Uncover a Lifetime of Lies in this Fantasy Adventure!
On day one, Charlie Damuzi and her mute twin brother Tirigan are blissfully unaware of the dangerous world they live in. They may be aliens living on Earth after the extinction of humans, but to Charlie, life is pretty mundane.
On day two, the Damuzi family is ripped apart by a family secret that forces the twins to flee the only home they’ve ever known.
Determined to find a way to reunite their family, Charlie and Tirigan travel to uncharted territory in search of their salvation.
But that’s just Charlie’s side of the story.
In the future, forty days from when we first meet the Damuzi twins, Tirigan is on the move. His destination is unknown, as are the people he’s surrounded himself with, but his mission is still the same. Keep his sister safe and reunite their family.
However, as Tirigan attempts to navigate the complex bonds he’s formed with his companions, he’s forced to confront the one thing in life he has yet to fully understand.
The characters in the story are well defined as is the setting. Indie Gantz has created a world rich with detail and action. It’s easy to get caught up in the story and not want to put the book down. Charlie and Tirrigan, the main characters, are wonderfully developed and given great depth.
The book was good and I am looking forward to book two in the Akasha series.
With a unique twist and changing points of view, this is a read to enjoy.
Charlie and Tirigan are alien twins born on Earth after humans have gone extinct. They've spent their lives traveling with their parents across the globe, meeting few people along the way. When their mother is suddenly captured, their father unveils a dangerous secret which forces the twins to flee to an unknown side of Earth on their own. This part of the story is told from Charlie's point of view, while her brother, Tirigan, slips in every few chapters with flashes to the future where they are on a dangerous mission and he must somehow protect her life.
When I picked this one up, I wasn't quite sure how these two points of view from two different time periods would slide together. But the author accomplishes this goal seamlessly. While Charlie does handle most of the book on her own as her and her brother find their world turned upside down and battle to figure out who they are, how they fit in and what they must face, Tirigan comes in only every few chapters as he divulges a dangerous scene in the future, where him and Charlie are closer to their main goal. While the future scene does give away certain bonds of future friendships and alliances, it by no means reveals enough to hint at the answers to the main questions. Instead, these glimpses give Tirigan much more character depth and allow the reader to connect with him on a level which isn't possible earlier. It's clever and works.
Although twins, Charlie and Tirigan couldn't be more different, and that makes these characters endearing. Both are determined, willful, kind, uncertain and smart, and thanks to Tirigan's refusal to talk to others and sole communication through his and Charlie's ability to read each other's thoughts, share a very powerful bond. Still, their personalities clash hard. Charlie is emotional, spontaneous, optimistic. Tirigan is more like a 'Spock' from Star Trek. His emotions are extremely held back, he's logical, and highly intelligent. Both, however, are easy to feel for and cheer for.
There's never a boring moment, and the plot layers as the tale deepens. Action is mixed with moments of question and discovery. The author takes the time to let explanations hit home, allowing the history and circumstances to gain somewhat solid footing—times when the story does slow down. But it's exciting to follow Charlie and Tirigan as they try to discover themselves and their world, while an unclear danger hangs over their heads. Especially since every character they meet is as intriguing as they are.
Science fiction meets magic in a dystopian atmosphere, making this a cross-genre read. Tirigan and Charlie like their mother and an entire species, have a magical ability to control the four elements. Take this with a secret control, which no one seems to fully understand or know about and the dystopian side hits as well. It's a great mix which makes for an intriguing read.
The worst part of this book is the cliff-hanger ending. Nothing is wrapped up by the end and the reader is left wanting more. And I want to know what happens to Charlie and Tirigan because these two appear to have tons of danger, excitement and secrets awaiting them.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.
Now here is the adventure novel full of suspense that readers have been waiting for! The first line grabs you from the very beginning as readers come to learn about the Anunnaki and how they integrated themselves on earth as observers of the human race. I haven't read a book of the sci-fi genre in quite some time and I must report that Passage was definately a great read to enthuse my interest in the genre. I'd compare Passage's sense of action and adventure with Contact and The Mothman Prophecies.
I really enjoyed how the narrative changed from Tirigan and Charlie. It really enhanced the reading experience and made them even more personable. Their process of trying to untangle the truth from the spun web of lies surrounding them is compelling and marks a sense of urgency for the characters. Indie Gantz kept up a rapid narrative throughout Passage, yet never failed to fully develop details about Charlie and Tirigan's world. The dual timelines and jumps kept changing the pace so that readers couldn't really settle in a specific rhythm.
There are a lot of intricacies and plot twists in Passage that will definitely have you awaiting the next installment in the trilogy. So look no further for your next sci-fi read.
Well, where do I start with this review? A good book has to have good characters, that's exactly what Passage has! The characters are well defined and so is the setting. The world is amazing - Indie has included such rich detail and action. This is a book where you will get caught up and it will be hard to put it down. I love how Indie has included two points of view from two different time periods.
This actually works soo well! The characters are introduced so well and their stories are perfect. There's truly a never dull moment and you're always on your toes. The action is mixed with moments of question and discovery. Indie has done such an amazing job explaining everything throughout the whole book. It's exciting following both Charlie and Tirigan as they try to discover themselves.
