Noah Barnett was born in Washington and grew up playing with firecrackers and GI Joes. His first taste of adolescent love struck over a broken pile of plastic corpses. Baroness stood atop the mound, and thus began his infatuation with bad girls.

He more or less taught himself to read while attending public school. Those good times soon came crashing down. By his early twenties, he was snorting coffee grounds daily and searching the mean streets of Arlington Heights for a new Java Bean dealer. In desperation, he turned to local expresso and mocha stands dotted around the North West. Thankfully by his thirties, he had settled down to a life of mediocre writing. Currently lives in Marysville, Washington and works from home. He says his addictions are a thing of the past, but the nervous caffeine induced twitches suggest otherwise.

Rating 3.0 stars

For most of the book I was thinking about rating this book 4 stars, but towards the end there were just too many useless plot lines that ended up going anywhere, and the ending negated most of what I liked about the story. First I will go over what the story is about before I get into the things that I liked, didn't like, and/or thought were pointless story plots.

The story follows Charlie, who is a car salesman. His roommate just move out and left his virtual reality equipment, so Charlie has decided to start playing and he decided to try Gun Meister Online. He gets loaded into the system and has to pick a weapon. In this world the guns are also NPCs and have two forms, one human and the other form that of a weapon. (Think Megatron from Transformers - he was a robot until he transformed into a gun to be used). So charlie is at the armory is he is surrounded by bikini wearing weapons/women. He picks a big breasted blond bombshell and names her Elva who turns out to be a .45 caliber handgun. In order to contract with the handgun they have to have sex. ( As a car salesman, he knows that sex and violence sells, so it is very understandable why the game makers have developed the world this way). Charlie's goal in the game is to get better and level up. At each different level he is able to pick a different weapon, so by the time he gets to the Gold or platinum levels he will have a pretty impressive Harem. All the weapons are NPCs and have a different personality. Those personalities change somewhat after being contracted with a person for a while.

The good things about this story is that it is different than most virtual reality online stories. In most, players are able to do things like swing a sword or fire a gun with barely any training. The knowledge of how to do those things are baked into the game. In this book though, it is all about training. When Charlie first starts to fire his gun, he sucks. He need continued practice. There is no computer assist for his targeting skills. Gun safety and responsibility is also drilled into Charlie in this story. He is told to also assume a gun is loaded, never point a gun at someone who he does not intend to kill, keep finger off trigger until ready to fire. There is no such thing as friendly fire in the game, and if he kills a teammate or random person, there will be penalties. Cleaning and caring for his weapons is also prioritized in the story. Despite it being a game, after all the combat fun, the player needs to stay online and clean and care for his weapon. (this is made easier by the fact that cleaning his weapon is somewhat of a sexual experience for the weapons who pretty much sound like they are having multiple orgasms while they are being cleaned, which usually leads to sexual fun for Charlie when they turn back into human form. I guess what they say is true - if you take care of your weapon, it will take care of you). He also has to make sure his body is in a safe place when he logs off, since the NPCs and the rest of the world continue on when the player is logged off. His character does not disappear when he logs off.

The bad parts of the story: This world was virtual reality but there wasn't any mention of how the player could have such mind blowing sex in the game and really feel it. All Charles did was put a helmet on and he could feel everything in the game. During the first part of the book (maybe the first 1/3-1/2) there were many story points that didn't go anywhere. The author made a lot of weird choices in this story.

Lastly I need to talk about Remy, who at the same time was the funniest/ most awesome character in the story and made me feel the most uncomfortable. Based on that ending, I don't think I would read the next book if there was one.

This book was AWESOME! I loved the MC and most of all, I loved REMY. She needs her own damn book. I can say that this isn't a general type of book that I read, I usually like something that's more RPG ish. This has upgrades and the such, and it's online, but it's not like a D&D RPG or FF RPG. Anyway, yes this is a TON of sex in this book, but it's not what the books about. There is character development and it goes back and forth between the real world and the virtual world, but the longer the book goes, the less the real world is brought up. Anyway, the plot development is obvious, and the character development is also obvious. You know what's going to happen, but the book is still rather enjoyable due to the witty banter between all of the players in the game. I'm looking forward to whatever else happens in this series.

There’s long been a fascination with the idea that we could experience our role playing games in 3D environments. I wrote a story like that myself when I was in college. Larry Niven and Steven Barnes set the bar in the subgenre with their 1981 novel Dream Park (not to mention movies like Mazes and Monsters, and West World, and I guess the new one, Ready Player One) and there have probably been hundreds of similar novels since. So Gunmeister Online is in a noble tradition, but falls a little short of the mark.

