Jewel of Darkness

Rate this book
Dalton Black never thought he'd find his true mate. His dark past convinced him that he could never be worthy of one, but the Great Luna did not agree. She saw fit to give him a gypsy healer, the purest of heart among their kind. And now that he's finally found her, she slips through his grasp and into the hands of Volcan, a corrupt high fae driven mad by his own need for power. Now Dalton, with help from his own powerful friends, must find Jewel and rescue her before Volcan can use her blood to create witches and once again throw off the balance of good and evil. As their journey begins, Perizada will once again lead a group of wolves on a hunt to bring down evil, but little do they know that Volcan is just a drop of blood in the sea of supernatural beings about to darken their path.

Hello, Readers. My name is Quinn Loftis and I am lucky enough to call myself a novelist. In 2011, I self-published my first novel, Prince of Wolves with no expectations, other than my friends and family might purchase the book out of pity. Now, several years later, with 30+ novels and counting under my belt, Prince of Wolves had been downloaded over 1 million times. Though I was hesitant at the time to submit my work to the world for their scrutiny, I'm so glad I did. It made my dream of making a living by telling stories a reality.

I'm blessed to share my household my wonderful husband of more than twenty years (who also co-writes with me on occasion), three beautiful sons, a French Bulldog, and an oversized tabby cat. I love hearing from readers, so if you have any questions about the books or my journey, don't hesitate to hit the 'Contact Quinn' in the menu above. Thank you so much for taking a chance on my books.

Can I put half a book on my amazing shelf? Is that allowed? Is it possible?
I'm doing it.

I ADORE Quinn Loftis, her writing is fantastic and she made me fall head over heels in love with one of her characters (COSTIN), and by head over heels I mean I would totally marry him in a heartbeat if he didn't have his mate. But I completely adore his mate and they are my favorite pairing of all time (even above Katniss and Peeta which IS CRAZY I KNOW) but I am getting off topic! I just need to write a whole review on how much I love Sally and Costin apparently.

ANYWAY
A quick spoiler free premise:
Jewel is still stuck with Volcan in Luna knows where. Dalton is still pretty pissed because of that development. Then Volcan pulls some pretty crazy dark blood magic, succeeding in pissing off Dalton more and causing Jewel to do some even crazier things.
The other gypsies are still in Pixieland.
Peri is trying to figure out how to either stop the fan or stop the crap, introducing us to some new races in the processes, and dragging Sally and Costin with her.

NOW the reason I am giving a rating of 3 stars ( oh gosh my heart ) is because of some very frustrating developments.
*Disclaimer* The words in quotations are not actually quotes from the book, they are what I believe must have been going through these girls heads when they made their decisions
1. Jewel
I get what your going for Quinn, I really do, but Jewel came off as a snobby know-it-all who seems to believe that she was the only one with a working brain and everyone else just got a pink brain-sized piece of Styrofoam. Jewel not only made dumb decisions for herself, but she also made these decisions on the premise that she thought that everyone would be better off if she just chose for them.
Also, Jewel and Dalton had literally a 5 page conversation about their relationship that went nowhere. I found myself skimming until I reached a scene with characters that didn't make me want to tear my hair out.
2. ANNA
Oh Anna. Anna, Anna, Anna. I wanted, and still want, to strangle you. Anna's main purpose in the book was just to be annoying it seemed, and it worked.

3. I hated the plot twist at the end of the book. It still makes me cringe thinking about it. And it wasn't the plot twist itself, but how the characters involved reacted. I personally would not be happy if I was being used to spread evil, so I'm having a hard time understanding why they seem so cool with it. "See ya! We are leaving you to start something creepy that may destroy! Have a good rest of your week!"
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY POR QUE WHYYY

At the end of the book I was starting to feel very sorry for Peri Fairy. Dealing with crazy women and frustrated men would be AWFUL . Buuuuut then I remembered she had Lucian.

My FAVORITE part happened in the abandoned mansion, but I can't say exactly because that would be a spoiler my dear children, and is frowned upon in most societies.
Just know that there is a metaphor in that scene that is EPIC and HILARIOUS. Sally's character arc is just amazing in itself. Anything positive I write always comes back to Sally and Costin I swear.

Quinn, YOU GAVE ME MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS FOR CHRISTMAS. I cannot thank you enough for that. If you write 1000 books about the Grey Wolves I will read them. This one just fell flat for me, mostly because of the characters this book revolved around.

REDEMPTION IS STILL POSSIBLE.

