The last of the Black Super Soldiers takes action . . .

The Black Super Soldiers are action against the Germans. They find they've been sent to attack a convoy of medical supplies (unknown to them, delaying Germany's own version of the Super Soldier Program). More losses are incurred as they fight on. Taunting by the racist Private Merritt sparks a berserk rage that kills more, leaving only Isaiah Bradley, at a critical juncture of the mission as they prepare to link up with Steve Rogers. Isaiah Bradley, last of the experimental Black Super Soldiers, steals the Captain America costume for his mission . . .the first Captain America!

If you saw the Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series, you may have some familiarity with Isaiah Bradley. The series is his origin story. Testing unproven science on soldiers, an unwillingness to treat black soldiers with the same dignity as white G.I.s, and the willingness of them to be heroic all the same. It feels a bit ham-fisted at times, but you get the point.

More in-fighting as the crew learns their purpose. We get the first glimpse of a uniform and start to see the ties to Steve Rogers (in name). Slightly better artwork, and finally the story starts making some sense.

Now it feels like we're starting to move a little bit.

I really liked the panel at the end where they mimic that classic Kirby pose.

Excellent reading

This is a great opportunity to help younger generations understand the Tuskegee experiments that were conducted in secret. Great reading.