First the positives: Barnett writes some good action scenes and his video game is credible. After spending about half the book introducing you to the system at both the single and squad levels, he does a good job of creating three “events” which require all of the players to join forces to defeat a “global” threat. The first two of these events were very well done, although the third felt rushed to me, and thus a bit disappointing. In addition, Barnett created a couple of very interesting supporting characters, which naturally enhanced my enjoyment of the novel.

Now the negatives: There are two subplots that get dropped and it significantly hurts the storyline. I find this ironic because I was annoyed when each subplot began, but quickly came to realize that they were integral to the story as they were the best place to measure the hero, Charlie’s, development as a human being.

The first subplot focuses on Charlie’s financial problems. The world is in a recession and he is a used car salesman who needs a job but isn’t a very good salesman. In the early chapters of the novel, Charlie begins using his experience in analyzing problems in the game to help him figure out how to sell more cars. It seemed strange when Barnett first introduced the concept, but it worked well and it gave the overall novel much more meaning. As Charlie gains confidence in the game, he starts to bring some of that confidence back into the real world with him.

The second subplot revolves around his interest in Jennifer, a colleague at the car dealership. This subplot actually split into two as Jennifer convinces him to try her vampire online game with her and he quickly gets involved in a mess that involves her boyfriend and a power struggle within the game. There’s an interesting dynamic established here, but while we occasionally learn of future events in the vampire game, Charlie never returns to deal with them. He also never seriously pursues Jennifer even though she comes to play more and more in the Gunmeister Online game with him.

What these dropped subplots tell me is that Barnett was more interested in the fictitious game within the novel than he was in his protagonist. He shows us Charlie’s evolution as a player when what I wanted to see was his evolution as a man. I wish he would have cut out a lot of the sex with the holograms and dedicated those pages to some genuine character development. I think Barnett has the chops to have pulled that off, he just didn’t appear interested.

Its a great book with a surprisingly unique idea on how guns(tools) can more than just non-animated objects. I really like the general idea and how it was being written and expressed to the reader. However, I had HUGE problems with how the Guns learned and adapted. It felt as though the author himself forgot how he described the learning process for guns, which is that guns learn from their owners, adapt and evolve to better themselves to obtain a personality that fits the owner. Yet, Fara(one of the guns) despite being around him for 2 months barely changed. Her attitude changed, thats normal. What is not normal is that her personality stayed the same. According the code she should be changing into gun that better fits the owner's personality yet she stays as the same sadistic teenager he picked her up as. I don't see a purpose for her existence in the plot other than to be a machine-gun which is hardly a purpose when you realize that she can be changed. Her only role was to be a the sadistic girl of the harem, nothing else. The story relied too much on the workings of the lore and the game which made the reader forget the fact that some of the characters were 2 dimensional. Great idea, somewhat well executed. All it needs is some work.

Ok I won't lie to you. The "Adult and Uncensored" was just that efficient of a bait. So I bit.
And, to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised at how long the book kept me listening, even though there isn't really a story to follow.

What can one say about a book that purposefully sets out to fully embrace some of the most successful Anime tropes of the last few years? Well... it was fun.

The gun fights were rather well described, with a good use, rather unobtrusive use of the game mechanics (no constant stats fillers), which was a refreshing change.

The gun-hunting was... spicy, to say the least. But it got repetitive very quickly.
To be honest, I got to about 80% but didn't finish the book, because there was no real incentive to.

But, it was fun while it lasted :-p

This book is quite poorly written. I really wanted to like it, but the characters are uninteresting and the pacing is pretty slow.

Wow! What an interesting take on an mmorpg! If you love games and you like a little (or a lot) of spice, I highly recommend this story. I listened to the audio version and the two narrators did an amazing job of bringing the characters and story to life.

This is not your average shooter mmorpg. It’s racy and a bit raunchy in places. The interaction between characters is funny and sometimes intense. The battles are entertaining and well written. Go for an exciting adventure in Gun Meister Online!

Wow... Just WOW! Absolutely loved this book! The writing flowed so nicely and the story was original. I've become a huge fan of LitRPG/GameLit/EroticGameLitRPG and this book has it all. I don't want to give anything away but I will say the idea of the guns being NPCs was really cool and made for a super fun read. This has quickly jumped to one of my favorites and I can't wait until the next one comes out!