(P.S. I would never cheat on Costin, but Nick seems adorable)

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve read every single one of Quinn’s books and I’ve loved them all! This one did not disappoint. I’ve been a fan of The Grey Wolves Series since the beginning and I was so glad when she started this spin-off series for the Gypsy Healers. I love these characters and the whole story line, it’s magical (Yes, pun intended)! Give yourself and/or someone else the gift of this book!

"SHE WAS THE SUN IN A LIFE THAT HAD BEEN PLAGUED WITH WINTER. SHE WAS THE BRIGHTEST STAR SHINING ONTO THE DARKNESS THAT HAD EATEN AWAY AT HIS SOUL."

I've read so many books between this one and the last Quinn Loftis book that I started to forget how great she was. Well let me just say ...I've been set straight!
She took me back, way back, to the all the FEELS in JEWEL OF DARKNESS. From the hurts, heartaches, suffering, to the never ending love and devotion of a soulmate. How faith and love can heal and light up the darkest, damaged part of you. It was so beautiful to see the dynamic of the wolves with their mates. They were the perfect counter part of what each other needs. A strength to their weakness. A calm to their storm. A sooth to their pain. A safety zone to each others chaos. A warm blanket to their vulnerability.
The way she can write a story is so creatively touching. It pulls at the heart strings. The way Quinn writes so many points of views with out making it confusing and over whelming is ingenious. I love, love the little character quotes she has at the beginning of every chapter...making sure to keep me hooked.
And of course I love the characters! The alpha males...I repeat...THE ALPHA MALES. Why do you have to be written so sexy and dominantly perfect *sigh* (this is the moment were I lean on my hand and look off into space, imagining I'm a gypsy healer)
And the female leads were vulnerable but strong, lost but being found. They weren't with out their scars. But they still had a pureness about them. A kind spirit. And their dynamic with each other was quite humors, even in a terrible situation.

"JEWEL WANTED TO SPIT IN HIS FACE. SHE WANTED TO DANCE AN IRISH JIG ON HIS MAN PARTS AND LISTEN TO HIS SCREAMS AS HER FEET SLAMMED INTO HIM."

It ended with you wanting more, more, more. Oh Quinn Loftis how I love your work. Thank you for reminding me why you are one of my MOST FAVORITE Arthurs. In a sky of many stars you shine the brightest.

So much is happening!! new characters, bigger dilemmas and even more wise cracks. Not enough. Need more. Serious withdrawal from our wheeler's adventures now that I finished it. Such a dark, fun and intense book. Everything went wrong but it was so right because you know that all our feisty ladies and overbearing yet heart-stopping males never disappoint.

Oh.my.god. Three books in and Dalton and Jewel are still separated. Wtf. And we still have four more pairs to read about. I'm going to be reading these until I'm 60 at this rate.
I didn't like this one. I felt like I paid $4 to go no where in the story. Sorry.

Very disappointed of the plot in this book. I feel like I read a whole book and didn't read anything at all! How does a writer leave one hanging in a cliff in the previous book and then writes a whole book to not put an end to it? How many more books before Dalton and Jewel get to be together?! The other mates Didn't even get to meet!!! For crying out loud!!! I felt like I was scrawling through the pages to see I found something interesting because this book was full of never ending dialogues that didn't come to mean anything at the end. Not sure if I will continue the series.

You know how in a book there's usually a beginning, middle, and an end? The beginning sets up everything nicely, introduces the characters, a bit of backstory and then shit hits the fan. The middle, if the author does their job right, is supposed to hook us in and make us want to know how the book ends.

But sometimes the book never really gets off the ground. You wait and you wait and you wait some more and then you hear the voice from SpongeBob saying, "Twenty years later," and you're like, "Finally something fucking happens!!!!"

I felt like that was this entire book.

I mean there were a couple places I got genuinely excited. The end, for example. Also the beginning because the last book set up this one so very nicely. But the middle?

Well, the middle made me want to tear my hair out.

It was literally the same problems over and over and over again. Oh the mean fairy Peri won't let the werewolves see their Gypsy mates. Oh Jewel is a dumbass. Oh Dalton wants to be with his mate but she keeps running away from him because she's a dumbass. Oh Great Luna my mate needs me but the mean fairy won't let me see her. Oh woe is me I'm the fairy Peri and these werewolves are overreacting even though they have a right to and I'm keeping them from their mates to protect everyone even though I'm doing a fucking horrible job and one or more of them is probably going to get killed because I won't let their mates protect them.

Can you tell I don't like Peri?? Every time I read from her perspective I wanted to shoot her. I was rooting for Dalton to rip her throat out, I really really really was.

