Elizabeth Rose excels at creating compelling characters and wonderful settings in her stories. Sir Claude Montague, returns to England after many years away to attend his sister's birthday celebration. But he finds Lady Rose, who broke his heart years ago, about to deliver her first child needs him while her husband is away. How difficult for Claude! He meets Rose's nursemaid, beautiful Evelina who seems anything but a servant with her proper speech and impetuous nature. Evelina is really Lady Evelina who has run away from her home in France to avoid marriage to a terrible man. Claude begins to have feelings for Evelina but with her being a servant, the difference in their classes is almost insurmountable. Of course he does not know she is not a servant. Can they both find love when least expected? This is a wonderful story that will hold your attention from beginning until the end hoping that love can overcome and truths will come out. Another great story by Elizabeth Rose.
Such a fickle minded hero.80% of the book he was in love with Rose and then suddenly he is in love with the heroine. I thought that have I missed some chapters for this sudden transition.( Sadly,no) Then next instant he was again in love with Rose. He rushed to her when she was on the verge of dying. Then she makes him realise he is in love with the heroine. So again he realises he is in love with the heroine.(Um.What??) So he runs and proposes to the heroine and before she can give answer he comes to know her truth. Then he tells her that how she broke his heart through this betrayal.( Are u freaking kidding me?!). All this while the heroine(and the reader) has assumed him to be in love with Rose so the proposal was totally out of blue and then suddenly she broke his heart. Right

Elizabeth Rose is a multi genre talented author who did such an amazing job with this story that I read it in a day. It was so nice for Claude to finally have his own story. I love Ms. Rose's novels as when I read her writing the world falls away from my feet and I become one with the book. This book has the Elizabeth Rose stamp all over it.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Another excellent book Claude returns to England, he thinks to attend his sisters birthday celebrations . However his former love Rose is the one needing his help . Not happy at seeing her again , his heart still aching from her refusal to marry him years earlier, he still agrees to stay by he side till her husband returns . Her nursemaid Evelina is not what she seems , Claude notices that she acts more as a noble and not a servant , she’s outspoken and smells nice . Confusing Evelina has escaped France and is employed as a servant to Rose and her small brothers , she can’t go home ,if she does her father will marry her to a horrid cruel husband , but when Claude arrives it all goes to pot, and she is scared he will discover her secret . This is a continuation of Book 3 Of The Barons Of The Cinque Ports Series . As always Elizabeth delivers a perfect accompaniment to her previous books . This is a cracker and is full of energy and an enjoyable read . I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review
The third book in the “Barons of the Cinque Ports” series, “Forbidden: Claude” is a medieval romance that can be read as a standalone but is best read in series order to avoid spoilers.

My Thoughts:
This book unlike most I have read by this Author has no magic involved. This is a well written medieval tale of a young man who as a teen became infatuated with his friend. She was in love with another and married that man instead. Now Rose and her husband have asked Claude to watch over her while her husband is away. Rose is imminently expecting a child and having lost two previously she is frightened and would like the company of her friend. Evelina is a French lady hiding, disguised as a nursemaid from a cruel betrothed. She is attracted to Claude even though she fights it. And he is attracted to her even though he doesn't trust her.
Will their attraction for each other then into love? Will Evelina reveal the truth to Claude?
I gave this short read 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. There is only one physically intimate passage in this book but it is rather sensual.
I recieved a complimentary copy of this book from the author to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this story. Sir Claude leaves his castle to visit his little sister on her birthday, but he secretly longs to visit Lady Rose, the woman who holds his heart in her hands. He hasn’t been back to England since the day she married Sir Toft and broke his heart.
Lady Evelina has run away from her father, the Count DuPont of Tarbes, because he betrothed her to the cruel Lord Onfri Faucheux of Grenoble. She has hired a mercenary to travel with her from France to England as her “brother” and protector. She is posing as a lowly servant and is hired as a nursemaid for Lady Rose’s two young brothers.
Lady Rose is also very much pregnant and begs Claude to stay with her throughout the remainder of her pregnancy because both her father and husband have been summoned by the king to give their two weeks service, and Rose is frightened because she has already had two stillbirths.
Evelina accidentally speaks French, making Claude aware that she is from his own country, but Evelina is fearful of revealing herself because Claude might know her father and send her back to France. Claude quickly realizes that Evelina is hiding something and is determined to uncover her truths. His commitment to Rose means he is always in proximity with Evelina, and as they spend more and more time together, Claude’s heart is quickly torn between the two women. Eventually true love makes the decision for him.
Sir Claude Montague has returned to the Cinque Ports to celebrate his little sister’s birthday. Once he arrives, he is asked to protect Rose (the girl who broke his heart eight years ago) who is about to have a baby while her husband and father are at the service to the king – awkward. Lady Evelina De Pont is running away from betrothal to a horrible man, and has come to England hoping to find someone she can love and who will love her; for the moment she is hiding and pretending to be Rose’s nursemaid. When Claude and Evelina meet, they do not make good first impressions on each other. When Claude realizes he has come to care for Evelina, he feels she is forbidden to him for marriage, first because he believes her to be a servant, and then because he learns that she is betrothed. It seems Claude is destined to return to France alone, again.
There is some intrigue and a little adventure in this emotional, character-driven story. Claude needs to get past his longing for Rose. Rose might have thought through her request for Claude, of all people, to be at her side for the birth of her child. Perhaps Evelina might have shared her secret with Rose or Claude sooner. Sometimes the emotional battles of coming to adulthood are harder than those on the battlefield. This is a good one. You’ll enjoy it. You’ll want to smack Claude on the back of the head a time or two, but that’s all right, he needs it.
