlement. We also find out that nukes had been used and the Chinese had ruined the Internet.

What he doesn't realize, though, is that the townspeople will not be his only problem as there is a pack of werewolves not far away and another settlement led by a would-be dictator.

So, he has to figure out how to get things going to enough food is grown (hunting and the use of greenhouses) and how to deal with raiders (applying military organization and discipline to some of the settlement's male population.) He also learns that there is a werewolf in their midst.

What's interesting is that the story is done in a very logical way; in order for the settlement to continue they have to do X, Y and Z, work closely together and everyone has to pull their own weight. It's a really good first book in the series.

I audio booked this series.

I started with Death Becomes Her and was done. So annoying and OTT.

Fast forward a few months to a book drought and a nagging curiosity of ‘where in the hell could they possibly take all that OTT USA ego bullshit’… and I’m listening to TKG series nonstop and loving it. I haven’t been able to get hold of the last few books in TKG series, so had to jump forward to TSDA and loving Michael’s return. All while begging my library to finish TKG… and pretty please can I have THW & AKIO’s books too.

Still not finished with TKG, but almost made a fool of myself when I stumbled across the THW series available! There may have been a smothered squeal in public ☺️

For some reason I thought TH was going to convert old Margo(?) and marry her, so Char threw me for a loop.

I’m less than thrilled that TH & Akio let so many things run out, but I guess it does make for a good story that they had to go without.

Overall, a new repeat listen series to love. Easy 3 to 4 stars throughout.

… and I wonder what my chances are of getting the whole universe 😊🤞

I have been reading the Kurtherian Gambit/Universe in chronological order as much as possible, there seems to be a slight error with "Alpha Class Graduation" which should be read AFTER "Never Submit" and not as listed in the Kurtherian Universe list here on goodreads, and have to say I have been enjoying the whole series quite a bit. That said this Nomad side series is really really good.

I think I like it just as much as the main series and so far it's definitely my favorite of the side stories. I'm only two books into the Nomad series so will add more remarks after book three or later if my opinion changes!

I don't read all the authors notes at the end but did this time and I just have to say to the haters...well my sentiments are pretty much just like Micheal Anderle's...so...

Bless your hearts!

Anything by these two authors is always going to be worth reading. We all dread the Apocalypse, yet we still have stupid leaders that could shove us into it at any given time. The Chinese were blamed in this particular story, but to be honest, almost any country could have done the same, and many of them, including the US, has the ability or far too close to it. The characters in this are vivid to the extreme, a Marine with nanocytes, A female Werewolf, a various supporting characters all valuable with their own skills. The plot is easily followed and the premise is to re-establish a foothold that will both feed and provide power to the few that are left from the Holocaust. There is cussing aplenty, so if that offends you, my apologies, but for the rest of you the story is not just good, but great.

The world Michael Anderle and a host of other collaborators created is huge in scope and is one of the most mind bending and exciting approach to the world of urban paranormal together with science fiction. Despite the scope with the main story of humanity being a science experiment of an evil alien race and the side stories of the post apocalyptic earth, I find his books fascinating, his characters well rounded and the story lines absolutely wild and the romance highly entertaining. In this whole mish-mash, the protagonists are with strong moral compass, compassion and determination. I highly recommend the Kurtherian Gambit books. If you are looking for books that will keep you awake long into the night unable to put them down, this is for you.

Enjoyable read.

I’ve never read any of the Kutherian novels before, so just leapt right in with this one. Hint: I’ve no idea if I missed any history or background that may have been helpful...plus I’m new to the genre after trying to expand beyond primarily science fantasy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the read. For the most part, the story line flowed well and with a good writing style. The character development wasn’t particular deep, although I’m not sure if that’s due to missing the other previous novels or if it’s just the author’s style. Either way, I brought it along on a week-long camping trip and it passed the evening quiet hours perfectly and kept me coming back to read more. Now I’ll be downloading the next in this series.

Oh, how I missed Anderle's world and writing style!

Yup, if you've read the Kurtherian Gambit, you'll really enjoy this series.

If you haven't, don't worry, you'll still enjoy the series.

If you've never read anything by Michael Anderle, you're in for a surprise. He has a very very unique writing style. It takes a few chapters to get used to the different style, but trust me, you'll love it once you do. Just give it a try, be a bit patient, and you'll love this author and all his projects. You'll recognize his books no matter what and, even though you'll like some more than others, there won't be a series you won't enjoy.