The only reason I kept reading is because I want to see the werewolves finally fucking meet their mates. Especially Heather and Kale. I cannot wait to read that. Will Heather see through his eyes? Will she run away from him?? Probably. Because the mate bond is a scary thing and males are scary and having someone that loves you unconditionally and will always be there for you and literally the other half of your fucking soul is just so fucking scary.

How do I put a Quinn Loftis book into words?
Reading a Quinn Loftis book is like riding a roller coaster. You start each book in anticipation for the humour, excitement, and most importantly, sexy wolves. The plot grabs you and rips you down the story, leaving an emotional mess behind. It makes you laugh, cry and yell at your wall. When you get to the last page, you cry in anguish. "It's over!" The ending of the books leaves you clawing with all of your being for more.
This book is no different. The book grabbed me and still hasn't let go. I don't think it ever will...until the next one comes out.
I read this book in a three-day span and still cannot wrap my head around all of the events that occurred in this book.
Thank you, Quinn Loftis, for your amazing stories! I will never hesitate and read them.

Being an avid reader of Quinn Loftis, and have read every single book of hers and loved it! I can't help but feel disappointed by Jewel of Darkness, for me it didn't seem to further the plot and could be classed as a novella than an actual full length novel. The characters continue to frustrate me as Jewel and Dalton's story continues with the same theme of being separated for the THIRD NOVEL!

I wish I could say I loved this, however, it did make an interesting read and I would still recommend it to fans of quinn Loftis!

I can't wait to finally see Nick and the other unmated males and the gypsy healers finally be united and hope for a novel for each as I believe they are all worthy of a full novel and not one shared between many!

I loved this book. There has to be away to fix things. It can't end this way!!!

Mrs. Quinn Loftis, you've done it again. I was immediately sacked into the world you created. Your characters are so real. I wished I could actually talk to them.

I would definitely recommend this book and any other book written by Quinn Loftis!

3.5

I don't usually write reviews, but here goes nothing. First I just want to share a little bit of my Loftis love. Quinn Loftis is like a writing goddess! I've never seen anybody write quite like her. I love how that even though it's in third person, it flows so smoothly and the characters are developed so well and the relationships are just so beautiful! I feel like through each book, The Grey Wolves series and The Gypsy Healers series, I've grown to love the characters. They make me laugh, and sometimes they bring on the feels, and they are totally easy to relate too! --- Now with all that being said, Jewel of Darkness did not disappoint! This book definitely kept me is suspense. I kept waiting for all the healers to meet their mates, but then they left me hanging. And right when I think Dalton and Jewel can finally be together, Volcan just had to go and butt in with his dark fae witchery! Now I can't wait to get my hands on the next one! Once again I just love the relationships: the ones between friends and the ones between mates. Even when everything is going to hell in a hand basket, they all manage to stick together and be there for each other all the while managing to have a good laugh. All I can say is stunning and abso-freaking-lutely amazing!

I have to say the more of the series I read the more frustrating they become. We spend most of our time reading about them sitting around or complaining than anything. The little action that does take place is over before it really begins. The whole time you're thinking of smacking the next blonde that runs right into the enemy even though they know they shouldn't.

Add that Peri is starting to seem more and more less powerful, she seems more into playing couples therapist than she is in finding Volcan. It was easy for the pixie to find him but not the all-powerful Peri? I have a feeling Thadrick is going to be meeting Gem but at this point, I'm starting to really be over the series because of all the nothing that's going on.

I enjoy all these books but Jewel is just annoying. How can her mentality think she could stop evil by herself. Duh she's so smart that she's stupid. Anna really running away from your mate just why. Then the ending how could it just end that way. Need the next one quick hopefully jewels stupidity will end in the next book.

Frustrating! I was thinking that no other books were listed in the series because this was a trilogy & therefore the last one. Nope, we are left with a cliffhanger & no word on another book. I do enjoy the author's books, but despise being left with zero answers. Hopefully there is something in the works to continue this spin-off.

********** Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book. I really believe that Jewel made a stupid decision going with Volcan, to save the ones she cares about. I suppose the Dark Magic that Volcan uses is an allure for Jewel to finally feel powerful, and it tickles her thirst of knowledge. When Volcan took Jewel he blocked their mate bond, so Dalton could feel her in the background but couldn’t communicate mentally. Dalton wants to try and find Jewel, and the first stop before they hunt is to Jewel’s mum Gem, as he has a feeling that she knows something and therefore she may be able to help in their hunt for Jewel.

