This felt like going through the motions of a story. Nothing was special or different about it. It didn’t hold my interest.

STORY BRIEF:
Marisela used to be in a street gang. Now she works as a part-time bounty hunter. Ian runs an investigation firm. Ian hires Marisela and her former boyfriend Frankie to work for him on a kidnapping case. The father kidnapped his daughter Jessica when she was young and raised her in Puerto Rico. Jessica is now 17. The mother hires Ian to bring Jessica back to the U.S. The father is a rich and powerful arms dealer.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
I just couldn’t get into this. It reminds me of other novels about a tough female bounty hunter or investigator (of sorts) who has complicated approach/avoidance relationships with two men at the same time - in this case her boss and her former boyfriend. It felt like going through the motions of a story, but nothing was special or different. The plot was ok but ordinary. For a great story you need characters that interact in interesting ways, or characters that are fun to watch just as themselves. The characters in this book had nothing to set them apart. Unfortunately, I skimmed parts of the book reading the first line of each paragraph until I got to parts that were more interesting.

The key ingredient is Marisela’s character. She’s a tough fighter and loves the adrenaline rush that comes from a high-risk job. Her instincts are so good that she guessed someone’s ulterior motive and successfully acted on it. She was smarter than her boss who caused some problems. It felt odd that her boss did some stupid and incompetent things. I’m not sure why it was odd. Anyway, I did not enjoy this. I prefer Shelly Fredman or Janet Evanovich for this kind of story.

This book is labeled “Naughty Girls” by Pocket Books. I was expecting it to be a romance novel, but it’s not. It doesn’t fit the definition because Marisela does not end up with a guy at the end. However there are sex scenes and a happy ending. So far there are two books in this series.

One thing that annoyed me was the use of Spanish words. Throughout the book, the author would put a Spanish word into an English sentence. I did not know what most of the Spanish words meant. Some authors provide the meaning in parentheses or italics after each foreign word (which I like). This author did not. A couple of times she had complete sentences in Spanish. Apparently the author thinks she is bringing a Latin flavor to the book. I was annoyed with how it was done.

CAUTION MINOR SPOILERS:
I could not believe that Marisela’s boss went to the bad guy and told the bad guy what Marisela was doing. I couldn’t buy it. He was her boss, he could have influenced her actions in other ways than blabbing to the enemy. I was shaking my head. Maybe I’m not smart enough to see his reasoning. They are in enemy territory and the enemy is all-powerful. You don’t give the enemy a motive to kill your employees while they are there. Maybe this might have been an ok plot twist, but there was no logic to support it. It had a “thrown in feeling.”

There was something else that didn’t make sense to me. It was a minor event, but it bothered me. Frankie’s parents hire Marisela to get Frankie to appear in court. She handcuffs Frankie to a bed in his parents’ home and then leaves expecting his parents to take him to court the next day. What’s to prevent Frankie from running off from his parents as soon as they remove the handcuffs? Shouldn’t Marisela stay with him or come back the next day to make sure he gets to court? She’s the tough bounty hunter.

DATA:
Story length: 315 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 3. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 11. Setting: current day Florida and Puerto Rico. Copyright: 2005. Genre: female adventure suspense, potential romance to be continued.

Marisela Morales is a woman who knows what she wants, and is willing to push her brains and body to the max to make things happen. Julie Leto has combined a brilliant plot with believable characters in the first book of her Dirty Series, Dirty Little Secrets.
Dirty Little Secrets does a fabulous job of playing the right cards, in the right order, to hold a reader’s attention through all the sizzling nuances of the story. Leto has developed a real person with her character, Marisela. Marisela isn’t a random woman dropped into a hardcore world to immediately kick-ass and take names with no qualifying characteristics. Her Florida breed, street smart background has made her a prime candidate to be drawn into the loco world of subterfuge and criminals that her ex-boyfriend, Frankie, has recommended her for.
Marisela and Frankie will take you for a sexy, turbulent ride as they struggle to sort through the obstacles that pop up in their way when they set out to fulfill Marisela’s first mission for Titan International Investigations. Her suave new boss, Ian Blake, will have Marisela making difficult choices between the past, present, and future when she negotiating the murky waters of Titan International and her assignment. Is the dollar the bottom line? Are new possibilities worth sacrificing for? Should Marisela put her faith in the new and unknown? Or should she give a second chance to the past that walked away?
Dirty Little Secrets is a definite ‘must read’. All the right questions will be answered and leave you ready for another helping of Leto’s talented style. Let Marisela stoke your embers in this hot read.