2.5 stars for me. Okay so this one is a hard one to rate. I can see how some people would hate this book and how others would love it. I am more in the middle on this one. Sometimes different or unique is good and sometimes different is just strange. I think this ones leans a little on the strange side. Yes it is unique and has some good points but all in all for me it is just a little strange. As I live in a country that does not have a strong gun culture this books does not do much for me. I may look for other books by this author as this is just my first book by him and he is very close to the kinds of books that I like.

Good Read.

A LitRPG harem story. A decent story with guns and girls. It starts with training and the plot of the game/story is revealed/developed about midway through. * Note: There are adult situations in the book. *

This is for the audioversion of the book

I have to admit to have been waiting to listen to this book since it first came out. I'd heard a ton of positive things about it, and the premise seemed pretty cool. I was doubly excited that we got the Adult and Uncensored version as well. I don't see a need to tone things down, and in the day and age when Harem lit is popular and even MSE goes graphic I think it is fine to go grown up. After all, this is a book about people playing a game in which headshots are a common thing. I still would have liked to have heard the mature cut! I can't imagine what we are missing!!

My first comment regards the cover. Covers are meant to grab your attention, and make you want to read the blurb. If it can draw you in that far then it has done its job. Without a doubt this is one of the best covers I have seen. It is wall worthy, meaning I would absolutely hang that on my wall. I appreciate art that isn't cartoony or doesn't tell you anything about the book itself. If you read this book you will know exactly who that is, and the cover does tell you a lot about what goes on inside. The light coming through the shades is atmospheric and seductive. Again, this is a great piece of artwork.

Next, how can I not comment on the narration? Barnett was a wise man, and went through Soundbooth Theater, and in this case got not one, but three narrators! Annie Ellicott, Justin Thomas James, and the ever amazing Jeff Hays all work their butts off, and bring you some of the best vocal readings I have ever heard! This book is like a reverse image of their usual work, as Hays generally reads the bulk of the story and Ellicott backs him up with the female voices. Here, however, Annie gets her gun, and takes the lead. Jeff does most of the male voices, and James locks and loads in as backup on one other voice. This is the triple threat of narration right here. Jeff is far and away my favorite narrator. I never fail to mention that, and Annie is coming up on my list as well. James does a great job, I just haven't heard enough of him to really dole out the praise he assuredly deserves. Hopefuly he'll solo a book and I can tell you just how incredible I know him to be. As it stands, the work he does is awesome. Anyhow, this combination is like alternating mortar shells and napalm on your ears. They won't know what hit them. Annie really pushes the story forward, and Jeff makes you believe he is the Meister we all want to be. I love hearing this talanted troupe working together, it really brings more to the table than your standard fare.

Have I even mentioned Barnett's writing yet? Nope? Well, I should have. As a fledgling author this cat has really got it together. He knows how to pace a plot, and build tension. He adds humor in where it is needed ("I surrender"), and he doesn't hold back on the big story. There is a lot more going on here than a guy rotating in and out of death duel gun matches. He is also pretty creative with his gaming system. The players don't build up, but their weapons do. Their weapons are sentient, and require some love to keep them happy and tied to their owners. This is a creative world, and a unique game. He really has the ammo necessary to write a Gunventure like this. I like that it takes time for the protagonist to go from being a doofus to being a leader of men. The ragtag group that he ends up with are all interesting characters, and I found it humorous that out of all the people in the game there is at least one powder loading dude keeping things real with the old timey gun. I could totally see my father carrying a flintlock into the game, and using the tag of Hawkeye. The action scenes are not Michael Bay stupid, but more of the Die Hard first and second movie type. The big fights are brutal and fun, all three of them, and I must say that I was glad to have so much content. Anything over 7 or 8 hours of run time is a blessing.

You want to know the best way I can tell you to get this book and read it? The simple fact that I really want a sequel ASAP. This book blows you off of your arse, and makes you peek around corners as you listen. You will feel the bullets zip by, and feel the shrapnel of ricochet's spatter your face. You will fall in love with Elva (sorry, audio book so not sure about the spelling), and wish you could just "holster" her one time. This is a frantic and frenetic story that locks and loads you in and never lets you up. You will be pinned down by cover fire, and have no chance of backup coming to save you. Only thing is, you won't want rescued. You will want to join in the fun, and deal out your own grevious headwounds. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

If this review helped, please press the YES below. Thank you immensely!!!