Dalton agrees to only take Dillon, Peri and Lucian as that’s all he can handle in his current state. Gem gives them some insight into what happens if Dalton doesn’t save Jewel. Volcan will end up making her into a witch baby factory, and therefore many people will die. Peri thinks that the Vampires might have information pertaining to Volcan’s whereabouts so she takes Dalton, Dillon and Lucian to a coven but when they get there she barely holds them back with her magic in time as they can smell all the death and blood, and to make matters worse it’s the blood of innocents, meaning children.

She wants answers, but as the Vampires display what I’m guessing is their latest kill that’s obviously a child, she unleashes the wolves and tells them to kill them all. Peri watches as Dalton completely losses his sh*t and ends up killing the whole coven himself before attacking Peri. She’s about to let him have it but Lucian tells her that there’s a reason that he’s lost it, and that probably has to do with Jewel so ask him. This book was definitely an emotional roller coaster. It seems like Volcan is one step ahead of them.

The Pixie Realm is lockdown. Peri thinks that it’s Volcan’s doing. Kara, Heather, Stella, Adam and Crina are now trapped inside with a possibly enraged Alpha Canis Lupus, and Anna’s mate Gustavo who can’t get to his mate as he felt her leave the realm. I’m heading back to the Grey Wolves Series, Den of Sorrow book 9, and seeing what the Romanian and Serbian Packs are up to next. I’m I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

I wanted to give 2 stars but this book truly enraged me.

First of all, I HATE the covers from this author, like come on! the girls on the cover do not even look remotely how they are described in the book.

I hate how the stories of the 5 gypsy healers completely ruin the complete idea of mate bond, werewolf powers, sacredness of the whole thing, and even the "ultimate" power of a high fae like Peri, what the hell?! Isn't she supposed to be really strong? I thought gypsy healers are supposed to be the ultimate goodness, no?! How come they are so EASILY corrupted then? Even going to the darkness willingly and gladly, jeez what a bummer. The only thing good about this is Costin & Sally and Peri & Lucian but we already knew them so did we truly need them here as well? Also how much can Dalton take from the horrible Jewel? Why does Anna keep running from sth so good and right into the arms of a witch, is she mad? How dumb are these girls? I'm just now waiting when the others join them, I hope Heather won't though I like the one the best, maybe also Kara.

I'm afraid that whatever good ending they each get (I don't even care if they die at this point) it won't by far compensate for the evil and emotional damage they've done to their mates and friends, nobody can stay and root for these girls like come on!

Signing out... returning to the 'Luna of Mine' The Grey Wolves series as I can't read any more of this crap. (For now)

Damnit with this series! I love the world Quinn has brought to us. I like the characters, and I enjoy the story line. HOWEVER this series is just so dang slow. With the grey wolves, yes occasionally we had to span a couple books to get the whole story, but this is just getting painful now. I have finished 3 whole books and almost NOTHING has moved past where it began. None of the healers are actually mated. Only 2 have even MET their mates. They don’t know where Volcan is. They don’t know how to stop him. They don’t know who is working with him. All we have successfully accomplished is explaining why he wants the healers, but even that doesn’t seem enough for one book let alone three. I want so much from this series, and yes I’m partially using it to fill in the missing time for the next grey wolves book, but come on already. Give me SOMETHING. Move at least one story line along. Put something else into the story other than Healers keep getting away and in trouble, peri is frustrated, the mates want their healers, tension and issues between Jewel and dalton, and a bunch of wolves are just hanging out, sparring in the farie realm. That is all we have gotten in 3 whole books; over 100 pages. I need book 4 to finally have SOMETHING new to it.

Just when you think reality can't get more twisted it does!
Jewel stone has been kidnapped by a evil high fae when mere months ago she was a regular teen, dealing with bullies now she's thrust head first into a supernatural world she didn't know existed, she's to be mated to a werewolf and now just as she adjusted to that idea this high fae deranged weirdo comes along spewing crap about wanting her to rebuild the witch population.. umm pass~...

Will Daton and the others find her before evil gets its claws into her pure soul?
Can jewel be the strong person she hopes she is?
Or will it all burn around them?

Another amazing story comprised with heartache, character growth and entertaining humor. The plot is getting much darker having a perfect balance of the signature romance and innocence of the series, but also feeling repetitive with character developments. Always appreciative of the different points of views makes the journey more personal and consuming. Excited for the next book the suspense of waiting is pure torture but always worth it.

This one took a little longer to read then the others nothing to do with how much I enjoy this author and and her stories. I love the dynamics between characters and how she continues to add more species to the mix adding to the full world, crossing her characters across book series helps keep it fresh. The modern references and use of current technology, music and vocabulary makes it more like a movie in your mind.