A friend recommended this book, and I was excited to get my hands on one of the first copies released. While it’s not my typical genre, I may have to rethink that about myself, because this book was wonderful. Within pages I was invested in the characters and their lives. Indie Gantz has a way with words that instantly and fully transports readers to when this series takes place. While giving detail to lay down the setting and back story, Indie Gantz builds a foundation for the series without bogging down the reader. Charlie and Tirigan are both likable and relatable and as the main characters they find everything they know to be only partial truths mixed with some lies. Their journey of discovery leaves the reader turning page after page to find out more right along with them. I’m looking forward to the release of the next book in the series and reading more by Indie Gantz.
This novel is written in such a unique way. You can kind of tell from the synopsis that there will be some time jumping. This is a difficult thing for an author to master as to not confuse their reader. I'm happy to say that Indie Gantz has done this masterfully.
One thing that you need to be aware of that is this is a Book 1, so there is a LOT to learn about the world Indie Gantz is taking us into and the characters. That is a huge part of this novel, backstory and getting the reader up to speed. I think that future novels will up the ante when it comes to action.
There is an immense level of detail the author puts into her setting and characters and I think that helps the reader imagine the characters and world vividly.
A great start to a new series and I look forward to seeing where Gantz takes it from here!
So this book remind me of how a new Marvel film series starts. The first movie is always the one with the back story and more boring than the movies to come. This book is the same way as it's the first book in the series it's really a backstory book which can get boring at times. You learn a lot about an alien race that came to earth after all the humans died. Though apparently there are still some humans on earth just not the normal kind. There are some interesting parts to this story but it can get really boring and tedious in other parts. I am hoping like the Marvel movies that the second book is better than the first.
*Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*
Dynamic characters, a beautiful, detailed fantasy world, and dual timelines lead to a fast pageturner!
The first book of the Akasha Series is a smart read. A robustly built science fiction/fantasy world, fast, witty dialogue, and dynamic characters make this novel a real page-turner while not skimping on the depth of the theory of the magic and social structure that make it realistic. Indie Gantz has captured relatable characters and engaging dual timelines to make me want to never put this book down. After I finished, I kept thinking, "Hmm, I wonder what Charlie and Tirigan are up to?" as though they were close friends- a sure sign of a great read! I can't wait to read more!
This book captured my attention at the start and kept me entertained to the last sentence. The concepts presented as the story developed are unique. I particularly liked the dystopian setting on a future Earth in which “normal” humans have become extinct.
I had a little difficulty with the time jumps and shifts in POV at first until I got used to the author’s storytelling style. Tirigan and Charlie are paternal twins but each has a distinct personality and individual quirks. Despite that, they share a strong bond. This is the first book in a planned series and I look forward to reading the next installment.
Passage: Book I of The Akasha Series by Indie Gantz is written very well. I couldn't put this book down. I was hooked from tbe beginning. I don't normally read science fiction, but decided to try this one and I'm glad I did.
It is set in a world where humans are extinct but the Annunaki that now inhabit earth take on many human customs and well known books and ideas such as Shakespeare and the concept of a "meme".
This is a story of a family of aliens that is ripped apart and is struggling to come back together. This is a book you will not be able to put down easily. I was up late reading it.
** I received a copy of this book for free through a Goodreads giveaway. **
I enjoyed this book very much (for the most part). I did have some difficulty with the time jumps at first but after the second (or maybe third) such jump, I realized how they fit into the story and how they enhanced it. The characters were very well developed and the idea of two competing alien races being all that was left on earth after some type of apocalypse was well done. The pace was constant and there was enough action and intense adventures to keep the reader's interest. I will definitely be continuing with this series.
I felt that the plot was a good one, but the flow of it seemed a bit rushed at times. I found myself trying to keep up. Luckily it wasn't too crazy and ultimately I understanding everything and actually ended up appreciating the pace.
These characters each have their own personalities and depth to them. None of them felt one-dimensional or forced, they all shined through as individuals.
Once I was in this novel I was immersed for sure. There is so much in it... Fantasy, Adventure, Action, Strong Female Lead, Lots of Backstory to the new World.
I loved how fast this novel was in its pacing, I thought that it kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I loved how much action there was throughout and how the author didn’t shy away from making sure everything was detailed. The time jumps and multiple perspectives were fun to read about. I didn’t find myself getting lost at all, Indie Gantz does a great job of clearly defining each moment. I liked the fact that we got backstory and plenty of descriptions of the world we were in, I could picture it in my head.
Passage is a very well-written, captivating book. I was hooked within the first chapter and am left wanting to read more about Charlie and Tirigan and where their struggles/adventures lead them. I felt that the set up and background material was interwoven well with the story. The mystery and action definitely kept me reading. I am looking forward to reading the next book!
This is a provocative tale that shows great sensitivity towards the Autism spectrum. Recognizing the strengths that are often considered weaknesses. I enjoyed it a great deal and look forward to reading more.
I kept trying to read this one, determined to get through it, but I found myself dragging. I couldn't pinpoint what it was, and I finally started writing out my thoughts on it. I think the pace was too constant, nothing to drive the story (or me) further. I gave it a good chance though! Maybe another day...
