The Ares Initiative

Rate this book
Endangered by an alien adversary

Archaeologist Eliana Fisk helped expose a false god and end his reign of terror.

Now, he’s coming for the people of Earth.

And he’s hungry for revenge.

When a secret organization tasked with the protection of the planet calls upon Eliana for her help, she gathers her courage to respond to the threat. Unfortunately, it looks like the key to defeating the ancient alien lies buried in the heart of her deepest fears.

Can she overcome her demons in time to save the people she loves most in the world?

The Ares Initiative is a fast-paced science fiction thriller with an edge of the fantastic—a pulse-pounding Hail Mary to save a planet from destruction, and an action-packed battle against a darkly persuasive adversary more powerful and dangerous than the people of Earth can comprehend.

"Those with the desire to rule often do so with only their intent in mind, not that of others.”
What a fantastic sequel to the series! I’m totally wowed! The plot, narrative, and character in-depth is fabulous, as the rest of the series.
The overture with stealthier, faster and deadly creatures is terrifying.
A wonderful ending to a marvelous series. Pity it had to end. I’m sure Herron will give us yet another delicious surprise! I definitely recommend to read it!
Thank you to the author for this ARC. It’s a voluntary review with pleasure.

Unfortunately the saying “all good things must come to an end” is proving to be accurate in the case of M.G. Herron’s Translocator Trilogy, as it’s third and final book,The Ares Initiative, is definitely ending a very good thing indeed. Luckily it’s ending in style as this book was fabulous. This book is definitely the “pulse-pounding Hail Mary” adventure promised in its publisher’s blurb and those who have been following Eliana Fisk in her adventure I can promise you’ll be satisfied. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend, with the caveat that newcomers really should start with the (wonderful) book 1 in this series for best enjoyment. I’m definitely going to miss this series.

The first two books were incredibly varied and packed with surprises and this book furthers that trend.
Continuing straight on from the Alien element, this book details the struggle of an ancient civilization that has been caught up in a futuristic struggle for colonisation on one side and their own internal struggles with ancient customs on the other. Woven into this mix are the scientists and archaeologists who have unwillingly got caught up in this by using their new technology to try to ease transportation. There are numerous battles both internally and extra terrestrial, some really impressive bio technology ideas and continual shocks as Amon's once partner continues his shocking practices. The only smudge in this otherwise exceptional trilogy for me was the attack by a certain predator that veered towards the realm of B Movie territory. Up until this occurs, the story had been really in depth and a fascinating read, this deviated from this adding a sense of almost cheapness to the plot, disappointing me until things got back on track. The conclusion itself was outstanding and leaves you satisfied with the explanations whilst still maybe hoping for more to come.

What an amazing conclusion to an amazing story! The character depth and story lines in this 3rd book were truly fascinating!

I loved how there were so many connected characters whether from earth or from Kakul that you could relate to. It really created an experience where you were invested in so many of them that you did not want anything to happen to them, except Lucas, he’s a bad apple for sure.
The twists that came towards the end of this book I honestly did not see coming and were so Awesome and fun to read!
Eliana and Amon sure paired up nicely and worked well together, Rakulo, is a character I would love to read more about in the future, truly an inspiring leader and a curious person that truly means well and cares for his people.

Grand slam for sure in this conclusion of a great series!

A very satisfying end to a great series. Lovely to find a really unusual plot, with Mayan people transported from South America many years ago onto another planet, and then found by a translocator accident. Really good depth of characters and details of their lives. I even felt sympathy for the alien in the end. And a realisation of what really matters to each main character. Well done. Highly recommended.

Great plot as usual! Still some points remain unresolved:
1. Were those scorpion things Xhucha’s children? I presume so, but it was unclear
2. What was Lucas’s endgame? What did he want to do with the clones?
3. Biggest question: if people on Kakul came from Earth, then why do the carvings on Mayan ruins show he two moons from the other planet...?

This has been an interesting trilogy. I'm not entirely sure how I found it but I'm glad it did. Interesting characters, plot and science all came together to make a great story. Lots of action in this one, substantially more than in the previous 2 but there's a lot to wrap up and it was an extremely satisfying finale.

Amazing ending to this superb series. Archeologist Eliana uncovered a God to destroy him and now he’s coming for everyone. She’s called upon to help. Couldn’t put it down.

This is now book 3 in the Translocator Trilogy. And as it was with book 1 and book 2, I hardly could put it down.
Full of surprises and much more.

Excellent series

A really terrific set of three books. The last book was a bit jumbled at times, but I enjoyed the series immensely I wish we could have a trance locator to get to the moon and to Mars!

Wow! What an ending to the series. This was an action-packed conclusion to an interesting story, showing good imagination by the author.
It is a series, you could probably read it as a standalone but it is really meant to be read as the conclusion for the series.
If you have read the other novels, I do recommend reading this one, and I also recommend the series as a whole.
