Grumbuck!
Oliver und sein bester Freund Troll führen ein Café. Hier gibt es die leckersten Torten weit und breit! Kein Wunder, sind alle Trolle der Umgebung Stammgäste.
An einem besonders geschäftigen Tag verschwindet Molly, Olivers kleine Schwester. Oliver und sein Freund Troll machen sich auf die Suche, und ihr Weg führt sie zum gefürchteten Mampfberg. Dort wohnt der schreckliche, von allen gefürchtete Grumbuck! Grumbuck ist der größte, grünste, übellaunigste Troll von allen, er ist größer als zehn Bäume, isst Felsbrocken und trinkt ganze Flüsse leer. Oliver lässt sich von den Gerüchten nicht beeindrucken.
Und sein Freund Troll? Der ist sich da nicht so sicher …

Cakes, trolls, little sisters, a quest, and more!
I had already read this one in English 2 years ago, but then I spotted the book again in Dutch. Or well... to be exact.. I didn't realise it was this book. I thought it was a sequel. :P Yep. I totally forgot the blurb of the first book, and so didn't realise. Oh well, it gives me a chance to read this delightful, delicious, and exciting book again.
Meet Oliver, he and his best friend, Troll, run a shop filled with cakes, sweet delights, and of course drinks. Not for humans, oh no. This cafe is for trolls! Trolls of all sizes. Big, small, medium. Normally trolls eat kids, but eh, why eat kids when you can eat chocolate cake? Or a cupcake? Or cookies? Right! So far it is going well, but then. Dum dum dum, Oliver's little sisters managed to escape and so our duo is going on a quest. Because they have to go and save her.
I just was laughing so hard how they climbed all sorts of things while Trol was holding a delicious and mighty cake under his arm. All the while Oliver was dismissing all the silly things the other trolls had told him. About a big troll that lives on a mountain. A troll who could drink an entire river empty in one gulp, who ate stone (ouch?). In the mean time, the readers and Troll, could see that maybe Oliver should just look a bit closer to his surroundings. But hey, positivity works? I guess?
They climb a big tall mountain, and who is there? Well, you will have to read this book yourself. I will guarantee you will be happy, you will laugh your butt off.
That ending especially, I just adored it. At first it seemed to go x way, but then it turned out to be y. Oliver is a good kid. I just don't want to know how long it took him to do that. :P RIP him?
The art is gorgeous, I really love Adam Stower's art. It is bright, colourful, fun, and I love the characters.
Since I also read the English book, I have to say that the translation in Dutch is also pretty great and on point. I still don't understand why names get changed (though monsters I can imagine, but what is wrong with Oliver or Dolly, why do those have to be changed to Pietertje and Kaatje, I mean, really, we live in 2018, not 1910).
Lastly, I would recommend this fun, hilarious, troll and cake-filled book to everyone.

I really enjoyed reading this book to Alena. She was patient with me since I had to continually look up the words in English. I know some Spanish, but clearly not as much as I thought I knew. The illustrations are fabulous and helped me figure out what was going on. I wish our library had this book in English. I really like books by Adam Stower.

Oliver and Troll run a cafe for trolls, who are very partial to cake. Their adventure begins when Dolly, Oliver's sister goes missing. It is feared that she may have wandered into danger. Fearless Oliver and reluctant Troll search for Grumbug, a hugeTroll who lives up a mountain and is considered to be the threat. There are many laughs as the pair find that everything that is said about Grumbug is true. As the twosome locate Daisy relief turns to horror as Grumbug appears from behind the mountain. Having escaped the clutches of Grumbug with a speedy descent, Oliver puts his mind to cheering up Grumbug. The lively and colourful illustrations work well with the text. There are rhyming moments, alliteration and opportunities to explore the tr blend in what is a fun story with a twist.

Es muy divertido. No es nada largo y tiene unas ilustraciones preciosas. Mañana mismo miraré más libros de este autor en la biblioteca!

Ah, Oliver and Troll tale. Oliver is as care free and unphased by danger as ever. It's funny seeing so many trolls in one place. The entire story is unpredictable, full of laughs and surprises, especially at the end. Dolly is quite a character, like her brother, and I'm hoping she features in further adventures in what is an entertaining series!

Amongst the activeness of this book there are some wonderful moments where you can go off the page and chat about 'Where's Dolly? Can you see her? What do those big holes look like? Why are there fish out of water? Why do you think the Trolls wouldn't go with Oliver? Was Oliver brave?" I liked this one.

A fun little picture book that both my kids are loving right now. The pictures are wonderful and display clearly what's happening in the story. The choice of lettering fonts disappointing as it makes some of the words hard to read, and the writing trails in and out of rhyme. but after a few readings it all flows quite nicely. Another Solid borrow from the local library.