Ok, back to this specific book/series.

It's a post-apocalyptic world but one where people haven't all lost their humanity. I got a feeling of empowerment, of wanting to do good, of wanting to help, after finishing this book.

It's full of blood and bada*s characters, a lot of sarcastic humor and absolutely amazing side characters.

Definitely worth a try!

A CM/MA SYFY Action Adventure (NF) (AKGS) (THWCB - 1)

CM/MA have penned a SYFY novel about the time after the world ended. One man, an ex Marine, who had wandered the wastelands for 20 years decides its time to restart humanity. He begins to collect people who can rebuild a city. Many are hard core bad guys, but change their attitudes after watching one man rebuild asking for nothing. The major problem are a breed of people who have been around for over 5000 years. Werewolves. Our intrepid hero maintains a fine balance and build a village hoping more would come to build a city. Well, that was anticlimactic.
The writing is below average showing a limited vocabulary range, this can’t be edited and proof-read. The grammar and word errors I can overlook.
Many repetitions, one dimensional characters with stilted dialogues. Nothing felt natural, but overstated and excessive.
The unnatural behaviour, the one dimensional characters with their limited mindset. Not to mention the female characters, who were either the motherly grandmas always feeding the men or self-servant manipulative, highly sexualised, unnatural beauties.

The world building is sparse and left some gaps.

In this form this book is a no go for me.

Surprisingly, it took me some time to get into this story which, considering it's author, and how much I've enjoyed all I've read by him, until now, was amazing.

But, once I finally found my way, I thoroughly enjoyed it, which was a relief, to be honest.

The premise of the loner who ends up protecting a town, isn't a new one, but there are gleams of goodness within TH's character that make people want him to stay and help protect them - and I don't blame them, given the character of the ones who prefer to just take what they want.

I might have started this story slowly, but it did drag me in, and has kept me wanting to know what happens next, which I'm very happy about.

Good read

I'm a fast reader and have already plowed through all the KG books and found myself waiting for something new. I don't know why I hadn't dug into this series yet but I am glad I did. Smooth tease and from my limited experience, written by someone who knows the subject. Good characters and good interaction between them. Through this one in a day and impatient to start the next. I just know I'm hoping to be irritated to interrupt this series to catch new releases of some of the others.

Great start to the series

I have read this series before, and the fact that I am reading it again is testimony to how good it is. I have far too many unread books in my library to waste time on rereading any that are less than excellent.
This series is set in the Kutherian Gambit universe. You can read and enjoy it without having read the main series by Michael Anderle, but for your best enjoyment, I do recommend starting with Death Becomes Her, which is the first book in the Kutherian Gambit.

I downloaded Nomad Found as a free book from Amazon. The clean, sparse writing style really struck a chord with me-- I simply enjoyed the post-apocalypse story and the quirky characters. Terry Henry (TH) is a fun protagonist to follow and I love the way he thinks and reacts-- and adding Char was a great touch, adding unpredictability to the plot line. This is a series to follow, I know I will be.

Th series begins

Well that was a good start to a new series. I can't wait to read the next books.
Considering that I started the kurthurian books in the wrong order and had to go back to the beginning, I'm enjoying these spin-off series a lot.
The problem is I think they are taking over my life, no television, no internet browsing. As long as I have a good book to read I am in heaven.
So keep up the good work and I will keep reading.😁

I picked this up since it was available on Kindle unlimited and it was a pleasant surprise. Only while going thru the author's notes did I realize that it's dry in a universe which TH is a minor character, which was very interesting. Now I have to check out the Kuthetian Gambit series to figure out the rest of the universe. Overall it's a book about post apocalyptic universe with mythical creatures, not a bad combo.

A Wonderful addition to the Kurtherian Gambit Series

I am hooked on the entire Kurtherian universe. This particular book brings back Terry Henry (TH) to his friends. I really enjoyed the few times he appeared in Bethany Anne's books. Always in the thick of things, always protecting people. He has spent 20 years since the world as we know it ended in the wilderness. This book tells how he works himself back to protecting people and rebuilding civilization a little bit at a time. I can't wait to get into the next book.