Gun Meister Online: Adult and Uncensored by Noah Barnett Review:

Gun Meister Online: Adult and Uncensored by Noah Barnett offers readers an unapologetically adult take on the litRPG genre, blending elements of gaming, action, and explicit content. While the premise may appeal to a specific audience, the execution falls short, resulting in a story that feels gratuitous and lacking in substance.

Barnett's writing style is straightforward, with descriptive prose and fast-paced action that keeps the story moving at a brisk pace.

In this novel, readers are introduced to the virtual world of Gun Meister Online, where players engage in virtual combat and exploration. However, the inclusion of explicit content feels forced and detracts from the overall enjoyment of the story, overshadowing any potential for meaningful character development or plot progression.

The world-building in this installment is minimal, with little attention paid to the underlying mechanics of the game world or the larger setting in which the story takes place.

Compared to its contemporaries in the litRPG genre, such as Ready Player One by Ernest Cline or Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara, Gun Meister Online: Adult and Uncensored falls short in terms of depth and originality. While these works offer immersive worlds and compelling characters, Barnett's novel feels shallow and derivative, relying too heavily on shock value rather than meaningful storytelling.

Rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5)

Gun Meister Online: Adult and Uncensored falls short in delivering a compelling and cohesive narrative, ultimately relying too heavily on explicit content to sustain reader interest. While it may provide some entertainment for a specific audience, it lacks the depth and substance to stand out in a crowded genre.

Like it and I'm it's own right it was the best I ever read.

Okay.. I can see when people say it's missed so many opportunities to be more especially in how the description of the book made it seem. Though I'm it's own right it's a amazing standalone. It's mainly focus on character building and setting us up for the "misfits". I loved the characters even remy. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if someone steals his ideal and actually make the game. Not the sex just personality weapons. I do have one gripe and it forgets the outside world. They had this political tone in the beginning about dive junkies he doesn't really explore and only seems to use the outside life to just fill in the backstroke of two of the character choices later on. Won't say which but it involves ghosting for one and switching games for another. He doesn't really go into ghosting well either and I hope he goes into detail later about it. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the end game for charlie.

Online game that specializes in gun fights. Reads like a hentai movie as the guns are hot sex loving woman when not used in a fight.
Didn't expect to read the whole book but was more fun as i expected and not only read it till the end - I even enjoyed it. :)
The MC starts to gather a group of players around him and the game itself even initiates a real story for the gun fights. The group dynamic is nice and the interaction between the MC and his "guns" is also nice. lot of happy banter there.
As expected from a harem book - lots of sex scenes - so maybe not for everyone.
So - not the super great book but nice entertainment.

Fun and annoying

I read this after Nigmus online.
I'm not a fan of harem style books, and less super sexy book. Mostly because they are senseless. No woman or man wants to be other than the only love.

That said I only deducted 1 star as otherwise it is an interesting story. It's full dive vr, and an interesting concept.

There are some serious misses. The main character has a job that is initially important, but suddenly disappears. Ranking in the game is important than also suddenly isn't.

Gun Bunnies Fantasy!

What a blast this book turned out to be. Truly deserved the title Adult and Uncensored! Very violent but funny at the same time.
The characters are enjoyable and Remy just made me laugh out loud! Every gaming group has some sort of perverse character!
The author has done a great job of bringing a shooter style game to the written page.
Hoping for a follow up soon!

Great book with a nice spin

This was well written. I really enjoyed the different spin the author Putin the whole vrmmo litrpg. The idea was so well thought out I want to play the game in real life. It's not just a half thought up idea. There was time and energy invested. I also enjoyed the fact that the sexual scenes varied. Some were detailed and others were glossed over. This made it flow well and not get repetitive. Very well done. Looking forward to the next expansion.

Very good

I'm not usually a fan of the whole harem set up in books, but this book was a lot better than the norm and had a great set up and plot. The characters were actually interesting and made the whole book a better read. Over all it was a fun story and I look forward to the next installment

Not my typical genre as I tend to stick more in the Fantasy genre but I figured I'd give it a go. Sex is abundant, the author seems to know quite a bit about weaponry which is a key component of the book. Overall I enjoyed this more than I thought I would and I'm looking forward to book two if and when it happens.

You mixed flintlock with caplock at random and Thompson Center makes pistols and carbines, Thompson made submachine guns. But despite that the characters were fun and the story line unique.

Don’t get your hopes up

It really is as awful as it sounds. Guns which turn into busty, submissive women that you have to ‘claim’, then they turn back so you can go and shoot people for no reason. A gun nut’s weird fantasy.

I laughed through most of the book. These characters really love their guns. Though I’m sure video games will one day end up just like this.