Love Returned. This book contains spoilers if read before the Barons of the Cinque Ports, however it is in itself a standalone story and can be easily read with no prior knowledge. Claude who fell deeply in love in his youth must let go of his first love to find future happiness but how can he have feelings for a commoner? Lady Evelina, a French count’s daughter, is posing as a servant in order to escape her betrothal to a cruel man, but finds it difficult to keep up the pretence (particularly holding her tongue) around Sir Claude. A story that bring many past characters back together and gives Claude a happy ending. Did find some of the prose rather flowery at times and Claude himself did not particularly appeal to me as a hero. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sir Claude Montague has come back to England for the first time in years. Supposedly he left to take over his inherited holdings in France, but really it was because the girl he loved married someone else. Now his family have persuaded him to come to a celebration. Lady Evelina Du Pont has escaped from France and an unwanted marriage. She is pretending to be a nursemaid. There is no way she will marry a man who is known for beating women. She wants to marry for love. This story is part of a series that is best read in order, but each book can be read on it's own. Very interesting and entertaining characters that you will easily fall in love with.
A sweet story about finding love after a broken heart
This story brings back a beloved secondary character from one of Ms. Rose's earlier books. Claude had his heart broken by his best friend and he was still carrying that pain 8 years later when he returned to England. Seeing her still so in love with another man still hurt, to the point he almost missed finding his own happy ending. But his happy ending has secrets of her own that almost cost them their future together as well. Both have lessons to learn about trust, honesty, and letting go of the past. Do yourself a favor and read Forbidden. You won't be sorry!
Claude, introduced in another book as a young boy in love with Rose, left England when Rose marries another man. When he returns as a knight, he hopes to be with Rose even though she is happily married and pregnant. Too bad her nurse maid is distracting enticing, even though he knows Evelina is hiding something...
This book was a short and sweet regency romance that was full of the predictable turmoil of the age. However, the story has all the components that keeps the reader interested. Sometimes you just need to read a "happy ending" novella and Elizabeth Rose delivers.
This author is new to me and I will continue to read her series. Enjoy!
This is the second book in the ‘ Second in Command “Series. Having read many, many books of Ms Rose, I was a little disappointed in this one. Claude was portrayed as an arrogant, rude, spoilt, little boy, and I felt he didn’t really grow up much through out the story. The story was also missing Ms Roses usual adventure. Although this can be read as a stand alone book, having read the story of Claude’s childhood and his relationship with his parents in The Baron’s Destiny “– book 3 of the Barons of the Clinque Port series would have made the story more enjoyable. It is still a nice read.
Claude returns from France at the request of his mother only to find out the only woman he has ever loved has requested his return. Rose loves her husband and is expecting their child at any moment. She wants Claude with her while her husband and father are on the King’s business. Evelina is nursemaid for Rose’s family, but there is more to her than she is telling everyone. Romance is just one factor that makes this story an exciting read. Elizabeth Rose has twists and turns that meets her usual highly enchanting stories. Forbidden does not disappoint at all!
This is a fast paced story and although it’s not essential, if you read the story of Claude’s parents ( The Baron’s Destiny ) it provides the background to this story. Claude is quite a complex character, although given his history this isn’t surprising. Although, he has loved Rose for some time, he is attracted to Evalina, even though she is a servant. Evalina has secrets of her own! An entertaining read, Felix, the squire was amusing, always saying inappropriate things.
I was so looking forward to reading this book and it didn't disappoint! I think this is the first time I read a book where the hero thinks himself in love with someone other than the heroine and it made for quite the story. One can't deny the attraction Claude and Evelina have for each other, though, and you can't help but feel for both of them. Thank you, Elizabeth Rose, for another wonderfully written book!! Highly recommend this book!
Claude grew to be a man but still had Rose in his heart. He was called to England from France for his young sisters birthday. There was Rose and he still loved her even though she was happily married. Then he met Evelina that was a lady but posed as a servant. Claude’s heart was torn between the two ladies. Evelina told Claude to stop living in the past. He then proposed his love to Evelina.
To love someone and have them love you like a sibling? Yikes!! That's the situation Claude is in. He is truly broken. Then he meets someone that makes him feel something just a little different. Read this wonderful book and get caught up in this knight's world like I did. Ms. Rose creates a world of escape and love that always satisfies!
This is a good story about Claude who can't let go of his past love even though she is happily married and Evelina who is running from an arranged marriage and hiding out as a hand maiden. At first Claude and Evelina ate not crazy about each other. They begin to have feelings for each other but Claude knows Evelina has secrets and he is a noble and she is only a servant. Right?
This book was a little too simple for me. I felt it was written for a young girl, the way they expressed themselves etc. But as there was a bedroom scene of intimacy that rules out a clean read for a younger person. So I would not recommend this book to the younger set.
The love story of Claude and Evelina. Rose and Toft are marry and having a baby and Claude is still in love with Rose. Rose has a new nursemaid, she is a runaway. Evelina is a lady acting as a handmaid to Lady Rose. She teach Claude to live in the present not the past. Do he learn to love again? Great story.
Another great story from Ms. Rose. The hero is the next generation of one of the Barons of the Cinque Ports. It can be read as a stand alone, but it helps if you have previously read the Barons series. Good romantic angst, good plot. Enjoyed it very much.
A superb book by Elizabeth Rose. The brave and gallant Sir Knight Claude can't forget his first love, that is until he meets the feisty Evelina, A lady pretending to be a handmaid. The chemistry is definitely apparent between the 2 of them. I highly recommend this book. You wont be disappointed.
Claude- came bk to England at his mom's request. Eveline- from France posing as a maid of sorts to hide from an unwanted betrothal . I enjoyed reading this intriguing story that is well written with lovable characters. Their story has a sweet HEA.