Well, I guess this is really 3.5 stars. The book is a sexy action story with a down on her luck Cuban-American woman with a hot body she isn't afraid to use and who has serious fighting skills. She ends up in some strange situations where she seems to be continually attacked by one party or another. The hero is her ex, recently returned to town and ready to leave again. They end up together, in more than one way, and find that they care for one another.

This is not a love at first sight, or a remembering of how good they were together story. They are seriously attracted to each other, and while they rebuild trust through the story, their interactions are characterized more by sex than anything. The reason I didn't give this book more stars is that the heroine is a bit naive--a man in an expensive suit and shoes sets her up, knows about her past, and offers her a job. She just goes for it, and believes the story told about the job as well. Her redeeming feature is her ability to read people, but I felt she bought into the situation far too easily.

The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.

Dirty Little Secrets is the digital re-release of a previous title by New York Times best-selling author, Julie Leto. I've had the paperback original of this book on my TBR shelf forever and I could kick myself for not moving it to the top of the list. Marisela Morales, the heroine of this sexy suspense, is a former Latina gang girl from West Tampa. There are two things she does well--get into and get out of trouble. She finds trouble with a capital T in this first book of the series. Marisela is given the opportunity to move into the major leagues by working for Titan International, a private investigation company with wide-ranging tentacles and a handsome boss. Hot-blooded Marisela is tempted but her ex, as in ex-boyfriend and ex-tremely hot, Frankie Vega, is there complicating her life and sending her hormones into overdrive.

There were times I wanted to slap Marisela up side the head. There were times I wanted to bang Marisela and Frankie's heads together. There were times when I couldn't put the darn book down, even at 5:00 a.m. in the morning. This novel is as sexy as hot Tampa night and as smooth as a custom-made cuba libre, which I will admit was my mixed drink of choice for way more years than I should remember. I enjoyed the hell out of this book and rejoice that Ms. Leto has added diversity to the kick-ass heroine roll call. And yeah, Frankie really is that hot...

Marisela Morales is former enforcement worker looking to collect her next paycheck but hoping to find her next job. Marisela hoping to keep her feelings to herself especially where Frankie Vega is concerned. Marisela and Frankie have a long history with each other going back to being teenagers in gangs together. Marisela fought her way out of gang life and she's been using her skills to make ends meet. But her days in enforcement ended with her losing her license yet that is not stopping her from making sure Frankie makes his court date. Frankie Vega wants nothing more than to finish being employed by Ian Blake. Frankie is furious with Marisela but doesn't want to see her hurt either. Ian Blake offers Marisela a chance at a job but unsure if she'll fit into his ideal agent either. Marisela is working closely with Frankie learning all sort of things needed to complete the mission effectively. Marisela doesn't like Ian Blake's client Elise Barton-Ryce at all even though client tries to persuade Marisela to her cause. Marisela isn't buying what Elise is selling at all. Javier Perez is the man targeted by the mission but it's his daughter that is the true mission. Javier has done every thing in his power to protect his daughter Jessica from all harm. Is Javier the man Marisela been led to believe? What is Elise's true motive? Can Ian Blake be trusted? Where does Frankie fit into this? Will Marisela trust her instincts? Your answers are in Dirty Little Secrets.

Dirty Little Secrets
By Julie Leto

Marisela is a tough, take no prisoners kind of girl. She has had a lot of different jobs through her life so far but none that seem to fit who she really is. And she just lost the best paying job she has had. Her next order of business is to stop her ex, Frankie, from jumping bail and she knows just the way to do it. Once she has him secure, she just wants to relax and get some sleep. But someone out there has other plans for Marisela. It seems that Frankie has given her name to some organization that he has worked for in the past and she suddenly finds herself in one troubling situation after another. The only question on her mind now is.... what has Frankie gotten her into.

This is book one in a series. It was a fast paced, action packed book that I really enjoyed. It is a sexy suspense that kept me interested throughout the entire book. The characters were interesting and drew me into their story line. I enjoyed the story and the characters' relationships to each other and the way they dealt with one another. Made me eager to read the other books in the series. Can't wait to see what happens with Marisela next.

I enjoyed this book and will probably read the next in the series. I like the idea behind the book. Marisela is an ex gang member turned bond agent who is now looking for a new job. Enter Frankie, an ex boyfriend who is also ex gang and has a few other little secrets. They are both hired for a job which involves recovering a kidnapped child from her father. Marisela feels there is more to the story and wants to get tot the bottom especially since a child is concerned.

This book was touted as a romantic suspense.... Eh not so much romance. A little sex in the beginning but only a couple of other scenes really. But the suspense portion was great. I loved the actual story and didn't miss the romance or really think it was needed. This book is a solid 3.25 stars for me and only that low because I hate looking up words I dont know. There were a lot of Spanish and even more Spanish slang. I took 4 years of Spanish but it was a long time ago and honestly these were not the words I was taught. ;) So I had to have Spanish translator up on other screen to keep up with what I was reading.

OK, I only downloaded it because it was free and who doesn't appreciate some mindless reading on occasion? I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Sure there's the cliche romance going on and one wonders why the notion that a strong woman who loses all sense when next to a beautiful man is appealing to people but since men do it all the time, perhaps it's just a form of social equality...sort of. Any way you cut it though the heroine here is a delicious blend of sugar and spice and the action sequences are truly quite good.

I love this series! I like that Marisela has a rough past and makes no apologies for it. I love that even with all the give-and-take with Frankie, their break-up years ago was because he wanted money and the respect of his homeboys more than he wanted Marisela. I've read plenty of romances in which the young couple broke up because of a misunderstanding or because one of them was trying to protect the other from something. There is just something refreshing and human about Marisela and Frankie. I do NOT like Ian and hope he either becomes more likeable or stops pursuing Marisela.

I first read Julie Leto at christmas time and found her story of Marisela and Frankie to be an entertaining, light read. This one was the beginning of Marisela working with Titan and I had been interested enough from my Xmas read to want a little more of this type of enjoyable book without the depth or level of concentration some of the other books I'm working on take.

Dirty Little Secrets didn't disappoint. There is action, sex, and intrigue in large enough doses to keep me coming back for more between the heavier reading I do. :)

When I read the blurb about this book it sounded very intriguing and unique, and it was. I enjoyed the characters, the action packed plot, the what the hell moments and more. I wasn't as in love with this book as I thought I would be but it was very good. The author captured my attention but in some parts not so much. Marisela is a tough as nails bounty hunter a complete change from her gang years and Frankie well he's bad to the bone that's for sure..these two characters are amazing together. Great read...4 stars

If you took a Stephanie Plum book and put it on steroids, this may be what you end up with. The opening of the book may lead you to believe it's going to be a little smutty (which is fine :)!) but the opening bedroom scene isn't an indication of the rest of the book, it really has a good storyline, fast paced action and is easily read. I will definitely read the second Marisela Morales book and hope the third gets published.

This book has it all. I couldn't put it down. Needless to say, we are eating dinner late tonight. :) Marisela was the heroine of my dreams. She's smart, sassy and can take care of her own. Frankie, her first love, the bad boy hero of my dreams is her partner. This book was just so awesome! I hope that in Dirty Little Lies she ends up with him. I read the opening two paragraphs and I hope I'm misintrepreting. If not, I now offically want to punch Marisela.

What a discovery! A Latino heroine who's sassy, smart, funny. As a private investigator, teamed with her long-term on/off significant other, you feel the steam curling the digital pages as they play, oh and get into all sorts of danger fighting off the bad guys.

That much overused phrased of 'I couldn't put it down' comes into its own on this particular occasion. I'm dashing off to buy the other books in this series.

I truly like the whole angle of this book, but I'm also a big fan of Janet Evanovich's books too. So I like that Marisela is a bad girl and willing to get her hands dirty to pull off some amazing script. She did great In this book and I look forward to this series. This was my first from this author and I devoured it. Her ending was superior too, I love how she saved Frankie's ass and even turned the boss on a little too. Hot stuff this woman!

Eh...the story line was okay, but I can definitely feel a Stephanie Plum vibe happening. Instead of Joe and Ranger, Marisela has Frank and Ian. The story was a bit predictable, but fun. I wish they had explained more about the relationship between Frank and Marisela and their history...I felt like a missed something...

Fast paced, grab you by the balls fiction. Marisela is a no-nonsense, take no prisoners kind of girl with a shaded past, but a small heart. She personifies the modern-day heroine everyone would like to be. This is a must read for any romantic suspense reader. I would definitely read more of this author's books.

I enjoyed the character development in this book. The protagonists were ex-gang members with violent backgrounds, yet their past is what makes them perfect for their career choice. Strong, well drawn characters. Lots of plot twists and unexpected double-crosses make this a fast-paced, fun story to read.

Good story, unlike previous reviewers, I did not get a Stephanie Plum vibe. It's nice to have a Latina as the main character in a book. Some one who is trying to learn from her past & improve her future. I can't wait see what the writer has in store for her next. Please bring on the next book.

This is similar to the Stephanie Plum novels, just as entertaining. The only thing I would say is there are a lot of typos, etc. Annoying to me. The story was interesting and the characters were entertaining. I will read more of them! Fun, quick read.

I like this book because as a Hispanic woman I love to see how the heroine is a strong Hispanic woman that can take care of herself. I like how she also can have her space and let a man in because she wants to and not because she feels helpless. Good Read.
